Chapter 3: Dinner with the Minister
[View Online]

“Well I never imagined any person to be as rude as they were.” Cissy said after we all apparated back to the Manor (Draco and I went by side-along of course). “Are they always like that?”

I nodded. “They hate Harry and me.”

“Then why did they raise you?”

I shrugged. “I guess they had no choice. We were dumped on their doorstep, and unfortunately they are the only blood family we have left.”

Cissy shook her head. “That’s just despicable.”

There was a thundering of footsteps coming towards us. “Nat!” Trixie exclaimed.

“Hey Trix, how are you?” She laughed.

“Even better now that you’re here! Come on, I’ll help you get ready for the dinner tonight!” She took my hand and started to drag me away, but I stopped her.

“What dinner?” I asked. She smiled.

“We have dinner with Minister Fudge!” My eyes widened.

“Are you kidding me?!” She shook her head and I grimaced. She smiled.

“Come on, it will be fun. Usually Aunt Cissy and Uncle Luce are only invited, but Fudge said we could come too!”

I sighed as she dragged me up to her room. I really did not want to see Fudge. To be honest, I actually hate him. I’ve hated him since the summer before my second year when Harry and I ran away to the Leaky Cauldron on the Knight Bus. And last year, after the Second Task, Harry told me that when he went to see Dumbledore after Crouch was killed, Fudge didn’t even care. He’s a coward and a horrible leader. And I just knew he was going to ask me what happened in the maze; not something I was looking forward to.

After Trixie was done with me, I looked rather pretty. She dressed me up in a purple sundress of her, scrunched my hair, and put some pretty pastel-colored makeup on me. She kept saying that Draco would totally hit the floor and how Fudge would be very impressed. I didn’t really care about that. I honestly didn’t care what the Minister thinks.

After Trix was ready, I made my way to Draco’s room only to find it empty. I went onto the balcony, glanced down, and noticed him in the garden. I decided to go to him, but not climbing over the banister and almost falling to my death like last time.

As I approached, he held out his hand and I took it. He brought me to rest against him and I sighed in utter happiness.

“I’m sorry about the dinner. I didn’t know myself until we got home.”

“It’s okay. I am spending part of the holiday with you, so I have to do what is planned.” He kissed the top of my head.

 “You’re the best.”

I laughed. “Tell me that again after we go have dinner with Fudge. I may throw things at him.” He chuckled.

“You don’t like Fudge?

 “Not at all.”

“Well I’m still going to call you the best girlfriend ever since you’re sucking it up and going.”

Before I knew it, it was time to leave for the dinner. Apparently, it was at Fudge’s house. I’ve only ever seen him at the Leaky Cauldron and at Hogwarts, so it would be interesting to see him in his home environment. Maybe it would even change my opinion of him. Ha, not likely.

We used the Floo Network and ended up in what appeared to be a drawing room. It was overly stuffy and looked like something that came out of a muggle movie from the fifties. Draco came up from behind and wrapped his arms around my waist. Meanwhile, his parents made their way further into the house with Trixie on their tail.

“Ah Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy, it is a pleasure it is to have you in my home.” Fudge’s obnoxious voice said from the foyer.

“Come on, love.” Draco whispered in my ear. He took my hand and walked in the direction of his parents.

“Ah, young Draco, how good it is to see you.” His face lit up in surprise. “And Miss Potter, what a pleasant surprise. How is your brother?”

“He’s fine; still recovering from the horrific Third Task.”

He sighed. “Yes, what a tragic accident Mr. Diggory’s death was.”

I was stunned. “Cedric’s death was no accident! Voldemort killed him!” He chuckled nervously.

“Oh children and their overactive imaginations…”

“I didn’t imagine it! I was there! Voldemort is back! He has returned!” I took a deep breath and looked over to see Lucius give me a stern look. I shrunk back into Draco and averted my eyes. Merlin, I really hated Fudge. How dare he call me and Harry liars?!

Lucius cleared his throat. “Shall we move on?” Fudge looked flustered for a moment.

“Oh yes, yes.” He turned and motioned for us to follow him. In the dining room, a woman who I assumed was his wife was standing by the table giving a house elf orders. “My dear, the Malfoys are here.” She turned around and beamed at us.

“Oh, how lovely it is to see you all. Come and sit.” I almost snorted. I found it ironic that the Minister and his wife were sucking up to us, like we were the most important people in the world.

As we sat down, I got a closer look at Mrs. Fudge. She was rather pretty, with her long brown hair and kind eyes. How could a woman like that be with a man like Fudge? Apparently, the look of disgust made it to my face because Lucius glanced over at me and gave me the ‘no more embarrassments tonight’ look. I shook my head and he nodded. Draco grabbed my hand under the table and squeezed. Trixie sat down next to Draco.

“Tonight’s going to be really fun, don’t you think?”

“So much fun…” I said sarcastically, but she didn’t seem to pick up on that.

House elves soon placed food in front of us, and we dug in elegantly. The adults were talking about politics, while we sat in silence. Trixie looked like she was totally interested, but maybe that was because she was in her twenties.

Draco placed a kiss on my temple and whispered in my ear, “I’ll make it up to you.” I smiled and nodded. “Come on sweetie, talk to me.” I sighed.

“I hate him. He called me and Harry liars. Why would he do that?”

“I don’t know, but I do know that he will come around eventually. He has to because the entire wizarding world will be asking about it.” I nodded and pushed the food around on my plate.

“Uh Dray, what is this?” I whispered. He chuckled.

“That’s duck, sweetheart.”

Duck?! Merlin, this is going to be a long night.

A/N: Did you pick up on my hate for Cornelius Fudge? If you didn’t, I suggest reading this chapter over again. Please review!!!
