Chapter 3: In which a Malfoy gets turned into a human pretzel, and a Potter, a Weasley, and a Goyle throw down.
I had never seen so many different shades of red hair in my life. Strawberry blonde (Dominique Weasley), carrot orange (Molly Weasley), burnt orange (Lucy Weasley), auburn (Rose Weasley) and fire engine red (Lily Potter). The only exception to that was Roxanne Weasley, but she had dyed her naturally black hair a burgundy colour to fit in. Sometimes our Quiddich practices just turned into a red blur. We worked well together. Dominique, Lucy and Molly were the best chasers I had ever seen. Lily shot like a bullet through us all and caught the snitch at least once every five minutes. Roxanne stopped almost every goal, but not all, so that convinced me that Dominique and the others were really trying. Rose was the biggest surprise of all. She and I worked really well together, surprisingly well. They had all voted for me to be team captain, yes, even ‘Little Miss Prim and Proper’. I was utterly convinced we were going to win the tournament! After a particularly good training session, the team was in high spirits and we were all laughing and joking. We all hit the Gryffindor showers, but seeing as Dominique spends fifteen minutes conditioning her hair, I was the last to leave. I was just about to lock up, when I heard someone shout
“DON’T CLOSE THE DOOR!”
“Scorpius? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”
“Stop shouting! R- someone might here you! And what are you doing here?”
“I asked you first” I raised my eyebrows.
“Don’t tell the lads but I might have a slight crush on one of the Weasleys”
“Well that narrows it down!” I snorted sarcastically.
“Fine…..but you promise not to tell anyone! Not Alex, or Xavier, or Fergal?”
“Scorpius, don’t you trust me at all? Did I tell them you still have a teddy-bear, or that your first kiss was with a dude?”
“That was a terrible, terrible accident! And you promised never to mention that!”
“Never mind! And who d’you like?”
“Ro-” he mumbled the rest.
“Ro? ROXANNE? Roxanne is going out with Kane Westwood and he will beat the SHIT out of you if he finds out!”
“Not Roxanne! ROSE!”
“YOU LIKE ROSE???? OH MY FUCKING GOD SINCE WHEN????”
Scorpius clamped his hands over my mouth.
“Are you fucking crazy? You can’t just go shouting stuff like that!”
I licked them inside of his hand.
“Eww……Jesus Jade you are so disgusting!” He wiped his hand off my Quiddich robes.
“Since when have you liked Rose?” I repeated.
“I dunno, second year?”
“THAT LONG?” I screeched. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me this!”
“Again, Jade you cant just go shouting stuff like that!”
“But Scorp! I could have asked her out for you years ago!”
“She doesn’t know who I am” He muttered sadly.
“Well I can help with that!”
“Jade! PROMISE me you won’t say or do anything! Just don’t interfere!”
“Do you know me at all?” I scoffed.
“Promise me Jade” He grabbed me by the shoulders and looked me straight in the eyes.
“Fine” I sighed.
“Thank you” You could actually see the relief on his face. We walked in silence until we reached the castle. “You never answered my question, what were you doing down there anyway?”
I bit my lip.
“Promise you won’t get mad?”
“What did you do Jade”
I grabbed him by the shoulders and looked him straight in the eyes. “Promise you won’t get mad?”
“Fine” He sighed. I got a serious sense of déjà vu.
“Well, I may or may not have put together a Quiddich team.”
“WHAT?” He bellowed.
“And we may or may not be planning on entering the Quiddich Tournament”
If looks could kill, I would have been dead. Scorpius looked as if he was about to breath fire.
“Did you not hear me? You are not allowed play Quiddich!”
It was here that I had to resort to blackmail.
“You so much as try and stop me, and James Potter will accidentally find out who you fancy.”
“You wouldn’t” He narrowed his eyes.
“Try me” I spat back.
I know what your thinking, what does it make a difference if James Potter found out Scorpius liked Rose, but all the Weasley/Potter’s are highly protective of their female relatives when its with someone who isn’t hated by the entire school. If he found out that Scorpius so much as looked at Rose, he wouldn’t be able to walk straight for a week.
