Chapter 5: Chapter Five
[View Online]

2 weeks later

“I can’t believe we aren’t going to be coming back after this. It’s scary to think that after seven years we will finally be going out to the real world.”

I rested my head on James shoulder. He had been really nervous about going home and not coming back; he was nervous and it was so cute. The past two weeks had gone so quickly. I had organised to go home for a week so James and I could attend Petunia’s wedding and then I would stay at James’ while we looked for an apartment. I couldn’t live in a house with my parents anymore and James couldn’t live with his so we decided to get somewhere together… it was early but we loved each other and I knew I would miss him too much.

“Are you alright you seem really, REALLY nervous? It’s just the end of school nothing new. Sirius, Remus and Peter are still going to be around and so will I!” James looked at me and kissed the top of my head.

“I’m fine, but this has been seven years. Just sad that I’m leaving you know.” I squeezed his hand. We were sitting in the great hall having breakfast for the last time. The seventh years didn’t have any classes today and tomorrow we had to get up early and miss breakfast to make sure everyone was ready to go home so we had a whole day to sit around and enjoy Hogwarts for the last time. “What do you want to do today, love?”

“I need to finish packing so my school trunk can go on the train first tomorrow: have you finished?” I asked him without looking up from my paper that I was reading.

“Yes, and so have the boys.” This made me look up, “I made them. We could go for a walk around to lake, we haven’t done that since our first month of dating!”

“Yeah alright let’s do that.” I took another bite of my toast as I watched some second years shuffle off to their last day of classes. James got up and put his hand out for me to take so I put my hand in his. We walked out of the Great Hall, into the Entrance Hall, out the giant oak doors and down the steps as we made our way to the Black Lake. James stopped at an old tree right by the edge of the lake, he sat down while pulling me down with him and I leaned against his body with my head resting on his chest. This was a usual thing for us, though normally James’ heartbeat didn’t a million miles an hour, it was beating faster then I’d ever heard. Guess he really was nervous about leaving tomorrow.

“Are you nervous? About leaving I mean because you heart is going a million miles an hour.” James ran his hands through his hair the placed one on his knee and one on my stomach.

“No, not that nervous… and is it? I didn’t realise.” He looked at me and smiled before lowering his head and kissing me passionately, I was happy to keep going but he pulled back before I was ready. “Did that get your heart racing as fast as mine?”

“Yes.” I breathed trying to catch my breath from the kiss. James looked at me then turned his head towards the castle as I closed my eyes trying to calm my breathing.

“Lily? Can I tell you something?” James looked into my eyes, I once again searched for the reason of why his heart was beating so hard in his face but he just smiled down at me.

“Uh…yeah okay.” I hesitated.

“Well you know that I love you and that I would never hurt you. I want us to be together forever, to never go without and to always be by ones side. I guess what I’m trying to say is; I want to know…” I had sat up and was now sitting on my knees facing him but his last words were drowned by a loud scream from over by the castle.

“LILLLLLLLLY!” Someone was calling my name; I turned to see that Severus was running towards us, Sirius and Remus hot on heels obviously trying to stop him. It was at this time that I realised that our entire year and most of the teachers were standing outside the oak doors watching Severus run down towards us and, I think, watching James and I. I wondered how long they had been there for. James got up, pulling me up at the same time, and practically flew over to Sirius and Remus who were restraining Severus and talking in whispered that immediately stopped when I arrived.

“What the hell is going on here?! Severus, what on earth are you doing and Padfoot, Moony let him go please.” The two of them looked at each other, then at Severus who was catching his breath and then at James who was standing annoyingly close and in front of me. James gave a nod and the boys let him go. “Move James, I can’t see through you, you’re not a ghost you know.” He immediately moved to one side letting me see the scene that was unfolding in front of my eyes.

“Lily…you…can’t…can’t…” Severus panted still trying to catch his breath.

“Can’t what, I believe you gave up every right to tell me what your opinions are when you stopped talking to me.” I stood my ground but I was curious to know what Severus thought I couldn’t do.

“Lily you can’t marry him. Not him, anyone but him.” Severus looked at me waiting for my reaction. As soon as he had said the words Sirius let out a dog-like growl and stood in front of him speaking in low whispers again and Remus was looking at James. What was going on here?

“Marry who?” I was confused to what Severus was talking about. “Who said I was marrying anyone! I haven’t even finished school yet, not that it really matters but still.” I stared at the three boys in front of me who were all staring at the one beside me. I turned to face James who had his hand out to me with a giant diamond ring placed inside a small box. “Well, that changes things.”
