Chapter 2: Chapter One
FOUR YEARS LATER
Marlene stood up on a table in front of the fire place.
‘I’d like to thank everyone for coming tonight! And I hope you all have an amazing time because I certainly will! Let the fun begin!’ she said, jumping down from the table. As if on cue the lamps dimmed and the music began to play. Everyone started talking loudly having to overcompensate to be heard over the music. It was her eighteenth birthday and she’d decided to throw a lovely big party. Anyone who was anyone had been invited and it was going to be a brilliant night. Maybe Sirius would finally realise how amazing she was. Or kiss her. It’s was her birthday after all. It’d almost be cruel not to.
Sirius looked around for his friends. James had somehow convinced Lily to dance with him and was now showing off his rather questionable moves. Remus and Doracas were in the corner sitting with their heads together probably talking about something boring like the new regulations on cross species breeding. And Peter was sitting with his arm round Kathy watching her talk animatedly. Typical. Did they not know there was a party going on? It was practically law that you had to get drunk and kiss hot girls. But no, they’d all gone and got themselves paired up, leaving him to hold down the fun and single fort all on his own. He grabbed his bottle of firewhiskey, downed some of it and started to walk around the room.
A short while (and rather a lot of alcohol) later Sirius was quite intoxicated, to say the least.
‘Marlene!’ he yelled, spotting a blonde head on one of the couches. He attempted to jump over the back of the couch to reach her and somehow ended upon her lap. Just how much had he had to drink? ‘I jus’… I jus’ wanted to say HAPPY BIRFDAY MARLENE!’ he yelled slurring his words. He wrapped his arm around her and sloppily kissed her on the cheek. The blonde under him shifted to get out and, when he didn’t move, shoved him off.
‘Not Marlene’ she mumbled. ‘At least, I don’t think I am.’ She eyed up her firewhiskey bottle trying to work out just how much she’d actually had to drink. Sirius managed to get himself upright, then promptly fell onto the couch next to her.
‘You sure? Cos you look lots like Marley.’ He peered at this not-Marlene blonde.
‘I’m certain. Name’s Lola’ she said sticking out her hand for him to shake and somehow ending up hitting his arm instead.
‘You named after that song Marlene likes?’
‘You mean the one that was released like eight year affer I was born? No.’
‘Ah. Ah see. New names is too confusing though. Imma call you Marlene Number two. ‘S easier to member.’ Lola wondered vaguely whether she should be offended about that. Sirius spotted the bottle in her hand.
‘Firewhiskey! ‘Sat mine?’ Sirius asked.
‘Nope. But I’ll share!’ Lola rummaged about and managed to find a couple of shot glasses. ‘Cheers!’ she yelled clunking their glasses together.
Lola woke up lying on the floor covered in some embroidered wall hanging. And it got worse. There was an arm round her and her legs were tangled up in legs that were most definitely not her legs. She turned round to see who the legs belonged to. Sirius Black was lying next to her, drooling onto the floor. She elbowed him in the ribs just at Marlene appeared down from her dormitory.
‘SIRIUS BLACK! What are you doing with my sister?’ Lola took this as her cue to leave, dragging Sirius with her.
‘I can’t see the portrait hole Sirius. I think we might have drank it.’ Sirius grabbed her hand and pulled her in the direction of exit ignoring Marlene’s shouts of ‘She’s only twelve!’
‘Em you’re not really twelve are you?’ Sirius asked as they walked along the corridor. The earned him a withering look from Lola.
‘Do I look twelve?’
‘Well no but I don’t want to get arrested now do I’ replied Sirius.
‘Oh Merlin. Does that mean we did things that would have got you arrested if, hypothetically speaking of course, I was twelve?’ Lola asked. This was worrying. And why she should not drink. Or even go to parties. Or just see people in general.
‘It’s very early. I’m very hungover. I did not understand half of what you just said.’
‘Aw baby. Can’t hold your liquor?’ she asked with a grin. ‘I’ll spell it out for you then. Did we have sex?’
‘No. You wouldn’t let me.’ Answered Sirius. He looked a bit put out. Lola, however, was just pleased she hadn’t done anything too stupid. At least nothing too stupid that she could remember. Which was possibly worse. Cheered up by the thought she wasn’t going to end up with a baby in nine months she turned to go up the stairs to her common room. Impulsively she gave Sirius a peck on the cheek. As she began to pull away he turned his head slightly so that her quick peck on the cheek was no longer quite so innocent. He kissed her and she remembered the same thing happening last night. Numerous times. Not that she was complaining or anything. This was very enjoyable. She got distracted for quite a while as he kissed her but eventually he pulled away.
‘I’ll see you soon’ he said walking away. Thank god she couldn’t see the smile on his face. She might get the wrong idea or something.
