A/N: Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time to read this book. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!
“Alexa!” I groaned. I hated how he stopped calling me Rex after I got sorted into Sytherin four years ago. You would think that having Sirius Black as a father would be awesome, but it’s a complete nightmare. He has hated me ever since first year because I wasn’t a Gryffindor like him. “Alexa Black!” he called again.
“What?!” I yelled from my room upstairs.
“Get down here now!!” I groaned as I walked down to the kitchen; where I knew he was.
“What do you want?” I asked. He nodded towards the table and I saw that there were two letters addressed to me. I smiled when I recognized the handwriting.
“Who are they from?”
“Draco and Blaise.”
“Oh, your filthy friends.” I rolled my eyes and ripped Draco’s letter open.
I was wondering if you would want to come to my house for the rest of the summer. Mother and Father say it is okay. Blaise is coming too, and we could go to Diagon Alley to get our school stuff. Let me know as soon as you get this letter.
I smiled and opened Blaise’s letter.
If you are going to Draco’s, floo over my house first and then we can go over together.
I laughed at the fact that he signed with the nickname I had given him our first year; which I outgrew calling him in the middle of our third year. I went over to a drawer next to the sink and got out two pieces of parchment and a quill. I told Draco that I would be over and Blaise that I would come over today. I sent them off with the family owl, Roxie, before turning to my dad. “I’m going over Draco’s for the rest of the summer.”
“No, you are not!”
“Yes I am. Besides, it gets me out of the house sooner; we both know how much you want that.” He opened and closed his mouth; not exactly sure what to say. “I’m leaving now.” I said as I started to walk out of the room. “See you next summer.”
“Aren’t you coming home for Christmas?” I turned around.
“No, I always go over Blaise’s. Why would I want to spend Christmas with a father who hates me?” Before he could retort, I walked out of the room, went to grab my already packed trunk from my bedroom, and headed back downstairs to the living room. I threw the floo powder in the fireplace, said “Zabini Manor,” and began spinning.
I stumbled out of the fireplace and was caught by a pair of strong arms. I looked up and was met by the pale skin, dark blue eyes, and black hair of one of my best friends, Blaise Zabini. “Hey there, clumsy.” he said.
“Hey Zubs.” I replied as I kissed his cheek. He took my hand and led me to the couch in the middle of the room.
“I told Draco that we would be going over tomorrow. Is that okay?” I nodded. “Good. Mum and Dad are at work so we have the house to ourselves until dinnertime.”
“What do you want to do then?” I asked.
“Do you want to go outside to my mum’s flower garden?”
“Sure.” We got up and he led me outside. We sat down on the bench under one of the big oak trees. He put his arm around me and I leaned into him; my head on his shoulder. “This is beautiful!” He placed his chin on the top of my head and sighed.
“Nah, it doesn’t compare.”
“It doesn’t compare to what exactly?”
“You.” I slapped his arm and rolled my eyes. “Seriously, you’re beautiful.” I looked up at him and pushed the hair that was hanging in his eyes away.
“You’re pretty beautiful yourself.”
He licked his lips and leaned in. I met him halfway and his lips crashed onto mine. He pulled me onto his lap and I let my hands go around his neck. My fingers played with his hair. We broke apart and my forehead rested on his. “Wow.” I breathed. He chuckled.
“Wow indeed.” My eyes landed on his lips. I could still feel the previous kiss and I craved for more. I leaned back in and Blaise eagerly met my lips again. His tongue moved back and forth across my mouth asking permission to be let in. I obliged and was hit by the amazing taste of peppermint and chocolate. My hands traveled down his chest and I began to unbutton his shirt. His hands moved under my blouse and I couldn’t help but to think that his skin on mine felt incredible. We broke apart after a few minutes; our hands on each other’s stomachs. We were panting slightly.
“Not bad for friends of four years, huh?” I said while smiling. He smiled back and caressed my cheek.
“Not bad at all.”
“This changes everything, doesn’t it?”
“A bit, but I think it was bound to happen sooner or later.”
“What do we do now?” I asked. He sighed, took the other hand out from under my shirt, and placed both on my thighs.
“Well, we can either forget what happened or go with the flow and see where it takes us.”
“I like option two.” He smiled.
“As do I. Do you want to head back inside?” I nodded, gave him a quick kiss, and stood up. He stood up as well, took my hand, and we walked back to the house.
He led me upstairs and to his room; which I had been in so many times before. We sat on his bed and began talking about our summers. “Well,” I said. “Dad ignored me the entire time, as usual. When he did talk to me though, he said how much of a disappointment I was to him and that he deserved a better daughter.”
“I honestly don’t understand how he could do that to you.” Blaise said. “He is your father after all.” I shrugged.
“It’s been four years. I’m used to it.” He shook his head and started to mutter words under his breath. “What was that?”
“Nothing.” I rolled my eyes, knowing that he was saying stuff about my dad.
“So how was your summer?”
“Eh, okay. The parents went on one of their stupid trips again. I didn’t go, so I was left by myself for a week.”
“They always leave you.” I said sadly.
“Not that I mind it. I wouldn’t want to go with them. I love my parents, I really do, but it’s nice to be away from them for a while.” I nodded.
Just then, I heard the front door open and a woman exclaim, “Blaise!”
“Coming Mum!” Blaise called. He took my hand and I smiled. I’ve missed Amy a lot and I couldn’t wait to see her again. When we got downstairs, Amy broke out into a wide grin.
“Rex dear! I didn’t know you were coming! What a nice surprise!” She pulled me into a hug and I sighed happily. It was nice to be loved by a parent; even if they weren’t my own. She released me and looked over at Blaise. “Why didn’t you tell me she was coming?”
“I actually didn’t know until today. Is it okay if Rex spends the night and then we can head over to Draco’s tomorrow?” Amy rolled her eyes.
“You three should be glued together. Yes, of course it’s okay.” Blaise smiled.
“So, what’s for dinner?” She threw her arms up in frustration.
“Can’t I get at least a little bit of relaxation when I come home from work?” He hung his head and showed her his puppy dog eyes.
“Sorry Mum.” She sighed and went over to embrace him.
“It’s okay, dear. I’m hungry too, so I’ll go whip something up for us. Is your father home yet?” Blaise winked at me and I couldn’t help but to giggle.
“No, he’s not.” Amy let go of her son and went into the kitchen. “She can’t resist that look. She tries, but to no avail.” I rolled my eyes and we followed her into the kitchen.
Steve, Blaise’s father, came home once dinner was put on the table. He apologized for being late, but he was caught up at work. He was surprised to see me, but happy all the same. I couldn’t help to feel overwhelmingly happy at the fact that he and Amy loved me like I was their own daughter. After dinner, Blaise and I went upstairs to get ready for bed. I went into the guest bedroom (which was practically my own room at this point) and crawled under the covers.
I was sitting in the red rocking chair next to the bed in my parents’ room. My mom was coughing up blood and throwing up. I couldn’t do anything to help her; all I could do was sit there. “Rex, come here baby.” she said when she was done. I walked over to sit on the bed and she pulled me close to her. “I love you so much. Don’t ever forget that.” I clung onto her tighter.
“Mum, you’re going to get better.” my twelve year old self said. She sighed.
“You are a strong young lady, Alexa Roxanne Black. I love you so much.”
I woke up with a start. I knew what was going to come next and I didn’t want to see it happen again. I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I got out of bed and went out into the hallway. I snuck into Blaise’s room and went over to his bed. “Blaise?” I whispered while shaking him. “Blaise?” He mumbled something and rolled over onto his stomach. I sighed and flicked him on the forehead. He opened his eyes and looked at me wide eyed.
“What are you doing here?”
“I can’t sleep.”
“Nightmare?” I nodded and he opened up his blanket so I could crawl in. He put his arm around me and told me to get some sleep. I smiled, feeling safe, and couldn’t help but to think one thing before I fell asleep; I was home.
A/N: So, what did you think? If you thought that I made Rex and Blaise kiss way too early, just remember that they’ve been friends for four years and the passion has been building for that long. Please review!!! It would mean a lot to me!
The next morning, I woke up to find myself sprawled all over Blaise. My head was on his chest, and half of my body was on his. Not that the position bothered me in the slightest. Our legs were somewhat intertwined, as if we were sending the message to each other that neither one of us is leaving. I looked up at Blaise and he looked so peaceful as he slept. I felt as if I could lie there and watch him forever, but I wanted to get out of bed and get some breakfast. I slowly untangled myself, but before I could scoot out of the bed, he pulled me back toward him. “And where do you think you’re going? Hmm?”
“I was heading downstairs to get food. And what if your mom or dad came in and saw me in here with you?” He chuckled.
“They wouldn’t care. They know that nothing would have happened.”
“Well, what would they say if we told them what went on in the garden yesterday?”
“They still wouldn’t care.” he said in a mocking, sing-song kind of voice. I rolled my eyes and tried to break his grip on me. I tried and tried until I just gave in and cuddled up next to him.
“You would think that I would be able to get away from you with being a tough, awesome Chaser and all.” I said. He chuckled.
“Well, Beaters are a lot stronger. We have to handle the Bludgers. It’s not easy making sure you guys don’t die!” I laughed.
“So we have come to the agreement that Beater is the best Quidditch position?”
“What about Seeker?” a male voice asked from the doorway. I looked over and saw my other best friend, Draco Malfoy. I quickly got up from the bed and went over to hug him. “Hey Rex, how are you?”
“The best I’ve been all summer.” He smiled knowingly and looked over at Blaise.
“Hey man. What’s up?” Blaise shrugged and Draco shook his head. “You guys do know that it is nine o’clock, right? I expected you to be at my house by now.” I rolled my eyes and walked out of the room and down to the kitchen to get something to eat. I saw Steve sitting at the table reading the Daily Prophet and Amy was drinking coffee across from him reading Witch Weekly.
“Good morning.” I said. They looked up at me and smiled.
“Good morning, sweetie.” Amy said, smiling.
“Did Draco go wake you and Blaise up?” Steve asked.
“We were already up, but yeah he did.” I felt hands on my shoulders and looked behind me to see Draco with his hair hanging in his eyes. I pushed it away and giggled. “Haven’t you ever heard of a haircut?”
“I like it this way. Can I talk to you for a sec?” I nodded and he led me into the living room. “Why were you in bed with Blaise?” I sighed and we sat down on the couch.
“I had a nightmare and couldn’t fall back asleep.” He nodded and hung his head to look at the floor. He snapped it back up to look me in the eyes.
“Was it the one about….?”
“Yeah.” He sighed and pulled me into a hug. I put my head in the crook of his neck.
“Why can’t this go away? Why can’t I move on? It’s been three years.”
“You loved her.” he said simply. I quickly broke the hug and got up from the couch.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m hungry!”
“What? I want breakfast; is that too much to ask?” He shook his head and followed me back into the kitchen. I sat at the table next to Blaise and he looked at me in confusion.
“What were you and D doing?”
“He asked me why I was in your bed.” I whispered. He rolled his eyes and placed his hand on my thigh. I closed my eyes at the touch and then the three of us waited for Amy to cook us breakfast.
About an hour later, we flooed to Draco’s house and were greeted by Cissy and Lucius. I hugged my second mother and shook hands with the man who was like my father (although he didn’t know that and I never plan on telling him because that would be completely embarrassing. I mean come on; it’s Lucius Malfoy for crying out loud!). We took our trunks up to Draco’s room and went back downstairs to the little parlor. “So how was your summer Dray?” I asked. He shrugged.
“It was okay, I guess. I had to attend party after party after party for three weeks straight. Then Mother and Father went on a quick vacation to Venice and left me home for a couple days which I was grateful for.” I smiled at him and then saw a snowy white owl tapping at the window. I gasped and went over and took the letter from it.
How DARE you just walk out of your dad’s house with no explanation and say that you won’t be coming home for Christmas! I always knew Sirius was right about you; you are worthless. You mean nothing. You’re just a pathetic waste of space and a disappointment. Maybe now that I’m moving in with Sirius he can see what it’s like to have a proper child. Oh well, all you Sytherins are alike. Good day.
Harry James Potter
I stared at the letter, reading each line over and over again. I clenched my fists and practically tore the parchment in half. “I am going to kill him!!!!” I let go of the letter and while it fluttered to the floor, I went to the fireplace. I threw in the floo powder and stepped into the green flames. “Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place!”
I stepped out of the fireplace and was greeted by the musty kitchen. I stomped into the hallway and looked in the living room, but no one was there. “Harry Potter!!” I screamed. Everybody, meaning the Weasleys, my dad, Hermione, Remus Lupin (my godfather; the only person in my messed up family who actually likes me), Nymphadora Tonks (who hates her first name so she just goes by her surname), Mad-Eye Moody, and Harry, came running into hallway. Harry snorted when he saw me and I advanced on him. “How dare you! What right do you have to send me a letter like that?! You have no idea what things are like for me! And your comment about us Sytherins is downright crap!! You know nothing; absolutely nothing!” I went to punch him, but someone grabbed my arm from behind. I turned around; prepared to hit them, but saw it was Blaise and I relaxed. I turned back around to face Harry and saw Draco walking toward me. I looked at him and Blaise with wide eyes. “What are you guys doing here?” They both chuckled.
“We didn’t want to see you get locked up in Azkaban.” Draco stated. I rolled my eyes at them and then my eyes fell on my dad. He didn’t look too pleased with having the boys in the house, but I honestly didn’t care.
“Rex?” I looked over to see who addressed me, and I saw that Remus had stepped forward. “Can I talk to you in the other room?” I nodded and turned to my boys.
“Go on. I’ll be home when I’m done here.” They nodded and walked out. I noticed that when I referred to the Manor as home my dad clenched his jaw, but I didn’t say anything. I followed Remus into the living room and after he put a silencing charm on the room, we sat on the couch and he sighed.
“Rex, I understand that you’re mad at all of them out there, but aren’t you being a little too harsh?” he asked calmly. I stared at him in disbelief.
“Are you saying that I should just forgive them for the hell they have put me through for the past four years? Are you saying to forgive and forget? I can’t do that, Remus! Okay, I can forgive everyone but my dad and Harry. Those two deserve everything I throw at them. They used to love me, but once I didn’t get sorted into the mighty Gryffindor house they turned their backs on me. If mum wasn’t as sick as she was three years ago, they would’ve gotten killed by her.” Remus nodded. “I mean, I’m happy where I am! I love being in Sytherin. I love my friends. I wouldn’t have survived in Gryffindor. I need to make my own legacy. Do you know what I mean?” He looked at me for a minute then nodded.
