Chapter 11: Friendly Competition
The next day everyone knew about me and Blaise. We had decided that since we were no longer hiding it from Draco it didn't need to be a secret anymore. People were shocked and they talked and whispered and pointed, but I could care less.
For the first time I was actually feeling like I could get over Draco and it was going to be at least a little easy. But that was before I heard that Draco dumped Tara...to get me back.
"Why did you break up with her?" I asked dragging Draco away from all the people so we could talk in private.
"Because I want you back. I don't want her and I don't love her." Draco answered.
I was a little caught off guard. "What do you mean you don't love her? I heard you tell her."
"Jo, I only said that to make you jealous. You were going to Hogsmeade alone with Blaise and I was jealous. And I saw you with him laughing for the first time in a while and I was angry that it wasn't me making you laugh like that, so I just said it." He explained.
I shook my head. "Are you kidding me? You were jealous? How do you think I felt when you left me for another girl?!" I asked angrily.
"I didn't leave you Jo, you left me. Don't forget that." He said quietly.
"Well you cheated on me with another girl. I was jealous as hell, but you didn't see me running around telling other guys I loved them, did you?"
"What about Blaise?" He asked.
"For the millionth time, Draco, I'm not dating Blaise to get back at you." I said. "Otherwise you would have known we were dating. But we kept it a secret because we didn't want you to know what was going on. Blaise didn't want to hurt you. He's a good friend you know."
Draco shook his head. "A good friend would never date their best friends ex girlfriend. Especially behind their back that's just wrong."
"You didn't seem to think it was wrong when you and I were dating behind Pansy's back in fifth year. And it was worse because you were still with Pansy, so don't try that you hypocrite." I said.
"That was different, Jo. We're in love with eachother." He said.
"Blaise loves me." I said.
"Do you love him back?" He questioned.
I shifted slightly. "Not yet, but I will soon. Blaise is very easy to fall in love with and-"
"I'd rather not hear about how lovely Blaise is, thank you." Draco said bitterly.
"You asked." I said.
"I know..." he trailed off and we were silent for a few moments. "You know I can't live without you, Jo."
"You've been doing it since we broke up." I said.
"That wasn't living, Jolina. That was me thinking about you every second. Pretending it was you I was kissing instead of Tara. Hoping everyday that that day would be the day you forgive me and take me back. Being scared you would never love me again. That's what my life is without you and that's not living at all." He said.
"I didn't want it to be this way, you know." I said, my voice cracking. "I wanted us to be together forever. I wanted to marry you and have kids with you and grow old with you."
"You can still do that. We can still have that life." Draco insisted.
"But we can't. It's been tainted and ruined and I'm scared to trust you again. Because this time no one was blackmailing you. This time no one forced you to cheat on me. You did it yourself. And you could do it again." I wiped the tears from my cheeks.
"But I won't. I would never make that mistake again." He said.
"But I can't trust that. And a relationship without trust isn't a relationship at all." I said.
"What can I do to gain your trust back? I'll do it, whatever it is." He said.
"Draco there are just some things that can't be fixed. I think this one of these things...I-I don't think you can gain my trust back."
"But I have to, Jolina. You don't understand. You don't know what it's like living like this...it's torture." He said quietly.
I sighed. But before I could actually respond a pair of arms wrapped around me. "Hey, babe is everything okay?" Blaise asked.
"Yeah, everything is fine. Draco was just leaving." I said looking at Draco.
"No, I wasn't." Draco said. "I was just telling Jo that I still loved her and I'm gonna win her back."
"Draco, you've always been my best mate and for years I've watched you treat Jolina like shit, but now that she's mine, I'm never letting you hurt her again. You're not winning her back just so you can hurt her all over again." Blaise said.
"I don't treat her like shit! I treat her like she's everything to me!" Draco protested.
"Cheating on her, ignoring her, lying to her. Oh yeah, it really sounds like you treat her like she's everything!" Blaise countered.