“Now come on grumpy, do you want my help planning ‘Operation Make Rose Fall in Love with You without Getting Your Face Permanently Rearranged’?”
“First things first, we need to think of a new name!” Scorpius laughed.
That was the one good thing with Scorpius. His moods only lasted a little while.
We were on our way down to the Slytherin common room when I suddenly remembered I’d to finish my Potions essay.
“I’ll come with you to get it!”
“Oh I wonder why Scorp, it wouldn’t have anything to do with a certain red-head would it?”
“Shut up!” He punched me playfully on the arm. We were both still laughing when we entered the short-cut between the first-floor and the third; it cut the length of the journey to Gryffindor Tower in half.
The laughter died in both our throats when we saw who was in the passage-way. Rose. And Alex. Snogging. And I mean SNOGGING. He had his hand up her skirt and he was running his nose along her jaw-bone. Scorpius cleared his throat. They jumped apart and looked at the both of us sheepishly. I knew unless I did something fast, Scorpius would cause a scene, so I just bustled past them, pulling Scorpius with me. We walked in silence the rest of the way. I ran up to my dorm and grabbed my schoolbag. I had left Scorpius waiting for me outside the portrait-hole, so I had a few minutes to try and make sense of what had just happened. How did I not notice something was going on? And how was Saint Rose getting more action than I was?
“Jade? Are you in here? Its just Scorpius came into the common room looking for you and my relations are currently trying to turn him into a human pretzel.”
It was Lily.
“Sorry about this Jade! I tired to stop them but they won’t listen!”
“Don’t worry Lily, now where have they taken Scorpius?”
She silently led me down to the common room. They had tied Scorpius’s hands and legs together and gagged him and were tossing him up in the air. She looked at me apologetically.
“PUT HIM DOWN!” I roared, jumping the last two steps down to the common room.
They all turned around.
“Oh look, you’re little girlfriend has come to try and rescue you Dorkious!” James sneered.
They all laughed when I charged across the common room and stopped just in front of them, hands on hips.
“Put him down NOW!”
“Oh? Are you going to make us?” He jeered in my face.
The look of shock on his face when I kneed him in the groin. He sank to the floor, clutching his valuables.
“Yeah, I think I am!” I hissed in his ear.
“Look blondie, lets not get all worked up about it….” Fred Weasley said slowly, as if I was four. That made me see red.
I ran at him and rugby-tackled him into one of the many arm-chairs. The crowd that had formed cheered appreciatively. Someone grabbed me from behind and clamped my arms against my body. I jumped up and slammed the top of my head into his jaw. The instant release and the howl of pain told me that, just as I had planned, the person had bitten their tongue. I turned around to see James Potter, howling furiously, blood pouring from his mouth. I looked at the others who were all standing there, still holding Scorpius aloft.
“Now, are you going to put him down?”
They placed him gently on the floor, keeping one eye on me the whole time.
They did as they were told.
“Now, what have we learned today?”
“That you’re as crazy as everyone says!”
I spun round to see James Potter smirking at me. I drew back my right arm and then swung at him. The moment my fist connected with his jaw-bone, I heard something in my hand snap. But I didn’t care. James Potter had been knocked to the ground. By a girl. I looked up and saw everyone looking at me, the same mask of shock on each of there faces. I was snapped out of my daydream by a shout
“Jadie! Look out!” Scorpius yelled.
I turned my head and saw the look of fury on James Potters face. He drew back his right arm, and released it, in a perfect imitation of me. I heard a sickening crack, and I flew backwards. There were many cheers, but, to my surprise, there were a few cries of
“James! You just hit a girl!”
“I can’t believe you just did that!”
“She didn’t even hurt you!”
“I think you broke her jaw!”
I got up slowly and turned to face him. As gracefully as I could manage, given that I had broken two bones in the space of two minutes, I left the common room, with Scorpius in my wake.
