[View Online] I had found my way back to Draco's bed in a daze, lost in thought. I tried sleeping but that just wouldn't happen. Finally around 12:20, Draco came in the door of his room. “Hey there, sicky.” He smiled at me. I hadn't even heard him come in to the apartment, I must have dozed off. I was happy to see him but also couldn't get that picture out of my mind. I smiled at him, despite being confused about what I had found in his office. “Hello, how was work?” “It was...work. You know?” He shrugged and lifted up a brown paper bag. Food! My stomach growled at seeing the bag. “Yeah I do. So what did you bring me to eat?” I hinted, I was actually starving. “Soup and crackers...and cookies.” He smiled. “Do you want to have this in bed or out in the kitchen?” Laying in bed would be nice but...“No, the table is fine.” I would probably spill the liquid all over his bed. I pulled the comforter off of me slowly. I finally noticed what I was wearing, a plain white tank of mine and gray sweatpants of his. Yeah, that's sexy. Well...he also heard me vomit this morning so all hope of being attractive to him was long gone. I stood up quickly, eager to get my food, too quickly. Ah, head rush. The room spun around me. "Whoa there, I think it's best if you just stay in bed." Draco said, steadying me. I just nodded in agreement and sat on the bed. He just shook his head from side to side, laughing to himself as he took out the container of soup, the package of salted crackers, and a small plastic bag of two cookies. I had never liked him more than I did right then. I demolished the soup in about 5 seconds flat. He simply smiled at me. I was starving and oh so thankful for the food. After finishing he picked up the food containers. “Are you feeling any better? Did you just sleep while I was gone?” He smiled at me. “I'm fine.” I mumbled. "You seem quiet. Does your throat hurt? It's unlike you to be this quiet." He seemed concerned. He was absentmindedly playing with my hair as my head nestled into his chest. I needed to know if my theories on the picture were true. Did he have a secret daughter? "Uh....Draco..." I started, not looking him the eyes. "I did something bad." "Did you?" He seemed unconvinced that I actually did anything. "Well I kind of abused the free reign of the house you gave me." I said in a small voice. This peaked his interest and he pulled me around to face him. "What did you do? What did you find?" He asked calmly, he wasn’t angry. He also didn't seem like he was afraid of me finding anything. "Why...were you hiding something?" I asked, just wanting to know how he was so calm about someone saying they had snooped through their house. If someone told me that my mind would instantly think of every little thing I wouldn't want people to see. I didn't have too much but there are a few personal things I'd like to keep personal. He laughed at me. "No Hermione. If I were hiding something do you think I would let you roam around? I kind of figured you'd snoop honestly." "Hey!" He knew me too well. " I don't normally snoop." I lied. I loved snooping, I loved knowing things about people, things they didn't want others to know. It was fun. He saw right through me. "Yeah, okay!" He chuckled. "Hermione you are such a nosy little thing. But you know what they say, curiosity killed the cat. So what's killing you, kitten?" He winked at me. He always had these cutesy pet names for me. Normally I hated pet names, hated. They just sounded so good coming out of Draco's mouth. They always sent a shot of warmth through me when he said something. "Kitten" was new, most likely just a one time thing, a play on words. I gave him an uneasy smile. "I was in your home office." I trailed off not wanting to ask the next question. "And....I saw this picture." "Which?" He smiled. "Is it weird that I have pictures of us, or you?" His smiled faltered. He looked like he was a child who had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "Oh no!" I cuddled closer to him. "I thought that was pretty adorable actually." He smiled at that and kissed the top of my head. I knew he was waiting for me to go on about what was bothering me. "So I saw this picture in your office that was of a little girl and it made me wonder why you would have that and the only conclusion that I came up with is that you have a daughter but put her in foster care, since the place looked like a foster home, but you feel guilty so you kept the picture but I don't know I'm just confused what am I even saying ahh!" I basically screamed in one large run on sentence. He was quiet for a century, okay I'm sure it was only like 30 seconds but it felt like so much longer. He finally spoke. "Hermione!" He exclaimed. Then he started laughing, quite loudly. "Of course I don't have a daughter! I don't have any children. Don't you think I would have told you? I tell you pretty much everything. Or don't you think those nosy magazines would have told everyone about that yet?" He rolled his eyes playfully at me. 