Chapter 1: Going Home
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Hermione Granger woke up to the thumping that she was sure was coming from the living room. She groaned and got out of bed, slowly making her way to the living room. And that is where she indeed, found the source of noise. She watched as the little girl jumped up and down while she watched one of her favorite television shows.
“Alexz, what are you doing?” She asked the little girl. She turned to around and Hermione smiled at her. She had dirty blonde hair, slightly wavy; aquamarine eyes, heart shaped face, and a to die for smile.
“I’m dancing Mommy.” Alexz responded. Hermione laughed as she turned back to the tv, and danced more. Hermione shook her head and headed to her room. She got out some clothes for the day and changed. She then went to the kitchen to make some breakfast. “Can I have pancakes?” Alexz asked coming into the room. Hermione looked down and smiled.
“Sure sweetie. Go got some clothes on okay, we have a big day today.” Hermione said and Alexz giggled excitedly as she ran to her room. Today, Hermione and her daughter were moving back to London, after living in New York since Hermione graduated from Hogwarts about four and a half years ago. She moved to New York for a job, and eight months later, had Alexz. Hermione did well for herself. She had a nice apartment in a nice place in the city, she worked as a well paid secretary, and she subbed for teaching young kids. They were moving today because she got offered a job in London to teach pre Hogwarts students. She was going to get kids from ages four to seven. Alexz was four, and enrolled. Hermione finished breakfast just as Alexz came down the hall, dressed in a pair of blue jean shorts and an emerald tee shirt, just like her Mommy, except Hermione’s shirt was dark blue.
“Smells yummy.” Alexz said and Hermione smiled at her while setting the plates down.
“Thank you Alexz.” She said and they sat down and ate breakfast. Hermione was able to eat two bites, and her phone rang.
“Hello Harry.” Hermione said, and Alexz perked up.
“Is that Uncle Harry?” She asked and Hermione nodded. “Hi Uncle Harry.” Alexz called out loud. Hermione moved the phone from her ear and Harry said ‘Hello Aly’ loudly back.
“What’s up Harry?” Hermione asked.
“I was just wondering if you needed any help packing and such. I mean, I know that you are more than capable, but I just thought you could use help.” He said and she smiled.
“That would be great. Can you be here in thirty minutes?” Hermione asked and Harry agreed. They said their goodbyes and Hermione finished her breakfast.
“Will I like London?” Alexz asked and Hermione smiled at her.
“Yes you will. I miss it there so much.” She said and Alexz smiled at her.
“Does my daddy live in London?” She asked and Hermione looked at her.
“I don’t know sweetie.” She answered honestly.
“Oh, okay.” Alexz said, seemingly happy with the thought that her father could be there. Hermione sighed, and finished her breakfast. She sent Aly to her room to pack her little tote bag with a few pieces of clothes and a few of her favorite toys. Hermione went to the living room and with her wand, shrunk everything and put them in boxes. She then moved on to the kitchen, then her room, and then Aly’s room. Just when she finished, there was a knock on her door. “I’ll get it.” Aly called out. She opened the door, and squealed at seeing Harry.
“Wow, Aly, you have gotten big.” He said as she jumped into his arms for a hug.
“I missed you Uncle Harry. Where’s Aunt Ginny?” She asked when he set her down.
“At home with Teddy and Lily. Where’s your mommy?”
“Walking around the house with a box, packing.” She said and Harry shut the door, and searched for Hermione. He found her in the bathroom packing small things.
“Hey Mione. You are a sight for sore eyes.” Harry said and she smiled, before setting down the box to hug him. Harry hadn’t changed much since school. He was taller, but was exactly the same. His body was built from Quidditch, hair was messy as always.
“Harry, you haven’t changed at all.” She said and he laughed. Hermione on the other hand, had. Her body was filled out nice for a mom. Her hair was now tamed and straight, and was getting a little long for her liking.
“You look good Mione. New York has treated you well.”
“Well enough.” She said and went back to shrinking things and packing them away.
“So, what do you want me to do?” He asked and she smiled.
“Just wait. I am almost done and then we can get everything ready. Well, you could shrink the boxes that are in the living room while you wait.” She said and he nodded. Alexz followed him so she could see him do magic. Harry shrank the boxes, and then put them on the mantle above the fire place. A moment later Hermione walked in with the last box and put it on the floor. Harry shrunk it, and placed it with the others.
“I think so.”
“Do a quick sweep, make sure. You don’t want to forget anything.” Harry said, and she did that. A moment later she came back with a smile.
“Ok, Aly, do you have everything in your bag?” Aly nodded. “You’re positive that you have Pooh Bear?” Hermione asked and Aly pulled her favorite Winnie the Pooh stuffed bear out of her bag. “Okay. Harry, can you pocket the boxes, and I will take Aly.” She said and Harry put the boxes in his pockets.
“Where are we going?” Harry asked and Hermione sighed.
“Well we will be living in the magic world. The address is 1501 Garden Village.” She said and he looked at her.
“That’s a nice place. Okay, are we ready?” Harry asked and the two girls nodded. Hermione told Alexz to hold on tight, which she did. Hermione and Alexz apparated first, and Harry followed. Hermione and Alexz got there safely, and a moment later, Harry was there. “Do you have to go get the tenant?” Harry asked and Hermione nodded. “Go ahead, I got Aly.” He said and Hermione walked to the main office. All around her were apartments. They were basically all the same; two bedrooms, a nice kitchen, a nice living room, two bathrooms; perfect for her and Alexz. She knocked on the door when she got the main office.
“Come in.” She heard a woman say. Hermione opened the door and walked in to see a woman in her mid forty’s. She reminded Hermione a lot of Mrs. Weasley.
“Hello, I’m Hermione Granger. I called you a week ago.” She said and the woman perked up.
“Oh, Hello Miss Granger. You are right on time, I am Mrs. Brown.” Hermione greeted her with a ‘hello’. “You will be in apartment five, which is the one all the way in the back.” She said getting the key out of her desk. She got up out of her chair, and walked to Hermione. “If you have any problems, please come and let me know and I will try to get it fixed as soon as possible.” She said while leading the way back to Hermione’s apartment. “It’s quiet, so you don’t have to worry about anything waking your child up at night. To your right is apartment one, and across to the left is two.” She said and they walked a little further up. “Three is on the right, and four is on the left.” She said, and then straight ahead was five, Hermione’s new home. “Hello there.” Mrs. Brown said to Harry and Alexz.
“Hello.” Harry returned, along with Alexz. The woman walked to the door and unlocked it, then handed Hermione the key.
“Like I said, let me know if you need anything.” She said before walking back to the main office.
“Thank you.” Hermione said, and then the three entered the new apartment. The first room they walk into was the living room; it had some furniture in it, but not too much. Then they saw the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom that was Alexz, and she was happy because it was a little bigger than the one she had in New York. Then they went to Hermione’s soon to be bedroom, and connected to it was the master bathroom. “I get my own bathroom.” Hermione said and Harry laughed.
“Ginny loves our master bathroom too.” She smiled at him.
“Mommy, I want to decorate my room.” Alexz said and Hermione smiled at her.
“I know sweetie, but we have to go the store fist. Harry, you can unload your pockets and put them on the kitchen counter. I think I will switch Potter’s, maybe Ginny would like to go to the grocery store with me and Aly.” Hermione said and Harry smiled.
"Maybe, no offense, but I don’t.” He said and put the boxes one the counter. “Is there anything else I can do for you?” He asked and Hermione thought for a moment.
“Nope. Now, let’s go to your house.” She said as she picked up Aly, then walked to Harry and took his hand. “Hold on tight Aly.” Hermione said, and Aly wrapped her arms around her mother’s neck, holding on as tight as she could. Hermione held onto Harry’s hand as he apparated them to his and Ginny’s home. Hermione looked at the house that Harry bought Ginny the day before they got married, and smiled. It was just as quaint as she remembered it. It was a sweet two story house, which was large enough for a nice sized family. They walked in and before Hermione could look around, she heard Ginny squealing at their arrival.
“Hermione!” She said and pulled her best friend into a hug. “I am so glad you are home. How have you been? I haven’t seen you since Christmas.” Ginny said and Hermione laughed at her. Before Hermione was able to answer her question, Ginny had seen Alexz. “Oh, don’t you look just like your mommy. Give me a hug Alexz.” Ginny said and Alexz ran to her open arms.
“I missed you Aunt Ginny.” Alexz said a Ginny laughed.
“I missed you too. So have Teddy and Lily.” Ginny said and stood up straight, and looked at Hermione.
“Hello Gin, we have been fine. And I see that you lost all the baby fat that you gained. Even if it was only five extra pounds.” Hermione said with a laugh. Altogether Ginny had gained thirty-seven pounds while she was pregnant. After Lily was born, Ginny had lost thirty-two pounds. All she had was water weight, and Lily weight. Ginny was lucky.
“Thank you. You look amazing Mione.” Ginny said and Hermione smiled at her friend. Ginny had a sexy mother figure, her long fire red hair, and pretty blue eyes.
“Ginny, we were wondering if you would like to go get groceries with us.” Hermione asked and Ginny nodded.
“Yeah, I’ll be right back.” Ginny walked away, and a moment came back in jeans, a black tee shirt, and flip flops. “Harry, you got the kids?” Ginny asked and Harry nodded.
“Yeah, you girls have fun.” He said and the three girls walked out of the house and apparating to the grocery store.
Chapter 2: Catching Up
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
They arrived at the grocery store, Hermione put Alexz in a shopping trolley, and they started shopping.
“I can’t believe that you are finally back. It hasn’t been the same without you Mione. So, where are you working?” Ginny asked while Hermione shopped.
“The new school, Magical Beginnings. Alexz is enlisted. I will get students ages four to seven. And I also do secretary work. So if the teaching doesn’t work out, I can get a secretarial job. I get paid high dollar because I am very good. In fact, the school told me that I should just sub, but that is after I find a secretarial job. But for now, I will be teaching.” She said and Ginny nodded.
“That sounds great. Harry does all the work, and wants me home. Which, I don’t mind. I very much love being a house wife, plus I get to do as I please.” Ginny said and Hermione laughed. That sort of life style is not what Hermione wanted. She wanted to work; it gave her a sense of accomplishment getting paid for working.
“That’s good for you Ginny, but I am not that kind of woman.”
“I know, you are Hermione, earns what she wants.”
“Mommy, can I have those?” Alexz asked, pointing to some juice boxes. “They are my favorite.” She said and Hermione laughed, and got her a few packs. “What’s for dinner tonight mommy?”
“I was thinking - -“ Hermione began but Ginny cut her off.
“That you two should come to my house for dinner. Harry is using a grill to make some food. We can have a little cook out thing, and the kids can play, and we can chat.” Ginny said and Alexz smiled, nodding hard, showing Hermione that she really wanted to go.
“Well… I suppose we can go.” Hermione said, and Alexz cheered. Hermione picked up a few things before moving on to get her other groceries. “So how is Ron?” Hermione asked and Ginny smiled.
“He is good. He is away right now for a few games, but he should be back in about two weeks.” Ginny said and Hermione nodded. Ron had graduated Hogwarts with Hermione and Harry, and a year later was drafted into the Chudley Cannons Quidditch Team. He has been the best keeper the team has ever had. “He is dating a girl called Mila Embrose. She is really pretty.” Ginny said and Hermione nodded.
“That’s good for him.”
“What about you, Mione? Any lucky guy upset about you leaving in New York?” Ginny asked and Hermione laughed.
“Mommy hasn’t dated because she hasn’t had the chance. She says that Mr. Right hasn’t come along.” Alexz said and Ginny giggled at her.
“You are very right Aly. That sounds very much like your mommy.” Ginny said and Hermione laughed. “Then again, maybe Mr. Right did come around?” Ginny asked, mostly to Hermione, and Hermione gave her a small glare.
“Hermione, come on, you know something is going to happen now that you are back here.”
“Is he?” Hermione asked quietly. She looked over at Alexz, but Alexz was too busy looking around at everything. “Still here I mean?”
“Yes. He inherited the business when his father passed away. They have their hand in everything in that corporation. Harry has been helping with some paper work.” Ginny stated.
“But, Harry is an Auror.” Hermione said.
“Yes, the best one that’s been seen, ever. He was helping with safe keeping things. Alarms, security… stuff like that. Harry said that he was very pleasant to be around.” Ginny said and Hermione nodded.
“Mommy, are you alright?” Alexz asked Hermione, who had a distant look in her eyes, as she thought about the past.
“Mommy is fine Aly; she just has something on her mind.” Ginny said and Hermione was glad that Ginny was there. Hermione shook the past out of her head, and they continued on with their shopping. Aly picked out a few more things that she wanted, and Hermione obliged because Aly was a smart shopper for a four year old. She only picked out one sweet thing, cookies. They checked out and then took everything to Hermione and Aly’s new home. Ginny helped her put the food away in different places while Aly waited.
“Mommy, I’m hungry.” She said. Hermione got her a juice box, a cup of yogurt, and a banana to snack on while she and Ginny finished putting the food away.
“You know, I heard that his company is looking for a few people, including secretaries. Maybe you should go and apply. I mean, you said so yourself, you’d get more money, and you could still work at the school.” She said and Hermione wanted to refuse, but she needed the money. What were the chances of her becoming his secretary anyways?
“Maybe, I mean, I could always use the money. And it’s not like I will be his secretary.” She said, sharing her thoughts.
“It would be so weird if you were. Have you talked to him? At all?” Ginny asked as they finished with the groceries.
“No, I haven’t. But, I don’t think that he cares, because he never tried writing me either.”
“I’m sure he would, considering the circumstances.” Ginny said and Hermione groaned as she walked to the counter and got the box for her room.
“Gin, I haven’t even been here for 12 hours, hell, I haven’t even been here for five, can we save this until tomorrow?” Hermione asked while taking the small box to her room, Ginny following her.
“I’m sorry, I just think that it’s sad is all.” Ginny said quietly and watched as Hermione enlarged the box, and open it on the floor.
“So do I. I don’t know why it never came out, it just didn’t.” She said and set all her things around her room the way she wanted, before enlarging it all, filling her room. She then put all her clothes on hooks, into the closet, and folded other into her dresser. She placed her pictures and things around her room, making it comfortable. She then pointed her wand to the wall, said a spell, and her walls went from white, to a light blue, which matched her light blue and brown comforter set, and matching curtains.
“Very nice.” Ginny said and Hermione thanked her, before getting Aly’s box, doing Aly’s room.
“Alexz, come here please.” Hermione called, and they instantly heard running feet coming to them.
“What color do you want your room?” Hermione asked and Alexz looked at her room. She had lavender and light pink comforter set, and light pink curtains. She looked at her mother and smiled.
“I want light purple.” She said, and Hermione did the spell and a moment later, Aly’s room was light purple. Hermione then used magic to put up the pictures that Aly loved, including a cut out of her nursery wall paper, which was a picture of Winnie the Pooh, and his friends. After she was done, she picked out a tunic for Aly to wear with her jean shorts. Hermione then went to her room, and put on a jean skirt and a tunic as well. She pulled on some flip flops and walked to Aly’s room to see Ginny guide her while Aly tried tying her shoes. Aly’s dirty blonde hair seemed to glow when she wore light blue shirts. Hermione smiled at her beautiful daughter, and then made her presence known.
“Are we ready to go to Aunt Ginny’s now?” She asked and Aly perked up.
“Yes. How do I look mommy?” Aly asked while turning around in a circle.
“You look very beautiful.” Hermione said as she walked to her daughter, grabbing her hand.
“You have a shirt like me.” Aly said and Hermione laughed. Hermione was wearing an adult sized tunic, in black, while Aly’s was light blue. They all apparated to Harry and Ginny’s house, and Aly ran in, ready to go and play. Hermione sat in the living room, already exhausted, and it was only going on five pm, London time. Hermione’s internal clock was off, since she was used to New York time. Ginny handed her a glass containing a hot pink drink.
“It’s a Cosmo. Don’t worry I went easy on the alcohol, but you need at least one drink.” She said and Hermione sipped it, and it was perfect. She couldn’t even taste the liquor.
“Thanks Ginny, it’s really good.” She said and Ginny laughed. Just then, an owl came in and landed by Ginny. She took the letter and saw that the owl didn’t fly away, since it was instructed to wait for a response.