“I’m going to murder him! I’m going to murder that bastard!”
I shook my head vigorously and signalled for Fergal, Xavier and Alex, who were half-way across the common room to come back and sit down.
“What Jade? You’re going to let him away with hurting you? He broke your jaw!” Xavier seethed.
“Jade, don’t you understand? No one is allowed hurt you! No one!” Fergal clamped both his hands on my shoulders and shook me hard, as if trying to shake some sense into me. I winced. Fergal quickly released me and looked at Scorpius.
“Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, she rugby tackled Fred Weasley as well!”
“Christ Jadie? Were you trying to get yourself killed?”
Again, I shook my head vigorously and pointed at Scorpius.
“She was trying to get them to put me down, and then she kind of went a bit overboard.”
I rolled my eyes at Scorpius and signalled for him to hand me a quill and a piece of parchment. I clumsily grasped the quill in my left hand; I had broken my right, and wrote in clumsy letters
“I’m not going back into Gryffindor Tower ever again so one of ye will have to go find her!” Scorpius said instantly.
Alex looked shiftily from me to Scorpius.
“I know where she is”
At this, Scorpius’s expression darkened.
“Well for Christ sake go and find her!” Fergal demanded.
Alex got up without another word and disappeared.
Two minutes after Alex left, Professor Tiberdeem, Head of Gryffindor House entered the common room and walked straight over to us. For a moment, she merely looked at me, obviously shocked at my appearance. My whole jaw was covered in one big, continuous bruise that connected down to the bruise on my shoulder, that matched the bruises on my hand perfectly. They were all different shades of black, grey, violet and blue. It looked like an emo had tie-died my face, and the right hand side of my body. Obviously James had forgotten to mention that he had hit me back.
Her moment of shock was broken by a brisk “Miss Goyle, Mr Malfoy, come with me”
We got up slowly and trudged out of the common room. She led us all the way up to the Headmistress’s office, where we found James Potter, Fred Weasley, and to my surprise, James, Fred’s and Scorpius’s parents waiting for us. Draco sent daggers in Harry Potter’s direction when he saw my face.
“Now, would someone like to tell me what went on in the Gryffindor common room this afternoon?” Professor Mc Gonnagal asked briskly.
No one said a word.
“Perhaps Miss Goyle would like to elaborate” Professor Mc Gonnagal pierced me with her olive green eyes.
“Well, in case you haven’t noticed, her jaw is broken and I want to know how this happened!” Draco shouted.
Professor Mc Gonnagal continued as if she had never been interrupted.
“Mr Potter, I assume your jaw is in perfect working order, now, tell me what happened.”
James opened his mouth. His tongue was a bloody mess. I smirked to myself.
Fred went to open his mouth, but James whacked him on the arm. I caught on to his game, he didn’t want to be the snitch, he was going to make one of us tell everything so he could go off and make out he was the ‘big man’. Not today Potter, you must remember who your dealing with!
Scorpius stared right back at her (I admired his nerve), shoved his hands in his pockets, and said nothing.
“Alright then, Joyce, would you be so kind as to fetch another Gryffindor for me.”
Now I was finished. James had probably bribed the whole house to lie through their teeth if they were asked.
Professor Tiberdeem returned a short time later. Her return broke one of the most awkward silences I had ever endured. She steered a terrified looking first-year into the room.
“Now, will you please tell me what you witnessed in your common room this afternoon.”