“I do, Rex. I honestly don’t know what is going through your dad’s head. Whenever your name comes up in a conversation, he changes the subject.”
“It’s because he hates me! I don’t understand why you can’t just accept that fact! I’m not like him so he hates me!” He sighed.
“I don’t think…” I held up my hand to stop him.
“Don’t Remus. Please don’t. Now, I have to get going. Blaise and Draco are missing me. I’ll write to you.” I got up to leave and Remus did the same before he pulled me into a hug. I gave him a small smile as he took off the silencing charm and I walked to the kitchen and flooed back to the Manor.
I stepped out of the fireplace and saw two worrying expressions on the boys’ faces. I sighed heavily and quickly walked to Draco’s room and threw myself on his bed. I dug my head in the pillows and felt like crying. But I didn’t. I hate feeling weak. I heard the door creak open and footsteps walking toward me. I turned my head and saw out of the corner of my eye that Blaise was crouched down next to the bed drawing little patterns on my arm with his fingers. “Rex, talk to me.” I turned my head away from him and he sighed but continued his actions.
“Come on, Blaise. Leave her. You know she’ll talk to us when she’s ready.” Draco said. Then, he walked out of the room. Blaise went from rubbing my arm to running his fingers through my hair.
“Rex?” I shed a few silent tears before I looked up at him. He wiped away my tears and cupped my cheek. “Don’t listen to them. They don’t know anything. You are not worthless. You are everything.” I gave him a small smile and leaned in to kiss him. He met me halfway and as his lips touched mine, I felt whole. I felt complete. I realized at that moment that I was loved.
A/N: And there you go! Chapter 2! What did you think? Pretty please with a cherry on top leave a review! I love hearing from you guys!
Blaise and I walked back downstairs to find Draco sitting in the kitchen with Lucius and Cissy. None of them noticed us at first, but when Blaise cleared his throat, they looked over at us. The adults had a look of pity in their eyes while Draco just looked peeved. He got up from the table and stormed out of the room. I followed him into the living room and he turned around to face me. “Oh, so you’ll tell Blaise and not me? You’ll let him comfort you but not me? I thought we were tighter than tight and now you don’t even tell me anything anymore!” I rolled my eyes at him.
“Blaise has always been the one I turn to in situations like this! Why is it bothering you now? You always give up on me the second I shut down. ‘Leave her Blaise,’ you say. You’re supposed to be my best friend, why can’t you be there for me?” He eyed me for a minute then something that resembled realization came onto his facial features.
“There’s something going on between you two, isn’t there?”
“That’s none of your business.” I said simply.
“Of course it’s my business. I’m your best friend! I have a right to know!” he exclaimed.
Just at that moment, Blaise walked into the room. “What’s going on in here?” I shook my head and walked out of the room. “Rex!” he called. I didn’t answer him and went to the fireplace. He grabbed my arm and that was when I looked up at him. “Where are you going?”
“I don’t think I’m wanted here.”
“Draco is being a prat.”
“I am not!” Draco said as he walked into the room.
“So, why are you two at each other’s throats today?” Blaise asked in a bored tone. It’s understandable why he used that tone because Dray and I are always bickering about something.
“Rex called me a horrible friend. And then she freaks out at me for asking if there’s something going on between you two.” Blaise rolled his eyes at him and shook his head.
“Honestly D, haven’t you learned by now not to get into anything with her while she’s in this state?”
“Oh, and what state is that?” I asked angrily. He looked over at me with a sad look. “You know what; I’m done! I hate the fact that you guys take pity on me and how you just shut down! I would think that my best friends would actually care about me instead of treating me like my father does!” I threw some floo powder into the fireplace and stepped inside. “The Leaky Cauldron!” I shouted.
I stepped into the old bar, greeted Tom the bartender, and sat at a table in the corner. I put my legs up to my chest and hugged them tight. It hurt to know that I wasn’t wanted anywhere. I went from feeling loved to hated in all but five minutes. It wasn’t fair. I just wanted to be happy for once in my life. But I guess l was born to be hated. I was born to disappoint my father and pitied by the people I called friends. I was so absorbed into my thoughts that I didn’t notice Blaise sit across from me. He tapped his fingers on the table and then his voice snapped me back into reality.
“Rex, I’m sorry.” I looked at him in shock. “I never meant to make you upset. I was just trying to get Draco to back off. I didn’t realize that I hurt you in the process until you flooed away.” I sniffled, trying to keep the tears from falling. “Come back to the Manor. Please.” I shook my head.
“I can tell I’m clearly not wanted. I’ll just stay here.” He took my hand which made me look into his eyes.
“Of course you’re wanted. We love you. I love you. You and D snip at each other all the time; what’s so different now?” I sighed.
“I feel so vulnerable. I hate it. You know how I hate feeling weak. And my father makes me feel that way. I feel unwanted, unloved, and worthless when I’m around him. It hurts, Blaise. It hurts. And when Draco was yelling at me earlier, I felt that same thing.” He stood up and pulled me to him. He kissed me with such love; I couldn’t help but to melt into his embrace. When he leaned back, I had a smile on my face.
“It’s good to see you smile.” he whispered. I let him take me to the fireplace and we went back to the Manor.
I didn’t even get two steps into the living room before I felt two strong arms pull me into a hug. “I’m sorry Rex.”
“If you and Blaise want to give a relationship a shot, I’m not going to stop you.” Draco said.
“Good to know.” I mumbled. He chuckled and released me. The three of us went back to the kitchen to find Cissy and Lucius still sitting where we left them.
“Are you all done with your little meltdown, Alexa?” Lucius asked. I almost let out a laugh at him using my full name. I had once asked him to call me Rex, but no, Lucius Malfoy was too proper for that. I smiled a bit and sat down across from him.
“Yes, Lucius; I am. You don’t have to hear me screaming for the rest of the day. However, I can’t promise anything afterwards.” He let out a chuckle and turned to his wife.
“Cissy dear, wasn’t there something you wanted to discuss with me in private?” She looked at him in confusion but then her eyes widened and she cleared her throat.
“Um, yes darling; there was.” Lucius nodded and calmly walked out of the room with Cissy following; although I could see how he wanted to break out into a run. A few moments later, we heard their bedroom door close and lock.
“Ew.” we said in unison, and then we broke out into laughter.
The next day, we received our Hogwarts letters with all the supplies we would need for our fifth year of school. After breakfast, we headed straight to Diagon Alley to buy them. When we arrived at the Leaky Cauldron, Tom greeted us as usual. We all nodded to him and went through the door that would lead us to our destination.
Our first stop was Gringotts Bank. We walked up to the head goblin and presented him with our keys. He nodded and got a goblin named Griphook to lead us to our vaults. Out of the three of us, I had the least money; mostly because after my dad received the letter saying I was sorted into Sytherin, he took half of my inheritance and put it in his own vault. But I was still richer than the average wizard (and this is because when the Malfoys found out, they gave me a decent amount of money from one of their vaults; even though I said I didn’t need it). After Gringotts, we went into Flourish and Blotts to buy our schoolbooks. Then we went and got all of our potion ingredients replenished. After that, we stopped into the Quidditch store to look around and see if there were any new broom models, but there weren’t any. Draco complained about not having a Firebolt and being stuck with his old Nimbus 2001; something which we, including Lucius and Cissy, completely ignored.
It was about three in the afternoon when we got back to the Manor. None of us were hungry and we agreed to an early dinner. Blaise, Draco, and I took all of our things up to Draco’s room and collapsed on the bed. “Damn, I never thought shopping could be that tiring!” Draco said.
“Dude, you say that every year. It’s starting to get annoying.” Blaise said.
“Starting?” I asked sarcastically. “It’s been annoying the whole entire time!”
“Yo guys, is it pick on Draco day?”
“Yep.” Blaise and I said. He rolled his eyes.
Dinner was a nice affair, like it usually is in the Malfoy house. Draco, Blaise, and I talked amongst ourselves and only talked to the adults if necessary. Not that they didn’t mind; Lucius and Cissy were too lost in each other to notice. It amazed me how they could still love and look at each other the same way they did when they were teenagers. I hoped to have that type of relationship. When we finished eating, the three of us headed back to Draco’s room to relax. We decided to call it a night pretty soon after because we were really tired and the next day was our annual Quidditch match. Every year, we invite our teammates from the Quidditch team and our friends from our house and have a big match. We separate into two evenly matched teams; and it doesn’t matter who wins or loses. Afterwards, there is a big lunch that Cissy prepares for us (with help from the house-elf Trixie). Blaise and I didn’t feel like journeying to our own separate rooms, so we just crashed while still on Dray’s bed. I fell asleep in between the two boys and I felt completely safe. It didn’t keep away the nightmares, though.
Mom, Dad, and I were walking around Diagon Alley getting my school things before I went back to Hogwarts for my second year. After about an hour of shopping, Dad really wanted to go check out the Quidditch store while Mom and I went to the robe shop. Mom let him, and while the owner of the shop was fitting me to new robes, she collapsed to the ground. I jumped off the little stage and ran to her. “Momma?” I asked, panic filling my voice. “Momma?!”
The scene changed and Dad and I were sitting next to Mom’s bed in St. Mungo’s. It had been two days since she collapsed, and she hadn’t woken yet. Finally, we saw her stirring. “Roxanne?” Dad asked. “Roxie?” Mom opened her eyes and smiled. Dad flew into her arms and held her tight. “Oh, Roxie; I love you so much. So much.”
The scene changed once more and Mom was hugging me while lying in her bed. “You are a strong young lady, Alexa Roxanne Black. I love you so much.” Her arms went limp around me and I leaned back to look at her. She was gone.
“Momma…” I said while tears came running down my cheeks. The door creaked open and I looked behind me to see Dad standing in the doorway. “She’s gone. Mom’s gone, Dad.” Instead of filling with tears like I’d expected, his eyes filled with anger.
“This is your fault! You’re the reason your mother’s dead!” He advanced toward me and I got up from the bed and backed into the corner of the room.
I screamed and sat straight up in bed. I felt a hand rubbing my back and looked over at Draco, who was fast asleep. I turned my head the other way and saw Blaise staring at me. I started to tear up and collapsed into him; burying my head into his chest. I let the tears come and cried hysterically. He continued rubbing my back. “Momma…” I said quietly through my sobs. Blaise kissed the top of my head and whispered soothing words. When I calmed down, I looked up to find him staring at me with worry.
“You okay?” he asked. I shook my head and he softly kissed me. “Which one was it this time?”
“It was strange. Three different scenes played in my head. The one when we were in Diagon Alley, St. Mungo’s, and then finally in the bedroom where she….yeah.” He nodded and kissed my forehead.
“Get some sleep.”
“I don’t want to.” He situated us so I was lying on my side and his arm was around my waist. He put his one leg over both of mine and kissed the nape of my neck.
“I’m here; always will be. Go to sleep.” I nodded and relaxed into him. After listening to him breath for a few minutes, I let myself fall into a deep slumber.
A/N: So, how do you like this chapter? I know some of you reviewed that you would like to see more of the nightmare from Chapter 1 so that’s what I did for you. Please leave a review! I love your feedback!! :D
The next morning, the sun was shining brightly and I knew it was going to be the perfect day for Quidditch. I lied in bed, still being held by Blaise, listening to him breath as I watched Draco. I was kind of worried of how he would react when he saw his two best friends positioned the way we were, but then I thought back to what he said about not stopping us if we wanted to have a relationship. I felt Blaise stirring next to me, so I turned myself around so I could see his face. He slowly opened his eyes and smiled when he saw me.
“Morning.” he said groggily. I smiled and snuggled up close to him.
“Good morning.” He tightened his grip around my waist as he moved to lie on his back and I put my head on his chest. He ran his hand up and down my arm which gave me goosebumps.
“Did you sleep well?” he asked.
“Yeah, I guess.” He kissed the top of my head and smelled my hair. “What time is it?” He looked over at the bedside table.
“Nine o’clock.” I sighed and got up out of bed.
“Let’s go get some breakfast.” Blaise looked over at Draco then back to me. “Come on, Blaise. You know he won’t wake up until ten.” He agreed and we made our way downstairs.
When we got to the kitchen, we saw Narcissa over the stove with Trixie by her side. “So I just put the ham in the pot with the barbeque sauce?”
“That’s right, Miss.” Trixie replied.
“Good morning, Cissy!” I greeted. She turned around and smiled.
“Good morning, Rex and Blaise. Sleep well?” I shrugged.
“Not at first, but yeah I did.” She frowned a little and turned back to her cooking.
“Breakfast is on the table. Help yourselves.” We thanked her and grabbed some pastries and pumpkin juice.
“So, are you excited for the game today?” Blaise asked.
“A ka-der!!” I exclaimed. He laughed and sipped his drink.“Who’s all coming; the same group as last year?” He nodded.
“However, Pansy is joining us too.”
“What?! She can’t even play Quidditch!” He shrugged.
“Draco invited her.”
“I have no idea. I spoke to him briefly about it and he said he thought it was a good idea. He said it could help him.” I furrowed my eyebrows, but then widened my eyes.
“I’m going to kill him!”
“Wait….why? What did D do?” I sighed in frustration.
“He’s doing this all wrong!”
I got up from the table and stormed upstairs. I opened the door to Draco’s room forcefully to find him standing in the middle of the room wearing nothing but his boxers.
“What the hell are you thinking?!” I practically yelled.
“Whoa Rex, what is going on?” he replied, shocked.
“Pansy; really Dray?”
“What the bloody hell are you talking about?!”
“You invited PANSY!!!!!”
“Yes….” he said slowly.
“What the hell?!”
“Rex, it’ll help me….”
‘’No it won’t! Everyone in the whole school thinks you’re the Slytherin Sex God!! If you hook up with Pansy, it’ll just prove to everyone that they were right; including Weaselette!!”
“Don’t call her that!” Draco exclaimed.
“Sorry, it’s a habit.” I said. He rolled his eyes. “But seriously Dray, if you want to get the girl, you can’t involve yourself with the scum Parkinson.” He sighed and plopped himself on the bed.
“Then what do I do, Rex?”
“You just have to prove to Ginny that you’re not the person everyone thinks you are.” I said, sitting next to him.
“How?” I groaned.
“Do I have to do everything for you? I’m not the one who’s madly in love with her; you are. You figure it out.” He put his head into his hands.
“This girl stuff is so hard!” I giggled and rubbed his back.
“It’ll all turn out okay.” I said comfortingly.
“What about Potter, Granger, and Weasley?”
“Don’t worry about them yet. Focus on getting your dream girl first. Then everything will fall into place.” He nodded. “Now get dressed and come downstairs. Everybody’s coming around eleven.”