"I made a mistake. Don't act like you're perfect." Draco spat.
"I'm not, but I sure as hell have never hurt Jolina and I don't plan on it either."
"Right. You didn't help Pansy hurt both me and Jo right?" Draco asked.
Blaise narrowed his eyes. "I didn't have a choice, okay. You did."
"Do you think I planned on it? You think I wanted to hurt her? That was the last thing I wanted to do."
"Didn't stop you though, did it?" Blaise asked.
"Guys, just stop!" I said. "Look, Draco, I'm sorry, but I'm with Blaise now. You lost me and you can't get me back."
"We'll see about that." Draco said before stalking off angrily. I sighed.
"What do you think he's gonna do?" Blaise asked me.
"I have no idea, but whatever it is, this will not end well at all."
I paced back and forth. I was nervous after the argument with Draco. I knew that Draco loved Jolina more than anything in this entire world and he would stop at nothing to get her back. What I was scared of is that he might actually get her back.
No matter how much Jolina says she's over Draco, I know she's not. She still lights up when she's around him. I know it's not her fault, she can't help she's still in love with him, but it worries me. He's won her back before, he can do it again.
I smile to myself thinking of Jolina. She was absolutely perfect and she was all mine. For once I got the girl. For once I beat Draco at something. The way Jolina rejected Draco today is actually making me think she'll stay with me and not go back to him.
But Draco had a look of pure determination on his face, so I still have to he cautious. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to keep Jolina safe and happy with me. I would never break her heart the way he did. Never.
"Is everything okay, babe?" Jolina asked me.
I snapped back into reality. Again my thoughts were on Draco and his plan to steal Jolina from me.
"Yeah, yeah, everything is fine." I said.
"Are you sure? I've been talking to you for the last five minutes and I don't think you heard a word I said."
"I'm sorry. I was just thinking." I said.
"About what?" She asked.
Um...nothing." I lied.
"You can tell me Blaise." She said putting her hand over mine.
I sighed. "About Draco and everything."
"You don't have to worry about him. He's not taking me away from you, I promise." Jolina said.
"I know. I guess I'm just worried about what lengths he'll go to in order to try to get you back. He's pretty desperate." I said quietly.
"You let me handle that, okay? I convinced him to let me go once, I think I can do again." She said confidently.
"He seems so determined, though." I said.
"Well, I'm determined too. I'm determined to not go back to him and stay with you." Jolina smiled. "Because I know you would never hurt me."
"I wouldn't." I whispered, leaning closer to her.
"And I would never hurt you either." She said.
"I know." I grinned. Then I kissed her. For so many years I had fantasied about what it would be like to kiss her and now I get to do it every day. It's seriously a dream come true.
And I wasn't going to let Draco ruin my dream...
I'm desperate. I have to get Jo back. If I don't, I'm not sure what I'll do. I'll lose my mind or something. But it's gonna be a lot harder than I thought it would be. Today's argument with Blaise proved that. I would just need some help. I couldn't do it alone...
This probably isn't my best idea, but I know she'll help me. Or I hope she will.
"Um, hey Tara." I said as I approached her. She looked surprised.
"Uh, hi, Draco...what's up?" She asked.
"I..." I sighed. "I need your help. And I know the last thing you want to do is help me, but I really need you." I said.
"You hurt me." She whispered.
"I know." I whispered back. "And I'm sorry. I was just so upset that I lost Jo and I took it out on you. I'm so sorry."
"You really love her, huh?" Tara asked.
"More than anything." I answered.
"And let me guess, if I help you, you'll get her back?"
"That's what I'm hoping."
"But she's with Blaise." She pointed out."
"I know, but I don't care. She's my everything and I need her to live." I said.
"Oh alright, I'll help you. But for a price of course." Tara said.
"I'll give you whatever you want...within reason, of course." I said.
Tara smirked and stuck out her hand. "Then we have a deal."
I took her hand and shook it. I was gonna win Jo back if it's the last thing I do.
