Chapter 1: Spring air

Sorry this chapter is so short and not particulary interesting, but it'll get better i promise!
new line new person speaking.
Enjoy

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The air smelt of spring.
I lay under a tree next to the black lake, letting waves of cool air wash over me. I ran my fingers and toes through the grass, just letting the simplicity of it all lull me into a sense of tranquillity.
“Keeley?” I heard someone call out. I lay completely still hoping the tall grass would hide me from this unwanted visitor.
“Keeley?” The voice was a lot sterner and louder than it was before. Suddenly Professor Austerus’ bony face was looking down at me, a frown creasing her already wrinkled skin. We both waited in silence.
“Miss Rosenthal I would like to enquire as to why I did not see you in my potions lesson today.”
I blinked once then let out a prolonged sigh.
“Well?” the professor demanded her frown deepening.
I sat up slowly and counted to ten in my head. “I‘m so sorry Professor, I must of lost track of time.” I said stretching the truth to breaking point. I’d hadn’t forgotten or lost track of time, in fact, after herbology I had changed out of my robes and into my favourite summer dress, then ran as fast as I could to the lake.

To start with I just sat on a branch which stretched out so that it was above the lake. As time wore on I climbed right down to the end of the branch and let my feet dip in and out of the water, never tiring of the ripples on the surface. When the giant squid came into sight I quietly slipped off the branch and onto the soft bank. that’s when I realised the time, but I didn’t rush off to lessons like a good student, as I decided that if I was going to get in trouble I might as well do it properly.

“Your coming with me” the potions teacher squawked grabbing me by the wrist and dragging me towards the great looming castle of Hogwarts.

“I demand you punish her, for she purposely didn’t even arrive at my lesson…” Professor Austerus ranted on and on, telling the headmaster how I was a failure as a student, that my academic future was at risk etc etc.
I tuned her out and instead began to pick at the threads on my jacket sleeve.
“I wouldn‘t do that my dear” Professor Longbottom said staring at me kindly and ignoring the splutter of outrage from Agnes Austerus.
“Right, I will deal with this matter, your presence Is no longer needed Agnes” Neville Longbottom said getting out of his chair and opening the door to his office.
With one last withering look at me Professor Austerus left the room.
I lowered my head and waited for the headmaster to shout at me or tell me I was expelled, but only silence followed I reluctantly looked up.
“Keeley? Is there a reason why you didn’t go to your potions lesson today?” He asked kindly.
I shook my head “No”
“Well as long as you don‘t do this again I see no reason for you to be punished.”
“Your not taking any points from my house?” I asked in shock.
“I don‘t think that Gryffindor needs any points taken away, do you?”
I smiled “No sir!”
“Off you go then!”
With a wink from the headmaster I left and strolled to the Gryffindor common room. Once inside I climbed up the stairs to the girl’s dormitories then lay face down in my bed. I heard the tell-tale squeak of the door opening and someone came and perched next to me on the bed.
“You OK Keeley?” the even voice of Rose Weasley sounded.
“Hmm” I replied, not bothering to say anything else. But Rose understood and didn’t press for a proper answer.
Rose Weasley is my best friend in the whole world.
There was a timid knock at the door and a first year girl came in.
“Albus and Scorpius told me to tell your to get your bums down because they’re bored” She said her voice sounding small.
“Thanks Melinda” I said warmly getting up and following her to the door.
Melinda blushed and ran down the stairs and out of sight.
“Don’t you just love kids” I spoke, my voice all fuzzy and my arms wrapped around my torso
“Keeley! We‘ve been over this and over this, your 15, wait at least 5 years before you even think about having kids!” Rose scolded, tired of my broodiness.
“but…”
“No buts” she reinforced laughing towing me towards the spiral staircase.

Chapter 2: A Cherry Blossom
[View Online]  [Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

I'm sorry this one is so long but I needed to get alot said in this chapter!
i do not own any of these characters, obviously except Keeley, who is my own OC!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a glorious Friday afternoon. The sun was shining and the birds singing gaily from the tree tops. I had taken a book outside, tired of the spring chills, and had sat on one of the many old walls to read it, enjoying the rare sunshine. Albus was sat on the ground in front of me, entertaining some younger students.

“So anyway there I was surrounded, by twenty Acromantulas each as big as a car when…”
I shook my head and looked up from the book I was reading,
“Al we all know that those ‘Acromantulas’ were actually common house spiders” I commented using my fingers to make quotation marks in the air.
“AND that you had to call your mum to get rid of them” I added cheekily, putting my book down and jumping up.
Albus blushed and tried to regain the interest of his fist year audience, but to no avail. They all left in search of better things to do.

“Ah Keeley what was that for?!” Albus whined lolloping after me.
“I‘m sorry Al but I will not have you corrupting the mind of young students!” I answered turning my head away from him. He planted himself in front of me and held onto both my shoulders, stopping me from going anywhere. I looked down at the floor.
“Keeley look at me” Albus asked
I shook my head playfully and he put his hand under my chin, to pull my face up to meet his. For a moment we both didn’t move and just looked into each others eyes. The sun created a golden halo around his head, making his trademark wont-stay-flat hair even more obviously messy. I liked it that way and he knew it. Slowly, his face leaned into mine and…

“Ally!” someone squealed putting their hands over Albus’ eyes.
He reluctantly let go of my chin and turned around to greet his girlfriend.
“Carna!” He exclaimed, it pleased me to notice his voice sounded slightly strained.
Without warning she pulled his face down to her level and kissed him full on the mouth, Sickened at the sight I walked away my book clutched tightly to my chest, trying to hold back the tears, that threatened to overwhelm me.
I heard Albus call after me, but I ducked my head down and doubled my speed.
I had no idea where I was going but headed towards the forest, my bag, full of the days work, bashing carelessly into people walking down the corridors.

Not looking where I was going I ran into Someone a lot taller than me and fell to the floor, the contents of my bag scattering everywhere. An ink bottle had smashed soaking one of my essays and all my books. Tears came to my eyes obscuring my vision. I groped about on the floor slowly gathering my things.
I reached out to pick up a text book but my hand encountered someone else’s. I quickly pulled my hand back and looked up into the face of Scorpius Malfoy, who I recognised because he shared a dorm and was good friends with Al in Slytherin.

“I‘m so-o-rr-ry” I stuttered busting into tears. In an attempt to stop the waterworks I rubbed my ink stained hands over my eyes, not caring, for once what I looked like.
“No don’t cry!” he panicked picking up my stuff up and dumping it in my bag. He hesitantly patted my shoulder and I instinctively grasped onto his shirt and cried harder, each sob racking my body.
“Er ok!” He said trying to prise my hands of him. When he realised that I wasn’t letting go anytime soon, and we were blocking up the corridor, he snatched up my bag and scooped me up into his arms. I rested my head against his chest and then fell asleep.