At eleven o’clock, the doorbell rang. “I’ll get it!” I said as I walked out of the kitchen. I opened the door with a big smile on my face, but it quickly fell when I saw who was standing there. “Oh. Hi Pansy.” She gave me a weird look.
“Don’t look so excited to see me.”
“I’m not.” She rolled her eyes and pushed past me.
“It’s really none of your business.”
“Well of course it is! He did invite me.” I rolled my eyes, closed the door, and started for the kitchen. To my annoyance, she followed. I turned around and put on a fake smile.
“Draco, Blaise, and I are busy getting things ready for the match. Could you do us a big favor and wait out here and greet the other people that come?”
“Sure!” she sang happily. I walked back to the kitchen and started bursting out laughing when I saw the boys look at me.
“What’s up?” Blaise asked, a huge grin appearing on his face.
“I convinced Pansy to be the doorman!” I said while tears where running down my cheeks.
The match was really fun. Blaise, Draco, I were on the same team; naturally. Everyone calls us the Unstoppable Trio. Ever since we all got on the team together, we’ve won every single game; except a few that we lost to Gryffindor (grrrrr). With Blaise being an awesome Beater, Draco being an amazing Seeker and myself being phenomenal Chaser, the Slytherin team has never seen so many victories. Of course, our team won, but that wasn’t the point of the day. We had fun with our friends and sharpened up our Quidditch skills; that’s what mattered. Pansy of course didn’t play. She stood on the ground, cheering our team (well Draco) on. That girl really annoys me.
Cissy made us ham barbeque sandwiches, which we all ate up greedily. After our late lunch, everyone started to dispense out of the house and head back to their homes. It really wasn’t a hyped up thing, since we would all see each other in a couple days at Hogwarts. However, I did do a happy dance when a certain Parkinson left.
A/N: SO?????????? Whatcha all think? I bet you all were in shock when you found out a certain Mr. Malfoy has a crush on Ginny. Please leave a review!!!!!!!
The train lurched forward and thus began the journey to Hogwarts. Cissy and Lucius took us to King’s Cross, and Amy and Steve met us there as well to see us off. Draco, Blaise, and I got a compartment to ourselves, but we knew the rest of our friends would stop by and say hi. I couldn’t believe that this was my fifth year already. It seemed only yesterday that I was hugging my dad as he wished me luck for my first year. Then after he got the letter to say what house I was sorted into, I received a Howler that told me how disappointed in me he was and would have disowned me on the stop if it wasn’t for Mum. That was how I became friends with Draco and Blaise. After I ran to the common room crying, they came in and tried to comfort me. When I had calmed down, we started talking and since then we have been inseparable.
“So, who do you think the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher will be?” Draco asked, ripping me from my thoughts.
“Dunno, what do you think Rex?” Blaise said.
“I have no idea. But I do wish that we wouldn’t have a new one every year. It gets irritating.” Draco scoffed.
“It’s not irritating; it’s fun. The only reason you find it irritating is because you are upset that Lupin left.”
“Yep; he was an awesome teacher.” I retorted.
“And the fact that he is your godfather.” Blaise noted.
“Yes, I guess that’s another reason as well.” The compartment door opened and we turned to see Harry standing there.
“Oh look, it’s the Sytherin brats.” he sneered.
“And here is the Boy-Who-Lived-To-Be-A-Pain-In-My-Arse.” Draco retorted. I giggled and Harry shot me a look.
“So Potter, why in the hell are you contaminating our lovely compartment? There must be a reason or else you wouldn’t be here.” Blaise asked.
“I have a letter for Rex.” he said plainly.
“From who?” I asked.
“You can keep it; I don’t want anything from that wonderful father of mine.” He rolled his eyes.
“Just take it so I don’t have to keep smelling this grotesque odor that’s coming off the three of you.” I rolled my eyes at him as I stood up and took the letter from him.
“Now leave.” I commanded.
“Gladly.” he said and the door slammed shut. I sat back down and opened the letter.
Now that you are fifteen, there as some things you should have that your mother left for you. Enclosed is her necklace her mother gave to her at your age. It’s a family heirloom that is passed from mother to daughter. Take good care of it.
Have a good year at Hogwarts.
I tossed the letter aside and looked inside the envelope to see the necklace. A pretty little angel was on a silver chain. “A child always lives in her mother’s heart” was engraved on the back. I quickly put it around my neck and I looked over at the boys, beaming.
“Well, that was nice of Sirius.” Blaise said.
“My mother is the only reason he’s nice to me.” I stated.
“He sounded like a father in this letter. ‘Have a good year at Hogwarts’? That doesn’t sound like the Sirius Black we’ve heard so much about.” Draco said.
“Well, like I said; he’s only nice to me when it comes to Mum. If it wasn’t the promise he made her, I probably would’ve been living on the streets when I was twelve.”
“You wouldn’t have been living on the streets. You would be living with either D or me.” Blaise replied.
“Well yeah, but the fact remains that he would’ve kicked me out.”
“Rex, I don’t think you’re giving him enough credit. You’re his daughter; he loves you.” Draco said.
“Correction: he used to love me; Harry as well. But then I didn’t get into Gryffindor. That’s when I started being hated.”
“It’s been five years!” he exclaimed.
“You mean he hasn’t gotten over it?”
“No and I don’t think he ever will. He hated his birth family and all they stood for, and as a result, he didn’t get sorted into Sytherin. They turned his backs on him. He got sick of it after a few years and ran away to live with James. I was sorted into Sytherin, and because that reminds Dad of his family, he hates me. He even said that I am going to turn into Bellatrix LeStrange.”
“Wait… Bella is my aunt! How do you know her?” Draco asked.
“Bella and her sister Narcissa are my dad’s cousins. HOLY CRAP!!!!” I exclaimed.
“WE’RE COUSINS!” Draco yelled. We stared at each other wide-eyed and then Blaise started laughing hysterically.
“Wow, you guys are slow. It took you five years to figure that out! I’ve known since second year!”
“Wait, how did you know?” I asked, completely confused.
“There was one conversation we were having and it somehow got turned into talking about our family trees. Once you two started going off, I made the connection and figured it out.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Draco asked, annoyed. Blaise started laughing again.
“I wanted to see how long it would take you two to figure it out. But I didn’t plan it would take you…three years!” He was struggling to breathe and tears were falling down his cheeks. That’s how hard he was laughing.
Draco wrote a letter to his parents asking if he knew that I was his cousin, and if they did, why they didn’t say anything before. The rest of the train ride was spent talking and playing Exploding Snap as friends came and saw us. Draco decided to introduce me as his cousin with every group that came in. ‘This is my cousin, Rex.’ or ‘Rex is my cousin, did you know that?’ It was extremely annoying, but awesome at the same time. Even though I didn’t know before, I’ve had family all along that loves me. That’s pretty amazing.
We were riding in a carriage with Pansy (kill me, please) and the monkey boys (Crabbe and Goyle). Why we associate with those three is a mystery to me. I hate Pansy with a passion, but I can’t seem to get away from her. I can tolerate the boys, but they’re dumb as bricks. I’m even surprised they can write their own names; no, I’m surprised they can even write. Draco was still hyped on the fact that we were related and started going into this really long explanation as to how. Pansy pretended to be interested, but I could see how she was staring at him hungrily. She wanted to jump across the seat and kiss him senseless. I knew that’s what she was thinking because that’s the same thing that was running through my mind. I just wanted to make out with Blaise right there. He was looking at me intensely and shivers went down my spine. He licked his lips, and I almost lost everything that was holding me back.
Crabbe and Goyle however, did not understand a single word that was coming out of Draco’s mouth. They couldn’t make the connection between our families, which annoyed Draco to no end. They would say it didn’t make any sense, he would groan at them, and tell the whole story over again. This went on for fifteen minutes before Dray gave up.
“Argh, you both are idiots! All you need to know is that Rex and I are cousins!”
We sat down at the Sytherin table and watched all the first years get sorted. Then Dumbledore gave his annual speech (basically introducing the new Defense teacher who was Dolores Umbridge), and we were just about to tuck in to the feast, when a plump, older woman (apparently Umbridge) stood up in front of us and started talking.
“Thank you, Professor Dumbledore, for those kind words of welcome. The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance....."
Blah Blah Blah! I was bored once she stood up, but I figured I would pay attention. I thought it was going to be short-lived, but I was wrong. After every word, I was becoming more and more nauseated. How could Dumbledore let the ministry do this? How could the ministry itself do this?
I heard Draco slightly snoring beside me and I jabbed him with my elbow and he woke with a start. “What the hell?” he whispered. I didn’t say anything, but I pointed up to the old bat that was talking. He rolled his eyes but started to pay attention again.
“Thank you, Professor.” Dumbledore said as cheerful as he could. “Let’s get on with the feast.”
“What do you think Umbridge’s speech meant?” Draco asked after dinner. We were in the common room, sitting by the fire. Blaise had his arm around the back of the couch and he was playing with the ends of my hair subconsciously. I leaned my head onto his shoulder and took in his scent.
“Didn’t you pay attention?” I asked.
“Somewhat. I was sleeping until I was rudely awakened; thank you very much.”
“You’re welcome!” I sang. “But seriously, didn’t you guys catch on?”
“No.” they both replied. I sighed.
“Dolores Umbridge works for the Ministry. Why would a Ministry official take up a teaching post?”
“The Ministry is taking over Hogwarts.” Blaise said in awe.
A/N: Hello all! I know it’s sad, but I did not realize that I made Draco and Rex cousins until I was writing this chapter and talking about Bellatrix. Maybe you guys figured it before I did. xD I do not own the speech given by Umbridge; I just took parts of it from the Order of the Phoenix pg. 212 which of course belongs to the wonderfully talented J.K. Rowling. Please review!!
A/N: I AM SOOOO SORRY YOU GUYS!! I know I haven’t updated in over a month, but school has just been weighing down on me and I haven’t been able to write. I hope you guys enjoy this chapter. I honestly don’t think it’s that great; but it’s your opinion that matters to me! Anyway, let’s get on with the chapter!
The first couple weeks of term went by with a lot of homework and tedious studying. Blaise, Draco, and I hardly saw each other; mostly just at meals. Defense was a complete disaster. Umbridge wouldn’t let us use any magic; all we did was take notes from a stupid Ministry-approved textbook. I had gotten a detention from speaking out in class; which I was just coming back from. That woman is a monster! She told me that I would be writing lines with one of her special quills and it turns out those contraptions write in the blood of the writer! So now I have this scar on my hand that says, ‘I will respect my superiors.’ I’m not scared of that old hag, and it is assured that I will be getting more detentions, but the thing I’m most afraid of is Draco and Blaise asking questions. They’ll completely freak.
This was the conversation I was having with myself as I was walking to the Great Hall for dinner. I spotted my boys sitting at our usual spots at the table and approached them. I kissed Blaise on the cheek and shoved Draco with my hip as I sat in between them. “How was your detention?” Draco asked.
“It was fine. All I had to do was write lines.”
“Wow,” Blaise said. “You’ll never misbehave again.” Draco laughed into his pumpkin juice. The food appeared and I spooned myself some mashed potatoes. Then disaster struck.
“What the hell happened to your hand?!” Blaise exclaimed. Draco glanced over and widened his eyes. I took a deep breath as Blaise gently held my hand and tried to decipher the scar. “I…will…respect….my…superiors.” he read slowly. He looked at me and then back at my hand. “Umbridge did this to you?! What, did she carve this into your hand?”
“Then how did this happen?!” he almost yelled. People glanced over at us and I shushed him.
“She has this quill that writes in blood. It just so happened to be mine.” The boys looked like they could kill. Blaise got up and stormed off out of the Great Hall. I started to go after him, but Dray stopped me.
“Just let him be. You know his temper; he needs to cool down.” I nodded and we finished our dinner and then made our way to the common room.
The next morning, I got dressed and went down to the Great Hall for breakfast. As usual, Draco was there and was eating toast. I sat down next to him and that’s when I noticed something was not right. “Blaise didn’t come back last night.” he whispered.
“What?!” I exclaimed. “Where could he have gone?!”
“I have no clue. I don’t keep track of him twenty-four seven.” Draco remarked.
“Stop being a smart arse! Your best friend is missing!”
“He’s not missing; he’s just not here.” I groaned and got up from the table. “Where are you going?”
“To find Blaise!”
I went through the entire castle about three times, but I still couldn’t find him. I even checked outside. I had missed Potions (Snape’s going to have my arse), and Charms was already half over so I didn’t see a point in going. I was in the seventh floor corridor and all I was thinking about was how I needed to find Blaise and then this door appeared in front of me. I jumped back in shock and stared as it formed itself. I hesitantly opened it and saw a bed, a table, and a couch. There was someone slumped onto the couch, but I couldn’t make out who it was.
“Hello?” I whispered. The figure’s head snapped up and these bright blue eyes stared at me in disbelief.
“Rex? How did you find me in here?” My eyes started to water and I ran into Blaise’s arms.
“You didn’t come back. I was so worried.” He ran a hand through my hair and kissed my cheek.
“I’m sorry. I was just so angry at the thought that the stupid hag hurt you. I had to get away for a bit.”
“You left me.” He tightened his hold of me.
“I could never leave you, baby. You’re too important.” I smiled and we sat there holding each other for what seemed like a millennium.
It was lunch when we made it back into civilization. We walked straight to our table and sat down next to Dray. “So what did I miss in Potions and Charms?” I asked.
“We didn’t really do anything in Potions because Umbridge was in there questioning Snape. And do we ever do anything in Flitwick’s class?” I laughed and noticed how he gave Blaise the dirtiest look he could muster. “So, you didn’t come back.”
“Yeah, sorry about that D. I just had to get away from people for a while.” He snorted.
“I was peeved too, you know! But you didn’t see me walk out on my best friend, did you?” Blaise sighed.
“Look, I said I was sorry. I’ve always distanced myself when I get angry; you know that!”
“Well, you’ve never been out all night and caused everybody to worry about you!”
“Okay, mother; I’ll make sure you know where I am at all times from now on!”
“Stop it! Just stop! I hate when you two do this; fight over me!” I exclaimed.
“We’re not fighting over you…” Dray started.
“Yes, yes you are! I had the detention with Umbridge which caused Blaise to run off and you to get mad! Just stop! Please!” Blaise sighed and pulled me close. I broke away from him and stared at my best friends. “Draco, Blaise is sorry that he ran off. Blaise, Dray was upset and you have to see his point of view. So now you can kiss and make up.”