“Harry!” Ginny called, and a moment later Harry appeared. “A letter just came for you.” She said and handed it to him. He opened the thick envelope, read a small note, and handed Hermione a folded up paper.
“What’s this?” She asked and he shrugged.
“I knew that you needed a job other than the school, so I got you a paper to fill out so that you can get an appointment set for a great secretary job. They pay really well there.” He said and she opened the letter to see the letter head. She looked up at her friends, both of them giving her a look of encouragement. She groaned and held out her hand.
“Give me a pen.” She said, and Harry gave her one, and she filled out the form; which asked information such as her name, age, marital status, where she last worked, and a number to call her old boss. A few minutes later she was done and gave the paper back to Harry, who sealed it and gave it to the owl, and it flew away, already knowing where it had to go.
“This is a good thing Hermione.” Ginny said.
“Right.” Hermione said and smiled. She did need the money, and hey, it was a good job. Harry hugged her, and then went back outside to set up his grill. He pulled out the note, and could see the desperation in his friends writing, how bad he needed a great secretary. ‘Best of the best’ it had said, causing Harry to chuckle. ‘Well, this is going to be entertaining.’ Harry thought before setting to work.
“Ginny, what if I get assigned to him?” Hermione asked and Ginny shrugged.
“You are a grown woman Hermione, you will handle it well. Besides, it is highly unlikely. And, maybe it would be good for you, and not just for the money.” Ginny said and Hermione groaned.
“This isn’t how it was suppose to go, you know.” Hermione said and drained her drink.
“Mione, things don’t always go the way we plan, but hey, sometimes things work out in the end.” She said, just as another owl came in with a letter. Again, with Harry’s name. “Harry!” Ginny called, this time going to him, meeting him halfway. He opened the letter to see feminine handwriting saying that Hermione had an appointment tomorrow morning at nine a.m. for a secretarial job.
“Mione, you have an appointment tomorrow at nine a.m., I’ll get you the address so that you know where to go.” Harry said before walking away.
“And I will watch Aly for you too, so that you don’t have to worry about it.” Ginny said, just as Aly came running in.
“Mommy is it okay with you and Aunt Ginny if I stayed here, tonight, with Lily.” Aly asked, just as Lily came running after her. Aly was just about five months older than Lily. Lily looked just like Ginny, except she had Harry’s eyes.
“If it’s okay with Aunt Ginny, then it is fine with me.” Hermione said and Ginny smiled.
“It’s fine with me honey.” She said and Hermione popped to her place to get Aly some things for the night, then went back for dinner with her friends. Hermione didn’t realize just how much she had missed it here, with her friends. She smiled as she watched the children play, and Harry and Ginny kissing. All in all, she knew she had made the right choice in coming back home.
Chapter 3: The Appointment
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Hermione didn’t get to sleep until late. She had come home, and unpacked everything, and fixed everything how she wanted. She really did enjoy doing things the muggle way, but when it came to things like packing and arranging, magic was the best way to go. She had set everything up, and made the kitchen a creamy yellow color, the living room was a cream color, and the bathroom that was Aly’s was light pink and white, and hers was white and black. Hermione finally collapsed on her bed, after she did some small pampering. Just then, her alarm went off, and her eyes shot open. She sat up, and remembered that she had to move fast to make it to the appointment on time. She got up, and took a nice hot shower. When she was done, she magically dried her hair, which she cut last night, thanks to a book that Ginny had given her on hair and makeup. Within five minutes, and with a few spells, her hair was touching her shoulders, layered all over, with honey highlights, and swoop bangs. After her hair was done and she brushed her teeth, she put on very little makeup, and then went to find an outfit. As she was looking through her closet, her cell phone rang.
“Good Morning Mommy.” Aly said.
“Hello sweetie, did you sleep well?” She asked and Aly yawned.
“Yes, did you?”
“I did, and I got the house all fixed up for you. You are going to love it, just you wait. After I get done with my meeting, I have to make a stop, and then I will be there to come and get you so that you can go and meet some of the teachers at the school.” Hermione said and Aly squealed with excitement.
“Goody. I am very excited. Oh, I have to go; Aunt Ginny wants to talk to you.”
“Okay sweetie, I love you.”
“I love you more.” Aly said, and passed the phone to Ginny.
“Oh goodness, she is the cutest thing.” Ginny said and Hermione laughed. “You okay?”
“Yeah, I just don’t know what to wear.” Hermione said and Ginny laughed.
“Wear the skirt I gave you for Christmas, a black tank top, and a white button up shirt over it.” Ginny said and Hermione pulled out the outfit.
“You think that this skirt is alright?”
“Hermione, your almost twenty-two years old, okay. You are allowed to look sexy and professional at the same time. Trust me; you know I know my clothes.” Ginny said and Hermione laughed.
“Thanks Gin. I got to go. I will be there later; I have to do something after this meeting.”
“No worries, you can get everything done and get here.” Ginny said and Hermione thanked her before hanging up the phone. Hermione then got dressed in what Ginny suggested, and then found some black high heels, and slid them on her feet. She got all her papers together that she might need, and put them in her purse. She then made herself a cup of coffee, and ate a muffin that she had bought from the store. When she was done, she looked at the address Harry gave her for the interview, and took in a breath. She went to her room to check her appearance. She had to admit that Ginny was right. The black and grey pinstriped skirt was sexy yet professional, and the top went well with it.
“Well, this is it, no turning back now.” She said, and apparated to the address she was given. She looked up to see a very tall building. She swallowed, and walked into the building, and walked to the service desk.
“Hello, how can I help you?” A man asked.
“I have an appointment at nine, for a secretarial position.” She said and her nodded at her.
“Hermione Granger.” She said and he typed it into the computer, and he nodded at the information that pulled up.
“Yes, you are to go to the thirteenth floor. When you get there, you will see a woman, and she will tell you where to go.” He said, and she thanked him before going to the elevator. When she reached the thirteenth floor, the doors opened, and she saw the woman the man had talked about. Hermione walked up to her and smiled.
“Hello, may I help you?” She asked.
“Yes, I have an appointment at nine for a secretarial position. My name is Hermione Granger.” She said and the woman typed into the computer her name. A moment later she looked up and smiled.
“Just go to your right, and have a seat. You are last on the list.” She said and Hermione nodded. Hermione walked to her right a little ways, and saw about four other women there. She took a seat, and waited. About an hour later, which would make it almost ten, she heard a voice that she didn’t want to hear.
“Next.” A man called out.
“Damn.” Hermione said to herself, got up and walked into the office.
“Name?” He said, not even looking up. Hermione looked at him since the moment she walked in. His blonde hair was shorter than the last time she saw him. His shoulders were broad, and you could see the muscles through his button up black shirt. Hermione looked at him, and smiled.
“Granger… Hermione Granger.” She said while standing at the doorway. He looked up and was shocked.
“Granger.” He said as he stared. She looked amazing. She had filled out more than he thought that she would, though he had no clue why. Her hair had lost its bush like appeal, and she was tanned, only a small amount.
“Really? Back to calling me by my surname, sir.” Hermione said, because after all, this was an interview. All the negative thoughts she had about seeing him were pushed out of her mind. She wanted this job, even if it was for Draco Malfoy.
“Sorry, Hermione,” he corrected. “I was just surprised. Please, have a seat.” He said and she nodded, then sat down, and crossed her legs. “So how are you?” He asked, getting out of his chair, walking around his desk, and leaning against the front, right in front of her.
“I’ve been good. You know me… busy and happy.” She said and he smiled at her.
“Yes, I see that.” He said before grabbing a file. He opened it and skimmed it. “I see that you were secretary for a good friend of mine… in New York.” He said the last part slowly, and she noticed.
“Yes, for Mister Hamilton. He was a very nice man.” She said and Draco nodded. Hamilton didn’t hire people unless they were the best.
“So, what did you do for Mr. Hamilton, exactly?”
“I arranged his meetings, set his lunch dates, ran his errands, took calls, scheduled appointments, wrote out letters, mailed them, filed, decorate. I did just about everything.” She said and he nodded at her.
“And you substitute teach?”
“Sometimes. Mr. Hamilton likes vacations, so I had some free time to teach. I am hired to work at the Magical Beginnings School, ages four through seven. But, if I get a good secretarial position, they won’t need me.” She said and he nodded.
“You have been busy.”
“You have no idea.” She said and he smirked at her.
“You’re not married, work hard, graduated…” he mumbled as he read through her file. And then it happened. “Do you have kids?” He asked and she was taken back.
“Why do you ask?”
“Because since you are you, and if you do, they will be enrolled in the new school. This means that you may have to go to the school from time to time. I just need to be sure so that when you have to leave, I know it’s because of your child.” He said and she sighed.
“Yes, I do. I have one, a girl.” She said and he nodded. “And she is enrolled in the school. She starts next Monday.” She said and he nodded, writing something down in her file.
“What did you get paid at your last job?” He asked and Hermione looked up to meet his eyes.
“Fifteen fifty an hour, eight hour days, and one paid vacation that was up to five days.” She said and he nodded.
“That’s reasonable. So, could you please go wait outside for a moment, while I make a phone call?”
“Of course.” She said and she walked out of the office, and shut the door behind her. Draco sat down and grabbed his phone, dialing the memorized number as fast as his fingers would move.
“Hello?” Harry answered.
“Hermione, Harry, really? Hermione?” He asked again and his friend laughed.
“You said you wanted the best. Did you even call Hamilton?”
“Not yet.” Draco said.
“Yeah, well wait till you do. He hated having her to leave; you know he offered to pay her seventeen fifty, if she would stay.” Harry said and Draco’s eyes opened wide. “Yeah, I know, she is that great.” Harry said, knowing that his friend was shocked.
“But Harry… its Hermione.” He said quietly and he heard Harry sigh.
“I know mate… but doesn’t it seem kind of like fate?” He said and it was Draco who sighed. “I have to go; I have a house full of kids.” He said and Draco got confused when he heard a little girl say Lily’s name. “Call me later okay; let me know how it all goes.”
“Okay, I’ll talk to you soon.” Draco said before hanging up. He opened the file and called Mr. Hamilton.
“Mr. Hamilton’s office, this is Cindy, how can I help you?” A woman asked.
“Yes, this is Draco Malfoy. I need to speak to Mr. Hamilton about an employee he had.” He said and she patched him through.
“This is John Hamilton.”
“Hello John, it’s Draco Malfoy.”
“Draco, how are you?”
“I am doing fine. And you? How are Jamie and the girls?” He asked and John chuckled.
“Everyone is doing well. What can I do for you my boy?” John asked.
“Well, I am interviewing for a new secretary, and I have your former one here, and I was calling to see how she worked out for you. Her name is - -“
“Hermione Granger?” He asked.
“Hermione is very good at what she does. She did everything and never complained. She even babysat for me a few times. She is always there when you need her, even with her having a child. I paid her fifteen fifty and hour, but she is worth double that. Trust me on that son.” He said and Draco smiled, his mind made up.
“Thank you sir. I am sure that she will do great here.”
“You’re welcome. Have a nice day.” John said, and Draco said his goodbye before hanging up his phone. He got out of his seat, and went to his door. He opened it top see Hermione on her cell phone. Yes, he knew what it was, having one himself.
“Sweetie, when I am done with everything, I will be there. Yes, I will buy you something. I promise. Be good, I have to go.” She said and hung up her phone.
“Hermione?” He called out, and she looked up at him.
“Sorry.” She said and before she could explain, he shook his head.
“No problem. Could you come in?” He asked, and she followed him back into his office. “I just got off the phone with Mr. Hamilton, and he spoke very highly of you. So, can you start on Monday?” He asked and she smiled.
“Yes. What time?”
“You can come in once you drop your daughter off at school. What’s her name?”
“Alexz, with a z at the end, or Aly for short.” She said and he wrote it down on piece of paper. He then turned to his computer, and typed a few things, and then his printer started printing on a piece of paper. He got the paper out, and folded it, and slipped it into and envelope.
“Here is all your information for the job and everything else. Well I guess I will see you Monday. Oh, and the office out there is yours, so I’d think of how you want to decorate it.” He said and stood up, and she followed in suit. “It was good seeing you Hermione.”
“You too Draco. And thank you. I’ll see you Monday.” She said, and walked out of the office.
Chapter 4: Bedtime Story

Hey everyone, thank you all for the nice reviews. I am really glad that you like this story. Im sorry for the wait, but I have been so busy with getting everything in my life figured out, and it finally is getting there :) so, thank you for waiting, and I hope I dont make you wait this long again. <3 ty!
Hermione silently walked around the shop she was in, thinking about what had happened that day. She was shopping for things for Aly’s bathroom, and her own. Aly’s was light pink, so Hermione got her white towels, and white and pink things to so around her bathroom; such as a tooth brush holder, tissue holder, hand soap dispenser, things like that. She did the same for her own bathroom, but in black and white. After that, she walked around, picking up small things to add to her new home, and of course got Aly something, which was a new video to watch in the morning. Hermione checked out, took the new things home, and then went back to Harry and Ginny’s house.
“Mommy!’ She heard and a moment later saw Aly running out of the house to greet her. Hermione wasn’t surprised. Last night was the first night, ever, that Aly stayed away from home, without Hermione.
“Hi sweetie.” Hermione said as she scooped Aly up n her arms, hugging her tight. “How was your day?” She asked, walking back into the house, Aly walking beside her.
“I had fun. Aunt Ginny made it very fun. We made cookies, watched a movie, and got to go out and play. I helped her make breakfast and lunch. So did Lily.” She said and Hermione laughed.
“Wow, sounds like you had quite the day. Are you tired?”
“A little, but I don’t want to take a nap.” She said and Hermione laughed. They went in and Aly went to Lily and colored pictures. Hermione found Ginny, and sat down with her.
“Hey Mione, how did it go?” Ginny asked and Harry walked in and sat beside Ginny.
“Fine. Apparently I was appointed for an interview with Draco.” She said and Ginny’s eyes went wide.
“No!” Hermione nodded. “Well, what happened?” Ginny asked eagerly.
“I walked in, went up to the thirteenth floor, and I had to wait almost an hour or so before I was even seen, and he was very shocked to see me.” She said and Ginny nodded, silently encouraging Hermione to go on. “Well, I told him my name, and he smiled at me. I sat down; we talked, he asked me questions, then randomly asked if I had kids.”
“Oh gosh, what did you say? Why did he ask?”
“He asked because he knew that if I did, I would have enrolled them into the new school, so he wanted to know incase I needed to have the time off, or leave the office.” She said took in a breath. “And I told him that I did have a child. I told him her name and he wrote it down. I don’t know why.” She trailed off, her mind running a mile a minute.
“Well, that must have been awkward. So, did you get the job?” Harry asked.
“Yeah, he said I did, and told me to be there Monday, and gave me this.” She said and pulled the envelope out of her purse. She pulled the paper out and opened it, and her eyes almost popped out of her head.
“What, what is it?” Harry asked and Hermione smiled.
“It’s my job information.” She said and handed him the paper.
“He’s paying you seventeen dollars an hour?” Harry said and Hermione nodded.
“Apparently. And I think it said that I get two paid vacations, five days each.” She said and Ginny grabbed the paper out of Harry’s hand.
“Sweet. I’d like to have this job.” She said and Hermione laughed. Ginny gave the paper back to Hermione. “Well, I guess that you found the perfect job. It’s easy, you’re great at it, and you are getting very well paid.” Ginny said and Hermione nodded.
“Yes, and as long as nothing goes wrong, I won’t even plan on leaving.” Hermione said and looked over to her daughter. “Then again, if things go right I might have to leave too.” She said and Ginny nodded. Hermione sighed and stood up. “Well, we have to go. Got a few things to show Aly, then I have to make dinner, and get her to bed.” She said and hugged her friends and thanked them for watching Aly. She gathered all of Aly’s things, and they apparated home. “So, Alexz, what do you want for dinner tonight?”
“Can we have pasta?” Alexz asked and Hermione nodded.
“Why don’t you put a movie on in the living room and I’ll start.” She said and Aly ran to her room, and Hermione smiled when she heard Aly squeal.
“Mommy, I love my room. It’s so pretty.” Alexz said, and ran out with a video in her hand. She hugged Hermione and went to the living room, and put in one of her many favorite Scooby Doo movies. Hermione had gotten a few more pictures for Aly's room, a few new decorative pillows, and a new stuffed bear; but her pooh bear could never be topped.