I opened my eyes to the leafy green canopy above me. My eyes were sore and my body stiff. I sat up and ran my fingers through my shoulder length, golden brown hair, to try to detangle the knots.
“your awake then” a male voice said from my left.
Scorpius Malfoy was sat with his back against a giant oak, reading what appeared to be natures nobilities.
Then everything that had happened dawned upon me and I felt the blood rush to my face. I groped around on the floor next to me for my wand.
“My wand…?” I asked my croaky voice rising with fear. I coughed to clear my throat.
“here” Scorpius reassured me throwing it for me to catch.. I caught it just bashing my wrist on a tree.
“thanks” I thanked him sheepishly.

He got up and walked over so he was stood in front of me, then sat down. For the first time I noticed how handsome he was. Blond hair, grey eyes, straight nose and a strong jaw line. I had a sudden urge to stroke his face.
“are you ok?” He asked sincerely, snapping me out of the random fantasy.
I chuckled “lots of people have asked me that recently” I admitted sighing.
“how come? Has something happened?” He responded sounding truly concerned, his surprisingly deep eyes probing my face intently.
I thought about what to say for a little while then replied “My dad was attacked by some death eaters a while back and is still in St Mungos unconscious.”
Whatever Scorpius expected me to say it wasn’t that. I could see he felt kind of guilty for asking me and didn’t know what to say.
“It‘s ok though” I added as an after thought, not wanting it to me my fault if the atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
“No it‘s not, its far from ok” He said his hands clenched into fists.
I tilted my head to the side, as I normally did when I was confused.
“It makes me so… mad when people have to suffer because of those stupid death eaters, who are in denial about Voldermort coming back” He expressed passionately.
This confused me even more. “no offence, but aren‘t you all for them, as your the son of a well known death eater?” I enquired.
Furry flared in Scorpius’ eyes and I could tell I’d really stepped in it. “Why does EVERYONE assume that?!” He shouted getting up and turning away from me.
I hesitantly got up and placed my hand on his shoulder. He flinched as my cold hand touched his skin. My arm recoiled instinctively, “I‘m so…”
I was interrupted with a muttered ” just forget it”. With a twitch of his shoulder he stalked off further into the forest, leaving me lost and alone.

This thought didn’t particularly scare me, as I generally feel at peace when in amongst trees and plants. When I was little I used to see faces in the gnarly bark and I used to pretend that the trees would whispered my name when the wind blew through their leaves.
I laughed at my foolishness, but couldn’t help remember the stories my dad used to tell me about where my mum was. Thinking of the stories brought back a memory, as clear as if it happened only yesterday.

“Just one more story daddy, please!” begged a seven year old Keeley from her bed.
“All right pumpkin, just one more” her father replied stroking his little girls head.
He rearranged his position on the bed so Keeley could snuggle into his arms and rest her head on his chest.
“In the land of day dreams and dew drops,” He began slowly, emphasising each word. “There lived a beautiful elf maiden who went by the name of Victoria ”
“Mummy!” Keeley interrupted.
“Yes, anyway, Victoria could speak to the trees and some said that she could even turn herself into one. Of course if she ever was a tree she would be a cherry blossom- as that’s the most beautiful tree there is.
One day Victoria met a man who went by the name of John. Now john wasn’t the strongest or handsomest or even cleverest man in the village, but Victoria was drawn to him all the same. They fell in love and had a beautiful baby girl whom they named Keeley because her beauty was so pure.
One day John awoke and Victoria wasn‘t there. He picked up Keeley and went into the forest and called out her name again and again, but no one answered.
John was forced to live his life without sign or whisper of his beautiful wife… but on Keeley‘s first birthday John found a cherry blossom on the little girls pillow… The end, now off to bed!”
Keeley thought for a moment then said” So is mummy a tree somewhere?”
Her dad pinched the bridge of his nose “I don‘t know princess, I just don’t know.”
With that John Rosenthal planted a kiss on his daughters head and departed the room, turning the light off as he went.

I sighed at the memory, I never did find out what happened to my mother, I never thought to ask. Thinking back I do faintly remember a cherry blossom, it was always on top of my dad’s chest of drawers next to a picture of my mum. The faded photograph showed someone with thick dark brown hair falling way past her shoulders, her eyes were blue and she had a rounded face.
It pleased me that I could see certain features of mine in this photo. Like my rounded face and thick lashes. My eyes aren’t blue like my mum’s, but hazel, green with tawny flecks.

Without warning the sun disappeared behind some clouds and rain began to fall heavily. Each drop that landed made a splash sound, making the forest seem more alive.
Foolishly I never thought to cast a water repellent charm. I let the rain soak me right through. My hair turned to rat tails and stayed plastered to my head. I could feel the little mascara that had not smudged from crying, run down my face.
The rain made me feel more energised than I had felt in weeks, so I lifted my hands to the sky and spun around in circles making myself extremely dizzy. I didn’t care though. I fell to the floor, getting covered in mud in the process and laughed with exhilaration.

Somewhere in the distance I heard several voices calling my name. At first I truly thought it was the trees, then two people ran into the little clearing where I was stood.
The rain made it difficult for me to see who these boys were, the gathering darkness didn’t help either.
“Keeley what are you doing” they both shouted in unison. The boys both looked in the others direction, apparently unaware that they weren’t the only one looking for me.
One of the boys ran forward and grabbed onto my wrist. I could just make out a pair of brown eyes peeping out from a mop of black hair.
“Al?” I questioned, my tongue heavy and confused as to why he was here.
“Yes! What do you think your doing?! Your going to catch a cold or something” He replied
Now Al mentioned it I did feel cold. But knowing he’d come out to find me, made my insides go all warm.
“Hey!” the other boy shouted starting forward.
“Scorpius?!” Albus shouted sounding shocked.
“yeh! What are you doing here?” Scorpius hollered back, as the wind had picked up
“I‘d come to find Keeley. What about you?” Albus questioned suspiciously.
“same, I stormed off earlier leaving her here” He turned to face me, “I‘m so sorry Keeley, I shouldn’t have left you”
I didn’t get why he was apologising, as it was my fault he had left me in the first place. But I just nodded as I suddenly felt very tired.
Albus pointed his lit wand at my hand which was in his grip, and Scorpius did the same.
“Oh my gosh she‘s gone blue” He exclaimed panic edging his voice.
Intrigued I looked at the hand they were pointing at. I was mildly shocked by the fact that my skin, especially at the tips of my fingers, was tinged a blue colour.
“We need to get her back to the castle” one of the boys stated, I was losing focus, so didn’t know who said it.
One of the two boys picked me up, cradling me in his arms, whilst the other shrugged off their jacket (which had been impregnated with the water repellent charm) and put it over me. They then ran through the forest. After about five minutes we were out by the game keepers hut. It turned out that we weren’t that far into the forest after all.