They both laughed at my joke and clapped each other on the back. “Alright, what’s after lunch?” I asked.
“We have Transfiguration with the Ravenclaws and then a free period.” Dray replied.
“Okay, cool. Let’s eat; I’m starved!!”
The rest of the day went by as normal. We went to McGonagall’s class and were shown up by the Ravenclaws. Instead of spending our free period doing homework like normal students, we grabbed our brooms and went flying at the Quidditch pitch. Our first match wasn’t for a month and we hadn’t had any practices (which is completely crazy. Stupid Flint), so we decided to take the initiative and do some drills by ourselves. After we spent about an hour on the pitch, we headed back to the castle to change.
I spent most of my nights in the boys’ dormitory talking to the boys. Sometimes I even fall asleep in there. That night was no different. I was lying in Blaise’s bed while we talked about our childhood and I fell asleep in his arms.
I ran downstairs screaming “Merry Christmas!” and found the Christmas tree surrounded by presents. I was so excited to find mine and open them, but like a good friend, I waited for Blaise and Draco to come bounding down the stairs. They came up behind me and their faces expressed pure shock.
“Wow!” Dray exclaimed.
“I know! Look at all these presents!” Blaise said.
Amy and Steve came downstairs soon after and we three began looking through the stacks to find our own presents. I had at least ten, Dray had about the same amount, and Blaise had fifteen (considering this was his house and his parents). We ripped through the wrapping paper and were in awe at all of the gifts. I looked back towards the tree and found another small gift that was still wrapped. I went toward it and noticed it was addressed to me.
I quickly opened it and saw a note. It read:
Rex, my baby girl,
I love you so much and I wish I could be there with you this Christmas. I hope this little gift reminds you that I will always be with you. Maybe not physically, but I am in your heart. You are such a strong, beautiful young woman and I can’t wait until the time comes when I can see you again. Until then, have fun with your life and reach for the stars.
I opened the gift and saw it was a picture of me and my mum when we went to the Muggle amusement park; I was about eight years old. I had cotton candy all over my face and a balloon in my hand. I smiled and kissed her face. “I love you too, Momma.” I whispered.
A/N: So, what do you think? Rex has a good dream for once! Please review!!
“The Halloween Ball will be open to all students third year and up. You do not need a date, however to attend, you must wear a costume.” the Head Girl, Bridget, said.
“This is the first year we are doing this, so it’s a trial run. If this does not work out the way we hope or there is too much rule-breaking during this time, we will not have another Halloween Ball.” Vincent, the Head Boy, added.
We were sitting in the common room talking about the ball. I was also trying to talk Draco into asking Ginny to the dance. He kept saying she would never say yes.
“Oh Dray, come off it. Just be gentle and caring and tell her how you really feel. She’ll definitely say yes.”
“What about her bloody Gryffindor friends?” Blaise rolled his eyes.
“D, listen, if you want the girl; go after her. Otherwise, she’ll end up with someone else and you’ll never have your chance.” Draco scoffed.
“Like you would know.”
“Actually, I do. I’m the one who got what I wanted.” I started laughing.
“Okay, boys; I’ll let you talk this over. I’m going to head to the library to finish up an assignment. See you later.”
I was on my way to the library when I ran into a certain redhead. “Hi Ginny!” She gave me a weird look and kept on walking. “Wait!” I called. She turned around.
“What do you have to say that is so important? If it’s an insult, I’m not in the mood.”
“Why would I insult you?” I asked, hurt. “Has Harry gotten to you too? Just because I’m in Slytherin doesn’t mean I am rude and evil!”
I huffed and started to walk away when I heard Ginny apologize in a small voice. I turned back around and saw her staring at the floor. “Hey, it’s okay. I don’t blame you. We haven’t properly spoken before.” She smiled slightly.
“Can- Can we be friends?” I smiled.
“Yeah, of course we can.”
“So where are you headed?”
“Nowhere really. I told Draco and Blaise that I had to go to the library because I didn’t want to hear them bicker.”
Ginny nodded slowly. “I honestly don’t know how you are friends with them.” I giggled.
“I get that a lot, but they really are the nicest guys ever. They’re always there for me. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have those two.” She sighed.
“I guess if you really get to know someone, they are what they are perceived to be.”
“Exactly. Hey, if I tell you something, will you promise not to tell a soul?”
“Well, I think Draco is going to ask you to the dance.”
I laughed. “Yeah, he’s had a crush on you for a while now, and Blaise and I are trying to talk him into asking you.”
“Why would Malfoy have a crush on me? Aren’t I just a blood traitor to him?” I scoffed.
“No, he really likes you. He thinks you’re smart, beautiful, and funny.”
Ginny looked astounded. “You want to know something?” she asked. I nodded. “I think I have a crush on him too. What am I going to do? Ron, Fred, George, and Harry will completely freak!”
“Well, do you like Draco?”
“If you got to know him properly and began to like him even more, would you want a relationship with him?” She bit her lip.
“But the boys…” “
Forget about them for a second and answer my question. Would you want a relationship with him?” She sighed.
“Yes, if I ended up really liking him.”
I nodded. “Then that’s all you have to worry about. Think about the boys later and just get your man!”
She laughed. “How do you know he’ll ask me?”
I smirked. “Well, for one I’m his best friend; he tells me things. And two, I’m very persuasive.”
I ran into the common room and saw the guys sitting in the same place I left them. “I know something you don’t know!” I sang at Draco. He looked at me in confusion and cocked his head to the side.
“What is it?” I plopped down on the couch next to Blaise and he wrapped his arms around me.
“Haha, I’m not telling you!”
“Because it’s a secret!!!” He rolled his eyes at me and leaned his head back on the couch. “So are you going to ask Ginny?” He closed his eyes and sighed.
“Yes.” I squealed happily. He looked at me and started laughing. “You really are excited about this aren’t you?”
I nodded vigorously and smiled. Blaise chuckled and whispered in my ear, “You talked to her, didn’t you?”
He laughed. “Come on, Rex. I know you; just admit it.” I sighed and nodded. He laughed even harder and Draco looked over at us.
“What are you two talking about?”
“Nothing!” we said in unison. He looked us suspiciously but didn’t say anything.
A few days past and Draco hadn’t asked Ginny yet. I was getting really annoyed at him. “Why don’t you just ask her?!” I exclaimed at lunch. “You see her right before we go to Herbology, why don’t you just ask her then?” He sighed.
“Fine; I might as well seeing as you won’t leave me alone until I do.” I smiled widely at him and he just rolled his eyes.
We were walking out of the Great Hall when I shoved him towards Ginny. “Now is your chance.” He took a deep breath and walked up to her. I scooted a little closer so I could hear what was being said.
“Hi Ginny.” Dray said nervously.
“Hi Mal-Draco.” He took a deep breath.
“Would you like to go to the Halloween Ball with me?” Ginny’s eyes lit up and she smiled.
“Of course I will.”
Draco smiled just as widely and let out a deep breath. “Okay, that’s awesome. I’ll see you around I guess.” She nodded and walked away.
Dray came running over to me and gave me a big hug. “She said yes!” he exclaimed. I laughed.
“I told you! Now let go of me before you crush all my bones to tiny little pieces.” He let go and we walked to Herbology.
Later that night, Blaise and I were sitting by the fire in the common room. “I never thought he would actually ask her.” I laughed.
“I don’t think he would have if I wasn’t so pushy.”
“Well it’s a good thing you are then. Now we don’t have to hear Draco complain about how Ginny won’t give him the time of day.”
“Thank Merlin for that.”
We sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes before Blaise spoke up. “You know, I was trying to think of an extravagant way of asking you this, but I can’t wait any longer. Will you go to the ball with me?”
I smiled and snuggled up closer to him. “You bet I will!” He kissed the top of my head and we continued to stare into the fire.
A/N: Chapter completed! So, what did you think? I absolutely love the way I developed Rex’s character! What do you think of her and Ginny’s new found friendship? How about the fact that she told Ginny that Draco liked her? Please leave a review!! I love all my fabulous readers!!
I was waiting in the Entrance Hall for Ginny. We were going into Hogsmeade to buy our costumes for the ball. Blaise and Draco had gone down ten minutes ago. They were fighting over who would have the best costume.
I finally saw Ginny coming down the Grand Staircase. “Sorry I’m late. I had a hard time getting away from Ron. He would not leave me alone about me going to the ball with Draco.”
“Wait, you told him?!” She nodded.
“Yeah; Neville came up and asked me but I said I already had a date. Ron and Harry were sitting there when this all happened and they asked who it was.”
“How did they react?!”
“Well, Harry didn’t say anything really. Ron went on this rant about how wrong Draco is for me and that he’s a prat. I retorted that if you were friends with him, he can’t be that bad. That shut him up and I was able to leave.”
I blew out a breath. “Wow, I honestly thought you’d never tell them.” She shook her head.
“Neither did I.”
We made our way into Hogsmeade and into the dress shop that holds Halloween costumes. Ginny was contemplating what costume to get, but I already had one in mind. I immediately dragged her over to the Muggle section and within a couple minutes, I found my costume. It was a light blue short skirted kimono with a black dragon on the front. A black belt went around the midsection. There was also a cape attached to it which was the same color as the kimono.
“Alright, now that I have my costume, let’s find yours.” Ginny nodded and we went searching.
Everything I picked out, Ginny would say no to. I came across a woodsman’s (well woods woman’s) costume and held it up to her. It was a dark green short-skirted tunic with a brown belt attached and it came with light green stockings and a pointed hat with a feather in it. The bag said it was a Peter Pan costume; whoever that guy is.
“What about this?” She came over and took it from me.
“Oh, Peter Pan! I remember Hermione telling me this story!”
“Who’s Peter Pan?” I asked.
“Well, he was this boy who lived in this far away land called Neverland. He lived there having adventures and fought off his enemy Captain Hook. He then went to London and found these three children and took them to Neverland with him.”
“Why was he in Neverland to begin with?”
“Well he didn’t want to grow up. You never grow up in Neverland. Hermione has the book; she’ll probably let you borrow it sometime.”
“Do you like the costume?” She considered it for a second and nodded.
“It’s perfect!” I then dragged her over to the shoe department. I picked a pair of black pumps and Ginny found a cute pair of brown over-the-knee boots. We paid for our things and headed back to the castle.
“You should come and hang out with the boys and me.” She bit her lip.
“I don’t know. Hermione wanted to talk to me after I got back.” I shrugged.
“Alright then; see you later.” She nodded and we went our separate ways; Ginny up to the seventh floor and I to the dungeons.
When I stepped foot in the common room, I noticed something wasn’t right. First of all, the room was trashed. The couches were turned over and garbage was littered everywhere. I put my bags down and stepped further into the room. Suddenly, I was tackled to the ground from behind. Fits of laughter began and I groaned.
“I can’t believe you fell for it again!” Draco exclaimed somewhere above me.
“Oh when I get my hands on you…” I couldn’t finish the sentence because Blaise leaned down and kissed me.
“Oh, love; it’s just a prank we like pulling on you.” I sighed.
“You guys are going to get tired of it soon.”
“Nah, I don’t think we will.” he said as he got up off me.
“Hey!” I exclaimed pulling back toward me.
“What?” I reached up to kiss him. He smiled against my lips and deepened the kiss. It ended too soon for my liking considering Draco interrupted by clearing his throat.
“Are you two quite finished?” I rolled my eyes and pushed Blaise off me. He got up and then helped me get to my feet.
“So did you and Ginny have fun shopping?” I nodded.
“Yes we did. We got some amazing costumes.”
“Can I see yours?”
“No. You have to wait until the ball like everybody else.” He tried to pull his best puppy-dog look but I shook my head and grabbed my bags. “I’m not showing you.” I said as I went into the girl’s dorm to put my costume and shoes away.
When I came back into the common room, it was completely cleaned and the boys were sitting on the couch playing Exploding Snap. It seemed that Draco was winning; as usual. I was laughing at them when there was a knock at the portrait door. I opened it and saw Ginny.
“Hey there, what’s up?” She sighed.
“Can I hang with you guys?” I smiled and stepped aside. She walked into the room and look around in awe. Her eyes then fell on Draco and she softly smiled. “Hi Draco.” He looked over and his facial expression was priceless. It was a mixture of disbelief and shock. He finally smiled and held his hand out to her.
She swiftly walked over to him and then he pulled her down on his lap. She seemed completely content and relaxed. I walked over to the couch and Blaise pulled me onto his lap. I glanced over and saw Draco whispering something into Ginny’s ear. I felt a sting at my heart. Our trio was now a quartet. I realized I had to share Draco. I’m not jealous; I love him like a brother (and cousin). But before Ginny came into the picture, I had him all to myself on days like these. I was just able to talk to him whenever and about whatever I wanted. Now I had to be careful. Now I had to share him. Am I selfish? Maybe a little, but that is what makes me a Slytherin. But mostly I think it is out of fear. He has always been there for me. What if, since he’s getting involved with Ginny, he forgets that I’m here too? I can’t be forgotten again.
As if he knew what I was thinking, Blaise hugged me from behind and kissed the nape of my neck. I leaned back and rested my head on his shoulder. The four of us sat there and talked about random things until it was time for Ginny to leave. When she and Draco left the common room, Blaise slid me off him and caressed my cheek.
“I thought you were happy about this.” I sighed.
“I-I am. I just don’t want to be forgotten again.” He sighed and hugged me.
“Don’t worry, love. He won’t forget you.” I shrugged, but then it dawned on me what he called me.
“Did you just call me love?” He smiled.
“Yes.” he said matter-of-factly. Before I could say anything else, Dray came bounding into the common room.
“Damn, am I lucky!” he exclaimed. I smiled. How could I be so selfish? He deserves to be happy.
A/N: Chapter 8 = Finished! Yay!! What did you think? I would love to hear your thoughts on this chapter; especially about the internal battle Rex was having about Ginny being in the group. Please review!!
A week later, my anxiety was intensifying. Draco was disappearing on me. He was spending more and more time with Ginny. He was never in the common room at night anymore and neither I nor Blaise could keep a conversation up with him at meals. He would stare at the Gryffindor table the entire time. It tore me apart; my worst fear was realized.
Blaise knew it was bothering me. He kept trying to comfort me by saying ‘It’s just a phase’ or ’He’ll come around’ or even ‘By the time the ball’s over, he’ll forget all about Ginny.’ The last one was a little harsh, but I have to admit it helped on occasions; only so much though. The damage was already done. I was forgotten by the one person that was always there for me; the one person I could count on. Well, Blaise hadn’t forgotten me. He would always be there considering he was my unofficial boyfriend. We did most things couples did, however he hadn’t asked me properly yet.