“Aly, come here, I want to show you something.” Aly got off the couch and followed Hermione into Aly’s bathroom. “This one is for you.” She said, opening the door, and turning on the light. Aly smiled at it all and hugged her mother again.
“Thank you, I love pink.” She said and Hermione nodded. Aly picked the colors, but Hermione made the bathroom complete, and she loved that Aly loved it.
“Okay, go ahead and watch your video, and I’ll get dinner done.” She said and Aly ran back to the living room. Hermione quickly changed her clothes, and started making dinner. When the pasta was almost down, she told Aly to go put on her pajama’s, and finished dinner. When Aly came out of her room in her pajama’s, dinner was on the table. Hermione poured herself and Aly a glass of pumpkin juice, and they sat and ate.
“Mommy, will you get upset if I ask you a question?” Aly asked and Hermione looked at her.
“No sweetie, you know you can ask me anything.”
“Of course what is it sweetie?” Hermione asked, putting her fork down.
“Does my daddy know about me?” She asked and Hermione looked at her for a moment, while she thought.
“No sweetie.” She answered.
“Why not?” Aly looked up at Hermione while she twirled pasta on her fork.
“You see sweetie, before I got pregnant with you, it was a bad time. Things were hard.”
“Are they still hard?” Aly asked before eating some pasta.
“Some, but it is also a lot better.” Hermione said and smiled.
“So, does that mean that we can tell Daddy that I am here?” She said and Hermione looked at her.
“I don’t know sweetie. I hope so.” She said and Aly nodded, happy with the possibility of maybe. Hermione smiled at her and finished her dinner, in silence. After they ate, they cleaned up, finished Aly’s movie, and then Hermione put Aly to bed.
“Can I have a story?” Aly asked and Hermione chuckled.
“Sure. Which one?”
“My favorite one.” She said and settled into her pillows.
“Okay… Once upon a time there was a young girl. She was really smart, but was always seen as an outsider, because of where she came from. Then one day, she met two boys, and they became best friends. They went on many different adventures.”
“Like what?” Aly asked, though she already knew the answer.
“Well, you see, the boys didn’t like her at first. She always had the answers to the questions, and knew more than they did. They thought she was a bookworm, and wanted nothing to do with her. And then, one night, an evil man let a troll loose inside of the school that they were attending. The boys followed their house mates to safety; but they remembered that the girl was missing. They ran to where she was, and when they got close, they saw the troll. It was tall, big and ugly. They ran into the room and helped the girl. After that, they were all best friends. Throughout the years of their friendship, they fought against a big snake, evil doers, werewolves, dragons, even giant spiders. They were always in some sort of mischief. And then, an evil man wanted to hurt everyone that the three friends cared about. And one day, the evil man sent a boy to hurt them. But, the boy couldn’t do it, but knew that if he didnt, something bad would happen. Come to find out, the evil man wanted to curse this boy and his family. So, the three friends decided to help him, even though the boy was always mean to them. They took him to the best wizard there ever was. And they all helped him, and his mother. And after a while, the girl started to like the boy, but never said anything to him, because he wasn’t supposed to like her at all.”
“Well, because the girl was different from him. But one day, right before the evil man came to attack; the boy told her that he loved her, so she told him she loved him too.”
“And they kissed the most amazing kiss ever.” Aly finished and Hermione smiled.
“Yes, they did.” Hermione kissed Aly on the forehead. “And it is time for you to go to bed.” She said and Aly smiled.
“Goodnight mommy. I love you.” She said before shutting her eyes.
“Goodnight baby, I love you more.” Hermione said, before leaving Aly’s room, shutting the door behind her. Hermione locked up her house, turned the lights off, and went to her room. She took off her tee shirt, leaving her in a tank top and her pajama pants, and crawled in bed. Then, she thought of what came after the kiss that she and Draco had shared.
‘Hermione pulled away and looked up into his beautiful steel blue eyes. He smiled at her, and she smiled back.
“Hermione, I love you, I have for months now, and I know that I am probably going to die tomorrow, and I wanted to tell you.” He said and she leaned her forehead against his.
“We are all probably going to die tomorrow. Thank you for telling me. I have loved you too, but was afraid to tell you.” She said and he smiled.
“You never have to be afraid of me, at all, ever. No matter what, I am there for you.” He said and she smiled at him.
“I love you.” She whispered, and then he kissed her again. He held her softly, but tight to him. The way he kissed her made her knees go weak. She felt that she was melting into him. She kissed him back eagerly, and a moment later, things heated up. He picked her up and walked her up the stairs to his room that was in their shared head quarters, and gently laid her on the bed, their lips never parting. A moment later, she started to unbutton his shirt, and he pulled away from her.
“Mione, what are you doing?” he asked and she smiled at him.
“I want to be with you.” She said and kissed him. He kissed her back, and then pulled away.
“Don’t you think this is fast?” He said and she chuckled.
“Like we said, we might die. And I want to be with you. What if we do die, and we were only together for just this night? Don’t you want it to be one of the best nights you will remember?” She asked and he nodded, understanding her.
“Baby…“ He whispered. “Are you sure this is what you want?”
“Yes.” She said, and he didn’t have to be told again. He kissed her, lovingly. They discarded their clothes, and they made the love, for the first and only time of their relationship.’
Hermione looked at the clock and sighed. Monday was just two days away, and she was half regretting getting the job, and half happy that she would be seeing him again. She did love him, and she doesn’t regret their night together. She does regret not telling him that she had gotten pregnant, and that Aly was his. She wanted to, so many times, but was afraid. She rolled over and groaned. She decided to make sure that this Draco Malfoy was legit before she would make any decisions about telling him that Alexz was his daughter.
Chapter 5: First Day
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Hey everyone :) thanks for hanging in while I got this chapter posted. I hope you enjoy. R&R <3
“Aly, breakfast is ready!” Hermione called out to her daughter. A moment later, Aly came running down the hall, fully dressed in a pair of jeans, and a tank top tunic that was green and white. “I made you your favorite.” Hermione said and put Aly’s plate down in front of her.
“Pancakes with strawberries. Thank you mommy.” Aly said before she started eating. Hermione sat down, already dressed for work, and ate her breakfast too. “Mommy, can you braid my hair when we are finished eating?”
“Sure sweetie.” She said, and they ate in silence. Today was a big day for the mother and daughter. Today was Aly’s first day at Magical Beginnings, and it was Hermione’s first day working for Draco Malfoy. Ever since she saw him a few days ago, he had been haunting her mind. What if he was different and she told him the news… how would he take it?
“Mommy, are the other kids going to like me?” Aly asked.
“Of course they will sweetie; there isn’t a person that we know that doesn’t like you. Everyone likes you sweetie.” Hermione said and Aly smiled. A few minutes later, they finished their breakfast, and went to Aly’s bathroom so that Hermione could do her hair. She split it down the middle, braided one side, then the other. She looked up and Aly was smiling. Her hair was perfect for her, thank goodness. Hermione would have cried if Aly’s hair had been bushy. Aly was a perfect mix of Hermione and Draco, and thinking this, caused Hermione to smile.
“Okay mommy, I am ready to go to school.” Aly said, leading the way out of the bathroom. Hermione walked to her room, got her purse, and checked her appearance. Today, she was wearing a plain black skirt with a dark grey tank top, and a black mini jacket. She walked out of her room to the living room where Aly was ready to go, pulling on her jean jacket.
“Remember what we talked about?” Hermione said and Aly sighed.
“Yes. Don’t disrupt class, try to be nice to everyone, and don’t correct the teacher if she makes a mistake.” Alexz said and Hermione smiled.
“That’s my girl. Come on.” Hermione said and held out her hand for Aly to take, Aly gripped it tight, and they apparated to the school. Hermione lead the way inside and they went to the main office. “Hi, I’m Hermione Granger, this is Alexz, and today is her first day.” She said and the women smiled.
“Well congratulations Alexz.” The woman said and looked down. “It looks like she has Mrs. Jacobs as a teacher. Her class is down the hall, to the right.” She said and Hermione thanked her. This was supposed to be Hermione’s class, but it was obvious that the secretary job was better for her. She would be making about five dollars more an hour at the secretarial job. They walked into the classroom to see ten other kids.
“Hello, I’m Hermione, this is Alexz.”
“With a ‘z’, but you can call me Aly.” Alexz said, causing her teacher to laugh.
“Well, hello Alexz, with a z, I am Julia Jacobs, but you can call me Miss Julia, or Mrs. Jacobs.” She said and Alexz smiled. And before Hermione knew it, Aly’s mouth started going.
“Well, I promise to be good, and I’ll try to let other kids answer questions, and I promise to not correct you if you are wrong.” Alexz said proudly with a smile. Miss Julia had a gaping smile on her face.
“Well, that is good to know, but if I do make a mistake, please tell me after class.” Miss Julia said and Hermione shook her head. She knelt down and looked at Alexz.
“Why don’t you go and play, and I will see you at two, okay.” She said and Alexz laughed, but nodded. She hugged her tight, told her she loved her, and then watched her run off to go make friends. She stood up and looked at the teacher, and had an amused look on her face. “I’m sorry about that. She is really smart, and sometimes her mouth runs before her brain thinks.” She said and the teacher laughed.
“It’s all right; I find it fun to have a child like her in my class.”
“Well, I’m Hermione Granger - -“
“The Hermione Granger? Like, Harry Potters best friend?” She asked.
“Yeah, I’m that Hermione. Anyway, if you have any problems with Aly, please call me here.” She said and handed her a card.
“I’m sure we will be fine, but thank you.” She said and took it. “Do you have a cell phone?”
“In case of emergency, we want a number where we can reach the parent. If you don’t answer, we send a patronus. Mine is a white tiger. Remember that.” She said as Hermione took the card from her to write her personal number on the back. “We take really good care of kids, even if we just opened up. We are loving people, and your daughter is in great hands. Any other numbers we need?” She asked as Hermione handed her the card back.
“Nope I think that this is all you need.” Hermione said. “I gave you my work number and cell phone number. Oh, and if you cannot reach me, you can call my friend Ginny, or her husband, Harry, and they will come and get Aly. I already went through this with the admissions office, and they have okayed that Aly get picked up by her godparents.” She said and the Teacher nodded.
“Okay, great. Well, we are all set, and I guess we will see you at two.” She said and Hermione smiled. She looked over to Aly to see that she made friends, with two boys. Hermione smiled, waved to Aly, and left the building, and then apparated to her work place, and started making her way to her office. She had already packed a few things in her purse to put in her office, and that was what she was going to do first, unless Draco needed something. Hermione said good morning to the guy at the front desk, and got into the elevator. The elevator doors opened and she walked out and said hi to the desk clerk, Jane. She set her purse down on her desk and looked into Draco’s office to see him on the phone. She waved to him, and went back to her desk. She pulled out a few things from her purse, and set them on her desk. On some empty spots on the shelves she placed small things, like a ceramic plate on a stand that hand Alexz’s hand print imprint. She put up a picture of Ginny and Harry’s wedding, a picture of her, Harry, Ginny and Ron, and a picture of her and Harry. On her desk, she had a picture of her and Alexz, and a picture of Alexz that was recently taken, and one of Alexz when she was a baby.
“Hey Mione.” She heard and turned to see Draco.
“Hi, good morning.” She said and he looked around at her pictures and things.
“Not bad, a slight feel of home, but professional.” He said and looked on her desk to the picture of Hermione and Alexz. “Is this your daughter?” He asked and picked up the picture.
“Yes, that’s Aly.” She said and he smiled.
“She’s cute.” He said, and Hermione had the urge to tell him.
“Draco - -“She began.
“Hermione - -“He started at the same time as her.
“What is it?” She said and he smiled.
“We have a meeting that we have to go to.” He said and she nodded, grabbed a notepad and a pen, and followed him out of the office to go to the meeting. Throughout the meeting, Hermione took notes and just listened. It wasn’t the best way to start the day, but it was worth it. After the meeting, they went back to the office, and set to work. Hermione did filing, typing, made calls, got coffee, everything a good secretary should do. When it was time for lunch, Draco interrupted her from a letter she was typing.
“Yes?” She asked and looked up at him.
“You want to go and get some lunch?” He asked and she looked at him. She knew what he was asking, and she couldn’t help the feeling of a crush swelling in her heart.
“I’d love to.” She said, and he nodded. She turned to her computer and finished her letter. After she put it in the envelope and sent it with Draco’s office owl, she looked up at him again.
“Ready?” He asked and she smiled.
“As ready as I will ever be.” She said and they headed to the elevator.
“You know, you have been gone for a while, what have you been up to?” He asked and she got nervous. Would it come up?
“Well, after graduation, I moved to New York, and got a job as a secretary. Then I had Alexz, and still did my job. I was lucky enough to have a neighbor that was retired and loved to babysit. Other than that, my life is simple. I’m a working mom.” She said and he smiled at her.
“Well, it’s a good thing.” He said as the elevator doors opened.
“What do you mean?” She asked as they left the building and walked the street to wherever he was leading her.
“Well, because the father isn’t in the picture. So you have to take on two roles, because, I assume, he has never been around.” He said and she took in a steady breath.
“No, he hasn’t.” She said as they entered a small restaurant. They walked in and Draco nodded at the man in the front, who nodded back, and they walked to a table that was to the right. They sat down and Hermione sighed.
“Well that is no excuse, he should have taken responsibility.” Draco said and Hermione looked at him.
“He doesn’t know.”
“He doesn’t know what?”
“He doesn’t know about Aly, not really.” She said and he looked at her.
“You never told him?”
“Why?” He asked, shocked that the Hermione Granger, would keep such a thing to herself.
“I moved, I never thought I would see him again. So I just thought that to help him, I wouldn’t tell him.” She said and he nodded.
“That makes a little sense. But what if you do see him, what are you going to do?” He asked, and a waiter came over and took their orders for their drinks, and handed them menus.
“I haven’t figured it out.” She said after the waiter walked away.
“Well, I am glad that I am not in your shoes. I’d be going mad.” He said and she nodded. He would go mad when she finally figured out how to tell him that Aly was his.
“Well, I don’t want to just say, ‘hey, this is your daughter that you had no idea existed’. I need to get it right before I try to tell him anything.” She said and he nodded.
“I understand, I just find it hard to believe that you didn’t say anything. I mean, you are Hermione Granger after all.” He said, and smiled a smiled that made her stomach flip. God, how she had missed him.
Chapter 6: Falling
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
“Ginny, what do I do? He is asking questions, and I am running out of things to say, and god, his smile. I swear to god I thought that I was going to throw up.” Hermione said as she paced Ginny’s living room.
“Ew.” Ginny said and Hermione laughed.
“Not like literally. My stomach kept doing that thing where I was so, uhg, and he was smiling, and it felt like butterflies. Ginny, what the hell am I doing?” She said before her body fell into the couch beside her friend.
“Well, it sounds to me like you are falling for Draco Malfoy, all over again.” Ginny said and Hermione looked at her.
“Well, I can’t be.” She said flatly.
“I can’t, because he is my boss. I mean, how weird would that look?” Hermione said and Ginny shrugged.
“So? Who cares what people think? Hermione, you loved him more than you have ever loved anyone, including Harry. Did you know that he looked for you after you left? That he felt so bad that he didn’t sleep for almost a week. He didn’t eat, didn’t leave his house. He just stopped. Harry finally got to him, and helped him. And now look at him, he is just like the Draco we all knew and cared about, and so much more.” Ginny said and Hermione looked at her. “He still loves you, trust me. Just let it go and see what happens.” She explained and Hermione nodded.
“And what do I say about Aly?” She asked and Ginny shrugged.
“I don’t know. I have never been in this situation before. All I can say is, is that when the time is right, tell him.” She said and Hermione sighed. Ginny was right, like usual.
“Hey mom.” Draco said and Narcissa turned to him.
“Oh, Draco, it is so good to see you.” She said and got up from her seat to hug him. “How are you?” She asked before they pulled away. He smiled at his mother. She looked nice with short blonde hair. His father always made her have it long. Her eyes seemed to sparkle like a pool on a warm day. She was still beautiful for a woman who was forty three.
“I am doing okay. I found a secretary.” He said and sat down across from his mother.
“Well that’s good.” She said before sipping some tea.
“Yeah, it’s Hermione Granger.” He said and Narcissa coughed on her tea a little.
“Hermione is back?” She asked and he smiled.
“Yes she is.”