Once inside the castle they took me to the hospital wing. By this point I was shivering and everything seemed distorted.
Scorpius, for in the light I could make out who everyone was, lowered me gently onto one of the hospital beds. He then stepped back to stand with Albus who was waiting by the door.
“I don‘t need” I mumbled as madam pompfrey undressed me, leaving me in my underwear.
“I‘m sorry dear but the fastest way to get you warm is to give you a bath”
Both boys looked very uncomfortable with basically naked me sat there. Albus was scuffing his toe against the floor and Scorpius looking at the floor as if it was highly fascinating.
“you boys can go now” Madam pompfrey said, finally noticing them.
Relieved they left the room in a hurry, as If they’d been chased by a swarm of bees.

Madame pomfrey gave me a bath making the water hotter as I got warmer. Once I was no longer blue, I got into one of the beds and was given a sleeping draught. Within minutes of taking it I fell into a deep sleep.

I had a dream that I was standing alone in a really bright meadow. There was a pond in the middle, so I floated over and noticed that instead of fish, everyone I loved was swimming about, looking rather gormless. I saw Albus and my head started spinning. One of the swimming people teleported out of the water next to me. It was Al. He strolled over to me and took one of my hands into both of his.
He moved his mouth, as if he

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a dream that I was standing alone in a really bright meadow. There was a pond in the middle. I scanned the clearing for any other object of interest but it became apparent that I was meant to look in it, so I floated gracefully over and noticed that instead of fish, everyone I loved was swimming about, looking rather gormless. I saw Albus and my head started spinning and I longed to embrace him. I knelt down and dipped my hand into the water, then pulled it back out again. My hand wasn’t wet-it was completely dry. I plunged my whole arm in and wiggle it about. The substance in this pond was similar to that of smoke. Then my wrist encountered one of the water-dwelling folk and it teleported out of the water next to me. It was Al.

It was if my chest was full to bursting with elation when strolled over to me and took one of my hands into both of his.

He moved his mouth, as if he was talking, but no sound emerged.

When I opened my mouth to reply a pure note escaped, shocking both me and him. This was quickly replaced with a frenzied look and he strode forward, knotting his fingers into my hair.

He leaned in so our noses were almost touching, then pressed his lips against mine. Moving gently, his lips parted mine and I could taste his breath on my tongue.

With that I woke with a start, my breathing heavy. I brushed my fingers past my lips to make sure his kiss, even though in a dream, hadn’t altered them in anyway.

My heart still racing I grabbed my wand and got out of the hospital bed then tiptoed out of the ward and into the dark corridors- I didn’t like being away from the Gryffindor dorm.

Surprisingly I made it to the fat lady without being caught.

“Amos” I whispered

Sleepily the fat lady swung open the door, allowing me to enter. I crawled through the portrait hole, landed on the floor, letting my feet sink into the thick rug and being careful to make no noise, carefully tiptoed my way up the stairs and into my dorm; whom I shared with Rose and Violet (a close friend in my year).

I opened the door a crack and poked my head through the gap. Both girls were asleep, so I crawled into my own bed.

Once comfy I screwed my eyes shut and waited for sleep to take over.

It didn’t.

No matter how much I tossed and turned I couldn’t sleep. Maybe it was the dream I had. Sighing I grabbed a thick pair of socks and a jumper, then crept out of the dorm and into the frosty corridors.

I strolled through the halls, unseen by anyone and anything for the better part of the night. When the frail golden light of dawn, turned into that of the strong sun, starting warming up the stained glass windows, I headed back towards Gryffindor common room, hoping it would still be empty. And to my luck it was. By the looks of things every one who hadn’t decided to get up, had gone down to the great hall for breakfast.

I snuggled up in my favourite armchair and took a dog eared copy of my favourite book out of my jumper pocket (which I had magically enhanced, so that the inside was actually really big).

I had just got to the end of chapter 6 when someone stumbled, sleepily into the room and plonked themselves down on the arm of my chair.

“Keeley….?”

I didn’t even need to look up to realise that the voice belonged to James potter.

“yeh?” I replied, shutting my book and putting it back in my pocket.

“Fancy coming to the spring ball with me?” He asked casually.

I rolled my eyes “Nah, I think I‘ll give that a pass”

“Ah come on! I figured that with you basically being my adoptive sister AND with my amazing good looks, you’d go with me! ” James said.

“James you could have any girl in this school and plus, if I‘m your adoptive sister it would kinda be incest!!” I exclaimed

“I didn’t say it would be like a date! Just as friends. Pweeeeessse” He pleaded, with puppy eyes.

The offer was extremely tempting, no one had asked me yet and I was too chicken to ask someone myself.

“Still no, sorry.” I answered, truly sorry. I knew the reason I had said no was because I was still hoping that Albus and Carna would break up and he would ask me.

“Its because of my idiotic brother isn’t it?” James replied reading my thoughts.

Ever since my first day at Hogwarts, when I accidentally fell into the lap of James Potter, on the way to the Gryffindor table, after I had been sorted, we had been close friends. That’s how I got to know Al.

I nodded glumly looking at my hands.

James ruffled my hair then got up. “Well how about ,unless my brother does make the right choice and asks you, you can go with me?”

“OK! I like the sound of that…. Big bro” I admitted truthfully

James grinned a lopsided smile. “Bye then… lil‘ sis!”

The clock on the wall said 10:30 so I figured it was time to get dressed. I dragged myself upstairs and into my room. Rose and violet weren’t there, but there was a note on my bed which read:

OI KEELEY, I went down to breakfast ‘cause I didn’t know when you’d be back.

See you soon.

Rose

Xxxx
I put the note back down and went to Rose’s chest of drawers and pulled out the green top I had liked. I then took from my own selection of clothing a skirt and brown belt. Once dressed, I put on all the braclets I owned, including the string and wool ones, and the pink ribbon from Rose’s bedroom floor at home, and a necklace, then headed off to the great hall.

“KEELEY!!” Rose shouted flying at me with inhuman speed and catching me in a hug.

“Are you ok? Scorpious told me you were in the hospital wing, and Madame Pomfrey wouldn’t let me in, to see you!” She paused then added slyly “Al seemed really worried”

I blushed. “yeh right! That boy wouldn’t notice if I lost an eye!”

“I so would!” Someone exclaimed from behind me, with mock hurt

I spun around so fast I knocked the glass of pumpkin juice from Al’s hand spilling it all over both of us.

“SORRY” I shouted, my hands flapping about uselessly in front of me.

“No its OK, I shouldn’t have startled you” Al replied grabbing a napkin from the near by table and mopping the spilt juice from my chest area.

Just as I was about to tell him how inappropriate he was being, I saw Carna stroll over from the Slytherin table and stop dead. Her mouth popped open and a mad possessive look took over her facial features. Her fists bunched up and she began to quake with anger.

“ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER” Carna screeched launching herself at Al. She grabbed him by the wrist and towed him out of the great hall.

“sorry” I mouthed at him, and he responded with a sheepish grin, to which Carna swatted him around the head.

I turned back around, expecting to find Rose in shock like me, but in fact she was laughing silently with tears running down her face.

I scowled at her then sat down miserably on the bench for the table. Rose wiped the tears of laughter from her face then sat down next to me, attempting to look nonchalant. She failed miserably.

“What if he hates me now?!” I blurted out, a look of true concern on my face.