Every day, I expected a ‘Hello’ or ‘How are you, Rex?’ from Dray, but it never came. He’d be out of the common room in the early hours of the morning and leave breakfast early to walk with Ginny. After each lesson, he’d bolt out of the room just so he could walk her to her next class. It was like he only had eyes for her and her alone. Yes, I understand he’s a hormonal teenage boy who had just gotten the girl of his dreams, but there were other things going on in the world that he was forgetting.
Now I don’t want you to think I’m some selfish, possessive bitch who doesn’t like seeing my friends hanging out with other people because I’m not. I don’t think this would be bothering me so much if it wasn’t for my past. I was neglected by my father. At Hogwarts, I found friends, Blaise and Draco, who really cared about me and filled some of that emptiness. They were my safe havens so to speak. And now part of it was being ripped away from me; like an evil trick my father was playing on me. He doesn’t like seeing me being happy anyway.
I was sitting in the common room by the fire by myself. Blaise had already gone to bed since it was late, and Draco was off doing who-knows-what with Ginny. I began thinking about the previous week and felt my eyes watering. I tried desperately to hold back my tears, but I soon found myself crying. I faintly heard the portrait open and someone trying to sneak to the dorms undetected. I didn’t want my presence to be known either so I tried to settle down, but that only resulted in me choking the sobs back and making a loud noise.
The person came closer to me, sat themselves on the arm of the couch, and ran a hand through my hair.
“Rex, are you alright?” I shook my head. “Did Blaise do something?” I shook my head again.
Draco tried to hug me, but I stood up and started to walk away. He caught my arm before I got too far away. “What’s wrong?” he asked, clearly concerned. Even his eyes held worry.
“Nothing.” I said firmly ripping my arm from his grasp. I turned from him. “Leave me alone.”
“Rex…” he started.
“Just leave me alone, you prat!” I exclaimed as I ran out of the common room and down the corridor.
“Rex!” Draco called after me, but I didn’t stop. I kept running until fatigue took over and I slumped against a wall. Apparently, he wasn’t too far behind me because he caught up to me within seconds.
“Rex, what is wrong?” I shook my head again, but this time I let him embrace me. “Shh, it’s okay.” he cooed. “I’m here.”
I pushed away from him at that point.
“No you aren’t! You haven’t been here all freaking week! You’ve been off with your lovely Ginny. I’m not saying I’m not happy for you, but you seem to be forgetting the other people in your life!”
Remorse filled his eyes and he tried to reach out for me, but I flinched away. I felt tears trickle down my cheeks again so I turned my head away. Even though I was upset at him, I still didn’t want Draco to see me like this.
“I’m sorry.” he whispered.
I turned back to look at him. I wasn’t expecting an apology from him. I was actually expecting him to get peeved at me and stomp back to the common room leaving me to run after him. He pulled me back into another hug.
“I didn’t even realize. I’m sorry.”
I sighed. “You do know that I am happy for you, right?” I asked as I set my head on his chest. He leaned down to put his chin on the top of my head and nodded.
“I just…I don’t….” I took a deep breath. “It just felt like I was being abandoned again. Forgotten.” He pulled me a little closer to him.
“I would never forget you; let alone abandon you.” I buried my head in his shoulder and cried some more. He rubbed circles on my back and told me soothing words.
“Sorry,” I said when I calmed down. He smiled slightly.
“Don’t worry about it. That’s what I’m here for.”
“I know I wouldn’t be like this if it wasn’t for dear old Dad.” I said the last part with venom in my voice. His expression went from soft to hard.
“You do know that I hate him, right?” I rolled my eyes.
“Well, you aren’t alone. Everybody hates him, except Harry.”
“Even Remus hates him?” I sighed.
“Well, he doesn’t necessarily hate him; just hates how he treats me.”
“That makes two of us.”
He let go of me and we made our way back to the common room. “I never did ask you, but did your parents reply to the letter you sent them on the train?”
He laughed. “Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you about that! Well they did know of our relation. Mother and Sirius are cousins. Father thought it would fun to see how long it took us to figure it out ourselves; sort of like Blaise did.”
I laughed; that was so Lucius. He loved to keep secrets and play mind games on us three.
Before we headed to bed, Draco pulled me into another hug and mumbled his apologies and said he would make it up to me. I said it was okay and that I would hold him to it. He started to walk away when I called to him again.
“I’m not the only one you need to make it up to, you know.” He nodded understandingly and bid me goodnight.
A/N: And there is Chapter 9! I hoped you liked it! Even though Rex thinks Blaise leaves her, and Draco forgets her, she ends up getting them back. I know I made up the story, but I can’t get over how close-knit the trio’s relationship is. Please leave a review! I can’t wait to hear from all of you!
Before I knew it, the Halloween Ball was here. Ginny and I were up in my dorm getting ready. I was doing her hair into a cute bun with some curls hanging down in her face. Her makeup was already done and consisted of green eye shadow and eyeliner. She also had lip gloss and a light pink blush on. She most definitely looked like a woods-girl.
While Ginny was putting on her costume, I did my own hair and makeup. I curled my hair and pinned it up in the back with bobby pins. I then put on blue eye shadow with black eye-liner to match my costume. I couldn’t wait for tonight. I couldn’t wait for Blaise to see me, to have fun, and talk to all my friends. And maybe, Blaise would ask me to be his girlfriend.
When we were both dressed, we decided to head to the Common Room to wait for Draco and Blaise. All the guys of Slytherin were down there either waiting for their dates or talking to their friends. There were no other girls in the room, so I assumed we were the first ones ready.
Arms slipped around my waist and I was pulled against someone. I smiled and turned around to see Blaise dressed up in a red street fighter costume. His eyes seemed to light up when he saw my costume.
“Looking good, Rex!” Draco exclaimed. I laughed.
“You don’t look too bad yourself.” Draco was dressed as a Julius Caesar.
“What about me?” Blaise pouted. I giggled.
“You look good; as always.”
I looked over to Ginny and Dray was whispering something in her ear. She looked over at me and we both started giggling.
“Girls.” Blaise mumbled.
“What was that?”
I laughed and the four of us made our way to the Great Hall.
The Hall was decked out in black and orange. There was a big open dance floor and small tables on the outside. We were quick to grab one and then headed out to the dance floor. The first song was a slow one, so Blaise pulled me close and I laid my head on his exposed chest.
“You know, I never said how beautiful you look.” I smiled.
“I’m surprised you and Dray didn’t get professional Quidditch robes or something.”
“Nah, that’s too typical. We decided to be original.” I giggled.
“Well, you did get that one right. Now every girl is going to be staring at your bare chest.” He chuckled.
“But do you honestly think I will pay any attention to them when I have the prettiest girl here in my arms?”
Just then, Ginny came running over and dragged me away from the dance floor. “What is it?” I asked, knowing something was wrong.
“Harry’s wearing a costume that matches mine!”
“Are you serious?!”
“Yeah, but a guy one.”
“No, really!” I said sarcastically. “I thought he was wearing a dress!” She rolled her eyes.
“What am I going to do?!” I took her hand and went over to where Harry, Weasley, and Granger were standing.
“What the bloody hell are you doing here?” Weasley spat.
“For your information, Weasel, I came to talk to a darling god brother of mine.”
Ginny kept trying to drag me away from them, but I wasn’t moving.
“And what could you possibly have to discuss with me?”
“Oh, I just wanted to say how nice your costume looks. Did you get it for any particular reason?”
“No, but yours makes you look like a sk-” Granger elbowed him in the stomach and he grunted.
“Ginny, what the hell are you wearing?” Weasley practically yelled.
“A dress, what does it look like?”
“It’s too short!”
“Well, Draco seems to like it. Speaking of which, we should probably get back to our dates.” She dragged me away before anything else could be said.
The boys were standing over by the drink table when we found them.
“Rex, can I talk to for a second?” Blaise asked. I nodded and he led me out into the cool night air. He led me to a bench and we sat down on it. “I think we both know how we feel about each other, and we basically are a couple. Would you be my girlfriend?”
I took one of his that were lying on his lap and leaned my head on his shoulder. “Yes.” He kissed my forehead.
“Do you think we should get back in there before Dray drags Ginny into a broom closet? You saw the way he’s been looking at her the entire night.”
He chuckled. “He has self-control.” I scoffed.
“This is Draco Malfoy we are talking about here. He has very little to none whatsoever.” He sighed.
“Yeah, you’re right. I don’t want to see him get killed by Weaselbee or Potty.”
We got up from the bench and walked back to the Great Hall hand in hand.
I saw Gin and Dray on the dance floor and I sighed in relief. Even though Dray is dubbed as the Slytherin Sex God doesn’t mean he’s actually done anything. However, if there’s a girl he really likes, he’s been known to drag her into a broom closet and snog her senseless. Third year, he had a thing for Pansy and that’s what he’d do. There’s nothing wrong with snogging, but with Umbridge around, I didn’t want the two of them to get detention and end up with scars on their hands like mine.
Speaking of the old toad face, she was patrolling the Great Hall to look for students who were breaking her stupid arse rules. She didn’t seem to care about ‘no student should be within eight inches of each other’ since this was a dance. But she was looking for other violation like snogging and improper dress. She seemed to be in detention-giving mode, so I did my best to avoid her while getting back on the dance floor. We went over to the other half of our group and started dancing.
All of a sudden, I felt someone tap on my shoulder and I turned around to see Umbridge standing there in all her glory. “Detention, Miss Black.”
What the hell?!?!?!?!
A/N: Finally, Chapter 10! Sorry for the long update; I had a bit of writer’s block with this one so decided to make it two parts. Please review!!
“What for?” I asked irritably.
“For improper dress.”
I scoffed. “There are people dressed more inappropriately than me!” She narrowed her eyes at me.
“That will be cause for another detention! How dare you disrespect your superior?!”
I clenched my fist ready to hit her, but Blaise loosened my fingers and held my hand. Umbridge looked over to him. “And a detention for you as well, Mr. Zabini. I expect to see both of you in my office at three o’clock tomorrow afternoon.” She gave us a smug look and walked away.
I was fuming. Blaise seemed to pick up on that for he led me off the dance floor and to the table we had gotten. He sat me down in the chair and then sat across from him. I didn’t dare meet his eyes. I was so angry at myself for getting him into trouble as well.
“Rex?” he asked, grabbing my hand and gently rubbing my fingers.
“I’m sorry.” I mumbled, staring at my dress.
“What could you possibly be sorry for?” he asked. I looked into his eyes and was surprised that they held worry.
“I got you into trouble. Now you have to be hurt by that hag.” He smiled slightly and brushed his hand over my cheek.
“It wasn’t your fault. She’s just a bitch.” I blew out a breath which caused him to briefly brush his lips against mine. “It wasn’t your fault.” he repeated. I nodded and looked up to see Ginny and Draco coming over to us.
“We are going to go for a walk outside. Care to join us?” Draco asked. I looked to Blaise and he nodded. We stood up and the four of us went to walk in the cool night air.
The next afternoon, I got ready to meet Blaise in the common room so we could go up to Umbridge’s office for our detention. He was there waiting for me and I couldn’t help to smile. We walked there hand and hand. When we got to her office door, I hesitated so Blaise knocked on the door.
“Come in.” we heard before the door opened. “Sit.” she ordered. Sitting on her desk were parchment and her ‘special’ quills. “You will write, ‘I will respect school policy.’ Off you go.”
I took a deep breath and picked up the quill. Before I started, I looked over to Blaise and he gave me a reassuring smile. I sighed and began to write.
Blaise and I walked out of her office clutching our hands. I was still angry at myself for putting Blaise through this. I know he said it wasn’t my fault, but I was used to that being the case. My mother’s death was my fault, and my dad hating me was my fault. I bit my lip to try to stop myself from crying. The pain was excruciating. I cut my scar even deeper. And Blaise was hurting too. He slipped his arm around my waist. I looked down to see his cut up hand. That was it; the tears flowed and wouldn’t stop. He pulled me to his chest and held me as I cried.
“I’m sorry.” I said into his chest. He rubbed circles on my back and kissed the top of my head.
“It wasn’t your fault.” I backed away and wiped my tears away.
“Right. Let’s go.”
We headed back to the common room where Draco was sitting by the fireplace with Ginny.
“Hey, how was detention?” Draco asked. I rolled my eyes and sat next to Ginny.
“Touché.” Suddenly, an owl flew through the window and landed at my feet. I took the letter from it and smiled when I saw who it was from: Remus.
I haven’t from you yet. How are you? I heard all the nasty things Umbridge has been doing at the school. Harry told your dad who told me. He’s really worried about you, Rex. I know that sounds like a shock to you, but he is. I also heard he gave you your mother’s necklace. I expect you will be getting a letter from him soon. He’s been meaning to write to you.
P.S. I figured you’d want to know this. I asked Dora to go to dinner with me tonight, and she said she’d love to! Oh, I’m kind of nervous. I feel like a teenager again when I asked Thea to be my girlfriend. I’m also nervous about the other thing. I don’t want to hurt her. Anyway, I will let you know how it goes!
I laughed. It was about time Remus realized that he had feelings for Tonks. I excused myself and went up to my dormitory to write him a reply.
I’m glad you finally asked her out! Don’t worry, Tonks won’t care. How could she? You’re the kindest, sweetest, most loveable person ever. Just go on the date. Have a great time and let me know how it goes.
I skipped back down the steps and saw that my friends hadn’t moved from I left them. Blaise was sitting in an armchair so I went over and sat on the arm. He smirked and pulled me down onto his lap. I leaned back into his chest and sighed contently.
“Rex, a letter came for you while you were upstairs.” I reached out and took the letter from Dray.
Oh, my lovely daughter, I miss you terribly. There’s so much of your life that I missed out on, and I am sorry for treating you like I did for the past couple years. Maybe if you come home for Christmas, we can put the past behind us and be as close as we were when you were younger. Harry, the Weasleys, Remus, and Tonks will be here as well. Please come home and spend the holiday with me.
How is Hogwarts? I heard from Harry that the new Defense Against the Dark Arts is atrocious. She hasn’t hurt you, has she? Oh, if she did…… How are you enjoying the present I sent you? The necklace looked beautiful on your mother so I just assume it looks as beautiful on you.
Please think about coming home for Christmas. I love you.
I stared at the letter open-mouthed. “Rex?” Blaise asked in my ear.
I robotically stood up and walked out of the common room into the corridor, dropping the letter as I did so. I shakily walked into an empty classroom and sat at one of the desks.