'Well I don't know!" I exclaimed back. Well at least that was a relief. “Wait...you said you thought I put her in foster care? “ He shook his head slowly back and forth. “If I did have a daughter, which I don't, I would never put them in foster care. I'd man up and raise her. How little do you think of me?" He seemed a little taken back. "No! I just....I don't know!" I wasn't trying to say that. “I was just curious. I'm sorry!” He sighed. "Her name is Kiana" He started. "She's a little girl who became an orphan during the war. She's actually in a foster family now. She's happy and she's loved there. I wanted to help her so I got her into that foster family. I'm supporting her, buying her basic needs and paying for her tutor.” He shrugged like it was no big deal. "Why do you support her? Not that that isn't wonderful." He stiffened. "My father killed her parents when she was four." "Oh." I said in a quick quiet voice. My heart broke for the little girl. “During the war?” “No.” He said quietly. “Before it actually, she was a muggleborn who's father attempted to learn about the Wizarding World. He and his wife were just in the wrong place and the wrong time, they didn't die for any reason other than my father being a terrible person.” “Oh.” I repeated again, sounding oh so intelligent but not knowing what else to say. “Do you ever see her?” I wondered. "Yes, I go and visit her sometimes. She thinks of me as an uncle. She doesn't know it was my father who killed her parents." He shrugged again. "That's cute." I smiled at him, he really was wonderful. "Yeah, as surprising as it may sound I actually love kids." He gave me a weak smile. "I think, as shocking as it is, you'd be a fantastic father." I snuggled into his arms. He smiled sadly. "That won't happen.” He seemed distant. “Why do you say that?” I inquired. He shrugged. “I don't want to bring more children into this mess of the Malfoy family. It wouldn't be fair to them." "You're not your father Draco..." I trailed off. We've had this discussion. He thinks he's going to follow in his footsteps. He really doesn't see the good in himself. Which you would never guess from his cocky attitude. He kissed more forehead one last time and sighed deeply. "Alright, it's time for me to go to work. I'm guessing you won't be here when I get back?" "No I won't." This was too hard. "Have you made your decision?" He said in a strained voice. "Yes. We'll discuss it tomorrow, we'll go for lunch? " I smiled weakly at him. "Of course, love. Promise me that you'll go to the doctors." He wasn't asking. "Promise. Have a good day." I kissed his cheek, pausing there, then snuggling into his arms before he left. “Where the fuck have you been?” Ron boomed as I opened the door. He was mad. Awesome. I rolled my eyes and put down my bag by the door. “Didn't you get my message? I was sick... I stayed work.” “You don't look very sick.” I knew this was a downright lie. I was ghostly pale and I just looked horrible. “You should have came home.” “Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” I rolled my eyes at him again. “Don't 'whatever' me!” His eyes flashed in anger. What was he so pissed off about? “Don't tell me what to do!” I yelled back. He had been such a sweetheart lately and now...not so much. I sighed, giving up. “Okay, but I'm going to the doctors. Do you want to come?” “Sure.” He grumbled. He just gave me the cold shoulder and went back to doing whatever he was doing. He really was making me believe that I had chosen the right person. I doubted my choice less and less. When we got to my doctors I checked in and was told that she would see me shortly. So Ron and I sat in the waiting room. He was flipping through a Quidditch magazine, looking angry as ever. “What's your problem?” I asked bitterly. “Oh I dunno, maybe the fact that the person I'm about to marry in 6 months is never around, nor does she tell me anything. You're mine. I want to know where you are at all times. You're not allowed to just take off like that.” He said in a dark, low voice. “I'm not property Ron, you can't tell me what I'm allowed to do or not.” I was not going to get into this here. I didn't feel good and wasn't about to deal with his ego. Before he could respond the doctor called me in to one of the rooms. “Hello Ms. Granger, what are you here for?” The doctors nurse greeted me in the room. I paused for a minute. “I've just been all over sick and achy. Just here to make sure it's nothing serious.” “That's wise. We're just going to do a quick blood test. It's probably just a cold, but we want to make sure it isn't something else, mononucleosis has been going around.” The nurse smiled and patted the inside of my arm with the yellow liquid covered cotton ball. She quickly stuck the needle into my vein and I saw the blood flow willingly out into and down the tube into the awaiting pouch. Once the pouch had a sufficient amount of blood in it she took the need out of my arm and touched the tip of her wand to my skin, sealing the needle hole and stopping the blood flow. “I'll be right back.” She smiled warmly and took the pouch of my blood into another room where they would do a simple spell to check for any irregularities. Ron looked relieved when the blood was taken away, he was a bit squeamish when it came to other peoples' blood. I shot him a small smile, which he didn't return. After what seemed like three years I heard the nurse coming back to my room, with the results. “Well it's not mono!” The nurse came into the room, all smiles again, followed by the doctor. “So what is it?” I questioned. The doctor beamed, looking way to happy. “Congratulations Ms. Granger, you're pregnant.” Congratulations? http://www.harrypotterfanfiction.com |
