Review:argetlam shadeslayer says:
Wow, what a beautiful start to a story! I especially love your artistic descriptions when Florence zones out during lunch (I was excited as well that I understood the chapter title - finally, diction class has paid off, though don't ask me how lunch ever came up), dreaming up the charcoal shading and spiraling lines of her mother's profile. In this odd way, I feel like this first chapter gave me a glimpse of Florence similarly to the way an abstract or maybe Impressionist painting might offer a subject, with the details slightly obscured, but somehow (some of them) being eventually thrown into sharper relief as the story progresses. Ugh, I feel as though I'm reading too much into this, but everything in this chapter came across as so beautifully profound and simple, and I really can't wait to read more. (Which is such a silly thing to say, because as soon as I submit this, I will read more. But there you are.)

Anyway, to end this horrendously long-winded review, excellent chapter! (And you had me at "A haircut, a holiday and a harpsichord may be all she needs." Gosh, such a good line.)

Author's Response: Wow, that is SUCH a nice review! I worked really hard on this story because I wanted to do something a little different, and it's amazing to know that you picked up on everything. I've done a hell of a lot of research on Florence for a school paper recently, which is one of the reasons I started writing this, and I am trying to make as many links to it as possible.

Thanks SO MUCH for taking the time to write such a lovely review.