“So, what are you going to do?” She asked and he looked at her.
“There’s nothing I can do.”
“Why, is she married?”
“Then I am not seeing a problem.” She said and he smirked her.
“She has a daughter. Her name is Alexz, or Aly for short. She has dirty blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and a smile just like Hermione’s. I haven’t seen her yet, just pictures. Hermione said that the father isn’t involved.” He said, but his mother was only partially listening, and her brain was running a mile a minute.
“That’s a shame.” She said and looked at Draco. “So, why aren’t you going to try to get her back?” She asked with a smile.
“Mother, I don’t even know how she feels, and I don’t want to disrupt her small family.” He said and she smiled at him.
“Oh Draco, just talk to her. I am sure that she is having a fit over what is going on, just like you.” She said as she picked up a large book.
“What’s that?” He asked and she smiled at him.
“A photo album. I have been flipping through a few lately.” She said and he nodded. “There are some of you if you want to take them home to look at.” She said and he looked at her.
“You know, that sounds good. I need some pictures at home, maybe I will find a few that I can duplicate and hang up.” He said and his mother smiled.
“I’ll be right back.” She said as she stood up and walked to a different room. She entered the room and walked to a small stack of thick books. She picked up one and flipped through it. With Draco’s words floating in her mind, she saw the picture and smiled. She took that book and another book with her to give to him. One book was of her and her family, including a few of Draco, and the other was basically Draco over the years, including a few pictures of him and Hermione. She walked back to the living room and to see him on his cell phone.
“Yes sir, she is doing just fine. Yes, of course I am. I understand that.” Draco said, and would sometimes laugh. He looked up and saw his mother and smiled. “I understand, yes. I have to go, my mother just came in. Yes, I will say hello for you. Okay, I will talk to you soon. Goodbye.” He hung up and smiled. “Mr. Hamilton says hello.” He said and she smiled.
“Why were you talking to him?”
“Well, Hermione was his secretary for four years, and he was just calling to see how she was doing.” He said and she nodded.
“Well, here are two books. I hope that you can find a few of them useful.” She said with a twinkle in her eye. He smiled at her and took the books.
“Thanks mom, but I have to go. I have to prepare for a meeting that I have to present tomorrow. I’ll get these back to you whenever I can.” He said and she smiled.
“No rush dear.” She said and kissed him on the cheek.
“Love you mom.”
“Love you too.” She said and smiled as he left. ‘Oh Draco, if only you knew’, she thought to herself.
“Mommy, can we have lasagna tonight for dinner?” Aly asked.
“Sure. Well we are home now, tell me what you learned today?” Hermione asked and Aly smiled.
“May I borrow your wand?” Aly asked and Hermione handed it to her. Aly smiled and gripped the wand with a strong, yet simple grasp. “She taught us how to properly hold a wand.” Aly said and Hermione smiled. Aly then looked at a flower that she had picked for her mother, and saw that the glass it was in, was chipped at the top. Aly walked to it, and pointed the wand. “Repairo.” She said, and the glass fixed itself. Aly turned to Hermione and saw her mother smiling ear to ear.
“Oh, honey that is great. Soon you will be a pro, and then you will get into Hogwarts.” She said and Aly smiled.
“Well, we are only going to practice one a month, and I got it the first try, the other kids didn’t. But we are mostly learning the history.” Aly said and Hermione smiled.
“I am so proud of you. You are four going on thirteen, you are so smart.” Hermione said and Aly laughed, before yawning. Hermione smiled. “Go and clean up, and I will get dinner started.” She said and Aly did as she was told. Hermione went to the kitchen and started to get the food going. After a few minutes, she went and changed into some comfortable clothes. She went and checked on Aly, who had fallen asleep. She smiled and went to the kitchen and finished getting the lasagna together, and then she put it in the oven, and went to the living room. As soon as she sat down, her cell phone rang. “Hello?” She answered.
“Hey Mione.” Draco said.
“Hey Draco, what’s up?”
“I just wanted to call and remind you that we have that meeting tomorrow at ten.” He said.
“Right, I remember. Do you need me to bring anything?” She asked.
“Can you make sure that someone in the office brings all the guys at the meeting a coffee, and could you maybe pick up some sort of breakfast food? Like bagels or muffins.” He said and she smiled.
“Of course I can.” She said and he sighed.
“No problem, it’s my job remember.” She said and laughed. “Honestly, its no problem, I am more than happy to do it.” Just then she heard a scream, and he heard it too.
“What was that?” He asked, but Hermione was running.
“Aly?” She called out before she got to Aly’s door, to see Aly on the floor, passed out. Just then Hermione heard a pop and someone knocking on her door.
“Hermione? It’s me.” She heard Draco and opened the door, and he followed her as she ran to Aly’s room. She fell to the floor and pulled Aly to her.
“Aly? Aly baby, can you hear me?” She said and tapped Aly’s face. Draco knelt down and felt Aly’s neck.
“She’s not breathing.” He said and Hermione hugged Aly tight, and Draco grabbed her, apparating them to St. Mongu’s. Draco quickly pulled Hermione along.
“What happened?” A doctor asked.
“She screamed, and now she isn’t breathing. She was just sleeping.” Hermione said and the doctor took Aly and put her on a gurney. Hermione watched as they took her daughter into a secluded room, and told her she couldn’t come in. Hermione stood there like a statue, not knowing what to do. Draco saw her sway a little and wrapped his arm around her waist, and quickly grabbed her as he felt her falling to the floor. She cried, and Draco held her tight while she sobbed.
“Shh, it’s okay. Shh, it’s going to be alright. It's okay baby, we will get through this.” He said to her and she cried harder. Draco then grabbed his cell and dialed.
“Hey mate, what’s up?”
“Hermione and I are at the hospital.”
“What? What happened?”
“It’s Aly. She isn’t breathing.” He said and the phone line went dead.

-Contains Sensitive Issues/Topics-
Ginny looked up at Harry when he asked ‘what happened’, and saw him hang up the phone, and he just stared at the floor. Ginny got scared and ran to him.
“Harry, what is going on?” She said and he looked at her with tears in his eyes.
“Aly is in the hospital.”
“What?” Ginny asked her voice cracking. “What happened?”
“She stopped breathing.”
“Just like that?” Ginny asked angrily.
“I don’t know. I am going to the hospital.” He said and kissed her.
“I am too. I’ll be there soon.” She said and he apparated, and Ginny sent a quick message with her patronus to her mother. A minute later, Molly was there and Ginny went to the hospital, and felt her heart break. She saw Draco holding a sobbing Hermione.
“Draco, what happened?” Harry asked and Draco looked at him.
“I called Hermione to remind her about a meeting that we were having tomorrow. Everything was fine, and then Aly screamed, and Hermione, I assume, ran to her, and let me in because I apparated there, and we went into her bedroom to see her on the floor, and she wasn’t breathing.” He explained and Harry looked at Ginny, before turning back to Draco.
“Where did they take her?” He asked.
“There.” Draco said and pointed to a door. Harry went to it, and walked in. He was, after all, the Head of the Auror Department. Ginny knelt down to Hermione.
“Mione?” She said and Hermione tried to breathe regularly. She looked up at Ginny, and Ginny wanted to cry.
“I don’t know what happened. Just fifteen minutes ago, she was smiling at me, showing me a spell she had learned. Why did this happen to my baby?” She said and Ginny hugged her.
“I don’t know honey, but we are going to figure it out.” She said and Hermione nodded, and cried. Soon, they got Hermione to move to a chair, but she wouldn’t let go of Draco, for no reason. He held her nonetheless, and Ginny sat beside them. After another twenty minutes, Harry walked out, anger very evident on his face. Ginny saw him first and ran to him. “What is it?”
“She was cursed.” Harry said and Ginny gasped.
“What do you mean? With what?”
“They don’t know, they haven’t seen this before. She was cursed, with a poison. The poison is bad enough, but someone cursing it to do their bidding. Who does that?” He said and Ginny gave him a look. “Okay, but he’s dead Ginny.” He said and she shrugged.
“Harry?” A weak voice came from behind them, and they turned to see Hermione. Her face was dry, and she had stopped crying. Her eyes were red, and she looked like she got hit with a metaphorical wrecking ball. “What’s wrong with my baby girl?”She asked and Harry sighed.
“Come, sit down.” He said and Hermione followed. “Mione, Alexz was poisoned.” He said and Hermione nodded.
“Magical poison.” He said and she looked at him.
“You mean to tell me that some monster gave my daughter something that she consumed, and let the poison spread in her body, and then were able to control it as they wished?” She asked angrily, and a tear slid down hers and Harry’s cheek.
“Yes.” He croaked out, and Hermione shut her eyes.
“Who would do this to my daughter? She doesn’t know anyone, and no one knows her. We haven’t even been here a week.” She said, and Draco hugged her.
“Mione.” Harry said and she looked at him. “The poison is in Aly’s blood.” He said and she gasped. “Whoever did this meant it. And the doctors don’t know what to do to help her. They have her on monitors and there will be someone with her at all times.” He said and she cried harder. Draco pulled out his cell phone, and dialed. “Who are you calling mate?” Harry asked.
“Yes, hello, this is Draco Malfoy, I want to speak with Dr. Evans, and it’s an emergency.” He said and looked at Harry. “Yes, Josh, it’s Draco. I’m not too good, listen I have an emergency.” He began. “I have a girl here who was poisoned with a bad magical poison, and I am asking you to help. You are the best.” He said and waited a minute. “Okay.” He said. “They have her monitored and there is someone with her.” He went quiet. “Really? You think so?” He said and Hermione’s head shot up. “Okay, I will. Thank you. See you tomorrow.” He said and got off the phone.
“Who was that?” Ginny asked.
“That was my friend Josh. He studied medicine, and has studied magical and muggle poisons, for almost three years. He will be here tomorrow to look at Aly.” He said and Hermione’s arms went around his neck.
“You didn’t have to, but thank you so much.” She mumbled and he held her tight.
“Of course I did.” He whispered into her hair.
“What did he think?” Harry asked and Draco looked at him.
“He said that whoever did this meant it for a reason. He says that Aly should have authority in her room at all times, because the person might try to finish it. True, it is controlled by magic, but they would need to be by her to… kill her.” He said, and felt Hermione’s body freeze.
“I’ll be right back.” Harry said and apparated. A few minutes later, he was back with Luna. “Luna, go in that room, and don’t let anyone in without clearance.” He said and she nodded, and without questions, went to her job. Harry looked over at Hermione, and wanted to punch someone in the face.
“Harry?” He heard and looked over to Ginny. “Why did this happen?”
“I don’t know Gin, but when I figure it out, I am going to make sure that whoever did this pays.”
“Poor Hermione, I can’t even imagine how she feels right now.” Ginny said and Harry nodded.
“Come on, let’s go and get them some coffee.” He said and wrapped his arm around his wife, and they walked away, leaving Draco and Hermione alone. After a minute, Hermione sat up and wiped her face.
“Are you okay?” Draco asked and she looked at him.
“No, I don’t know when I will be okay. I can’t believe that this happened. I mean, I just don’t understand how it could have. I should have seen that something was wrong.” She said, and he pulled her to him, and kissed her. When they pulled away, she looked at him confused.
“You couldn’t know. No one could have known.” He said, and could see the tears forming in her eyes again. “Come here baby.” He whispered and she leaned into him, and silently cried. “We are going to get this figured out. I promise, we will.” He said, and rubbed her back. After a few minutes, Harry and Ginny came back with four coffees.
“She’s asleep.” Ginny said and Draco looked down to see that Hermione did fall asleep. “She wouldn’t want to be asleep.” Ginny said and set down two of the coffees.
“Let her sleep for a while, just a few hours.” Draco said and looked at his watch. “It’s almost 10. Wake her up around one or two am.” He said and moved Hermione so that she could lie down.
“Where are you going?” Harry asked.
“I’m going to go and get a few things. I’ll be back in about an hour or so. If anything happens, call me.” He said and Harry nodded.
“Wait, you’re just going to leave?” Ginny snapped, and Draco looked at her.
“I’m coming back, I swear.” He said, and apparated.
“His own daughter - -“ Ginny began to rant but Harry stopped her.
“That he doesn’t know is his, Gin.” He said and Ginny froze.
“I forgot.” She said and Harry sighed.
Draco first apparated to Hermione’s house, to get Hermione a few things for when she woke up. Just then he smelt something and ran to the kitchen. He pointed his wand to the oven and water rushed out of his wand. Hermione must have been making dinner and forgot all about it. He turned off her oven and opened it, and sprayed it with water, and coughed at all the steam that was coming out. A few minutes later, the air cleared, he took a look at the scene. Whatever she was making was burned to a crisp, but luckily her oven was fine, so was everything else. He sighed, and levitated the dish out of the stove, and placed it in the sink, and poured water on it. He then looked around the house and got things that he thought Hermione would need. As he walked around he saw pictures of Alexz everywhere. It was like he was watching her grow up in the pictures. They there were some of Alexz and Hermione, and some with Hermione and friends. He went into Alexz room, and picked up a few things to take back, including her favorite Winnie the Pooh bear, though he didn’t know it was her favorite, and a blanket. He then went into another room that was obviously Hermione’s and looked.
“I don’t believe it.” He said as he turned to see a picture of him and Hermione together. He smiled at the memory, and then went on to get Hermione a change of clothes, and a few personal things. He looked at Hermione’s bedside table to see a picture of Alexz that struck him in the stomach. He stared for a moment, and then realized why it seemed familiar. Alexz looked so much like his mother when she was younger. As Draco stared at the picture, he kept getting a nagging feeling that something was missing, that he was missing something. He stared more, and then his brain kicked in and he started thinking. He grabbed the picture, and then he apparated out of Hermione’s house, and to his own. He ran to his room and grabbed one of the books his mother gave him and started flipping. Page after page, he couldn’t find it. After looking for a few more minutes, he found it, and took it out. He grabbed the one he took from Hermione's and put them side by side, and studied them. She would have told him, wouldn’t she? He put them down and changed his clothes, before grabbing everything and going to his mothers.
“Draco, what are you doing here? It’s getting late.” Narcissa said and Draco looked at her, studying her face.
“Mother, look at this.” He handed her a familiar picture.
“Yes, it’s me when I was little.”
“How old were you?” He said and she thought for a moment.
“I think I was maybe four or five. Why?” She asked, and he handed her another picture, and even she had to take a second look. “Who is this?”
“This is Alexz, Hermione’s daughter. She was magically poisoned and I thought that Hermione would like a few things from home, so I went and got some things, and I saw that. I went home and found yours, and they are very much alike.” He said and she looked at the pictures again.
“What are you saying dear?” She said, and looked at him.
“I am saying that I think that Alexz is my daughter.”
Chapter 8: Josh Evans
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Hello everyone!!! Firstly, I am so glad to be back :) ; secondly, I am beyond sorry that this took SO long. Last November, when I went to upload the next chapter, my computer crashed... erasing everything!!! So I tried getting it repaired, & was without my laptop for 2 months. And then, I was diagnosed with a severe medical condition... and went through a depression. Just a few months ago, I started feeling better, but I have been super busy with dr.s and hospitals... but here is the next chapter, and I hope you enjoy this. It was fully written out, and I was just uploading chapters as it went on, but not only did I lose this story, but three others I had completed, and two that were in the works. But, after I get my surgery in October and I heal up some, I will get back to writing them out. I'm hoping to have this one uploaded completely before surgery...
Again... enjoy :)
A man in his early twenties, standing at six foot three, with brown hair and aqua eyes was rushing into his bedroom and began packing a bag with a change of clothes, some medical books, and a few tools that he was going to need. He had heard Draco upset and stressed before, but he had never heard his friend like that. Not even back in school. Just as he was zipping his bag, a woman that was the same age, and eight months pregnant came in. She stood at five foot eight, and dark brown almost black hair, and emerald eyes.
“Josh, what is going on?” She asked and he turned to her and smiled.
“Hey sweetie. I'm so sorry. I know that I work a lot and I am hardly here, but there is an emergency.”
“What, what happened?” She asked and he looked away from her. Since she was about four months pregnant, any mention of children in sad situations made her very upset.
“What?” She asked worriedly. “Is he okay? What happened? Where is he?” She asked and he walked to here, putting his hands on her face.
“Pansy, calm down, you don't want to over-stress right now, okay.” He said and she did some meditating breathing.