He looked nervously from Professor Mc Gonnagal to James to me, obviously deciding which one was the scariest. I think Professor Mc Gonnagal won because he stared at the floor when he began
“Well, I was sitting in the common room, minding my own business, when I saw someone run up to the girls dormitories. Five minutes later, he” the boy pointed towards Scorpius “came in and asked a third year girl where was Jade Goyle.Them” the boy pointed towards James and Fred “and a load of other people spotted him” he pointed at Scorpius “ and started jeering at him because he came into the Gryffindor common room. They” he pointed towards Fred and James “and a load of their friends gagged him” he pointed to Scorpius “tied him up and started tossing him in the air. Everyone was cheering because it was really funny. His” he pointed to James “ sister went over to them and told them to stop, but they didn’t listen, so she ran up to the girls dormitories and came back down two minutes later with her” the boy pointed at me “She looked really mad. She started yelling at them to put him” he pointed at Scorpius “down, but they laughed at her. He” the boy pointed at James “said something to her, and she kneed him in the…… downstairs. He fell down and she whispered something in his ear. He” the boy pointed at Fred “said something about her being a ‘blondie’, so she rugby tackled him into a chair. He” the boy pointed to James “grabbed her” he pointed to me “from behind, so she jumped up and made him bite his tongue. Then she made the others put him” he pointed to Scorpius “down. Everyone thought it was over, but then he” the boy pointed to James “said something to make her” he pointed to me “angry again so she punched him. Then he got really angry and he punched her back.” The boy took a deep breath, glad he didn’t have to speak any more.
“Thank you Coote” Professor Mc Gonnagal said. “You may go now”
“Um… Professor Tiberdeem, you won’t take the house points off me now, right?”
“Of course not William, off you go” and she shoved him out the door, obviously embarrassed to be caught blackmailing people. I was very close to laughing, when I caught the look on Professor Mc Gonnagal’s face.
“Never in all my life have I witnessed anything like it! 50 points from Gryffindor for you Mr Potter, 50 points from Gryffindor for you Mr Weasley, and 50 points from Slytherin for you Miss Goyle!”
“Amm….. Professor, slight problem…..” Scorpius said nervously. At this stage, the woman had gone so red I was afraid she would have a heart attack.
“I suppose Mr Malfoy your going to tell me that it wasn’t in any way Miss Goyles fault and that she is perfectly innocent!”
“No Professor, I was just going to say that she in Gryffindor, not Slytherin and I don’t think the Syltherins would be too pleased if they lost 50 points for no reason.”
“Well, that is very easy to rectify Mr Malfoy!” she pointed towards myself, Fred and James “you three will serve two weeks detention. Also you will not be allowed to compete in the-”
Someone in heaven was looking down on me. Before she could finish her sentence, undoubtedly banning me from playing in the Quiddich Tournament, Professor Tiberdeem burst into the room once more.
“Professor! Thirteen dungbombs were set off all over the school!”
Whoever was responsible, I loved them.
Professor Mc Gonnagal had retired three times during my time at Hogwarts. She would announce her retirement, there would be one hell of a party, and she would be back six months later announcing she was ‘shocked at the disarray the school had fallen into’ and that she was ‘back to reprehend the hooliganism that had swept over the school’. Translation: she was bored of the quiet life, and she missed us.
I exited the room and was on my way to the Hospital Wing, when I heard someone call out from behind me.
“Just a minute!” A woman with fire-engine red hair was hurrying towards me, dragging James behind her. Ginny Potter.
“I just want to apologise on James’s behalf for his actions today! I assure you he was not raised like this!”
I nodded my head and pointed towards myself. I was trying to signal that I was sorry as well, but she just looked at me, confused.
“Honestly Jadie, you’re the worst mime ever!” Scorpius whispered in my ear.
“I think she’s trying to say she’s sorry as well” Scorpius addressed Ginny.
I nodded vigorously.
“Although why, I do not know!” Draco came striding out of Professor Mc Gonnagal’s office.
I shot him a death glare.
“Not the time Dad! Just go find Mom!” Scorpius snapped impatiently.
Draco huffed and stalked away.
“Well, goodbye dear! I hope you’ll forgive James.” Ginny said warmly. She then shot James a death glare. She reminded me so much of Lily. She was kind, and forgiving.
I honestly don’t know where that woman got her sons.
DISCLAIMER!!!! I own nothing!
Hey guys!!! I really need your help!! Who do you think would be good with Jadie?
One of ‘the lads’?
Or any of the Neanderthals?
Please!!! I’m at such a dead end!!!