Rose rolled her eyes. “Yeh right! Carna is going to finish with him, he‘ll realise he‘s actually in love with you and you’ll get married. The end”.

I snorted, then realised how unlady like I sounded, so tried to cover it up with a cough.

I then heard a smack against flesh, and so ran towards the entrance to the hall.

“He will ask you to the dance, you wait and see…..” I heard Rose call after me.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Ow” Al complained, jerking his head away from the ice pack I was previously holding to his face.

“Al, seriously, do you honestly think this swelling is going to go down on its own?!” I shot back at him, chuckling slightly.

Al cautiously lent his head back to within my reaching distance. He knew that unless he wanted to go to the hospital wing, he’d have to put up with only what I knew about healing- which wasn’t much! I gently placed the ice pack on the red swollen part of his jaw. I heard him exhale sharply. I giggled again.

Al looked at me then said “Its not funny!!”

I looked back at him. “Really? Really??”

“No! I got punched by a GIRL, then she walked off with another guy!” He exclaimed emphasising the word girl.

I looked down at my knees, so that my hair fell down and put a curtain between our faces. But my shoulders still shook with silent laughter.

“Hey! shouldn’t you be paying attention to my injuries, rather than laughing!” he insisted.

I decided to ignore him.

“Anyway if you want to be a healer, your going to need to get the practice” Al added knowingly.

I shook my head. “I want to be a midwife, not a healer!” I informed him.

There was no magic, as to yet, which can help child birth. With it being the beginning of life, there is nothing you can do, but if you think about it you cant do anything to prevent death. Obviously magic cant interfere with the two most important journeys in life.

We were both sat on Albus’ bed in his dorm. Alone. Earlier, after I had heard a thump, and had reached where Al and Carna were, Al was stood clutching his jaw with one hand, and a bit of blood dribbling out his mouth. Whilst Carna waltzed off with Seth Mulciber, one arm around his waist.

To start with I was worried that Al might hate me for breaking him and Carna up, but it was the complete opposite. Apparently he had been trying to end it for a couple of months now, but she just wasn’t getting the hint.

Feeling the humour of the situation ebb away, I thought it was time to check the swelling on Al’s jaw. I looked up from my knees and removed the icepack. There was a royal purple bruise starting to appear over the left side of his face, near his mouth. I gently placed my fingers on the discolouration and applied a little pressure. Al screwed up his eyes in pain.

“sorry” I murmured.

“I think on of my another tooth is broken” Al said, rubbing his jaw.

“That’s weird, I thought I’d fixed them all!” I voiced, confused.

“well can you take another look?” He enquired, something marring his normally steady voice. Was it anxiety?

I sighed and took of the ice pack. He opened his mouth obediently. I looked at his teeth and nothing appeared abnormal.

“I cant see anything Al.” I told him honestly.

“Maybe it’s the light?” He asked.

Considering it to be a possibility I stood up and faced him. I leaned in so I could get a better look.

“I was joking about the tooth by the way” Al whispered.

I was just about to back away, but his arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me towards him, so I was straddling him. He reached up and pressed his lips against mine. I wasn’t expecting anything like that so I responded willing, tenderly moving my lips in sync with his. Then he pulled away.

I probably looked as confused as I felt, because Al responded with

“Sorry, my jaw really does hurt!”

I laughed, relieved I hadn’t done anything wrong. Al started to laugh too because soon we were both laughing uncontrollably. Al fell backwards onto his bed, and because I was still wrapped in his arms, I fell too, landing on top of him.

He then stopped chuckling and wrapped his arms tighter around me and sighed contently.

“I‘ve wanted to do that for a while you know!” He admitted willing.

My insides felt like that had just been attacked by an angry swarm of butterflies. “Really?!” I asked, worried he was joking, or messing me about.

He nodded shyly. Then looked into my eyes. “You have the most beautiful eyes” He commented tracing my cheek bone with his fingers.

I looked away bashfully.

“No seriously! They‘re like the most amazing forest green ever” He insisted.

I didn’t look at him still because I could feel a blush creeping over my face.

“Keeley look at me” He whispered, and I was instantly reminded of the other day when he had said that to me.

I shook my head. I was trying to gather my thoughts, which were scattered everywhere.

“Fine!” Al breathed.

He rolled over so he was on top of me. And I couldn’t look away. I looked up into his brown eyes reluctantly, and smiled. He smiled back, then planted a kiss on my nose.

After thinking it through quickly, I reached up and cupped his face in my hands. He brought his face closer and……

“OH!”

Someone burst through the door. Al jumped off me so quickly, if I had blinked I would have missed it.

He stood in front of me so I couldn’t see who has entered the dorm in such a rush. Al placed his hand on the back on his neck, and I could tell he was uncomfortable.

“Sorry Al, didn’t realise you were busy” The stranger added extra emphasis to the last word. I recognised the voice though.

Cautiously I peered round Al, to see Scopious leaning against the door frame casually. He felt my stare and returned it, but did a double take, when he realised who I was.

“Impressive, my friend. I see the knight in shining armour is finally getting his reward!” Scorpious said a smirk on his lips.

His words really hit home. Did Al really think I was going to sleep with him, just because he had ‘saved’ me from the forbidden forest? I felt hurt, and the pain went straight to my heart.

I stood up suddenly, the green bed spread falling to the floor with a soft thump. I could feel tears burning my eyes.

“Is this true?” I whispered, my voice wavering.

Nobody seemed to have noticed my change in position because when I spoke Al jumped then turned around.

He paused

“….no…..NO!”

His pause was as good as a confession. I marched past both boys and out of the Slytherin common room. As soon as I was further enough away from Albus, I sank to my knees and sobbed.

Please review and read (obviously)

Enjoy...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rose’s POV:

I was sitting in the Gryffindor common room, trying to catch up with all the ancient runes homework I had been set, when a doe patronus had bounded in . It stared at me, with Keeley’s eyes, I noticed they were full of tears.

I had never realised that a patronus has the same eyes as the caster!

The doe lolloped forward, then paused and turned round to look at me. As if it wanted me to follow.

“Fine!” I told it, gathering up all my work with a simple spell then throwing my bag over my shoulder.

I took a step forward, then thought I’d better be prepared for whatever Keeley had in store. So I ran up the stairs two at a time, grabbed a couple of chocolate frogs, which I hastily threw in my bag, and Keeley’s cat Charles off her bed, whom I slung over my shoulder, even though I’m allergic to cats.

Back in the common room, the doe was waiting, tapping one of its cloven hooves impatiently. When it saw me, it took off out of the portrait hole.

Lugging my bag and Charles out of the room, I began to run, trying to keep the doe within my sight.

It led me down corridors, up staircases, down staircases, I thought it was trying to take me on a guided tour of the school! Finally it disappeared into thin air about ten meters in front of me. It upset me for a moment that it had gone, but the graceful way the doe had had broken up into lots of small silvery dots, which floated away, then disappeared was beautiful. Kind of like butterflies heading towards the sun.