“I'm sorry.” She said in a much more calm manner. “What happened with Draco?”
“Draco is fine. He called me from St. Mungo's. He said that he was there with a girl that was badly magically poisoned. He wants my help.” He said and she smiled a teary smile at him.
“My handsome husband, the hero.” She said, wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Don't call me a hero. I don't know what is wrong with her, or if I can even save her.” He said and she smiled at him.
“You will, because you are you, and you are amazing.” She said before giving him a kiss. “Now go and save that little girls life, and keep me updated. Please?"
“Of course love, I always do. Now, got and get off your feet, you are going to pop soon and I don't want you to over-do anything while I am gone. Okay?”
'I am only four months pregnant, but yes daddy. Now go, and say hello to Draco for me.” She said and he smiled at her before apparating away.
“Where is he?” Ginny asked in an aggravated whisper.
“Don't worry, he said that he would be back.” Harry answered back in a whisper. Hermione was only a few feet from them, still sleeping.
“He said that he would be back in an hour or so. Harry, that was three hours ago. “ She said and they heard a noise and looked over to see Hermione moving around, and then opening her eyes. After a moment, she remembered where she was and why. She sat up straight and looked around, here eyes landing on Harry and Ginny.
“Anything?” Hermione asked.
“No, nothing yet.” Harry answered her, and watched her shoulders drop just an inch. She nodded and looked around, then met Harry's eyes.
“Where is Draco?” Harry and Ginny both opened their mouths to answer when there was a voice.
“I'm right here.” They heard and looked up to see that Draco had arrived. Hermione got up and walked quickly to him, and he pulled her to him tightly.
“Where did you go?” Hermione asked him.
“I went and changed, grabbed a few things for you and Aly.” He said, pulling out her change of clothes and handed them to her, then he pulled out Aly's bear and blanket, and her picture before handing Hermione the empty bag. “Why don't you go change, freshen up a bit?” He offered and she moved to tell him no, when Ginny hopped out of her seat and walked to Hermione.
“Come on Mione, you should go wash your face and change. Come on, lets go.” She said and Hermione looked at her, and nodded. Draco kissed her on the cheek before Ginny walked Hermione over to the ladies room. Draco turned to Harry and sighed.
“Where were you at mate? You were gone for hours.”
“I know, I'm sorry. I got side tracked for a bit. But, I did come back, that is what's important, right?” Draco said and Harry nodded. “I am going to go and put these with Aly. Let Hermione know, will you?” He asked and Harry nodded. Draco grabbed Aly's things and walked to the place that he had pointed out to Harry earlier. He got to the door to Aly's room, and Luna let him pass with a small smile. He smiled back to, and then walked fully into Aly's room. Seeing her on the hospital bed nearly broke his heart.
'Try not to be too long, okay?” He heard and turned his head to see Luna. “Hermione will want you out there.” She said and he nodded. She walked back out, and her turned his attention back to the little girl on the bed. He walked over to her her sighed. He straightened out her blanket and laid it over her, and then tucked the bear under her left arm, and then took a seat on the right side of the bed.
“Hey Aly, you don't know me... I am a friend of your mommy's... well, sort of. It's kind of a long story, that I hope to tell you when you are all better. Your mommy loves you Aly, she is so worried. But, she is very strong, just like I know you are.” He smiled and grabbed her hand, and gently held it. “I was mean to your mommy when we were kids, and then Vol- - a mean man tried to hurt everyone that we all cared about, and I was sent to hurt your mommy, but I looked at her, and I knew... I couldn't. Then she and her friends helped me. I fell in love with her...” He stopped talking and brushed some of her hair out of her face. “You like her so much...” He said his thought out loud, and smiled. He was very glad that Aly looked just like his mother. “Aly... please get better for your mommy... she needs you baby.” He said, and kissed her hand. He sat there for another moment before standing out of the chair, kissing her on the forehead, and walked out of her room.
“How is she?” Harry asked Draco when he saw him come out of Aly's room. Draco ran a hand through his hair and sighed as he sat down.
'Shes the same. Monitors are acknowledging that she is alive and breathing... but the way she is laying there. It looks like she is lifeless.” He said and Harry nodded. This was hard on all of them, and they needed a solution soon.
Hermione looked into the mirror and laughed a pitiful laugh. She did look horrible. She turned on the faucet and let the cool water fill into her hands before splashing her face with it. She did this a few times before drying her face off. She looked over at Ginny who was watching her quietly.
“What?” Hermione asked.
“Nothing, I just don't know what to do or say to make this better, or easier.” Ginny confessed and Hermione smiled at her friend.
“You don't need to say anything, you being right here with me is just what I need to help me get through this.” She said and Ginny smiled. “Now get your butt over here, and please so something with my hair.” Hermione said and the both laughed. Ginny took out her wand, and did a little magic to make Hermione look more refreshed. Hermione smiled at her friend. “This looks much better. Thanks.” She said grabbing the bag Draco bought her, and walked into a stall to change.
Draco sat there, with a lot on his mind, that he decided to keep to himself. He knew that Harry was watching him, but he didn't say anything. He knew why Harry was looking at him. Harry then stood and Draco turned to him.
'Coffee?” Harry offered and Draco nodded. “I am tired of the coffee here. Going to a cafe, do you want anything in particular?” Draco smiled.
“Can you get a large peppermint mocha coffee, a large autumn spice coffee, and two cranberry muffins?” He asked, standing and pulling money out of his pocket.
“No mate, I got it. I think that I might actually grab food, if there is a place open. What time is is anyway?”
“Almost 2 a.m.” Draco said and Harry groaned.
“Okay, well I will be back... with whatever I can get. Tell Ginny?” He asked and Draco nodded. Harry apparated away and a moment later, Hermione and Ginny returned. Draco looked up at Hermione and bit his bottom lip. He just grabbed clothes, didn’t really look at them, and he was glad. She was now wearing dark blue jeans with a lighter shade of bark blue wash on then, a white tank top with lace on the bottom hem, and an emerald long sleeve short on top if it. Its a simple out fit, but to him, she looked gorgeous. Her hair looked great to. It was straight, but styled to have most of it up out of her face in a nice little bun up-do. He smiled at her and stood up and she came to him and hugged him.
“Where's Harry?” Ginny asked.
“He went to get more coffee.” Draco answered, still holding Hermione.
“I am sick of the coffee here.” Ginny said, causing Draco to smile.
'So was he, so he went to hunt down an open cafe to get us some better coffee. I told him to get you peppermint mocha, I hope that s okay Mione.” He said and he felt he nod. Ginny smiled at them as she took a seat. A few minutes later, the hug stopped and the sat down, still holding hands. They sat in a comfortable silence until there was a pop in front of them. They saw Harry standing there with four large coffees, and two paper bags.
'A little help?” He asked, but it was muffled since there was bag in his mouth. Ginny laughed and got up, taking the bag out of his mouth, and her coffee from him, since it had her name on it. Draco took his and Hermione's coffee, and then took Harry's and sat it down. They all sat there as the decided what to eat. Hermione drank her coffee and munched on a cranberry muffin. She didn’t have much of an appetite. Draco was the same. Too much going on to even think about food.
“Excuse me, but I am looking for Draco Malfoy?” Josh said to the receptionist at the front desk after apparating into the hospital. The girl behind the desk looked through the papers and looked up at him.
“There is no one by that name.”
“No, he isn't a patient. He came in with a girl, she was poisoned. He's been here for a few hours with her now.” He said and she nodded.
“Right, the Granger girl.”
'Granger?” He asked, a little shocked. He knew that Draco loved Hermione, but she moved, and as far as he knew, she didn't have kids.
“Yes, Alezx Granger is the patient, Hermione Granger is the mother. I guess he is here with them. They are down the hall, take a left, then a right, and another left, and just walk straight. Go passed the doors and you should see him there.” She said with a smiled and he returned it.
“Thanks.” He said and went the way that she told him. Hermione Granger had a daughter. How did he, or Pansy, miss that? He soon came to the doors and opened them to see Hermione, Harry, Ginny and Draco standing. Hermione was talking to a doctor, and everyone else was a few feet behind her. The door shut behind him and Draco looked over.
“Josh? I thought you said you were coming in the morning.” Before Josh could answer, the doctor that was talking to Hermione, and Luna were in-front of him.
'Who are you?” Luna said and Josh smiled at her. He wasn't used to aggressive Luna... but, well, the loony Luna.
“Josh Evans, I was called here to help.” He said, pulling out his medical ID to show Luna. The doctor saw what Josh's ID card said, and smiled a big smile.
“Good, we need your help.”
“Josh?” Draco called and Josh walked to him. “Again, I thought that you weren't coming till morning.” He said seriously and Josh laughed at him.
“Dude, it is morning.”
Chapter 9: Tests And A Much Needed Talk
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Here it is, the next chapter. I hope you like it =]
Draco looked at his friend with a 'I'm going to smack you' look. He knew Josh was good on his word about coming in the morning, but he didn't mean literally that early.
“I know it is mate, but I thought that you were going to wait until like, six or seven a.m.. Regardless though, I am really glad that you are here.” He said.
“Glad that I could be here mate.” He said being pulled into a 'bro' hug by Draco. Draco pulled back and smiled at his friend. He turned to see Harry watching him, and looked back at Josh.
“Josh, you remember Harry, and his wife Ginny?” Draco asked and Josh smiled, shaking Harry's hand.
“Of course. How are you Harry, Ginny?” He asked, shaking Ginny's hand next.
“We have been better. Thank you so much for coming. Draco says that you are the best.” Harry said, Ginny nodding along.
“Well, I am going to try whatever it takes to help.” He said and saw the doctor walk away from Hermione and over to a room. Draco grabbed Hermione's hand and looked to Josh.
“Josh, this is, as you know, Hermione. You are here for her daughter.”
“You're Josh?” Hermione asked and Josh felt his heart ache. Hermione looked completely devastated, and tired. Her eyes were rimmed red from crying, and she look scared beyond her liking.
“Yeah, I'm Josh.” He said, and a moment later was engulfed in a tight hug from Hermione.
“Thank you so much for coming.” She said in a half sobbing voice. Josh wrapped his free arm around her and pulled her to him tightly.
“I am more than happy to be here to help.” He said and a moment later they pulled away, and Hermione wiped her tears. “Honestly, I am really glad that I am here. And I hope beyond everything that I can help.” He said and Hermione nodded.
“So, what exactly are you going to do?” Hermione asked him and Josh smiled at her, and motioned for her to take a seat. They all sat down and Josh pulled out a note pad and pen.
“Well, first, I want you to tell me exactly what happened today. From the moment you awoke, to right now.” He said and Hermione nodded, taking a deep breath. “Take your time, because I need as many details as possible.”
“Right, okay, well I woke up seven, and went to the kitchen to put on the coffee. Then, I went and took a shower, got out, and then picked out my outfit for work, it was my first day. Oh my god! Draco, what are we going to do about work tomorrow?”
“It's okay, I took care of it.” He said and she nodded before turning back to Josh.
“Anyway, I picked out a black skirt, gray tank top and a black mini jacket. I got dressed, did my hair and makeup, then I walked out of my room to Aly's. I woke her up and told her to find an outfit, then to go brush her hair and teeth. While she did that, I got some coffee, and cooked her favorite breakfast, pancakes with strawberries.” She said this and Draco smirked. That's his favorite too. “As we ate, she asked me to do her hair, braids. I did, and then grabbed my purse.” She said and waited for josh to write before she went on. “While Aly put on her jacket, we went over the rules.
“Rules?” Harry, Ginny and Josh asked. Hermione smiled and nodded.
“Rules.” Hermione repeated. “Don't disrupt the class, try to be nice to everyone, and don't correct the teacher if she is wrong.” Hermione said and Ginny laughed. “After that, we left and went to the school. We went to her class and met her new teacher, Mrs. Jacobs. Aly had pretty much relayed the rules to her teacher, who just smiled at her and thanked her, and told her to tell her privately if she did male any mistakes. I told Aly to go and play, that I would see her at two, and we hugged and she ran off. I turned to her teacher and introduced myself, and she was 'double checking' by saying 'Harry Potters best friend'. I told her yes, and gave her my card saying if there were any problems to call me. She then told me to write my cell number down to get a hold of me faster in case of an emergency, she also told me her patronus. And I told her that if in any case she can't reach me, to call Ginny or Harry, and they could come and get her. We said our goodbyes and I looked at Aly to see she made friends... with two boys.”
“Aww, just like her mummy.” Harry said and everyone chuckled lightly. Josh finished writing and looked up at Hermione.
“You are doing great. So what happened next?”
“Well, I left and apparated to work, which is for Draco, I am his secretary. I got there and decorated my area of work with some pictures, and a ceramic plate with Aly's hand print. Draco walked in and said that he liked the office. And then saw a picture of Aly and said she was cute. Then we got to work, we had to go to a meeting. I took notes for it, after the meeting, I went back to my office and did some filing, made calls, got coffee, typed up some things for work, everything that I am suppose to do. Then Draco asked me to go to lunch and we left and went to eat.”
“What did you guys talk about?”
“The usual; what have you been up to, where did you go when you moved, my life with Aly, Aly's father, and lack there of. Just catching up.” She said and looked at Ginny, who smiled encouragingly at her, and she smiled back.
“Okay, and then what?” Hermione then talked about the rest of her day, and it started to get harder to do when she got to when she heard Aly scream.
“Aly screamed, and on the phone Draco asked 'what was that?' I was running to her room, calling her name. When I got to the door of her room, I saw her on the floor, just laying there.” She said and Draco squeezed her hand. “I was about to go to her when I heard a pop outside the door. It was Draco, knocking on the door. I opened it and he walked in. We ran to Aly's room, and I dropped down next to her. I was tapping her face, asking her if she could hear me. Draco felt on her neck and said, 'she's not breathing', and then grabbed both Aly and me tightly and apparated us here. After that, it's kind of a blur.” She said and Josh nodded.
“You did great.” Josh said and looked at Draco. Draco then began to tell him what happened while he was at the hospital, and like Hermione, only kept a few details to himself. After another twenty minutes, Josh shut his notepad and stood up. “Thank you for your help guys. Now, what I am going to do is some blood tests. I hope to not have to take too much of her blood, but I need enough for the tests.”
“How many tests?” Ginny asked.
“As many as it takes. Sadly, there are tons of blood poisons, and I need blood to test them all, but the good thing is, is that I don't need much blood for each test, three drops for each test is more then enough, but again, there are a lot of tests.” He said and they nodded at him.
“Please, just do what you can.” Hermione said in a small voice and Josh nodded at her, and then walked off to the doctor, who waited patiently for Josh to get done.
“Dr. Evans, my name is Dr. Simmons, and I am taking this case, with your help of course. I deal with really important, top priority cases, and this is one of them. Now, I understand that you studied this sort of thing?” He asked, motioning for Josh to follow him into Aly's room.
“Yes sir, for three years so far, I am still working with it.”
“So, what is it that you need to do, because I have never seen a case like this in my twenty-seven years as a doctor.” He said as Josh walked to Aly's bed, checking her vitals.
“I have to do blood test to identify which poison it is, and then I will know how to cure it. It sounds easy, but it could either take me minutes, to days to figure it out.”
“I understand, it's just, I am not sure that the girl has days.”
“I know.” Josh said, putting his stethoscope around his neck and looking to the doctor. “That's what I am afraid of.” He looked around the room, and studied it for a moment. “I need a big table in here, a some extra vials, gloves, swabs, and syringes.” He said and the doctor nodded, leaving the room to get Josh what he needed. A few minutes later, maintenance came in with a table, and a nurse following the man expanded the far wall to the left a bit to fit the desk, and then handed Josh the bog she was carrying while the maintenance man set down the desk with his wand, and left the room. “Thank you.” Josh said to them as they left.
“Is there anything else that you need?” Dr. Simmons asked Josh, as Josh grabbed his bag and started setting everything out in a neat order.
“No, not right now, but I will let you know if anything comes up.” Josh said, and Dr. Simmons nodded before leaving. Josh finished setting up, then washed his hands thoroughly, put on some gloves, got a brand new syringe out of its packet, the rubber band tie, and walked to Aly. “Hey Aly, my name is Josh, and I know that you are hurting in there, and I am sorry. I don't know if your mummy knows that you are in pain, but I know, and I am here to fix it. Now, I have to draw some blood, and it may sting a bit, but I know that you are a big strong girl, so just hang in there sweetie, because we are here to help.” He said to her. He wiped her arm with a cleaning swab, tied the band around her arm, and stuck in the syringe. He drew out enough blood for about thirty tests, undid the band from her arm, and put a Hello Kitty band-aid on her arm. He looked at her for a moment, and then set to work. He got his first five vials ready for the poisons test, and tested the first five poisons.
