What happens to Harry and Ginny after the final battle.

Chapter 3: Futures

 Ron’s POV

I watched Harry and Ginny returning to the castle. They looked so happy, and I was happy for them. If anyone deserved my sister it was Harry. “Ronald,” my mom brought me from a daydream. “Could you go tell Harry and Ginny that we will be leaving for the burrow in 20 minutes? Have them meet us in the Great Hall.” I headed off in the direction I saw Harry and Ginny walking.

“Where are you going without me?” Hermione asked as she slid her hand into mine.

“To find Harry and Ginny, it’s time to go home,” Home I hadn’t been there in over a year. I wondered if it still looked the same, and that death eaters hadn’t destroyed it looking for clues.

“Do you think I’ll be invited to your house to stay, because I have nowhere else to go?” Hermione looked like she was about to cry while she asked her question. I pulled her into a hug and kissed her forehead.

“Of course you are invited, my mom loves you like a 2nd daughter,” I told her gently. I felt her relax into my arms.

Just then, Harry and Ginny walked around the corner. “Hey, mum says we’re leaving in 20 minutes. We should get our things and then head to the Great Hall.” Harry just nodded at me, and the four of us started the walk back to the common room.

Once we returned to the common room Harry and I headed up into the boys dormitory. “We really didn’t need to come up here. None of our things are here.” I looked around the room after Harry’s comment and felt a bit of sadness. This was the last time I would ever be in the dorms. Oh well, I thought, it’s time to move on with my life. I than realized that this would likely be the only alone time I would have with Harry for a while.

“So you and Ginny, huh?”

“Ya. I hope you’re ok with it.”

“I am, but just remember she is my sister and if you hurt her, I will hurt you.”

“I’ll make you a deal, you take care of my sister, and I’ll take care of yours.” Harry had this goofy grin on face.

“Deal.” I walked up to Harry to shake his hand, but he pulled me into a bear hug instead.

With one last glance around the room we descended the stairs. Ginny and Hermione were waiting for us.

“What took you guys so long, decide to have a pillow fight?” Ginny asked laughing.

“No we had things to talk about, guy to guy.” Harry responded nonchalantly while sliding his arm around Ginny’s waist.

“Did it have something to do with the fact that if you hurt me Ron will hurt you?” Ginny asked. “Like Ron Weasley could cause harm to the great Harry Potter.”

“Hey!” I shouted. “And it wouldn’t be just me hurting him. It would be all 6…um I mean 5 of your brothers.” Remembering that Fred had died kept returning to me in the worst of times. I could tell Ginny was hit with sadness than too because she stopped harassing me and just walked with her head looking at the floor. I saw Harry and Hermione exchange nervous glances at each other. They must be worried about us, but they shouldn’t have to be, we will be fine we just need time to grieve.

Hermione’s POV

Ron’s demeanor changed as soon as he mentioned his brothers. I know he was thinking of Fred.  With a quick glance at Harry I knew that he felt the emotional change in Ginny too. We walked the rest of the way to the Great Hall in silence. I was clinging to Ron, but I’m not sure who it was comforting, me or Ron, probably both.

When we entered the Great Hall Mrs. Weasley greeted us with a hug. She hung on longer than normal, but I guess that’s to be expected. “Now that everyone is here it is time to go home.” She passed us each a handful of floo powder, and one at a time we returned to the Burrow. I went after Ron and before Harry.

The Burrow was just how we had left it a year ago. It almost felt like it was the summer before and that this past year had not even happened. But of course it had, and nothing was the same, everything was different, even me. And of course the Burrow had changed, the people in it are different, people that were always visitors will never walk through the front door again. They’ll never get to share a story about happier times.

That was when I remembered that the war was over and we had won. We were finally able to move on with our lives. That was the first time in years that I was actually able to imagine a future that didn’t involve destroying dark magic. The future excited me, there was a husband, and kids, and a big house. I wanted it so bad, and I could finally have it. My future was mine to define, not some stupid dark wizard that I had to help destroy. This was it; I took a step forward, the first step towards my new future.

Harry’s POV

It felt so great to be at the Burrow again. It was just like old times, only this time I had nothing to worry about. The prophecy had been fulfilled and I can live the life of a normal person for once.

“Hey Ron, want to go play some quidditch?” I asked as we were putting our few belongings into his room.

“Ya, that sounds like fun.” We started heading outside to grab some brooms to use and were joined by Hermione and Ginny. They also grabbed brooms.

“Me and Harry against Hermione and Ron,” Ginny called out as we reached the orchard we always played in. We mounted the brooms and the game began. Ginny and I won with ease because riding a broom is something that Hermione is terrible at.

Playing quidditch brought back a sense of peace that I had been missing in my life for the past year. I felt free in the air, and it helped that Ginny was around. I didn’t know were my future would go but I was positive that I wanted her in it.

Ginny’s POV

I’m surprised that I was able to help Harry win the quidditch game at all. I spent the whole time staring at him. He looked so perfect to me. I had spent all year waiting for him to return. I spent so much time wondering if he was safe that it feels weird now because I no longer have to worry. He is safe, and so am I. The war is over, and our lives can begin again.

When I was little and I would fantasize about my future Harry was always the prince that I would marry. It feels weird that it could really happen in real life. After the quidditch game ended Harry and I were sitting on the couch in the family room.

“What are you thinking about babe?” Harry asked.

“The future.”

“The future?”

“Ya, now that the war is over we can live normal lives. Haven’t you thought about your future?”

“Ya I have, and the only thing I’ve decided is that I want you in it.” He smiled as he said it. I blushed.

“Whenever I think about my future you’re in it too.”

“Someday it’ll happen,” he assured me before he kissed me.