Why, after all this time, is my dad deciding to make up with me? How can I forgive him for the hell he put me through? Does he honestly expect me to be able to accept him with open arms? I was close to tears when I felt a hand touch my shoulder. I closed my eyes trying to squeeze my tears back in me. I couldn’t let anybody see me cry. I was supposed to be the strong one. I already showed weakness crying in front of Blaise earlier. I wasn’t going to show any more.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to be strong anymore, Rex.” Blaise said softly. I shook my head and he sighed.
He put his arms around my waist and lifted me to my feet. He spun me around and kissed me. It was filled with so much love and passion that I lost myself in it immediately. “What are you going to do?” he asked when he pulled away.
“I don’t know.” I whispered. He kissed my forehead and led me out of the classroom where I saw Draco leaning against the wall across from it.
“I told Ginny I’d meet up with her later.” I bit my lip.
“Oh Dray, I didn’t want…” He shook his head.
“You need me more right now.” I shrugged and started to walk away from them both.
“Rex…” they both said simultaneously. I stopped and turned around to face them.
“Why does he do this? It hurts so much.” Blaise started to walk toward me, but I held my hand up. “Don’t. I mean, he hates me for five straight years, and now he decides to play doting father! Did he actually expect me to forgive him that easily?”
“Rex, maybe he does miss you.” Draco said.
“Oh, so now you’re taking his side? I thought you were my friend!” I exclaimed.
When he just stared at me like a deer in the headlights, I ran from them. I needed to escape. I needed a place I could just be by myself and sort out my thoughts. A door appeared beside me and I smiled a bit; the Room of Requirement was perfect.
“Crap! Come on, let’s go after her!” I said to Draco.
“She needs her space.” he said nonchalantly.
“She’s hurt and confused. She’s trying to be strong but on the inside she’s breaking! Don’t you care about her?” I yelled.
“Of course I do!” he yelled back.
“Well, you’re not acting like you do! So how about I’ll find her and you go back to Ginny! You’d rather be with her anyway!”
“Don’t you dare say that! Rex is my best friend! I want to go find here just as much, but she needs to sort out her feelings on her own! I figure she’ll come to us when she’s ready.”
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Draco’s right. I can’t get mad at him. Rex will come. I patted his back and we went back to the common room.
I sat in the Room of Requirement thinking what I could do about my dad. I decided not to write back to him. No yet, at least. He hurt me too much and I couldn’t forgive him. Writing back to him would make it seem like I would.
I was pretty surprised that Blaise didn’t come and find me, but I was grateful. This was something I needed to figure out on my own. I really didn’t want to go back to the common room yet, but dinner was soon so I made my way down to the Great Hall. Comfort food was what I needed.
A/N: So, what did you think? Did you like it, hate it? Please leave a review!
A/N: OMG! I’m so sorry I haven’t updated! I’ve been busy, and my mom kind of reprimanded me for writing all the time instead of college searching, so to placate her I haven’t been writing as much. Enjoy the chapter!!!
I took only a few steps into the Great Hall when I saw Draco and Blaise sitting there eating. I didn’t really want to face them after running off like I did, so I turned away from the door and began walking back through the Entrance Hall. I felt someone touch my arm and I rolled my eyes.
“Not now, Blaise.”
“I’m not Blaise.” I turned and was taken aback since I was looking into a pair of emerald eyes.
“Harry?” He smiled sheepishly.
“Yeah, I…” he sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Are you apologizing now?! First Dad, now you? Do you two really expect me to forgive you that easily; even after all the crap you put me through for the past four years?!” I yelled. My eyes were brimming with tears, but I refused to let them fall. I wouldn’t look weak in front of Harry.
He sighed. “Rex, I know more than anybody that you’re not going to forgive me easily. But could we at least try? Could I try to prove to you that I’m sorry and try to earn your trust back?”
I bit my lip, the tears becoming harder to keep in. I felt one drip down my cheek and turned my head to wipe it away. Harry stepped in front of me and lifted my head.
“You don’t have to be strong anymore, Rex.” he whispered. I looked into his eyes, searching for some sort of truth and confirmation that he was being serious.
Before I could say anything, I heard a sneer of “Potter!” I rolled my eyes and looked to see Draco and Blaise coming toward us. Blaise immediately saw something was wrong.
“What the hell did you do her, Potter?” he sneered.
“I didn’t do a damn thing, Zabini!” Harry exclaimed.
“Rex, why were you crying?” Draco asked. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I was already overwhelmed, and I didn’t know how much more I could handle.
“Back off, Blaise.” I said in a tired voice. He looked searchingly at me and then nodded. “And Draco, I was crying because I’m going through something really confusing that neither you nor Blaise could possibly understand.”
“Well then help us to.” I shook my head and started to walk away. Again, Harry grabbed my arm and turned me to face him.
“Let’s go for a walk to the lake. We should probably talk.” I nodded and went to go with him, but Blaise held his arm out in front of me.
“She’s not going anywhere with you, Potter.” I scoffed.
“And who says I can’t?! I may be with you, but you don’t own me, Blaise Zabini!” I exclaimed. I pushed past him and went outside with Harry following.
“So I take it you are dating Zabini?” Harry asked as I took a seat on the grass.
“Yeah, since yesterday.” He nodded and sat down next to me. “Why Harry?”
He sighed. “I miss you.”
“Does this have anything to do with my dad apologizing?”
“Yes and no. Yes because he told me he wanted me to; no because I really do miss you and I really am sorry. I was young, and didn’t know any better. I was just following Sirius’s lead because I looked up to him.”
“We used to be best friends.” He chuckled.
“Yeah, I know. I hope we can get back to that.”
“It’ll take a really long time.”
He sighed. “Yeah, I know.”
After Harry and I were done talking, I headed back to my common room. Nobody was in there so I just plopped myself on the couch in front of the fire. It felt so comforting and peaceful. I then I felt someone sit down next to me and wrap their arm around my shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” I sighed as Blaise kissed my forehead.
“It seemed like you didn’t trust me.”
“I trust you, just not Potter.”
“We were just talking. Besides, I can take care of myself.”
“I know you can, but as your boyfriend it is my job to protect you.”
I woke up with a twinge in my neck. Sleeping on the couch was probably not the best idea. I sat up and noticed Blaise was still with me, asleep. I smiled and kissed him quickly on the lips. He stirred and then slowly opened his eyes. He gave me a tired smile. He looked so cute.
“Morning, love.” he said groggily. I smiled and kissed him again. “Mmm, that’s a great way to wake up. You should do it more often.”
I laughed and got up off the couch. “It’s Sunday. What do you want to do?” I asked. Blaise stood up and stretched.
“We can do just about anything,”
“How about studying?” He cringed and backed away from me slightly. I laughed.
“I’m kidding, sweetie. Come on, let’s go get breakfast. I’m starved. I didn’t eat dinner last night.” He agreed and we walked out hand in hand.
Draco was already in the Great Hall when we got there. When we sat down, he smirked. “I saw you guys asleep on the couch. What were you up to last night?” I rolled my eyes.
“We were just talking. Merlin Dray, get your head out of the gutter.”
“What were you talking about?” I ignored his question and scooped some food on my plate. “Oh.” he said. “Have you figured out what you’re going to do?” I shook my head and we ate in silence.
A/N: So, what do you think? Love it/hate it? What about Harry? What do you think Rex should do? Please review!!
A week had past and I hadn’t heard from my dad at all. I decided to give Harry a small second chance so we had been talking more. I was also anxiously awaiting Remus’s letter of how his date went. I knew he wouldn’t write right away because he was still probably getting over the bliss of it.
I was sitting in the common room rubbing my hand, trying to make the pain go away. I had another detention with Umbridge for “disrupting her class.” Whatever. The door opened so I looked up to see Blaise.
“Hey there, beautiful.” he said when he saw me. I smiled.
“Hey Zabini!” He smirked.
“What did you just say?”
“I said, ‘Hey Zabini.’”
He chuckled and came over to the couch.
“I dare you to say it again.”
I giggled. “Hey Zabini.”
At lunch the next day, two owls came with letters for me. One was Remus’s owl, and the other was Roxie which meant my dad wrote to me again. I quickly opened the letter from Remus and smiled as I read the words.
I’m sorry I didn’t write earlier, but the date with Dora was so amazing I couldn’t find the words to describe it for a while. I took her to dinner at her favorite restaurant and we had a fabulous time. We went on our second date two days later, and we scheduled our next date for tomorrow. I feel something I never have felt before. It’s so much more than I felt for Thea. I never thought I’d meet someone who could make me feel this happy. I’m still nervous about hurting her with my condition, and I still can’t get over how Dora doesn’t seem to care about it at all.
I will write again soon. I love you.
I quickly scribbled a reply and sent it off with the owl. I looked at Roxie and she still hadn’t moved. I patted her and gave her a treat, but she still didn’t move. I took the letter hoping she’d go, but I didn’t have that kind of luck. She wasn’t leaving until I wrote a reply. Merlin, why wouldn’t my dad give up?
Blaise and Draco came into the Great Hall laughing and pushing each other around. They sat down on either side of me and Blaise kissed me sweetly.
“Is that Roxie?” Draco asked.
“Yeah, and she won’t leave until I reply to my dad’s letter.” I said, exasperated.
“Then why don’t you read it and find out what he said?”
“It’s going to say the same thing as the last one. Rex, my lovely daughter, please come home for Christmas so we can work things out.’”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“Urgh, Dray, don’t you understand?! If I write back, he’ll think I’ve forgiven him! Besides, I always spend Christmas with you guys.” I stood up from the table and went to grab my things for afternoon classes.
When we came back into the Great Hall for dinner, Roxie was still sitting in the same place on the table. The boys saw this and busted out laughing. “That is one determined bird!” I smiled and went over to pet her. “Forget it, girl. I’m not writing back.” I said to her. She nipped at my finger. “I know he wants me to, but I just can’t write now, okay?” She hooted and ruffled her feathers. I giggled. “You won’t give up, will you?” She hooted again. “Well why don’t you go to the Owlery? I wouldn’t want you to sit on this table forever.” She nipped at my finger again and flew off.
In the dormitory, I lied in bed and couldn’t go to sleep. Curiosity got the best of me and I opened the second letter I had received.
I heard the you and Harry have gotten on better terms this past week. I’m glad to hear it. Well, since you didn’t reply to my previous letter, I will ask again. Would you come home for Christmas this year? I miss having you around. I missed so much of your life and I feel like a horrible person and father. Your mother surely wouldn’t be happy with me. Please darling, I love you and I want what’s best for you, and I think it is best for the both of us if we try to mend our relationship.
I love you with all my heart.
I sighed as I placed the letter back on my bedside table. I just couldn’t wrap around the fact that he took this long to realize his mistake. I mean, if he started this ‘asking for forgiveness’ stuff when he first started treating me horribly then I would accept his apology, but it had been four years. And what he said about Mom, I couldn’t quite understand either. He hasn’t really talked about her since she died. I fell asleep with these thoughts floating in my head.
I was in a meadow. It definitely seemed familiar, but I had never been there before. I looked around me and the other things I saw were flowers and an oak tree. “Alexa,” a voice said. I turned around to see my mom standing there with an angelic glow around her.
“Momma!” I exclaimed as I ran to give her a hug.
“Oh my baby girl; look how much you’ve grown. You are so beautiful.” I cried on her shoulder.
“I miss you, Momma.” She hugged me tighter.
“I miss you too.”
“Darling,” she said after a while. “I’ve been watching over you and your father all of these years, and I can say I despise the way he has been treating you. However, I don’t despise him. I love your father with all my heart, even here in the beyond. I know he thinks about us every day. Why won’t you give him a chance?”
I sighed. “I just can’t. He’s treated me so horribly since you died, it’s hard to forgive.”
She sighed. “I’m not saying to forgive him right away; I’d never suggest that. It will take him a long time to gain my forgiveness when I see him again. However, I am saying to give him the chance he’s been asking you for. He truly does love you, but he just finds it extremely hard to express it sometimes. You know, it took him eight months to tell me he loved me. And we were best friends before we dated; like you and Blaise.”
“You know about Blaise?” She smiled.
“I do watch over you every day.”
“So you know about Dray as well?”
“Yes, and I must say they are the best friends I could ever wish you to have. They have taken such great care of you.” I sniffled as my eyes watered.
“Yeah, they have. I love them so much.”
Mom smiled at me again. She looked behind her and nodded at something. “Alright sweetie, I have to go now. Please consider what I said about your father and remember, I love you and I will be with you every single day even if you don’t know it.” Tears fell from my eyes.
“Momma, please don’t go.”
She kissed my forehead. “I have to baby girl. I love you.”
I opened my eyes to the dormitory. I smiled. I got to see my mom again, she loves Blaise and Dray, and she wants me to…give Dad a chance. I was split between doing what she wanted, and my own thoughts. I still had a lot to think about.
A/N: What did you guys think of this chapter? I’m sorry there wasn’t much happening, but I felt like I had to include more of Rex’s internal conflict which led me to writing her dream where Roxanne comes to her. What did you think of that, by the way? It was just a quick idea that popped into my head. And Remus, I love the way I developed his character. He sounds like a schoolboy smitten by a girl. Yay! Well please review I would really really appreciate it!! Thanks!!
I met Harry after morning classes and walked down to the Great Hall with him. “I had a dream last night. My mom came to me and told me to give Dad another chance.” I said.
And that’s exactly what I did. I hung out with Draco and Blaise like I normally did and never brought up my dad. Harry and I began to hang out more as well, and I had gotten to know Ron and Hermione more as well. Hermione was still an insufferable know-it-all, but she was a really good friend. Even though Ron and her bickered to no end, she stood by him and Harry through thick and thin. Those three reminded me of my friendship with Dray and Blaise. We were like foils to each other; the Gryffindor Golden Trio and the Slytherin Devils. Haha, I like that.
It wasn’t until I got another letter that I thought about my dad again. Although it wasn’t from him, it was from Remus. I was surprised it was from him because he usually left me alone when it came to daddy issues.
Darling, your father’s a wreck. I haven’t seen him like this since he discovered Harry had to be taken from the house in Godric’s Hollow to the Dursleys’. He misses you, sweetheart. He’s been drinking himself into unconsciousness, and talking about he regrets everything that he’s done in the past four years. He hasn’t stopped crying how sorry he is for killing your mother. And we both know it wasn’t his fault. I know you don’t really want to talk to him right now, but write to him. Don’t do this just for me though, do this for your mom.
She came to me in a dream last night telling me that she talked to you in a dream, but she knows you won’t do anything. She told me to give you that extra push you needed, and this is that push.