“Do you think that he will figure it out?” Hermione asked Draco as they sat in a corner of the waiting room alone.
“Josh has been heard of as being the best. Plus, he really is just great at anything he does. The guy was made to be a doctor. So in my honest opinion... yes, I think that he will figure everything out. It just might take a while. Do you want to get some sleep?” He asked her and she shook her head.
“No, I just want everything better.”
“Better how?” He asked her and she looked up at him.
“Aly being better, getting out lived here on track, and maybe finally settling down. She's older now, and maybe I could handle getting myself lost in a relationship.” She said and he smiled at her.
“You have no idea how much I have missed you Mione.”
“Yes I do, because I have missed you just as much. Draco, why didn't you come find me?” she asked and he looked down.
“After that fight, which I know was bad, even though I don't remember what it was even about - -”
“Neither do I.”
“You walked out. I thought that you needed some time, that you would come back. But the next morning, you weren't’t beside me, or even there at all, you were just gone. And I did look for you. I searched all of England, and then Paris, but I couldn't find you. Harry knew that you were in New York, didn't he?”
“That ass. I asked him where you were because I knew you couldn't’t go long without writing or talking to him, but he said that he couldn't’t find you. Said he even had your owls followed but somehow there was some way that they lost track of yours. And I cant believe I bought it.”
“You looked for me?” She asked and looked him in the eye.
“I only just stopped about three months ago. I figured if you wanted to be found, you'd show up right in front of me, and then you did.” He said and she smiled up at him.
“I'm sorry I made harry lie to you.” she said and he cupped her cheek and smiled at her.
“It's okay, you are here now baby, that’s all I care about.” He said, before kissing her, making her sigh with happiness, and he smiled into the kiss. Just for a moment in the sad time that they were in, they were blissful.
Chapter 10: Positive
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Hermione looked up at Draco, and felt all those old feeling hit her head on. She never stopped caring for him, and she never stopped loving. She just forgot how much she actually loved him. She leaned her head on his shoulder, smiling a small smile of contentment. As she sat there, the smile started to fade. What was she going to do? He needed to know about Aly. It wasn't fair, it never was to begin with. She lifted her head and looked at him, to see his eyes shut. She smiled, and laid her head back on his shoulder.
“I forgot how good your kisses were.” Draco said aloud, causing Hermione to jump a little.
“I thought that you were sleeping.”
“No, just shut my eyes.” He said, opening his eyes and sitting up properly. “It has been a few hours. I think that I will go and check on Josh. He might need something.” He said before kissing the top if her head and standing up. Hermione watched him walk away to her daughters hospital room, and sighed. They had just spent the last three hours talking, sitting in silence, and stealing kisses. That is what she wanted. She wanted him, and it was obvious that he wanted her. The only thing that would make it all a dream come true, was if Alexz was all better.
Draco was happy, but feeling horrible for it. Here he was, basking in the happiness of him and his Mione, while Aly was most likely dying. He sighed as he walked into Aly's room. He saw Josh standing by Aly, taking a blood sample.
“How's it going mate?” Draco asked Josh as he pulled out the syringe, the third syringe.
“It's going. I have done about fifty tests or so, and I still haven't found the one yet.” Josh answered disappointingly.
“Hey, you are doing what you can right?” Draco said and Josh nodded. “What's wrong mate?” He asked. He knew Josh, and the look that Josh had, he knew there was something going on. Josh looked his friend in the eye, and sighed.
“I feel so horrible. I mean, I have made progress, thankfully. It's just... she's hurting.” He said, looking at Aly.
“What do you mean?” Draco asked, feeling a little worried, and scared for Alexz.
“D, she's in pain.” Josh said, and Draco's face went white. “You see, being poisoned like this... what happens is that you fall into a deep sleep, but in your mind, it's like you are in a dark deep hole, or room. And since the poison is at this level, the one who did it, is hurting her. I knew that when I took her vitals. Her heart is beating, but its racing, and its starting to weaken.”
“What.... what are you saying? Is she dying?” Draco asked, tears flooding his eyes. 'This isn't right', he thought. 'She's just a baby'.
“Yeah mate, slowly, and painfully.” Josh said and everything went quiet. After a moment, Draco walked to Josh's desk, where he was running some more tests.
“Do you need anything?” Draco asked in a low voice.
“Coffee?” Josh asked and Draco nodded. “Three sugars, two creams, large.” Josh said and Draco nodded before walking to the door. Josh turned back to his work.
“Don't say anything to Mione.” Draco said in a low voice before walking out of the door. If anything happened, he wanted to tell her.
Josh was waiting for the results of tests fifty-one through fifty-five, while reading a text book on all the different poisons and everything about them. He was reading about each one, just to be safe. Each set of tests took a little while to get done. Whenever he gets the right one, he would look it up, do a chemical test on it, and then he'd have all the answers, including the medicines Alexz would need to be better. As he was reading, a low ringing started coming from his bag. He dug into the bag, pulling out his cell phone.
“Hey baby.” Pansy said on the other line. “How are you?”
“Tired.” He said before realizing something. “Babe, what are you doing awake? You should be resting, and you better be off your feet.” He said and she laughed at him.
“Sweet heart, it's eight thirty. I slept, I got about seven hours of sleep, not to mention the nap I took last night, and will most likely take later. And yes, I am off my feet. I am more worried about you.” She said and he smiled. He really did love her with everything.
“I am fine, waiting for some results on the tests I am doing now. I am really hoping I have an answer soon. This is a bad one Pansy. It's Hermione Granger's daughter.”
“What?” She said, and he could see her in his mind sitting up dramatically when he said that, causing him to chuckle softly.
“Yeah, and her daughter is so cute. You would love her instantly when you saw her.”
“Well, how are Draco and Mione?” She asked in a sad voice.
“I don't know. I have been with Alexz doing tests for the last few hours, haven’t even left the room.”
“And how much coffee have you had?” She asked with amusement. He looked at the desk and saw 4 large cups, all empty, and he was drinking his fifth.
“I am on my second one.”
“You know me so well.” he said and heard her laugh a little, which brightened his world more.
“I do, and you are lucky for it. Now, the one you are drinking is your last cup, and get some food. And please tell Draco that I said hello. Now, I am going to go relax in a warm lavender and chamomile bath while I read a book about babies, so that we have something to talk about after you get some sleep. Then maybe I will pick out colors for the nursery, and some other things that would bore you.”
“It would never bore me. Enjoy your bath love, and I will call you as soon as I am done.”
“I know, and remember; no more coffee, eat something, and take your time.”
“I love you a million strawberry jellybeans.” She said and he laughed. She saw this movie once where a mother and daughter always used candy in a 'I love you' statement, and it stuck with her, and he loved it, and knew it would be passed down to his child-on-the-way, and the future children.
“I love you a million cherry licorice wands.” He said and she laughed. “Bye sweetie.”
“Bye baby.” She said and he hung up his phone. He drained the rest of his coffee, and the timer went off for the test results. He looked, and sighed. No match. He grabbed new vials, and set up for the next tests. After getting the tests going and everything, he got up out of his chair and stretched, causing some cracking, and then walked to Aly.
“Hey Aly, I am just gonna check you out, okay?” He said and got his stethoscope ready to checked her vitals. He then checked her blood pressure, and temperature. Everything was the same, except her heart rate was a little more shallow. He put the stethoscope around his neck, and brushed some hair out of her face. “Don't worry sweetie, I will find it.” He said before walking out of her room.
“How is she?” Hermione asked when Josh walked out of her room. Josh smiled at her and walked to her and everyone that was waiting for some news.
“She is still asleep, and she is stable. I am running a few more tests, but I needed to stretch my legs. I will be going back in in a few minutes, just needed to walk around.” He said and Hermione nodded.
“Of course, you should also get something to eat.” Hermione said and Josh smiled at her.
“Yeah I am. I have a horrible coffee addiction, so Pansy is always cutting off my coffee supply and making me eat so that there is no room for coffee.” He said with a laugh and Hermione smiled at him. “She wanted me to say hello to you, and Draco.” He said and Hermione smiled more.
“Please tell her that I say hello too. Now, go and get yourself some food.” She said and he laughed before walking off.
“I need some fresh air. Mione, do you wanna come?” Ginny asked and Hermione nodded. They linked arms and walked through some halls, before walking outside to a Zen garden that was in the center yard of the hospital. They sat near a weeping willow tree before they started talking. “How are you holding up?”
“Honestly, I am shocked that I am still breathing. I cant tell you how badly this hurts Ginny. I feel so... helpless. There is nothing that I can do, and that is just a horrible feeling.” She said and Ginny wrapped her arm around Hermione's shoulders.
“Well, I bought you out here because I have something to tell you, but I have been waiting until a good time, but I don't know when that will be, hopefully soon.”
“Tell me what?” Hermione asked looking at Ginny.
“Well, Harry and I are pregnant, again.” Ginny said and Hermione smiled at her, and hugged her.
“Oh Ginny that's so great. I am so happy for you guys. How far along?” She asked puling out of the hug.
“Almost two months. We had only just found out a few days ago, and I wanted to tell you, but then you had work, and then Aly... I just didn't want to upset you more.”
“Well I'm not, I am really happy for you guys.” She said and they made small talk for a few more minutes, before Hermione got antsy and asked if they could go back, so they started to make their way back.
Josh returned to Aly's room, sat down, and started eating his breakfast sandwich. Just as he took the last bite of his sandwich, the timer went off. He took a big drink from his orange juice before looking at the results. On test number fifty-seven, there was a positive match. Not letting himself get too excited, he did three more tests, with the same variable as number fifty-seven, and waited on the edge of his seat. While he was waiting, he heard a whimper that stopped his heart. He shot out of his seat and walked to Aly. He pressed two fingers onto her neck, and got worried. He ran to the door and saw Luna.
“Luna, run and find Dr. Simmons, its an emergency.” He said and Luna ran to the front desk.
“What's wrong?” Hermione and Ginny asked at the same time and josh looked at them. He didn't’t want to, but knew that he had to tell the truth.
“Aly's heart stopped beating.” He said before running back into the room, not seeing Hermione fall to the ground. He got to Aly's bed and started CPR compressions. A moment later, Dr. Simmons was in the room.
“I got a positive on a test, so I began rerunning it, when I heard her whimper. I checker her pulse and it was very faint, then it stopped, and I called for you.”
“Stand clear.” Dr. Simmons said as he pulled out his wand, said a spell and placed the tip of his wand on Aly's chest, giving her heart a shock, like with a crash cart. Josh checked her pulse, nothing. “Again!” Dr. Simmons shouted. Josh backed up, and the Dr. repeated the same spell and wand action. Josh watched horrified as if in slow motion; Aly's body rose a bit with the shock that flashed through her body, then wen flat against the bed. Josh checked her pulse once again, and let out a happy gasp.
“I have a pulse. We need to hook her up now.” He said and Dr. Simmons ran to the door.
“Kira, we need the works, now!” He shouted and a moment later a girl walked in with all the things they needed. They hooked Aly up to some saline, vitamins, and a feeding tube. While the nurse and Dr. Simmons got Aly comfortable, Josh walked out the the waiting room.
“Hermione?” Josh called and her head shot up and looked at him. His heart broke, because she looked so broke. She was on the floor, Draco was behind her on one knee, with both of his arms around her, and Ginny and Harry were on the floor in front of her. Ginny's held Hermione's right hand, with her arm around her shoulders, and Harry's hands held Hermione's left hand. “We got her back.” He said and Hermione's eyes shut as a tear fell down her face.
“Thank you.” She said with a cracked voice that was full of grief.
“We have her set with some vitamins, and a feeding tube so that we can keep her strength up. And, I think I found the poison.” He said and her eyes flew open.
“Yes. I got a positive, and I am running the test again, just to be safe. If they are all positive, then I will have the cure in a few minutes.” he said and Hermione smiled at him. Just then, he heard the small alarm. He looked at them and went back to the room to check the results. All positives. Before he even looked up the poison, he went back out there to tell them the good news.
“What is it?” Hermione asked him. He smiled at her before answering.
“We got four positive results.”
Chapter 11: The Suspect
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Hey guys. So i have been keeping my word on getting this story fully updated before my surgery. There are two chapters after this one. So I hope that you guys hang in there and finish the story. Thanks for reading, and I always love your reviews <3
“Four... is that good?” Hermione asked him, while rising to her feet, with everyone following her moves.
“Yes, it's very good. You guys can relax. Let me go look it up and study up on it and I will let you know what I find. Be back in a few minutes.” He said and walked back into the room, hearing a few exhales, and low laughing before sitting back at his desk. He finished his juice before opening the book of his variables, and his large text about the different poisons. After finding the name from the variables chart, he searched it up in the book.
'Est accipientis de Vitas; know in the English language as The Taker of Lives, is one of the most dangerous, and difficult poisons known to man. First created back in 1820 by a mad scientist, who was also a very dark wizard, named Thackeray Hayworth. He created the poison to spread trepidation amongst the town people who had tortured him for killing their family members. In the darkest of the times, he poisoned five women, ten men, and seven children with the poison.'
“Wow, what a whack job.” Josh mumbled to himself. He read the rest on the subject, and finally came to the cure that they would need.
Harry was walking back to Hermione, Ginny and Draco, feeling livid. He couldn't believe this. Hermione was going to feel so guilty. Of course, it wasn't even her fault, but he knew her better then most people, except maybe Draco. He had double checked, and made sure that they were right before he wanted to give the facts to Hermione. The facts were right, and Luna did amazing work. Thanks to her, they just may have the right lead to getting the answers that they need. He wondered how she was going to take it. He knew that he wanted to wait as long as he could, and he had. Now that they knew that Alexz should be okay, he needed to tell the, now.
“Harry.” He stopped and turned to see Ginny. He smiled at her and walked to her, pulling her into a hug.
“What's up Gin? After Josh went into Aly's room, you vanished. I looked for you, but I had a call from work about a case. Are you alright sweetie?” He asked when he saw the look on her face. He couldn't put his finger on it, but she had a look between shock and happy.
“You sure? You have this... look on your face.”
“I have something that I need to tell you.” She said and his mind went blank.
“When we found out that Aly was going to be okay, I took a little walk. I had an idea, and I wanted to find out something. So I went and did it, and I am glad that I did.”
“Okay, but what is going on?” He asked and she smiled at him.
“We are having a boy.”
“Looks like you are going to get what you wanted.”
“What?” Hermione asked Draco.
“You said that you wanted Aly to get better, and she will be soon. And you also said something about getting on with the other aspects of your life.” He said and she nodded. She turned and walked to the chairs and sat down, with him following behind her.
“So much has happened in the last day. I mean, first day at my job, Aly's first day at school, seeing you. Then the accident with Aly... it's a lot to take in. I feel like my head will explode.” She said with a sigh, leaning her head against the wall behind her. “And poor Aly... the pain she must feel.” Hermione said in a low voice, and Draco looked at her.
“What?” She lifted her head before answering.
“Don't you know? Poisons like this can hurt the person poisoned. She must feel so scared, and hurt so much.” She said, looking at him. “What?” She asked, seeing him starring at her.
“You knew that?”
“Of course I did... I'm Hermione, remember.”
“I know, but Josh told me, and he was almost in tears for Aly. How are you not?” he asked and she looked down.
“I feel numb. I mean, I know I am sad, and happy, and very angry, but when she gets her sure, and wakes up, the pain will be much less than what she feels.” She said and he nodded. “Why didn't you tell me what Josh told you?”
“I'm sorry... I just didn't’t want to make your pain worse. I told myself that is her condition got worse, that I would tell you straight away. But, when her condition got worse, all I thought was that I had to hold you, so that you know I was there. I felt like I had to hold you to earth, or you were just going to go away from me.” He said and she looked at him. He looked so said. More sad then just for lying to her.
“I'm not going anywhere. Not now, or ever again. I am home here, and in your arms.” She said, and he grabbed her hand.
“I missed you.” He smiled at her.