I slowed down to a walk and hesitantly walked forward.

Then I saw Keeley. She was sat hunched up, by the stained glass window of a knight being killed by a wizard,

I dropped my bag and Charles, then crouched down so I was at the same level.

“Keeley?” I asked

She looked up at me then began to cry more.

“hey, hey, don’t cry. My face isn’t that disgusting!” I joked trying to make her smile

It worked. She gave a pathetic chuckle, which resulted in violent hiccups.

Remembering that I had brought chocolate, I accio-ed the chocolate frogs, then unwrapped one.

I handed it to Keeley but she shook her head.

“I‘m not asking you to eat it… I‘m TELLING you to eat it.” I told her forcefully.

Rolling her puffy eyes at me, she took the frog, then ate it. Once it was gone, the crying had stopped.

“Ok, so explain, because you look terrible!” I said, handing her Charles. I had to admit, she didn’t look her best. Her normally clear complexion was blotchy and her eyes were puffy and blood shot. Something was defiantly wrong.

“I went back to Al‘s room….because I was fixing him up; Carna had broken loads of his teeth when she punched him. And he…..he kissed me.” She paused.

“He kissed you ?!” I whispered in a happy shock.

“yes and everything was going really well…”

“what do you mean really well?” I interrupted, determined to be told everything.

Keeley blushed “well we were kind of… embracing on his bed.”

Embracing? Since when does anyone use the word embracing I thought. “Ok. continue” I instructed calmly.

“And…..and then Scorpius walked in on us and said something like ‘oh well done, I see the knight in shining amour finally gets his prize’” Keeley mimicked Scopius her voice taking on an idiotic tone.

“right…” I prompted

She looked at me like I was missing something important. “He thought I was repaying Al by sleeping with him! And then when I asked Al if he thought that too he didn’t even deny it!” Her voice rose several octaves towards the end of what she was saying.

“oh” I managed to say, thinking everything over as quickly as I could.

Tears refilled Keeley’s eyes and I shoved the other chocolate frog into her mouth. Whole. She gave me a death stare then began to eat the chocolate, giving me time to think.

“um….I think….we ought to….just ignore Al for the moment.” It was the best I could come up with.

She sighed but agreed. I stood up then helped Keeley up. I grabbed my bag and we walked back to the Gryffindor common room, with Charles in tow.

I then wondered if Keeley had purposely chosen to sit under that window. If not, it was ironic, because the knight in the glass had black raven hair.

That night after I was positive Keeley was asleep, I went to the Slytherin dorms.

Nobody should be able to get into other house’s dorms, but thanks to Al telling the password to Keeley, which she let slip, I got in easily.

It was horrible. There were skulls lining the walls and a eerie green light which filtered in from behind them. From the damp chill of the place, I assumed I was under the black lake. And for once I was extremely glad I wasn’t in Slytherin.

Then all the nastiness dissolved into the normal feel of a common room. I looked around and it wasn’t dissimilar to Gryffindor’s room. There were black leather chairs, with green and silver drapes, chess boards, bookcases, the lot. The only difference was the decoration and colour.

It was then, when I realised the major flaw in my plan. I didn’t know where the boys dorm was. I looked around hopefully for a sign. But found none.

I then noticed what could be two possible entrances to the Slytherin’s rooms. One of the possibilities was a glass tank which contained a small metal door and algae filled water. To anyone else it would probably just look like a very neglected tank, which once had contained fish, but they had died when the neglect got worse. But I could tell it was a portal to somewhere.

The second option was a bookcase which had a hidden leaver. This option was slightly more likely as the first possibility had a creepy air to it.

Just as I took off towards the bookcase, it opened and the very boy I had come to see walked out and into the room.

He saw me and opened his mouth in shock. I returned his shock, completely in awe that I was so lucky.

Then I remembered the reason I was there.

I stormed forward, the anger building up in me and brought my hand across his face as a slap. He stumbled back in shock holding his face.

I looked at him and whispered furiously “How DARE you hurt her like you did.”

He knew who ‘her’ was, because some shame clouded over his expression.

“I didn’t mean to” He explained lamely, sounding a little depressed.

“DIDN’T MEAN TO?! She’s broken!” I spat venomously, grabbing him by the wrist and pulling him forward.

I pulled out the locket on a chain from around my neck and made the chain longer with a spell, then threw it over Albus. He looked like he was going to complain, but with my wand, I tightened the chain so that his arms were pinned to his sides. He looked panicked.

I pulled a memory out of my head then placed it in my open locket.

I had magically transformed my locket into a small pensieve, so when you placed a memory in it, it would allow anyone within the chain to view that memory as if they had gone back in time and experienced it themselves.

The locket snapped shut and began to whistle and vibrate. Then there was a pop and a burst of bright light exploded out of the locket, covering the Slytherin dorm in, what looked like, silver paint. The paint ran down the walls and began creeping along the carpet towards us. Once the paint covered everything, the room began to spin around us, as if we were at the centre.

Albus sent me a panic-stricken look but I stared back calmly. Everything was going as planned.

The spinning slowed down and we were no longer in the dorm, but in one of the many corridors in Hogwarts castle. Details began to appear from the smog swirling around in front of us. Once the mist had disappeared, I removed the chain from around Al and took in the scene.

A silver patronus doe was running towards us. It dissolved, and it wasn’t any less fascinating than the last time I had seen it. I spun around and saw my best friend curled up against the window. Al turned around slowly to see Keeley, in tears, on the floor. He knelt down and tried to remove the hair obscuring her face.

His hand went straight through her, but his eyes widened in shock. He yanked his hand away and faced me, shaking.

“what?” I asked him slightly annoyed he wasn’t crying for Keeley to forgive him.

“I…..I can hear what she’s thinking and……and I felt, what she was feeling” He stuttered.

I looked at him, confused. I never thought this could happen. From what I had read, Dumbledore’s pensive didn’t do anything like that.

For proof I put my hand on Keeley’s arm. It went through, and I could feel her pain, and it sent tears to my eyes. I was about to remove my hand, but I could hear something in my head.

Why? Why doesn’t he like me? How can I keep up with all my work? Where is my mum? Will my dad every wake up?

At that moment I really felt for Keeley. She had so many unanswered questions. I took my hand back and shook my head trying to dislodge the tears from my eyes.

Albus yanked me up, looking slightly deranged. “How long has her dad been……in St Mungo‘s?” He blurted.

His question took me off guard. “erm…. It has to coming close to 3 months now.” I admitted truthfully, shocked that he didn’t know.

He took in the information then screwed up his face in concentration, calculating something.

“I want to go back. Now” Albus said in a deadly monotoned voice.

Agreeing I put the chain back over him and removed the memory.

The locket started humming again and everything that had happened before, happened again- but in reverse.