Think about it. I love you.
After reading, I broke into tears. Mama went to Remus as well? Daddy’s drinking and blaming himself for Mama’s death? I ran from my dormitory and into the common room to try and find Blaise. He wasn’t there, so I ran to the Great Hall where dinner had just started. I saw him talking animatedly with Draco and Pansy. Why Ginny wasn’t over there, I didn’t know.
I quickly walked over, but not too quick to draw attention to myself. My eyes were red and I was still fighting tears when I sat down. Blaise put an arm around my waist, kissed my forehead, and went back to talking. Draco smiled at me and I gave a weak smile back. I stared at my plate, trying so hard to keep my tears at bay.
“What’s wrong with her?” Pansy asked.
“Nothing.” Draco answered.
“I don’t know Dray. I’ve never seen Alexa with an empty plate.”
“Maybe she’s just not hungry. Rex, is everything okay?” I didn’t answer him. “See Pansy, she’s fine.”
I glared at my plate then whipped my gaze up to look at Draco. “It’s great to know I have friends that actually care about me! I am on the freaking brink of tears and you deduce that I’m not hungry! And you!!” I exclaimed as I looked at Blaise. “I don’t even get a freaking hello! You just put your arm around me and show that I’m yours but you don’t even freaking talk to me! What the heck?! I’m especially glad to know that my boyfriend cares about and loves me!”
I got up from the bench and ran out of the Great Hall, not caring about the attention I was being given for my little scene.
“What the heck was that all about?” I asked.
Draco shrugged, but something caught his eye. He reached across me and picked up a piece of parchment. As he read, his eyes widened.
“This would explain it.” I took the parchment from him and my heart went out to Rex. I honestly felt like crying.
“We have to find her.” And not even an instant later, Draco and I were heading out of the Great Hall.
I couldn’t believe it! The two people I thought would notice something was wrong didn’t even acknowledge me. Oh well, at least I am safe in a place where they’d never find me…
I ran around the whole damn castle and still couldn’t find Rex. That girl really knows how to hide. She wasn’t even in the Room of Requirement!
“Where in the hell is she?” I exclaimed as I was pacing in the Slytherin common room.
“I don’t know, B.” Draco replied.
“We need to find her!” I sank down on the couch and put my head in my hands. “We need to find her.” I said again.
“We will Blaise. And you know, Rex will end up coming to us.”
“Not this time! She’s super mad at us and probably herself for ignoring her dad. And that dream? Did she tell you she had it?” Draco shook his head. I slammed my fist on the couch.
I couldn’t take it anymore sitting on the cold ground alone. I wanted to believe that Dray and Blaise were still looking for me, but I knew they probably gave up after searching the castle. They probably didn’t even think to look outside. I stood up and brushed the dirt off my pants. I started walking back to the common room when I heard a noise of a branch cracking under someone’s foot.
“Well hello there, Alexa. You’re alone I see.” I froze. The person came up to me and it was then I could see their face.
A/N: I’m back!!! I am so sorry I haven’t updated! I’ve been uber uber busy and have had major writer’s block. But I know that isn’t an excuse, but please forgive me! I’m also sorry if the POV change was confusing, but I wanted to capture what Blaise was feeling. And why do you think Harry’s outside? What do you think he wants? Please review!
“Hey Harry.” I said sadly.
“Aww, is poor little Alexa sad?” he asked mockingly.
“What is your problem?” He walked in a circle around me.
“Oh, nothing; except for the fact that I got a letter from Sirius explaining how he’s so depressed that his daughter won’t talk to him.”
“No, I don’t want to hear it. You’re making him drink and blame himself for everything. He could die. You could kill him!!”
I started to tear up. “No… I’d never do that!”
“You’ve already killed your mother! What would stop you from killing your father?!”
I was shocked. Why was Harry saying all this? I thought he wanted to get back to how it was when we were friends. I thought he would help me get through this.
“Why are you saying all of this?” I asked with tears streaming down my face.
“Well, I’m definitely not going to let my godfather die, so I figured I’d deal with the problem that is leading him to that.” He drew his wand and pointed it at me.
“I’d put that wand down if I were you, Potter!” I turned around and saw both Blaise and Draco standing there with their wands out. I ran to Blaise and he caught me up in his arms. I started to cry into his chest.
“Potter, did you hear me?” Draco asked again, threateningly.
“Yeah, I heard you Malfoy. That doesn’t mean I’m going to listen.” Harry fired a spell, but Dray blocked it. They started to duel.
I was still crying as Blaise picked me up and walked us over to safety, where we wouldn’t risk getting in the crossfire of the fight.
“Blaise…” I said through my sobs.
“I’m here, love. I’m here.” He sat us down in the grass and started to pull away, but my grasp got tighter.
“Don’t leave me.” He kissed my forehead.
“Never, but I have to go pull Draco away from the duel. He’ll end up getting hurt.” I nodded and let him get up and run over. I saw him fire a few spells, most likely protective ones, and pull Dray away. He was still screaming at Harry.
The two walked over and as soon as Dray saw me, all the anger dissipated and he crouched down to hug me. I clung to him and cried into his chest. He picked me up from the ground and then Blaise wrapped his arms around me as well.
“Come on,” Blaise whispered. “Let’s get you inside. It’s freezing out here.”
The boys had to help me all the way to the common room, and then they sat me on the couch. Draco said he’d go to the kitchens and get some food as Blaise sat beside me and cradled me in his arms. I continued to cry as he whispered soothing words and rubbed my back. I truly felt worthless. I was killing my dad. I was going to be an orphan.
“Rex, talk to me.” I tried to get words out, but with how much I was crying, I couldn’t speak. “Please baby.” I sat up and looked at him.
“How do you still love me?” I asked. He cupped my face in his hands and used his thumb to wipe away my tears.
“I will always love you. Nothing could change that.”
“My dad’s dying because of me. I’m killing him; just like how I killed my mum.” He brought me into a hug and laid his chin on the top of my head.
“No, Rex. You’re not killing anyone.”
“I didn’t write him. He’s upset and drinking. All I was trying to do was sort out my feelings, and in the process I’ve sentenced him to death!”
“Baby, it’s nothing like that. This can all be fixed.”
“I’m worthless. I’m completely worthless. I might as well jump off the Astronomy Tower. No one will miss me.” He pushed me away and grasped my upper arms.
“Alexa Roxanne Black,” he said in a serious tone. “Do not even say that. Don’t even think that. You are not worthless. You are the most intelligent, caring, beautiful person in the world. You are special and I absolutely love and cherish you.”
My eyes welled up with tears and I attacked him with another hug. He pulled me in a laying position on the couch and wrapped his arms around me.
“Sleep baby, you’ll feel better when you wake up. Then we can sort this all out.” He didn’t even have to say so.
I watched my angel sleep. Her chest was rising and falling and she looked so peaceful. How could she even think that she was worthless? I looked up as I heard the door to the common room open. Draco came in with a bag of food.
“She’s asleep.” I whispered. He nodded and sat on the floor next to the couch.
“I wonder what happened.” he said.
“She thinks she’s killing Sirius.” I replied.
“Why would she think that?”
“I have no idea. Potter probably said something to her.”
“He needs to pitch himself off the Astronomy Tower.”
“D, don’t even say that.” I said through gritted teeth.
“Why? He should.”
I sighed. “Rex said she should do the same after she said she was worthless.” His eyes widened.
“She didn’t!” I nodded.
“She also said no one would miss her.”
“We would! I honestly don’t know how I’d get through life without her! She’s my best friend!”
“I know; I wouldn’t manage either.”
For the next few days, the boys never let me out of their sight. When we had Astronomy at night on the tower, they kept even closer watch on me and never let me leave their sight. It was like they were making sure I wasn’t going to jump off.
I wrote a letter to my dad saying that I was sorry for all the grief I put him through. I told him I was trying to sort out my feelings and that Mum came to me in a dream telling me to give him another chance. I also said I would like to come home for Christmas and spend some time with him. I hadn’t received a reply yet, though.
I was sitting in the Common Room by myself (which is a big shock considering I haven’t been left alone in days) doing my Transfiguration essay when I heard crackling in the fireplace. Curious, I walked over and saw my dad’s face.
“Hi Dad.” I said. He looked at me and smiled.
“Hello sweetie. How are you?”
“I’m okay. This is the first time I’ve been left alone in ages since Draco and Blaise decided they weren’t going to leave my sight after Harry tried to attack me.”
He looked startled. “Why would Harry try to attack you?”
“Well he found out that you’ve been upset lately and blamed me for it. I’m so sorry Daddy.”
“Princess, what do you have to be sorry for?”
“I made you upset.” I looked down in shame. “I didn’t respond to any of your letters and I’m just a horrible person and daughter.” He smiled weakly at me.
“Hold on for a second. I’d step back if I were you.”
My dad’s face disappeared and the next thing I knew, he was standing right in front of me.
“Are you allowed to do that; floo into my common room?” I asked.
“Maybe, maybe not; I’m a Marauder after all. I haven’t been caught yet.”
I giggled. “I must take after you then.” He smiled and opened his arms. I leaned into him and hugged him tight.
“If anyone should be sorry, it’s me Rex. I know it’s going to take a while for you to forgive me for all the hell I put you through.”
Just then, Blaise came walking from his dormitory. He instantly walked over with a worried expression on his face. I rolled my eyes and broke away from my dad.
“Hello, Mr. Black.” Blaise said with a slight edge to his voice. I elbowed him in the ribs.
“Dad, this is my boyfriend Blaise.” The men shook hands and I could tell Blaise was trying hard to not break his polite demeanor.
“Blaise,” Dad stated. “I want to thank you for looking after Rex and loving her when I fell short of doing that.”
“It really wasn’t for your benefit.” Blaise replied.
“I know, but I still want to thank you. Well, I must go now before any of us get into trouble. Rex, remember I’m an owl or a floo away. I love you.”
“Yeah, bye Dad.” He stepped into the fireplace and disappeared.
Blaise wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed the top of my head. “Wow…that was….”
“I know.” I said.
A/N: And that’s the end of Chapter 15! What did you think? Was it what you expected? What are your thoughts on Harry and Sirius? Pretty please review!!
A/N: Sorry I haven’t updated! School has been keeping me busy! I hope you like this chapter!
“That arse did WHAT?!”
“NO! The man that has been treating you like scum for the past four years is now, all of a sudden, deciding to play doting father?! He comes into our common room and apologizes and says he loves you?!”
“Haven’t you been the one telling me since the beginning of the year that he still loves me?” I responded.
“Are you seriously spending Christmas with him?!” Draco yelled.
“Don’t change the subject!”
“Answer the damn question, Rex! Are you spending Christmas with him?”
“I was planning to…”
“Then don’t even bother coming over.”
“What?” I whispered.
“You heard me. If you are going home to your dear father, don’t even bother coming over my house.”
“Draco; that is way out of line.”
“Stay out of this, Blaise! I didn’t ask for your opinion. I’m guessing you’re ditching me too? Are you going to spend Christmas with the lovely Mr. Black?”
“No, I am coming over like I do every year.”
“Draco…” I pleaded, tears running down my face.
“Oh, don’t start feeling regretful now. Don’t give me that crying crap. I can’t be played like Blaise. I’m not going to start feeling sorry I said anything and run over to you and give you a hug.”
I sniffled. “I’m not ditching you. I’m trying to give my father a chance; like how Remus and my mother want me to!”
“How do you know what your mother would want, Rex? She’s dead, or has that escaped your notice?”
I stared at Draco in shock, tears still streaming down my face. Blaise growled and tackled Draco, both of them toppling to the floor. Blaise started to beat on Draco.
“You are such a prat! How-dare-you-say-that-to-her!” he exclaimed, saying a word between each punch. I ran over to pull Blaise off of him.
“Blaise!” I reached out and touched his arm, but he shrugged me off. “Blaise, please get off of him!” I grabbed him around the torso and tried to pull him off, but he was too heavy.
“Rex, let go of me!” He ripped my arms off of him and pushed me away. I lost my footing and fell backwards into one of the tables. At the sound of the collision, Blaise looked over and ran over to me. He tried to reach out for me, but I flinched away.
“You both are wacked. Blaise, consider yourself uninvited.” Draco said, holding his nose that was gushing blood. He ran out of the common room.
I hid my face in my knees and sobbed. Blaise tried to wrap his arm around me, but I moved away. “Rex, I’m sorry.”
“You didn’t need to start hitting him.”
“I was mad.” “That doesn’t give you an excuse to beat up your best friend! Is that what you’re going to do to me when I make you mad?”
“No, babe; please let me explain…”
“NO! I don’t want you to explain anything! Just leave me alone!” I stood up and ran to my dormitory.
Walking back to the common room after getting my wounds healed, I was seething. How dare Rex just ditch me on Christmas! She wants to “give her father a chance.” Pfft, yeah right. And what the hell was with Blaise beating me up? All I said was...oh crap.
I got on the train and looked for a compartment to sit in. I hadn’t talked to Blaise or Draco since the fight in the common room, which was two weeks ago. I couldn’t face them. Draco, for the things he said, and Blaise for being so violent. They both had tried to talk to me, but I wouldn’t have it. I sat by myself in classes and during meals. I did my homework in the library and went to bed as early as I could. I basically avoided them at all costs. I was lonely as ever. Besides Dray and Blaise, I don’t have any other close friends I can hang out with. I was only acquaintances with Pansy; we really didn’t talk except for the occasional hellos. Ginny, I don’t know what happened to her. Ever since after the ball, Draco had not hung out with her. Maybe Blaise was right about him forgetting.
I found an empty compartment and claimed it. I sat down and pulled out a book. I didn’t really read, but it was the only thing I could do to pass the time away. As the train started to move, the compartment door opened. A fourth year Ravenclaw girl with blonde hair and blue eyes was standing there. She was wearing these goofy charms. Oh, that’s right; her name was Luna Lovegood.
“What do you want?”
“You’re Alexa Black, right?”
“Oh good! Harry’s been looking for you and wants you to sit with us.” My eyes widened.
“Yes! Now come on!”
I gathered my things and followed Luna down the train. I happened to glance into a compartment and saw Draco and Blaise chatting. Daphne Greengrass and Pansy were in there as well. I stopped walking. Pansy was all over Draco, as I suspected. I noticed Daphne sitting next to Blaise and trying to touch his thigh. Blaise moved away every time. She then whispered something into his ear. He looked disgusted and moved further away from her. She was flirting with him! She was flirting with my boyfriend! I ripped open the door.
“Greengrass, get your filthy hands off my boyfriend!”
