Chapter 5: Chapter Five.
What I saw before me was unbelievable, it just wasn't possible. I was in a rather beautiful place, gardens and what not.
The only let down was that it was a cemetery.
And that I was standing in front of my grave.
No-one was here but me and about a hundred other graves. I looked at my tombstone, and it read 'Here lies Rose Jean Weasley. Beloved daughter, friend and sister. 17th of April 2006 - 24th of October 2023.' My head was spinning and I felt sick to the stomach.
I fell to the ground and passed out.
But then I woke up and reality set in once again. I sat up, and looked at the clock. I was late. Supeeeer late. As in halfway through first class late. I shot up out of bed got ready and then realised that today was October the 24th. I didn't have time to freak out, because I was already sprinting to Charms.
'Sorry Professor Flitwick, I overslept,' I mumbled.
'I expect more from you Miss Weasley. You know, your mother was never once late to this class.'
These kind of snide remarks had been said since the day I walked through his classroom and I have had enough.
'Sir, I am not my mother. I have no desire to be like her in any way. My name is Rose. R-o-s-e. Rose. And like any other teenager, I sometimes sleep late by accident. I am not perfect. And believe it or not, but neither is my mother.'
I didn't even regret a word. Flitwick just looked away and continued teaching. Em and Liv gestured for me to join them, but I decided to instead sit with Fred and Daniel.
Even though I was sitting five seats away from him, I could feel his eyes on me.
'Is there something you want to say, Scorpius?' I snapped. He just looked away with no reply.
At lunch Em and Liv were waiting for me and as soon as I sat down, they hounded me with questions, demanding answers. So I simply pushed my plate away, grabbed a bread roll and walked out.
I didn't want to talk today. I don't want to talk most days now. For two weeks, I have barely spoke or been spoken to by Al or Scorpius. I went to go to D.A.D.A, which was next. Today we were having a guest teacher. I suspected it was Uncle Harry.
And I suspected right. Uncle Harry was indeed going to be our teacher today and he announced that we would be doing boggarts. I was so excited and for the first time in weeks, I felt a smile creep up on my face. Boggarts are unusual non-beings, they take the form of one's deepest fear. I had been waiting for this for seven long years.
He brought in a large cupboard that had been home to a boggart for over twenty years now. Everyone lined up in a single file, and we began. It was rather funny watching everyone go and face their fears. But then turn them into a laughing stock. A Slytherin boy's one was that he had received a howler, and when he said 'Riddikulus' it became mute. And then tore itself apart, but not in the usual way, in a suicidal way.
It was freakin' funny.
Scorpius was a couple ahead of me and when it was his turn, he readied his wand. The boggart began to change into- no, that can't be right.
His boggart changed into me. But I wasn't alive, I was bloody all over and my eyes were open. My body was still and emotionless. Scorpius dropped his wand and just stood there. I don't think he was even breathing. He wasn't crying nor blinking. I think he was in shock.
Uncle Harry quickly steered Scorpius out of the way and took him away. Al was after Scorpius and I wasn't paying attention, although I think I saw what looked like Dex holding the Quidditch Cup.
When Uncle Harry came back, Scorpius wasn't with him. And by the time my turn came around. I did not want to face my boggart. I already knew what was going to happen. What I was going to see, and I think everyone else knew as well.
Because everyone went silent.
I decided the boggart wasn't worth it. I stepped out of view from it and turned away.
'What are you doing, Rose?' asked Uncle Harry. I didn't turn back.
'I can't do it. I already know what I'm going to see, and no matter how many times I say 'Riddikulus' it's never going to be funny to me. Give me detention, tell my parents, make me go see McGonagall. I don't care, I'd rather deal with a punishment.'
I waited for him to pick one. But he didn't he just said, 'Next please.' So I walked away.
I had no idea where to go, so I went to the only place I thought of. The Quidditch field. Knowing Scorpius he would have been taken to see Madam Pomfrey but then decided to go elsewhere.
'I thought you'd be here,' I said as I entered the field.
'Why are you here, Rose?' he asked. He was laying down in the middle of the field, staring at the sky.
'Isn't it obvious? I came here because I still care about you. Because no matter what, you'll always be one of my best friends, Scorp. At the end of the day I'd do anything for you.' He stayed silent, so I took his silence as a 'It's time to get the hell out of here.' I stayed for a few seconds longer, but he remained laying down. He didn't move an inch.
So I started to walk away. Again. For the third god-damned time today. Until I heard footsteps, and then he was right behind me.
He looked like he was going to say something, he stopped, opened his mouth, shut it and kept walking. I felt like running after him. Screaming 'I'm sorry!' at the top of my lungs. But I couldn't bring myself to.