Chapter 6: The Reflected Killing Curse
[View Online]  [Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

Hey guys! just a quick note to say that the chapters from now on are from Keeley's POV,unless i tell you otherwise!
Thanks for reading.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I twisted my hands into my hair and let my head hit my knees. I had just received a letter from the aurors who were trying to find out what happened to my house and father. They had discovered that a timed avarda kedevra curse had been placed on him. With this new information St Mungos were giving my dad only 3 days to live. The piece of parchment fell to the floor slowly, drifting as if it didn’t want to reach the floor.

It touched down and Rose looked up from the potions essay she was currently working on. She looked between me and the letter.

I didn’t lift my head, instead I waited for my eyes to fill with dewy tears, but I felt empty, as if I had already cried myself dry. I didn’t understand why I didn’t feel any upset, I searched deep inside myself for some reaction to the news. Finally I found something. A fiery surge of anger burst forth, filling my whole body with the want for revenge. I could feel myself quivering with unshed rage.

I slowly lifted my head up to see Rose reading the letter, concern clear on her face. Without warning I snapped.

“Give it back” I said slowly, trying to wrench the letter from her hands.

“I‘m so sorry Keeley” Rose said letting go of the letter, getting up and trying to pull me into her arms, in comfort.

I jerked away and screamed “Shut up! You don’t know how it feels. My parents are dead. I have no family!”

Rose was stood one hand outstretched looking as if I had just slapped her around the face. For once I didn’t care.

I screamed out of pure fury and stormed out of the room, pushing firsts years out my way as I went.

“Hey look its Keeley” I heard someone sneer from behind me.

I turned around to see Carna and her friends all smirking at me, an evil glint in their eyes.

“what do you slag’s want?” I asked through gritted teeth.

They all turned and looked at each other. Carna looked simply delighted, as if she had come up with something extremely clever.

“We all just wanted to know how the whole ‘bi-polar’ thing was going!” She replied innocently.

I wasn’t bi-polar, but the rational still inside me knew that it was a fair assumption, considering I was overly happy one moment, then crying the next.

But I didn’t want to be rational. I was too angry for that.

With a slash of my wand a suit of armour had pinned Carna up against a wall, her toad like face, was contorted with fear.

I pressed my wand to her throat.

“Don’t you DARE talk to me, you whore, because I‘m not in a good mood and I could do some serious damage” I snarled in her ear.

She knew I wasn’t kidding.

“Keeley! What are you doing” Shouted Albus, running up to me and lowering my wand.

The suit of armour let Carna go with a clatter of metal and resumed its position against the wall.

I turned around to face Al with daggers for eyes. He looked extremely wary.

“Keeley, I heard what happened, I’m so sorry, I‘m here for you” He offered holding out his hand, similar to what rose had done.

I looked at his hand as if it was dirt then attempted to walk away, but I was hit in the back of the head with a something. I felt as if my whole world was spinning then I tasted blood and everything went black.

I awoke to the feel of itchy woollen blankets and a sickly sweet smell, mixed with some form of bleach. Slowly I opened my eyes, but everything around me was dark, at first I though I had gone blind, but then I realised it must be night time. There was a thin beam of light coming from the crack of an open door.

I pulled myself, so that I was sitting, but had to grab the sides of the bed for support. I couldn’t concentrate on anything for any amount of time, without feeling sick.

As my eyes got used to the dark everything came into focus, it appeared that I was alone in the hospital wing. There was a lamp and clock on the bedside table and the light was coming from Madame Pomfrey’s office.

I thought I could hear some voices coming from the open door so I strained my ears, trying find out what they were saying.

“It turns out one of the students aimed the killing curse at her” a warm, but concerned voice said.

“the killing curse?!” a man, by the sound of it, exclaimed.

“Yes, but it reflected off the suit of armour, then hit her.”

“Oh!”

“yes, the poor dear was hit right in the back of the head. She‘s lucky to be alive.”

I reached up a hand to my head and discovered it was wrapped in bandages. I leant forward and grabbed the clipboard at the end of my bed, took my wand from the bedside table and created a light. I held the light over the writing and read what it said:

Name: Keeley Rosenthal

School year: 5

Reason for admission: Hit in the head with a reflected killing curse.

Panic started to course through my veins, making me feel more nauseous than before. I lent over the bed then dry heaved until Madame Pomfrey came out her office and lay me back down.

She placed a hand on my head and removed it suddenly, as if burnt.

From the air she conjured up a thermometer and shoved it in my mouth. Taking the reading she clucked disapprovingly.

“Keeley sweetie, can you hear me?” She asked

I went to reply but my tongue felt heavy, so I nodded feebly. She took in my answer in and rushed off to her office. When she returned she held a beaker of steaming liquid. As she brought it closer I could smell it. It smelt like the boys toilets. I resisted the urge to gag.

“Now I want you to drink this Keeley, it‘ll help bring your temperature down” She explained holding out the vile concoction.

I lifted my arm and took the cup. The medicine sloshed about precariously, threatening to slop over the edge. I brought my mouth to the rim on the cup and gulped it down.

Once the cup had emptied I handed it back and let my head sink into the soft pillow.

“well done chick” she said, patting me gently then going back to her office.

I watched her go sullenly, wishing I had someone to keep me company. I wished Rose was with me, then I remembered. She must hate me for what I said. I sent my patronus telling her how sorry I was and waited for a reply.

I waited 45 minutes before I truly let the realisation of the fact that my best friend hated me sink in.

Just as I was about to drift off to sleep, the hospital door creaked open and someone crept in. With a burst of joy I realised it was Rose. She tiptoed over to my bed and slid into the bed next to me and rolled over so that we were facing.

“I‘m so sorry Rose” I whispered, aware of how much I must have hurt her.

She shook her head and replied “No don’t be, I shouldn’t have read the letter without your permission in the first place.”

I was shocked at her kindness and felt as if I didn’t deserve her as a friend. I smiled then feel into an undisturbed sleep.

--------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I woke up in the morning to find Rose gone. There was however a note on my bedside table. It read:

I’ll come see you at break and after lessons have finished.

I felt so much better than I did yesterday night. My limbs ached a little and my head was throbbing, but I no longer felt nauseous.

After much thumb twiddling, I realised how bored I was going to be. Madame Pomfrey would come and see me at around 8am, but according to the clock it was only 6:00am. I didn’t want to go back to sleep as I wasn’t tired and felt as if I had, had too much rest.

My eyes were drawn to a folded pile of clothes at the end of my bed. By the looks of things it was my grey jogging bottoms and my white zebra top. I grabbed the heavy grey material of the trousers and checked the enlarged pockets for something to do.

After a little searching I came across a variety of things; hair grips, folded piece of paper and of course some smooth round stones. Suddenly my hand encountered a hardback book, intrigued I pulled it out, not aware of having put a book in that pocket. The cover was blue and other than that not very special. I looked at the spine and saw it was a copy of Eragon. I had been looking for that book for ages. In fact I thought Al had stolen it!

Happy, I opened the book up and began to read.

“I see someone‘s feeling better today” Madame Pomfrey commented, placing a tray on my lap. I looked away from my book expecting to see something edible. Unfortunately I saw that the tray held 5 different potions, in a variety of colours.