“I missed you.” She said, and he kissed her on the top of her head. That's when her train of thought kicked back into gear. 'I need to tell him, and I should right now. It's the perfect time. But, I still have that fear that if I do, he will get angry and leave me, and Aly, for good.' She thought, leaning her head back against the wall. 'I know, when Aly is cured, and we leave the hospital, we will go to my house, and I will tell him there. That way, she will be safe and home, and we will be alone and able to talk without anyone there.' she thought. Satisfied with that, she shut her eyes for a minute. What bothered her the most was not knowing who had done this to Aly to begin with.
“Hermione, dear.” Hermione heard and opened her eyes to see Molly there.
“Molly, what are you doing here?” Hermione asked, getting out of her seat to hug the woman that was her second mother.
“Ginny dropped off Lily and Teddy last night, and said she was coming here. Arthur is with them now, and I wanted to come and see what happened. I hadn't heard any word.” Molly explained and Hermione felt horrible for not telling her.
“Mum, what are you doing here?” They turned their heads to see Harry and Ginny walking around the corner to them. “Oh gosh, Mum, I forgot to come back. I am so sorry.” Ginny started to ramble before Mrs. Weasley cut her off.
“It is alright Ginny, I am here now to find out what is going on. Seeing that you all are alright, I am more calm then I was a few minutes ago. The kids are with your father. Hello Harry, Draco.” She said to the men standing in the same area as her.
“Hello Mrs. Weasley.” Both Harry and Draco said back. Draco had always liked Mrs. Weasley, and told her so when he and Hermione's relationship had gotten serious. Ended up that Molly thought of him as a son, which was funny, since she has so many to begin with, plus now Harry.
“So, someone tell me what happened.” She said taking a seat, and everyone sat along with her.
“Well, before we get into that, and I am sorry again Mione, but I have a small announcement to make.” Ginny said and Harry grabbed her hand.
“It's fine Ginny.” Hermione said, giving her friend a smile.
“Right, well, I am pregnant.” Ginny said, and her mother engulfed her in a hug.
“That is wonderful Ginny.” Molly said before pulling out of the hug.
“It's a boy.” Harry said, and Hermione's jaw dropped. They wanted a boy so bad. And now they were going to have him. Even though they have Teddy, they still wanted their own son.
“Congratulations guys. I am so happy for you.” Hermione said getting out of her seat, and hugging her friends. When she was done, Molly hugged Ginny again while Draco 'bro' hugged Harry.
“Good for you mate. I know how much you have wanted one.”
“Thanks mate.” Harry said back to his friend. 'What is Hermione going to do now? She needs to tell him. He has been here ever since the accident happened. Doesn't’t that prove that he wants to be here? Maybe she will tell him soon, so that they can both get what they have wanted for years.' He thought, before smiling at his friend. Everyone sat back down in their seats.
“Alright now, tell me what happened.” Molly said. After about fifteen minutes of getting the short and to the point version of the story, Molly was livid. “Well do we know who did it yet?” She asked.
“No.” Hermione, Ginny and Draco all answered. At this, Harry stood out of his seat to face all of them.
“Well, actually, we might.” Harry said and everyone looked at him.
“What?!” they all asked at the same time.
“When were you going to tell me?” Hermione asked.
“Well, I had gotten back a few minutes ago, and ran into Ginny, where she gave me the news of our son, and then I headed here to tell you, but Molly was here, so I waited. I have only known of the possible suspect for a few minutes.” He explained and Hermione nodded.
“Okay, well then, who do you suspect?”
“Aly's teacher.” Harry said and Hermione paled.
“You mean the teacher that is teaching Aly because I took the job for Draco?” She asked, and Harry nodded. He knew that she was going to do this.
“It is not your fault, okay. How were you suppose to know that she was a bitch?” Harry asked and she nodded.
“What do we do?” Hermione asked, standing up.
“We punch her in her face, give her warts, I hex her with a bat bogey hex, and then send her on her way to Azkaban.” Ginny said, coming to stand by her friend, just as Draco and Molly did.
“Ginny.” Molly said and Ginny shrugged.
“I like Ginny's plan.” Draco added.
“Why?” Hermione asked and everyone went quiet.
“What?” Harry asked.
“Why Aly?” Hermione asked and harry sighed.
“That's what we cant figure out.” Harry said and Hermione started thinking, trying to put the pieces together. But nothing fit. Hermione did not know this women, at all. And of course, neither did Aly.
“What is her name, the teacher?” Draco asked.
“Julia Jacobs.” Harry said and Draco went stiff, and Hermione felt it.
“What is it Draco?” She asked him, but Draco was looking at the floor.
“Julia, married to Thomas Jacobs, her maiden name Julia Hargrove?” Draco asked and Harry was dumbstruck.
“How did you know?” Harry asked.
“It's my fault.” Draco said and looked up. “It's my fault that this happened to Alexz.” He said and ran a hand through his hair.
“What? What do you mean it's your fault?” Harry asked, as Hermione asked the same question. Draco looked at Hermione and sighed.
“About two years after you left, I met Julia, and we went out on a few dates, but nothing else. One day she came over as I got an owl with a message saying that there was still no sign of you. She was always jealous and suspicious, and finally I told her that I couldn't be with her because... - - “ He stopped talking, and Hermione took a step closer to him.
“Because of what?”
“I told her that I couldn't be with her because I still loved you. The thing is, when we went on our first date, she started getting clingy-ish. I let it go, because I wasn't’t really paying attention. But on the third date, the third one, she was talking about out futures... children, wedding... the works. And I realized, that I never had those thought with anyone, but you. Even at a young age. She found out that I was still looking for you, and got mad. She tried intercepting letters, and burning the leads I did get. So I made her leave, and ignored her until she got the hint that it was never going to happen.”
“Crazy girl alert.” Ginny said and Draco looked at her.
“You have no idea.”
“I still don’t see how this is your fault.” Harry said.
“It's simple... I broke up with her because of Hermione, and the fact that she was crazy, but mostly because of Hermione. Hermione comes back, and Aly is in Julia's class. What better way to hurt me? Hurt the person I love, which would indeed hurt me, and it almost killed me. Her plan worked.”
“Well the rest of it won't. Josh will have the cure soon, and we are going to get her, now.” Harry said before apparating away on the spot. Hermione looked at Draco and opened her mouth to say something, when Harry arrived back with Blaise Zabini, George and Fred, and Oliver Wood. Harry motioned for Luna to come over, and she joined the rest of her team. “Okay, here is the plan. Luna, you are to not let anyone in at all, unless it is Josh or Dr. Simmons only. And when we leave, let Josh know.” He said and Luna nodded, going back to her post. “You three are coming with Hermione, Draco and I. We are going to the school to get this witch.”
“I am going too.” Ginny said, and Hermione grabbed her hand, showing Harry that she wanted Ginny there too.”
“Okay. George and Fred, I need you to entertain, and ask the kids questions, especially the ones in Aly's class.”
“It'll be - -” Fred began.
“Our pleasure.” George finished.
“Blaise, you will be in the interview room with me, and Mione, you and Draco will be behind the two way glass that we are going to set up, that way we can get the positive ID from both of you, and you can hear what happens. Oliver, you will be escorting the teachers for interviews.”
“Right.” Oliver said.
“Alright, Ginny, with me. Mione and Draco, you go together, and the rest of my team go however you want.” Harry said, and the group said goodbye to Molly, and promised to let her know what happened when it was over. After Molly flooed home, everyone apparated to the school. It was time for the truth.
Chapter 12: The Truth
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
The woman behind the main desk turned her head slightly as she heard a chorus of pops. A moment later the door to the office opened and Harry was in the front of the group, holding hands with Ginny, and the others following behind them.
“Mr. Potter!” The woman exclaimed standing up from her seat. “What... What can I do for you?” She asked nervously, and it showed as she ran her hands down her skirt, trying to flatten it to perfection.
“We have a situation, and I need you to put the school on a lock down, and get all the students in the auditorium for me, please.“ He said and the woman nodded, proceeding by locking the school down, running to the headmaster to deliver the news, and do the rest of what she was told. While that was getting down, Oliver and Blaise went to a room that was close to the auditorium to set up as an interrogation room. Fred and George went backstage, doing spells to get some of their products to show the kids. Harry, Ginny, Hermione and Draco went into the auditorium on the stage, and proceeded to try and figure out the best way to make the plan work.
“So, we three just kind of stand offstage, and then we three, again, will cast an invisibility spell so that the bitch won't see us, and we watch the interrogations, right?” Draco asked and Harry smirked at him.
“Yeah, that’s right.” Harry said.
“Thanks. Okay, so everyone will be here soon. Fred, George, are you guys ready?” Harry called from across the stage.
“Yep!” The twins answered right when the doors opened. All the students filed in, with their teachers following behind. Hermione saw Julia and took a step forward, but Draco stopped her.
“No, as much as I want to do the same thing, no. We need to do this Harry's way.” He whispered in her ear after pulling her to him so that her back was pressed against him. She breathes in deeply and nodded.
“You're right... but I still want to hit her in her ugly mug.”
“Me too babe... me too.” Draco said as he watched Harry walk onto the stage, and they turned to pay attention. Harry stood on the stage, staring out at all the kids. A moment later, the light came on and everyone could see him. As much as he hated this, he had to do this for Aly.
“Hey everyone, I am Harry Potter.” He began, and all the kids started to get a little louder and more excited. Harry held up his hands to get them calm. “Okay, so you do know about me. Well... do any of you know why you are here today?”
“No!” The whole audience answered, and Harry smiled.
“Well, I am an Aruor, and I have bought some people with me to talk to you all about safety, and then give you a fun, safe display of some really cool things. Does that sound like fun?” He asked and all the kids cheered.
“Geez, these kids are easy to entertain.” Draco said.
“No, it's because this is the first time, probably ever, that they have seen Harry.” Hermione said and Ginny laughed.
“True.” Draco said before tuning back in on what was happening on stage.
“Okay, so, I bought two of my good friends, who also happen to be my brother -in-laws, Fred and George Weasley.” Harry said before walking off stage, and the twins went on to do their job. Harry walked over to Ginny and grabbed her hand. “Okay, you guys need to do the spell now, we are about to go.” Harry said, letting go of Ginny. The three of them cast the spell just as Blaise and Oliver came back.
“Rooms are ready.” Oliver said.
“Okay, I got a list of all the teachers. I want them all done before we get to Julia. So, Oliver, go in order and bring the teacher to the room, we will head there now. Blaise, did you bring enough Veritaserum?” He asked and Blaise grinned.
“Oh yeah.” He said and Harry smiled at him.
“Great, okay, let's do it.”
As Fred and George entertained the kids, and talked to them about safety and their shop products, they watched the women that Harry told them about. While they did that, Ginny, Draco and Hermione were in a small room, now visible, watching through the two-way glass as Harry and Blaise interviewed all the staff at the school. Everyone had the same answer; no, they had nothing to so with Aly. With the Veritaserum in them, Hermione knew that it was all true. After two hours of watching the interviews, Draco felt Hermione’s hand squeeze his. He looked at her, and saw her face was livid. He turned to look in the room where Harry was, and saw Julia.
“I hate her.” Hermione said.
“I know, I do too.” Draco said.
“I think I could kill her... I want to.”
“Why not?” She asked before looking at him.
“I need you... and Aly needs you.” He smiled at her, before kissing her forehead, and they turned their attention onto the interview.
“Please, Mrs. Jacobs, have a seat.” Harry said and Julia did as she was asked. Harry picked up a bottle of water, undid the top, and set it in front of her.
“No thank you.” She said with a sweet smile on her face.
“You don't really have a choice. You either drink the water, or you get arrested.” Harry said and slid a warrant across the table for her to read. “We are in the middle of an investigation, and everyone we interview has to take the veritaserum. Just be glad you get it with water.” He said as he watched her read over the warrant.
“What is this all about?” She asked, sliding the paper back to him.
“Please, drink your water.” Blaise said. Julia looked at him with a sharp stare. She picked up her water, and took a small sip, before placing the bottle back on the table. “Don't make me do it... because I will pour it down your throat.” He said with a warning tone in his voice. She rolled her eyes, before drinking half the bottle, and threw it over their heads to that is smashed onto the mirror.
“Satisfied?” She asked, crossing her arms. Harry ignored her and looked down at his paper of regular questions to ask first.
“Is your name Julia?”
“Yes.” She answered nicely, as if she wasn't just mad a minute before.
“Are you married?”
“Do you have any children?” He asked and noticed that anger flashed in her eyes, before she smiled a small smile.
“No, not yet.”
“Are you a teacher here at the school?”
“Yes.” She said with a little laugh. Now it was time to get her.
“Do you know Draco Malfoy?” He smirked when he saw her smile fade.
“Is it true that you dated him?”
“Yes.” She snapped angrily at him.
“Is Alexz Granger in your class?”
“Do you know her mother, Hermione Granger?”
“Yes, I just met her yesterday.”
“Did you have anything to do with the poisoning of Alexz Granger?” Harry asked and everyone could see that Julia was fighting against the serum.
“Yes.” Her voice strained out.
“Why?” Harry asked her. After she struggled to keep her mouth shut, she finally spilled the truth.
“Because of that bitch!” she said.
“Who? Can you explain?” Blaise said, sitting back in his chair.
“That Granger brat... Draco loved me! ME! But it was always, 'I still care for her', 'I still love her', 'Where is she?'. It was all the time. I tried to help him, but no! Never! He couldn't be happy with me. It was all about her! And then her and her little brat walked into my class, and I hated her even more. Her daughter... with her pretty curls and cute smile... I knew it was perfect. Get the girl, hurt the bitch, then hurt Draco in return.” She said looking down at her nails. Harry turned his head a bit to the glass, knowing Draco was thinking 'Told you so Harry.' Harry turned back to Julia.
“So, why not just get at Hermione, why hurt that little girl?” He asked, and Julia's eyes met his and he was shocked at how much hatred was shining in her eyes.
“You know why.” She said and Harry knew exactly what she meant, and he knew Hermione did too. Julia knew that Aly was Draco's.
“Right, Blaise, cuff her, you and Oliver take her in.” Harry said standing up. He walked around the table and bent down to Julia. “Guess what bitch? You're plan failed. We have Aly's cure, and they are all going to be just fine. Enjoy hell.” He said and walked out, hearing Julia scream.
Harry met up with Ginny, Hermione and Draco before they all walked back to the twins to let them know that Julia admitted to the crime. The twins said goodbye, and promised Hermione that they would tell Molly what had happened. After that, the four of them apparated back to the hospital where Aly was.
“What did she mean?” Draco said.
“What?” Harry asked.
“What did she mean when she said 'you know why'?” Draco said but before Harry could think of an answer, Hermione stepped up.
“Draco, can you get me a coffee?” She asked and he nodded before walking off. “Sorry Harry. I am telling him when Aly gets better... where we can go back to my place and talk privately.” She explained and Harry nodded.
“I understand. I just hope that he takes it well.” Harry said before they all sat down. A few minutes later, Draco arrived with enough coffee for all four of them.
“I feel like a zombie... I'm so tired.” Ginny said.
“You can go home and get some sleep.” Hermione said.
“Not a chance.” Ginny answered back before laughing. A moment later, Josh walked into the waiting room where they were all sitting.
“There you are. Luna told me what was going on. How did it go?” He asked them.
“We got the person who did it. It was Aly's teacher who poisoned her.”
“Well, I have the cure.” Josh said and Hermione smiled.
“Yep, Hermione, roll up your sleeve.” He said before walking back into Ay's room. A moment later, he came out with a syringe. “I need some of your blood.” He said and got her arm prepped before taking some blood. He then put a band-aid on her and walked back into Aly's room. Hermione pulled down her sleeve and looked at Harry.
“She's going to be okay.” She stated, but it sounded like a question.
“Yeah, she's gonna be alright.” Harry said. A few minutes later, Josh walked back out of the room.
“Hermione, where is Aly's father?” Josh asked and Hermione paled.
“That's the cure. I need your blood and his blood as part of the process.” Josh said and after looking at Hermione for a minute, he turned to Harry. “Are you?” He asked.
“No, I'm not.' Harry said and looked at Hermione, who seemed frozen. Draco noticed this too, and understood why. He watched her for a moment before sighing.
“Then, I don't know what to do.” Josh said and everyone stood for a minute, not knowing what to do next.