At dinner, I decided it was time to speak to Em and Liv. That it wasn't fair to ignore them, they had done nothing wrong. But they weren't at the Hall, so I looked for them everywhere, but they were not to be found.
By the time I gave up, dinner was over and I went back to my dorm. Of course, Em and Liv were sitting out the front.
'Where have you guys been, I've been looking for an hour and a half!'
'Waiting for you, duh,' said Em.
'Do you want to come in?' I asked. They nodded so we went in and sat on the lounge.
'I know I've been really bitchy lately and I've been ignoring you, but I'm really sorry.'
'That's good, because we have a problem,' said Em.
'What kind of problem?' I asked. Liv was looking ill.
And then Em explained that Liv's 'hot Hufflepuff' never existed. She made him up to throw us off who she really likes. Albus. But it's a problem because Al likes Janelle. Yes, you heard correctly, my own cousin likes the best friend of the slut who tried to kill Scorpius. But wait, theres more. Em and Liv don't know this, but over the past two weeks, I've gotten really close to Daniel. And he told me that he fancied Liv. So it was really awkward.
I sent Em and Liv away after an hour. We talked about everything, not just the above catastrophe but about Scorpius and Fred. But not about D.A.D.A today.
I was brushing my teeth when I heard something move in Scorpius' room. I put down my toothbrush, washed my mouth out and started turning his doorknob every so silently, whilst readying my wand. I pushed the door open and pointed it at the person.
'Scorpius? What the hell are you doing here?' I asked. I lowered my wand and walked in a bit more.
'Last time I checked Rose, I live here.' Smartarse.
'But, I never heard or saw the door open for the whole hour I was here. How did you get- wait.' I put two and two together and realised Scorpius was in the dorm well before I was. And that he heard everything.
'You heard. You heard everything didn't you?' He moved uncomfortably to the side.
'Well, yes. But don't worry Liv's secret is safe with me.'
'You little git. You could've came out, there were things I said that I did not want you to know,' I cried.
'I couldn't just stroll out because by the time I knew you were out there Emma had just said that Olivia likes Al. And she would've flipped out.' He was right, but that most certainly did not excuse him.
'Why didn't you talk about today?' he asked.
'They didn't want to mention it, because of what happened after you left.'
'What was that exactly?'
'I- I couldn't do it. Face the boggart I mean, I already knew what I was going to see. And I wasn't going to see it in person. So I said that any punishment was better than having to stick around and see that. And I walked out to find you. And then you brushed me. And then I missed dinner. And then I -'
I stopped myself. And I went back to my room. Slamming my door on the way.
The next morning, I went down to breakfast early. And when the Hall was full, the mail came in. It was only Wednesday and Mum and Dad write me on Thursday so I didn't expect to get anything.
Until it dropped on my head.
My heart began hammering against my chest. It was from my father and to my surprise it was a howler, and for some odd reason I didn't think it was going to go mute. I opened it.
'ROSE JEAN WEASLEY, HOW DARE YOU EMBARRASS YOUR FAMILY LIKE THIS! A MALFOY?! WHAT DID I ALWAYS SAY TO YOU, DON'T ASSOCIATE WITH THAT MALFOY BOY. IT'S BAD ENOUGH YOUR COUSINS ARE HIS BEST FRIENDS. DO YOU KNOW WHAT HIS FAMILY HAS DONE TO OURS? AND YOUR UNCLE HARRY'S? IF YOU EVER TALK TO THAT BOY AGAIN YOU'LL BE GOING TO BEAUXBATONS FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY 'SORRY.' And then it ripped itself apart.
I wasn't crying, I knew this would happen eventually, and my father has got every right to be angry. After what Scorpius' family did to ours, I would be surprised if he wasn't pissed.
But then I looked over to the entrance and Scorpius was walking over. Again, he had heard something he shouldn't have. He sat down in front of me next to a shocked Fred and Al.
It was Albus who spoke first, 'He had no right to send that to you, you can date whomever you want, Rose.'
'Al, it's okay. Really.'
Halfway through breakfast, McGonagall called for silence.
'Students, as you know the Halloween Feast is coming up, and we teachers thought that we would also have a Halloween Ball type of thing. Dressing up is compulsory, and so is going. That is all.'
A ball. A motherfreakin' ball.
Sweet Merlin, save my soul.
A/N; Hey guys, I'm more sorry than eveerrrrr about the wait. I had absolutely no idea what to write until a couple of days ago. I actually really like this chapter. And I hope you do too! Please leave me a review, I accept constructive critisicm and I like to know if I've made any mistakes! <3
Disclaimer: As usual I do not own Harry Potter, or the idea of the scene with the boggart. Because if you've read the books, you'll know Molly comes across a boggart and sees Fred and others like that as well. :)
