Chapter 10
Waking up, I found myself alone in the Hospital wing and I froze. I wasn’t meant to be alone. Sitting up, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.

“Hello?” I called out but I could hear nothing. Just silence.

Until there it was.

Footsteps drawing nearer to my bed, I blindly felt for my wand as I kept my eyes alert but I couldn’t find it. Turning to look on the bedside table, I heard a faint laugh and I stilled.

“Looking for this?” Lucius stepped out from the shadows, a smirk on his face. And then one by one, they all appeared; Bella, Evan, Pedro, Rayne and Bas, like vultures surrounding its prey before it dies. I was completely defenceless and I knew that no one was around. They wouldn’t have left that to chance. I was on my own and I was going to die. Personally, I thought I would have lasted longer than 2 days but they had other plans, clearly.

“Poor, defenceless princess, what is she going to do?” Bella’s voice was mocking and it was strange to be on the receiving end of it, I now knew how her victims felt when she taunted them for laughs.

“Scared, Gisela? You should be.” Evan’s words made me shiver. His eyes were dark and he looked menacing in the candle light. “You don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into.” He edged closer to me, so close, I could feel his breath on my neck. “I’m going to have fun with you.” He licked his lips before backing away.

As my eyes turned to Pedro, he said nothing to me at first. Then after a couple of minutes, he found his voice.

“You betrayed me. You’re meant to be my twin, my closest friend yet you ran away from me. I will never forgive you for that.” His words stung as he spat them out. I had betrayed him but only because he betrayed me first.

Then it was Rayne’s turn. “I don’t know how I was ever friends with you. You’re pathetic and weak and a traitor. I hate you, we all hate you. And we can’t wait to the Dark Lord kill you.”

And there was that word again. Traitor. That stung me more than being threatened with death. I guess it was a word I had to get used to.

Just when I thought their mind games had finished, Bas stepped forward. I couldn’t look at him, it hurt me to look at him.

“I loved you. I loved you so much and you betrayed me. You left me.” I felt him near me and then his finger was under my chin, bringing me to look at him. “I hate you.”

My eyes filled with tears as he spoke the words and then there was noise. Bella’s manic laughing filled the air and then I heard a chilling voice.

“I’m going to have fun playing with you, my dear.”

It was then I finally screamed.

“Gisela, Gisela, wake up!” My eyes flew open and I struggled for breath. Looking around frantically, I saw Madame Pomfrey standing at her desk, looking at me worryingly and then I saw Sirius, half asleep but alert at the same time, a worried look on his face too.

“Are you okay, Miss Martinez?”

I nodded and let out a shaky breath. “Yes, Madame Pomfrey. It was just a nightmare.”

Satisfied with my answer, she walked away and I concentrated on getting my breathing back to normal. Once my heart wasn’t threatening to break free of my rib cage, I turned to Sirius, who was looking at me.

“I dreamt they were in here. You and everyone else were gone and they were here. And then he was here and then I woke up. I’m fine.”

Sirius didn’t look convinced but he didn’t push it. “You want breakfast?”

I shook my head. “I don’t think I could keep it down, if I’m being honest.”

He nodded in understanding and we stayed there in silence. The tension between us was unbearable and most of it was because I was stubborn and refused to acknowledge that he had been trying to save me from the very beginning. From September 1st, if I remembered correctly our first meeting when he told me to ‘watch my back’. And from that point on, he had done everything to try and get me to see sense but I was stupid enough and far too proud to let a Gryffindor tell me what to do. I hadn’t stayed with them to get back at Sirius but a little part of me felt like I had done it so he could see that I didn’t listen to him and that I didn’t want to listen to him.

It was stupid but I was a Slytherin and no Slytherin took orders/advice/warnings from a Gryffindor.

“I’m not apologising for not listening to you.”

“I didn’t expect you too, you are a snake afterall.”

“You’re so full of it, Black. You forget you were brought up the exact same way I was so don’t try and act all high and mighty when we both know you’re not. You’re exactly like me.”

He was about to protest when the door opened and in walked Professor Dumbledore.

“Miss Martinez, you look much better this morning, I must say. I am here to talk to you about your arrangements.”

“Arrangements?”

“Yes, your living arrangements to be exact. You can’t go back to you dormitory now, I fear you would not make it out alive if I sent you back. I wish to put you in the Gryffindor tower and see how you fare.”

If I had had a drink, I would have spat it out. “Are you serious? You want to put me with a bunch of morons who hate my guts. I think I would take my chances in the Slytherin common room.”

“Your sister is doing just fine there.”

“Lola is different. She’s…nice. I don’t know how but she is. I am the opposite of Lola, in fact I am on the other end of the scale to Lola.”

Dumbledore laughed. “You put yourself down Miss Martinez, but I happen to know how nice you can be when you want to be.”

I raised an eyebrow at this and waited for him to elaborate. “I believe you helped a certain Mr Lupin when he fainted in the library. Albeit, you were alone but still, you helped him. You are not as mean as you say you are and I believe Mr Lupin would vouch for you. He has said you have had many civilised conversations with him.”

I groaned at this. I knew being civil to Lupin would come back to haunt me.

“You talk with Moony?” Sirius seemed astonished I had the ability to speak to people other than my housemates.

“Yes, but only a few times. I actually find Lupin interesting. He’s quite smart and I can have an intelligent conversation with him.” The words came out rushed and I then turned to Professor Dumbledore. “Please, you can’t do this. Are there no private rooms available? I have my own personal bank, I will pay you anything.”

“Typical Slytherin, trying to buy their way out of a situation they can’t handle. Scared Martinez?”

At this I froze. He was challenging me and I hated being challenged. I couldn’t turn them down, pride would not let me.

“Of course not, just uncomfortable at the thought of being around goody-two shoes’ all day, every day. It makes me feel nauseous.” I ended this with a smirk and he growled.

“Well, don’t think your presence is exactly pleasant for us. I think everyone in the Gryffindor tower has at least plotted your death once.”

“Mr Black, as entertaining as this exchange is, I must ask you to refrain from talking. You are doing nothing to help Miss Martinez see my way of thinking.”

“I will never see your way of thinking, Sir. I am sorry but there must be another way, surely?”

He looked at me almost apologetically and I groaned. “Great, a whole 8 months without sleep for fear someone will kill me if I close my eyes, it’s not like any of you Gryffindor’s would dare do it if I was awake.” This last part was directed at Sirius, who was furious.

Before he could reply, Professor McGonagall burst into the room, her heels echoing with each step.

“What is it, Minerva?”

“There has been a serious incident on the third floor.” This seemed to mean something to Professor Dumbledore as he stood up and began walking to the door. “I will be back later to escort you to your new common room and dormitory, Miss Martinez. Until then.” He disappeared out of sight and I put my head in my hands.

This could not be happening.

“Guess you better get ready for some hexes coming your way, you know, pay back for all the times you have hexed your new, fellow housemates.” Sirius stood up, shooting one last smirk before leaving too.

I was in for treat.

Suddenly facing the Slytherin lot didn’t seem as bad compared to what I was going to prepare myself for. It was going to be a long 8 months.