“Here.” Draco said and walked forward, his arm already bare and ready for the needle. Josh looked at Draco for a moment, before doing what he needed to do. After getting Draco's blood, he walked back into Aly's room to get the cure fixed. Draco turned to Hermione and put his hands on her face. “Mione, are you okay?”
“What?” He asked her.
“How did you know she was yours?” She asked him, her eyes meeting his. He smiled at her.
“She looks just like my mum when she was Aly's age. Plus, when I looked at her, I just knew.”
“And you aren't mad?”
“No, I understand why you didn't tell me, but I wish that you did. But it doesn't matter, what does matter is that I know, I am here, she is going to be alright, and I'm not going anywhere.” He said before pulling her into a hug. Hermione closed her eyes, and a tear fell down her cheek. She knew that they stayed this way for about ten minutes, but she didn't care. She was in his arms, and that was all that mattered. Then, she heard Ginny gasp, and then heard the best sound in the world.
Chapter 13: Starting Over, Again
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]
Okay everyone, this is the last chapter of the story. This is also the last story I am posting for a while, because I am getting surgery. I kept my promise... I finished the whole story before my surgery :). I hope that you enjoy the chapter, and enjoyed the story. Thanks for hanging in there 'till the end.
Hermione's heart stopped. For a moment she was frozen on the spot, with her arms around Draco's waist. She opened her eyes, and slowly unhooked her arms from around Draco, and pulled away. She looked over to where Aly's hospital room was, and felt the air leave her lungs. Standing there, was Alexz, holding her blanket in her right hand, where it laid on the ground from her dragging it out of the room. And in her left arm, she was clutching her pooh-bear. Her long hair was down and wavy, and her skin looked normal and glowing. Honestly, she looked as if she just woke up from sleep.
“Aly?” Hermione whispered out. Aly smiled at her, and Hermione took three quick steps to her, dropped to her knees, and slid the rest of the way to her daughter. “Oh Aly, you're alright!” Hermione said before pulling Aly into a semi tight hug.
“Yes Mommy, I'm fine.” Aly said, snuggling onto Hermione's chest a bit. “I was so scared.” She whispered low, but everyone heard her. Harry stepped over to them, and Aly pulled away from Hermione, and beamed when she saw him. “Uncle Harry!” She said and leaped up, and Harry caught her and lifted her up and she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“I missed you Aly.” He said and Aly nodded.
“I missed you too. And Ginny.” She said and then there was a tap on her shoulder. Aly remover her arms from around Harry's neck and turned a bit to see Ginny.
“I missed you too sweetie.” Ginny said, before Aly dived into her arms. Ginny held Aly kind of close before lowering her to the floor. “You alright honey?” Ginny asked.
“A lot better now.” Aly said before looking around at everyone that loved her. Then her eyes met Draco's and she slowly let got of Ginny. Aly straightened up and looked up into Draco's eyes again, and she smiled at him. He smiled at her too, and started kneeling down when she started running to him. When she reached him she threw her arms around him, hard and tightly, and he pulled her to him as much as possible.
“I'm so glad that you are alright.” He whispered to her.
“I knew you would be here. I knew it.” Aly whispered back, but not as low as Draco's whisper. Hermione had heard her.
“Aly, you know who he is?”
“Yes, he is my daddy.” Aly replied, still clinging to Draco, her head buried into his neck. Draco looked at Hermione and studied her face. She looked dumbstruck.
“How did she know?” Hermione asked.
“Maybe like how I did, she just felt it.” Draco offered and Hermione smiled. Aly pulled away, and Draco kept her in his arms.
“Aly, what happened to you?” Hermione said and Aly looked down.
“I remember going to my room to change clothes, then everything got dark, and my body started to hurt. Then all I remember after that was being in a dark room. And every time I tried to get out, and call for help, I got hurt. After a while I stopped trying anything, and just sat there.”
“Oh honey, that must have been awful.” Ginny said. “are you sure your alright?”
“Yes. I also remember hearing a voice. It calmed me down, and made me feel safe.” She said before looking at Draco. “He said that Mommy loved me, but was strong, and said I was strong too.” She said before laying her head on Draco's shoulder. Draco was as solid as a rock. Did she really hear him? Before he could think on it any further, Aly began again. “He also told me a shorter version of my bedtime story, Mommy.” She said and Hermione looked between Aly and Draco.
“What?” Hermione asked. Draco looked at Hermione. Giving her a crooked smile, before turning back to Aly.
“You heard all that?” He said in a regular voice, and everyone watched as Aly beamed. They all knew, it was Draco's voice Aly had heard and took comfort in.
“Yes, I heard all that. I heard you say something else about Mommy, and I heard you call me baby.” She said and Draco smiled at her.
“What did you say about me?” Hermione asked Draco. He turned to her and smiled.
“I'll tell you later.” He said to her. After that, Ginny and Harry gave Hermione and Aly hugs and kisses, before apparating to The Burrow to tell Molly what happened, and to get the kids. Hermione had a few words with the doctor, and Josh before Josh left. Then, Hermione and Draco, who was holding Aly, apparated back to Hermione's apartment. Draco set Aly down and she ran to her room to get the rest that the doctor told her she needed. Hermione walked to the kitchen, and Draco followed her. He saw her cleaning up and just watched her. She was tense, and there was something wrong. After a moment of studying her, he walked to her, and wrapped his arms around her waist making her stop. “What?” He asked her, before leaning into her neck.
“What, what?” She asked as shivers shot down her spine.
“Mi, I know you. Something is wrong... tell me.” He said in a low voice into her neck and she sighed.
“You do know me so well.”
“I am so... off. I mean, Aly is all better, perfect. But I am still feeling so lost.” She said before he turned her around to face him. The look in his eyes made her knees feel weak. “You.. and her, and us.. it's just to confusing.”
“Stop.” He said and she hut her mouth. “Just stop.” He said and she nodded. “Things are perfect. Aly is perfect, I am never going to leave her, or you.” He said and she smiled.
“Really?” She asked him and he moved closer to her, even though there wasn't much room between them before.
“Yes, really.” He said before leaning and kissing her. Hermione's knees actually went weak, and she was lucky that he had an arm still around her, or she would fell to the floor. She felt fire overtake her body, and chills run up and down her spine. Draco was in the same boat. His heart was pounding so hard, he could swear that it was smacking on her chest. To put into simple terms, Draco was in heaven. He was so wrapped up in the kiss, his brain stopped, and his body took over. He ran his hands down her hips, and around, before lifting her up, and placing her on the counter, and she wrapped her legs around his waist for better balance. “I missed you.” Draco said between passionate kisses.
“I missed you.”
“I never stopped caring about you.”
“Me too.” Hermione replied before placing her hand on his chest, silently telling him to stop. He pulled back a bit, and rested his head against hers. He forgot that they needed to breathe.
“You okay?” He asked, still catching his breath.
“Yes, I just needed some air.” She said, smiling at him. He gave her a small kiss again before pulling away.
“I have something to say to you, that I have wanted to say for a long time, but more so since I laid my eyes on you.” He said and she nodded for him to go on. “I love you.” Her breath was caught in her throat. “I love you, and I have wanted to tell you that for years. When you left I was so mad, and then I was mad at myself because I couldn't talk to you, see you, touch you... it drove me nuts.”
“I am here now. And I am not going anywhere.”
“Neither am I.” He said before pulling her into another passionate kiss. After a few minutes, he lifted her up and carried her down the hall, heading to her room.
“Check Aly.” Hermione whispered. He nodded while capturing her lips again. He then steered them into the direction of Aly's room. They stopped kissing long enough to check and see that Aly was asleep. Draco shut her door while Hermione waved her wand and locked up the apartment before Draco caught her lips again. As they continued kissing Draco got them into Hermione's room, and kicked the door shut, then turned them around and lightly slammed her against the door, making her gasp into his mouth. Her hands went into his hair, making him moan. They continued this for a few minutes, before Hermione put her hand onto the door above her had, and pushed, making Draco walk them over to the bed where they were somehow able to lay down on, side by side, without even breaking the kiss. Hermione pulled away and looked at Draco, and smiled. “Draco.”
“Yeah?” He asked, looking up at Hermione's eyes.
“I love you.” She said, and smiled at him, before pulling him into another kiss. And soon, there was a pile of clothes on the floor.
The light started shinning into the bedroom through the window, making the room brighter with the sun rise. The light hit Hermione's eyelids, and she started to wake. She rolled over and opened her eyes to wake up. She blinked a few times before everything that she had gone through popped in her head. A lot of emotions went through her, until she remembered her and Draco last night. She smiled before sitting up, and turning to see that Draco was not there. At first she was confused, then she was hurt. He wasn't here. Sighing, she got out of bed and headed to the shower to get ready for the day. After her shower, she got dressed in a semi short black skirt, a white tank top with a bra shelf built into it, and a thin black tee, that was a little see through. She put on some socks and slippers, and walked out of her room to go and see Aly. When she got to Aly's room, Aly wasn't there. Hermione then checked the living room, expecting to see Aly there dancing. Aly wasn't there either. Then, she heard Aly laughing. Hermione turned to go to the kitchen, where she knew Aly was, and saw something that stopped her heart. There Aly was, sitting at the table, eating breakfast, and at the stove was Draco, cooking the breakfast. Aly looked up and saw her mom, and smiled.
“Good morning mommy.”
“Good morning sweetie.” Hermione said, and she looked back over at Draco, who turned around to look at her. She watched his eyes as he looked her over, and she saw the lust flash in his eyes. She smiled knowingly. “Good morning, Draco.” She said, walking into the kitchen.
“Good morning love.” He said in a husky voice, pulling her to him, and giving her a sweet morning kiss. Hermione was in bliss for a moment, before pulling away. Draco gave her a look that said 'what, why stop?' and Hermione smiled.
“Not in front of Alexz.”
“Oh please in front of me.” Aly said and they turned to her. “I think its so cute. Plus, I have wanted this for my whole life, so please, don't stop on my being here.” Aly said before picking up her plate, and going to the living room. Hermione looked at Draco and they both heard 'carry on' from Aly. Hermione laughed and Draco kissed her on the neck.
“Breakfast baby?” Draco asked and Hermione nodded. Draco made her a plate, and she sat down and began eating, and then Draco joined her. After a few minutes, Hermione couldn't stand the silence, but she did understand, they haven't had any actual food in almost two days.
“I woke up and you weren't there. I thought that you were gone.” Hermione said and Draco looked at her.
“Sorry, I am an early riser. But, this morning, I was really tired, but I heard something in the living room and got up to go see, and Aly was up, watching TV. So, I decided that I would make her breakfast and talk to her a little, try and get to know her a bit.” He explained.
“Draco, it's okay. I get it. It's fine. I was just saying that I thought that you were gone. Either way, I was gonna call you and make sure that you are alright.”
“I am perfect. I wanted to know how you are.”
“I am perfect.” Hermione said before drinking some juice.
“Good, because I want to talk to you about some things.” Draco began, but was interrupted by Aly walking into the kitchen with her now empty plate. She put her dish in the sink, and turned to her parents.
“So, is daddy gonna live with us now?” Aly asked and Hermione and Draco looked at each other with a smile in their faces.
<3 Three Months Later <3
Hermione was sitting at her desk, where she was still working as Draco's secretary. She had a new picture adorned on her desk; Aly, Draco and herself on the couch, taken the morning after Aly came home from the hospital. She smiled at the picture, before finishing her work on the computer. A few minutes later, Draco walked into her office, and kissed her on the cheek.
“Hello there sexy.” He said, and Hermione smiled up at him.
“You almost done?” He asked her and she nodded, right before finishing her work. She looked at the time, and shut down her computer with a tap of her wand. “Why?” She asked standing up and putting some files away, and some books on her shelf.
“Well, because it is the end of the work day, and I have a surprise for you.” He said and she smiled. She loved his surprises.
“Yes, but you need to go home and change, and I have some things to take car of. Oh, and pack some sleep clothes, and a nice dress.” He said, before giving her a kiss, and apparating away. Hermione smiled and finished up getting everything done, before walking to the elevator to leave. She would just pop home, but she was craving a peppermint mocha coffee and a doughnut. After she got all that, she then apparated home, where she ate her doughnut, and drank her coffee and she packed the things Draco told her too, plus some extra things like her hair brush and such. After she finished her small coffee, she took a quick shower and got ready. She put on a semi short black cocktail dress with an emerald ribbon wrapped around and tied, under her bust, into a simple bow. She then dried her hair, used a spell to straighten it to perfection, and then another spell to put loose beach curls. She grew her hair out a bit, so it was now just an inch or so longer, and it was great for curling. She then applied a little make up and lip gloss. She grabbed her purse, put some make up for touch ups in it, and grabbed the thing that she was waiting for the perfect time to show Draco. She got all ready and packed, just as there was a knock on her bedroom door. She smiled before opening her door.
“D, you said that already.”
“Wow.” Draco said again and Hermione smiled while rolling her eyes. “You look so amazing, I could just - -”
“Oh I know you could 'just' but don't you have a surprise for me?” She asked and he smiled.
“Yes, Alexz is at Harry and Ginny's house for the weekend, and they said that they can get her to school on Monday as well. Are you packed?” He asked and she nodded. “Don't worry, you are going to talk to Aly later. She wants you to do this.” He said and she nodded. Aly was very strict, just like her.
“Okay, well I am ready whenever you are.” She said and he smiled at her. He then shrunk her bag and put it in his pocket. He then grabbed her and held her tight.
“Close your eyes.” He said and she did. He then put a charm on her so that she couldn't hear, and of course she knew, she was Hermione. He grabbed her, rubbed his hand on her cheek, before apparating them away. Hermione stood still while Draco did whatever he was doing, and then they apparated again, the entire time her eyes were shut. A moment later, the charm on her ears was lifted. “Okay, walk slowly but keep your eyes closed.” She nodded and let him lead her to wherever she was going. She felt a cool breeze, making her shiver, but she didn't mind. It was November after all. “Okay, open your eyes.” She did as she was told, and the site before her was so beautiful.
“Oh my god.” She said and Draco chuckled beside her.
“So you like it?” He asked and she nodded.
“I love it!” She said as she stared at the Eiffel Tower. She was finally in Paris! She looked over at him and kissed him. “Thank you for this. This is so... amazing, and special.”
“Just like you.” He said and she smiled. “There is something that I wanna say.”
“Me too, but you first.” She said and he nodded.
“Okay, well... we have been together for a few months, and it feels like longer. I am so glad that I have you in my life, and I never want you out of it. Mione, I love you so much, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He said, before going on one knee.
“Oh my god.” She whispered as he pulled out a box and opened it to show a very beautiful princess 14k diamond with two small square emeralds on the side. She smiled at it, it was a taste of beauty and class, with a touch of Slytherin.
“Mione, will you marry me?” He asked and a tear fell down her cheek.
“Yes.” She whispered and he placed the ring on her left hand ring finger, and stood up and kissed her. A moment later, Hermione pulled away, and Draco pulled her into a hug.
“I love you.” He said and she pulled away from him and smiled.
“I love you.” She said before giving him a short kiss. “Okay, it's my turn.” She said before opening her purse and pulling out a camera. “But first, I want a picture of us in front of the Eiffel Tower.” She said and he smiled. Hermione loved taking pictures, it shows in the office and at the her home, and his. He got close to her and she got the camera ready. “Ready?” She asked and he nodded. As she went to click the button, he turned her to him and the camera flashed just as they kissed. Hermione pulled away and smiled.
“Now, what did you want to tell me?” Draco asked as Hermione put the camera into her purse, and pulled out a small picture. She took a deep breath and handed it to him. Draco looked at her, before looking down at the picture. He studied it for a minute and looked at her.
“I have only known for about a month, and I waited for the perfect time to tell you, and I had a feeling it would be tonight, so I bought it with me.”
“D, this is a picture of an ultrasound that I got done at a muggle Dr. office.” She said, not sure of Draco would know what it was. He looked up at her, and she smiled. “This time, I wasn't afraid to tell you, in fact, I couldn't wait. It actually hurt my heart to wait for the perfect time to tell you. And even though it killed me, I am glad that I waited.” She said and he looked between her and the picture. He had a feeling he knew what it was, but he couldn't figure the picture out. Hermione leaned over and pointed at something that was on the picture, and then he looked up at her.
“I don't understand.” He said and she smiled at him.
“I'm pregnant.” She said and after it sunk in, Draco smiled.