“urm…where exactly is my breakfast?” I questioned looked at the concoctions with disdain.

“Breakfast? Oh no, you cant eat anything solid!” She chuckled.

I looked miserably at coloured liquids. One by one I bolted down the medicines until, eventually, they were all gone.

“so when can I actually eat something?” I questioned hopefully.

“Sorry Keeley, but you can’t eat anything solid until at least Wednesday” Madame Pomfrey said picking up the tray and going to check on the boy who had steam coming out of his ears, and was whistling like a kettle.

Wednesday! It was Monday today! I sighed, at least the potions filled you up.

“But those clothes are for you to change into, I thought that the hospital gown, might be a bit too…..revealing” She called

I looked down at myself. She was right. Other than some thin pieces of material sewn together on either side, to make a crude nighty, and a pair of pants, I was completely naked.

Ignoring her, I then picked up my book and carried on where I left off.

At 10:30am Rose strolled in, as she said she would, with books pilled up to her chin. They wobbled precariously, until she let them topple onto my bed. Then sat next to me.

“I thought you might like some more reading material” She said in a way of explanation.

“Thanks, its so boring in here! AND I‘m not aloud to eat till Wednesday!” I exclaimed, earning a curious glance from kettle boy.

Rose looked horrified. She loved her food. Although she didn’t eat breakfast, she made up for in later in the day.

“But that’s 2 days away!” She nearly shouted in hysterics.

I laughed, even though it triggered a coughing fit. It felt good to laugh again.

After Rose talked me through what I had missed, which wasn’t much, she left to go find the boys before her next lesson, promising to come and see me as soon as she could.

Before she left she handed me a black round stone, that fit perfectly in the palm of my hand.

I smiled gratefully. I placed the stone on the table next to my wand. That was one of the many amazing things about Rose. She collected stones for me.

At 12:30 Madame Pomfrey came and gave me another 5 potions for ‘lunch’. After that nothing eventful happened till lessons had finished.

However in that time I surveyed the hospital wing. The walls were a cheery blue, similar to that of the sky on a really nice day. The floor was polish wood and each bed had silver railing, which was polished to the extreme. The door which visitors could enter from was facing the beds, which were in neat rows and directly opposite me. The door to Madame Pomfrey’s office was to the left of the visitors door, it had a window, so that she could keep an eye on her patients.

At 7:30pm a sobbing Rose entered and threw herself onto the bed. I patted her head and was about to ask what was wrong when Al entered. At the sight of him I stiffened. I still wasn’t happy with him.

He saw me and slowly made his way over, as if he didn’t know what to do.

“um hi” He said awkwardly scuffing his toe against the floor.

“Hi” I replied bluntly.

For a moment there was a really awkward silence, which was interrupted by a particularly loud wail from Rose.

Remembering she was there I said “what’s wrong?”

Rose didn’t answer, but Albus did.

“Scorpius is going out with Esther” He explained.

Upon hearing this Rose cried even louder.

“NO!” I shouted in response.

Scorpius loved Rose. It was obvious from the way he always had his arm around her, or the fact they were always together. I was completely shocked.

“It‘s ok Rosie, everything will be fine” I murmered, stroking her red hair.

Al gestured for me to budge up, I did only because I was cold and the more people near me, the warmer I would get. So I moved a little to the right.

Al sat on the bed next to me then pulled the covers over him. I was painfully aware that he was pressed right against me, due to the lack of space. I mentally kicked myself for not changing into my clothes, as Madame Pomfrey had suggested.

Trying to ignore that fact, I continued to comfort Rose. Al joined in and for a split second I had a vision of Al and I comforting our child. This image disappeared as soon as it had come, leaving me a little shaken. It was such a nice idea. Al and me, with a child. We would have such cute kids. I was completely side tracked, and was brought back to reality with…

“Keeley, I think she has fallen asleep”

I looked at Rose and saw Al was right.

“Rosie?” I said, shaking my friend awake.

She blinked her eyes sleepily and made a few grunts.

“You fell asleep. I think you ought to go back to dorm” I said slowly, so that she would understand.

Rose got up and sluggishly left the room.

I was now alone with Albus Potter.

As soon as the door had shut behind Rose, Al turned to look at me and a reached for my hand. Reluctantly I let him have it. He cradled my right hand in both of his, which meant I had to turn so that I was facing him.

“I‘m really sorry Keeley” Al mumbled, stroking the back of my hand with his thumb.

When I didn’t say anything he continued.

“I‘m so sorry you thought that I wanted to sleep with you”

My head began to throb and I felt my features twist into a grimace.

“NO! I don’t mean I don’t want to have sex with you. I do.” He kept rambling on, tripping over his words and digging himself deeper holes, but I began to lose focus. My head really did hurt.

“Its ok Al I forgive you” I said my words mushing together so it probably sounded like this: ’izzokalifogivooo’.

He seemed to noticed something was wrong, because he felt my head and yelped “Keeley you‘re burning up!”

This confused me because I was actually rather cold. In fact I began to shiver in uncontrollable convolutions, my teeth chattering.

Al looked scared.

“Keeley, where is Madame Pomfrey?” he asked urgently.

I willed my lips to form words “shee wen oo see Muhgonaaagol” I whispered, coughing feebly.

“Will she be back soon?” he cried despairingly.

I thought back to when Poppy Pomfrey had left. “shee said shee‘d be an hour oops” I whimpered.

Al thought for a moment then said “you always drilled into me that the body often knows what its doing” He paused “so if your body‘s telling you its cold, we‘ll keep you warm. Oh but we can’t let you get dehydrated”

He pulled a me into his arms and let me rest my head on his chest, then acciod a blanket, which he threw over us, a jug of water and a beaker.

I kept drifting into a fitful sleep, then I’d wake up and Al would help me drink a little water. After what seemed like hours, but in actually fact was only 15 minutes, the shivers that shook my frame died away and I felt a little bit more in control of my body.

“Al?” I whispered, my voice croaky.

“hmm” came his fond reply. He wiped a strand of hair off my forehead and tucked it behind my ear. If I didn’t feel so ill, this moment would have made my day.

“Can yooou keep talking to meee.” I pleaded, my eyes closing.

“Of course. ” Al agreed, lacing his fingers through mine.

In the little sleep I got, the dreams were confusing. The only thing that kept me from despairing was Al’s voice. Even when I was asleep, I could still hear him. He told me of many things.

To start with he talked about how his mum really liked me, then he went on about how he really liked me. Through out the whole thing he was comforting me in one way or another. He would stroke my hair and rub my back. Just knowing someone was there made me feel a lot better.

After what had to be an hour I began to feel uncomfortably hot. I opened my eyes feebly.

“Al, it‘s too hot” I complained quietly.

He peeled off the blanket and covers so that they were at the end of the bed. Then he removed me from himself and gently placed me down. Carefully he got off the bed and stretched.

“Al?” I sighed, my eyes closing again.

“yes?” He answered softly.

“please don‘t leave me” I begged, feeling like a little girl.

