I tear up as I type this. This has so many parallels to today's world events, I hardly have the words to describe it. I found out earlier this week that a man I knew at college was killed in Iraq. I attended a small midwestern college and the summer after my freshmen year, I went on this sociology trip with about 6 other people, a 4 week camping trip, and this guy was part of that group. After that trip and in the following years, I didn't really see much of him; we didn't travel in the same circles. But re-reading your story just now makes me think of all those people affected by war, all those young lives cut short, and about those left behind. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I understand exactly what you're talking about. All of us are often blinded by the more trivial pursuits in our lives and forget about all the fighting and starvation and persecution going on out there. Just this week, the Lidle crash in New York raised security issues and the death of Steve Irwin a month or two earlier brought remorse. But the fact of the issue is that we often only see the larger-than-life figures in the world and miss out on the many dying in Iraq and some African countries where persecution and genocide is a daily issue. It's words like yours that bring life to the stories that authors tell. Thank you for the wonderful review and insight. I truly appreciate your review.