“Your boyfriend? HA!” she cackled. “You two haven’t spoken in weeks! Everyone around school believes you have broken up. He’s got me to be his girl now.”
Tears welled up in my eyes. I looked over at Blaise to see if that was true. Were we broken up?
“Daphne shut up and get out of our compartment. I don’t want you here, and I sure as hell don’t appreciate you trying to touch me every five seconds.” Blaise said. She glared at him and pushed past me on her way out.
I looked at Blaise whose face turned from disgusted to normal as soon as she left. “Are we broken up?” I asked him. He looked at me sadly.
“Do you want to be?” I shook my head, more tears welling up in my eyes.
“No, I don’t want that. I just…” Blaise got up and I was in his arms only a few seconds later. I clung to him and wept on his shoulder.
“Ahem.” A voice interrupted our embrace. “Should I tell Harry you won’t be sitting with us then?” Luna asked. I nodded and she smiled as she walked away.
“Baby, I’m so sorry.” Blaise whispered in my ear.
“No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been ignoring you. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
“Even harder than McGonagall’s tests?” I giggled.
“A hundred times harder.” He hugged me tight then and nuzzled my neck.
“I’ve missed you so much.” he said after placing a soft kiss on my neck.
“I’ve missed you too.”
“Hey! What about me?” Draco exclaimed. I broke away from Blaise and he got up and took my hand. I stood in front of him, waiting for him to say something.
“Rex, I am so sorry for how I acted and what I said. I never meant any of it. I was just so angry at the fact that Sirius... Merlin, I really don’t know why I did, but I am sorry. Forgive me?”
I looked down at the ground. “I was looking for support on this. I’m spending Christmas with a family that all hates me, except for two people. I don’t know what will happen, and I really do want to try to make things better. What happens when I go to my best friend about it? He blows it up in my face and banishes me from being his friend.” He put a hand under my chin and made me look at him.
“Rex, you are my best friend. I’m sorry that I took my anger out on you. I’m sorry I haven’t been supporting you at all. I am going to try harder; be a better friend. Please just forgive me.”
When the train pulled up to the station, we gathered up our stuff and walked onto the platform. I didn’t see my dad, so I went over to greet Narcissa, Lucius, Amy, and Steve. “Rex! It’s so good to see you!” Amy exclaimed as she gave me a hug. “Are you still coming home with us?”
“No, I’m not. I’m going home with my dad.” She frowned.
“Oh, well please don’t hesitate to owl us if you need anything.”
At dinner, most of the Order was there; Remus, Tonks, Mad-Eye Moody, and a few other wizards I didn’t know the names of. Halfway through their talk about how they were gathering followers, Ron, who was sitting right next to me, spoke up.
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but should you really be discussing this in front of Alexa? She could tell this information to her little death-eater boyfriends when she sees him again.” Everyone gasped. I stood up.
“Blaise is NOT A DEATH-EATER!! AND NEITHER IS DRACO!” I yelled. He looked smug. I bet he was just trying to rile me up.
“They’re in Slytherin!” Harry exclaimed.
“And what does that have to do with anything?”
“Come on, anyone who was or is in Slytherin ends up to be a follower of Voldemort!”
“Which means you are too! Show me your arm; let’s see if they marked you.” Ron said. Dad stood up.
“Alright Ron, Harry, that is quite ENOUGH!!!” he yelled. Harry looked kind of scared. I take it he never heard my dad scream.
Ron scoffed and as I tried to sit back down, he pulled my chair out from under me and I landed hard on my butt. A cry of “Ron!” sounded and I stood up and ran to my room. I gathered my trunk and grabbed a piece of parchment and wrote a note to Blaise to have Roxie take to him.
I want to come home. Please, take me home.
A/N: This was quite a long chapter, and had a lot happen in it. I had a point I wanted to stop at (the note) and I didn’t want to move it to the next chapter. Please leave a review! I would really appreciate it!!
A/N: This chapter starts in Blaise’s point of view. Enjoy!
I want to come home. Please, take me home.
I ran downstairs to the kitchen where my parents were having tea. “Mum!” I exclaimed.
“What is it, sweetie?”
“I need to bring Rex home. She sent me this note.” I handed her the parchment and her eyes started to tear up.
“Oh, my poor baby. Steve, would you apparate Blaise to the Blacks’?”
“Why don’t you just floo there, son?” I sighed.
“I want to make a point to Sirius and the rest of the family. I would like to knock on the front door instead of barging into their house.”
Dad put down his paper and stood up. “Alright, let’s go.”
I wanted to stay locked in my room for the rest of the night. My dad came to my door to coax me out, but I ignored him. After staying in there for a half hour, there was a knock on the front door. Curious, I opened my door and saw the entire family standing in the foyer.
“You cannot just take her with you!” my father exclaimed. I inched my way down the stairs.
“I can and I will. She sent me a note with Roxie. I have it here if you don’t believe me.”
There was a moment of silence. “She’s already home! Her home is here!”
“She doesn’t seem to think so if she’s writing me to take her.”
I peered around the corner and smiled. Blaise. I walked further into the room and then all eyes turned to me.
“Alexa…” my dad breathed.
“I don’t want to be here anymore. My trunk is packed and I’m going home with Blaise.”
“This is your home!” he exclaimed.
“No Dad, it isn’t. It used to be. This was home for me when I was loved by you and everyone else. It stopped being home right after I went to Hogwarts, and that is entirely your fault. I did what was asked of me, I gave you another chance. Now that I see it will never work out again between us, I want to go home to my family.”
Tears started flowing from his eyes. “I don’t want to lose you like I lost your mother.”
“Well then maybe you should have thought of that before you disowned me in my first year. Maybe you should have thought of that before you basically blamed me for Mum’s death.”
Remus gasped. “You didn’t?” he questioned, turning to my dad.
“Al-Rex,” he said. Does he really think calling me by my nickname will change anything? “I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking. I love you. You are my daughter. I want to be part of your life.”
I walked right past him and into Blaise’s arms. “Can we go home?” I asked. He pulled me tighter to him and nodded. My dad let out a cry and flew up the stairs and a door slammed.
“Where’s your trunk?” Blaise asked.
“In my room, come on.” I took his hand and led him to my room; ignoring everyone else. I went to grab my trunk, but Blaise picked it up before I could. “So chivalrous,” I said with a giggle. He smiled and pecked me on the lips. He took my hand and we went downstairs to the fireplace. “How did you get here if we are flooing back?” I asked.
“I came with my dad by Side-Along. I thought it would make a better impression.” I rolled my eyes and we were engulfed in the green flames to head back to Zabini Manor.
As soon as I dusted myself off, I was enveloped into a motherly hug. “Oh Rex, are you okay? What happened?” I hugged her back tightly and sighed.
“Oh dear, come sit. I’ll make you a cup of tea. Blaise, take her trunk up to her room.” He complied and headed upstairs.
Amy handed me a cup of tea and asked me to continue with the story of the evening. Blaise came back down about halfway through and sat beside. He rested his hand on my leg as a sign of comfort.
“Those monsters…” Steve growled when I was finished. Amy had tears in her eyes, and couldn’t help but let them fall down her cheeks.
“Oh, please don’t cry.” I said as I went over and hugged her. She smiled.
“Did you eat, darling? I’ll make you some dinner if you didn’t.”
“I’m not that hungry, but thanks.”
Blaise took my hand and pulled me up off the couch. “You must be tired, love. Let’s go to bed.” I followed him reluctantly. The last thing I wanted to do was sleep.
I was walking down the hallway from the bathroom when I heard Amy and Steve talking in their bedroom. I stopped to listen.
“How could they do that to our baby?” Amy asked in disbelief. “Steve, I don’t ever want her going back there.”
“We can’t stop her from doing what she wants. She wanted to give them all a second chance…”
“They blew it!” she interrupted.
“Even so, we can’t force her into anything.”
“She doesn’t belong with them! She belongs with us! I told you back in their first year, we should have taken her in full time; be her adopted parents.”
“We are though, you know what Blaise says in his letters. ‘Rex can’t stop talking about coming home to her family; you and Mum, and Narcissa and Lucius.’ Besides, Sirius wouldn’t have allowed it!”
“He didn’t care about my baby girl until this year.” Amy retorted.
Steve sighed. “Let’s just go to bed, love. You’re upset and exhausted.”
I heard them shuffling the blankets of their bed and that’s when I started walking again. I opened the door to Blaise’s room and giggled at the sight before me. He was sprawled across the entire bed on his back with one arm flung over his eyes.
“Are you going to stand there all day or come and cuddle with me?” he asked as he sat up.
I giggled again. “Sorry, I thought you were asleep.”
“I can’t sleep unless you are with me.” I rolled my eyes.
“You can be such a girl sometimes, you know that?”
“Oi! I am not a girl! Take it back!” he exclaimed, standing up.
“I won’t ever take back the truth.”
“Oh, you will once I’m done with you.” He came closer and put his hands on my waist. Just as I thought he was going to hug me, he started tickling me relentlessly.
“B-Blaise! Stop! I c-c-can’t breathe!”
“Not unless you take it back.” I laughed even harder, and managed to rip myself from his grip. I jumped on the bed and snuggled into the covers. He shook his head at me and wrapped an arm around my waist once he was laying down.
“You know, I just heard your parents talking earlier about how I belong here.”
“Well, it’s the truth babe.”
A/N: So what do you think? Weren't Amy and Steve wonderful? I thought it was about time to show their personalities and affection towards Rex. You'll see more of that and also of Lucius and Narcissa in later chapters. Please please leave a review! I’ll give you a cookie hehe. I baked some today so I have plenty! :)
“Sweetheart, wake up.”
I groaned and buried my head into the pillow.
“Rex, it’s time to get up. The Malfoys will be here any minute.”
I rubbed my eyes and looked up at him. “What? Why?”
“Mum told them last night what happened. They want to make sure you’re alright.”
“Well, I’m alive.”
“Draco’s worried sick.”
I sighed. “He’s such a little baby.”
“He cares about you.”
“Yeah, and you do too, but I didn't see you freaking out about what happened.”
He smiled sadly and ran a finger down my cheek. “You didn’t see me when I brought your trunk upstairs. I punched a wall and broke practically everything in this room. Dad healed my hand and repaired everything.”
“Now why would you do that?”
Blaise groaned. “Because I couldn't stand the fact that you had been hurt.” He leaned closer to me. “They were so mean and rude to me, I could only imagine how they acted towards you.”
With that, he sweetly kissed me on the lips. “I love you.” he said.
I smiled. “I love you more.”
“Nah, that’s impossible because I love you the most.”
“Eww, you guys are so disgusting with all that mushy crap! Do you always insist on doing it in front of me?!”
I laughed. “Well Draco, we didn't know you were there. We can get worse if you want.”
“No! No! NO! Can you go back to being my best friends instead of a lovesick couple?”
I finally pushed the covers off of me, got out of bed, and grabbed an outfit out of my trunk. “Oh Dray, you’ll find a girl that makes you lovesick. And then Blaise and I can complain for once.”
“I do NOT complain.”
“Dude, you complain more than Pansy sometimes.” Blaise said.
“Why do you two always insist on picking on me?” he whined.
“Draco, stop acting like a girl and join us for breakfast.” Lucius drawled from the doorway. “I didn’t have a daughter and I surely do not want one now.”
Blaise and I busted out laughing as Draco’s jaw dropped. Lucius had a satisfying smirk on his face.
“I said come down for breakfast.” he repeated and walked out of the room.
“Did he…just….call me a GIRL?!? My own father called me a girl?”
“Looks like it mate.” Blaise said. I hadn’t stopped laughing.
“Oh Rex, just shut up!” Draco mumbled. That made me laugh even harder. “I know there’s a cheering charm, but is there a charm to stop someone from laughing?” he asked Blaise.
“Does it look like I have a clue? I do as much studying as you!” he replied while another smirk appeared on his face.
Draco rolled his eyes and walked over to me. “Stop laughing.” I shook my head. “Do you think I’m a girl too?” I ignored him and walked out of the room laughing. “Don’t walk away from me!”
“I have to go change!” I replied.
“Well change after you answer me.”
“Draco, how many times do I have to tell you that you can’t tell me what to do?” I asked with a sweet smile on my face.
He groaned and stomped his way down the hall and down the stairs to the kitchen. Blaise came out of the room with a smirk on his face.
“He never learns.”
I shook my head. “Do you think that he realizes I’m okay now?”
When we walked into the kitchen, Draco was sitting at the table pouting next to Lucius, who wore a smirk on his face. Narcissa looked up at us and tears formed in her eyes.
“Rex, you are okay!” she exclaimed.
Amy turned from the stove and smiled at me. “Yes,” she said. “Our girl sure is fine.”
I took my seat across from Dray, and he looked away from me. “Oh, is the wittle girly upset?” I asked mockingly. He then glared at me. “Oh, it looks like she’s going to throw a temper tantrum.”
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, stood up, and then walked out of the room. I looked at Blaise curiously.
“I think you did overkill on the girl thing.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m allowed to make fun of him. He’ll get over it.”
Blaise chuckled. “Babe, that’s not the point.”
Okay, now I was really confused.
“He’s upset because he thinks his manliness is in question.”
“How is Draco manly?” I asked.
Lucius then burst out laughing. We all looked at him funny. He never did that. He quickly regained his composure when he noticed us staring.
We ate breakfast and Draco hadn’t come back yet. I sighed and excused myself to go find him. He was sitting in the library looking down at the floor. His head snapped up when the door creaked and he glared at me. He turned away.
“Look, I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“Yeah, well you did.” he said coldly.
“I was just teasing.” “
Well you did that enough upstairs. There was no need to do in front of everyone; especially my father!”
“He was the one who started it!”
I couldn't believe he was getting mad at me. I may have gone overkill, but teasing him is something I always did. If I wasn't finding an opportunity to poke fun at Dray or Blaise, they could automatically tell something was wrong. I thought he cared if I was alright or not.
“Draco, I don’t want to do this. I’ve already had to deal with Potter and Weasel. I don’t want it from my best friend.”
He turned around and his eyes were stern. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I couldn’t handle that look in eyes knowing I put it there. His arms wrapped me up in a hug.
He chuckled. “I guess if you’re poking fun, you are yourself. I don’t have to worry that you’re not okay.”
I stepped out of his embrace. “Come on, you missed breakfast. I’ll cook you something to make it up to you.”
He smiled. “Thanks. I should find Blaise too. Just so you know, we’re still going to beat the crap out of Potty and Weasel no matter what.”
I grinned. “I wouldn’t have you two any other way.”