Albus sat down on the edge of the bed. But I still felt alone.

“Hold me, like before” I yawned reaching out my hand and held onto his first 2 fingers.

He thought it over then, because he was hot and bothered, transfigured his clothes from trackies to light shorts and a short sleeved top.

I must have sounded really pathetic because he scooped me up and placed me so that he was sat upright, with me lying down, my head resting on his chest.

He picked up my Eragon book and began to read it. The sound of pages turning was oddly comforting and soon I fell into a dreamless sleep.

Chapter 8: Early Release

THIS STORY IS CURRENTLY ABANDONED HOWEVER IF YOU WANT ME TO CONTINUE PLEASE REVIEW AND LET ME KNOW

“Well done Albus, I don’t know what would have happened if you weren’t there! I would have never forgiven myself if she had got worse!”

I was awoken by the loud bustling voice of Poppy Pomfrey and also by the fact my head was resting on something hard.

I opened my eyes, which were still gummed up with sleep, and looked about. I realised the rock like thing my head was resting on, was in fact Al’s chest. As soon as I realised this everything came back to me, even though it was a little fuzzy.

I looked at Poppy.

“what happened?” I asked, my voice hoarse.

Madame Pomfrey and Al both looked at me suddenly

“Keeley, honey, you had a terrible fever last night! If it wasn’t for your young friend here, I’m sure you would be a little worse for wear.” she replied, with something not unlike admiration in her eyes.

I looked at Al, Madame Pomfrey realised she was intruding on a ‘moment’, so hurriedly left.

“Thanks” I admitted, feeling embarrassed.

Al smiled “No problem ‘lee, as long as I‘ve proved to you, I do care about you is all that matters” He paused “oh and of course that you get better soon.”

I smiled. Yes he had proved he cared for me. I mean, how many boys do you know that would let you cuddle up to them when you’re ill, probably sweating like a pig and didn’t look your best?

“thanks though” I said again, not wanted to seem ungrateful.

He squeezed me gently and replied “Well to be honest, this has worked out quite well for me anyway!”

I tilted my head, as I often did when I was confused.

“I get to stay here until Wednesday, in case I caught anything” He gloated, extremely pleased with himself.

I chuckled. “trust me, you wont be thinking yourself lucky by Wednesday”

“oh really? Why is that?” He enquired his eyes taking on a cheeky gleam.

“it is so very boring in here!” I told him, as if it was obvious.

“I don‘t know about boring” He breathed, reaching down and giving me a kiss, to which I pulled away.

He looked a little hurt and puzzled by my reaction.

“AL! I‘m not letting you catch what ever I‘ve got!” I insisted, caressing his face.

“like I care about that!” He replied just as stubborn.

I attempted to keep him at bay, by pushing my hands against his chest. I noticed it was very muscular.

Finally, I gave way, but instead of ‘going in for the kill’, he paused as thinking over what he had to do. Then he hesitantly leant forward and our lips met.

This wasn’t like our first kiss, this one was a lot more gentle. Whether this was because of my ‘illness’ or because he had decided to take things slower, I just didn’t know. But it was nice.

“eh hem” Came the interrupting cough of someone to my left.

Regretfully I broke away and looked up into the beaming face of Rose Weasley.

I blushed, then tried to look away, but I found my friends gaze hard to look away from.

She shot looks between me and Al until finally someone decided to speak.

“It‘s not what it looks like!” Al exclaimed, he then looked at the position we were in. “Ok, it is exactly what it looks like!” By this time he was grinning like a madman.

“Finally!” Rose said, still standing.

“aren‘t you going to sit down?” I asked her.

“No, I don’t want to disturb the cutest couple ever!” she yelled, over the moon.

With that Rose skipped out of the ward and, presumably, off to lessons.

“Are we a couple then?” I wondered out loud.

“hmm….I‘ll think about it” He said in reply.

I hit him playfully on the arm, and crossed my arms over my chest, jutting out my bottom lip, like a sulky child.

“Fine! I hate to see you upset! Of course we are!” He sighed, in mock defeat.

There was a silence, but I didn’t mind, I was content to sit in his arms.

After a while Poppy came out of her office with more potions to drink, obediently, I drunk each one, pulling faces the whole time. She took my temperature, then smiled.

“You’re recovering fast!” She informed me, smiling.

She leant forward and whispered in my ear “Your sudden recovery doesn’t have anything to do with this young man does it?”

I felt my face grow hot, and I knew I must be blushing. With a fond smile, Madame Pomfrey left, leaving me to ponder what she had said.

Rose, who was obsessed with Dumbledore, also said love could heal anything. But did I LOVE Al? as soon as this thought ran through my head, Albus shifted his position, so we were both lying down, facing to the right. He pulled me into his embrace and I felt my heart flutter. This feeling answered my question.

Yes. I was in love with Albus Severus Potter.

I turned around so we were both facing each other. I looked into his beautiful eyes, he looked into mine and I suddenly felt woozy. This was different to the ill feeling. This dizziness felt good in a weird way. Al held my hands and it felt like someone had sent an electric current through my veins. Despite all this, for the first time in ages, I felt at peace.

That night, after Al had moved onto his own bed, Poppy came over and sat on the edge of mine, to do a routine check-up.

“I think someone might be able to be released early!” She told me.

“really?! That would be so good. When would be the earliest I could leave?” I asked her, excitement bubbling up inside me.

“Well, you were due to be released this weekend, but if you carry on recovering at the speed you are, I‘m sure you can go back to school by Wednesday.” Poppy checked her clipboard. “But you‘d have to come to see me every evening, so I can check you wont develop any further illness‘.”

I nearly screamed I was so excited. For no reason other than my excitement I lunged forward and gave Madame Pomfrey a hug. Clumsily she patted my shoulder in return and left.

Once her office door was shut and the blinds pulled, I called over to Al. He was snoring with his mouth wide open.

“Al?” I whisper shouted.

He didn’t respond, but his snoring continued.

I realised that if I made anymore noise, poppy would hear and we would get in trouble. Once lights went out, you had to sleep, it was the rules.

I gave up on trying to get my boyfriends attention (Thinking that he was my boyfriend, made my insides squirm… in a good way though!) and settled for trying to get to sleep by myself. I mean it shouldn’t have been as hard as it was because it’s not as if I always used to fall asleep with someone by my side. Every time I closed my eyes, I’d want to open them again. I couldn’t get in a very comfortable position, so I kept tossing and turning- this made the springs in the bed squeak, which was a painful noise!

In the end I managed to get a little shut eye, but had to wake myself back up because I had a horrible dream about my fathers death.

I lay there twisted up in the sheets, scared and alone. Then I had an idea. I produced a transparent image of me asleep and put it where I was lying. Hopefully it would be enough to keep Madame Pomfrey from checking I was alright.

I crept out of my bed, making sure to bring my wand with me, and quietly snuck over to Albus’ bed, which was at the other end of the room from me. I lifted up the covers and snuggled up to his sleeping form. After that I soon fell asleep.
