[View Online]

It was a warm, summer day. Perfect day to go for a swim, and that's what I did. A friend of mine had called the day before to arrange it. Yes a Muggle friend. I have a social life outside of Hogwarts you know, even though to some it sounds impossible.

But how rude of me, I forgot to introduce myself! My name is Hermione Granger, in about two months I'll be officially 16. My hair had been bushy for my whole life, even though it has calmed down a bit now. In school the nicknames “Mud blood”, “book-worm”, “know-it-all” mostly characterized me, as well as “buck-tooth”, until my fourth year. My best friends are Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Well, from school at least. Because, believe it or not I do have a life. So, my other best friends were Sissy, Deppy and Diana. They know everything about me, except that I'm a witch. But I' ve told them everything about Hogwarts, but left out the parts that would betray my secret identity.

So, anyways, Sissy called me to make plans for the same day. Her parents would come to pick me up in a couple of hours to go to some kind of resort for people who work at the navy, like her dad. And thankfully, they wouldn't come on a broom, or thestrals! The hours went by quickly, and soon I heard the familiar sound of a car. How I'd missed that sound!

“Hey girl! How have you been?” the high-pitched voice of my best friend asked me, and she came to hug me. I hugged her back and smiled at her. “God knows how much I've missed you! We all have.”

“I've missed you all too! I'll tell you everything later. Now you say what happened the past year.”

“Well... Deppy started going out with Alex... didn't end up so well, he cheated on her.”

“Like he wouldn't. Please, go on.” I commented

“Diana is dating Peter.”

“Still or again?” I cut her off.

“Surprisingly, still.”

I couldn't help but raise my eyebrows at the response. “Wow! Well, that's a record!” I joked.

“And what about you my dearest Sissy?”

“Same old, same old.....”she sighed as we entered her parent's Volvo. “Now's your turn!” she said excited.

“Well, it's been a very long and tiring year. First of we got a new a new professor -what a surprise!- and she was a total bitch!”

“Hermione! Language!” Sissy exclaimed shocked, because I don't cuss.

“I'm sorry mom! Anyways, Harry's god-father died (at that her face frowned) but he did get stronger. You know, for the finals.” What I meant with “the finals” was a totally different thing from what my friends thought it was. I was talking about Voldemort and they were talking about exams, but either way what I said most of the time made sense. “And my relationship with our dear Malfoy got even worse, and we'll get a new professor next year, and I think that's pretty much all!”

“I still don't get why you and Dr- Malfoy fight. I mean, he's so hot!

“He still is a jerk.” I replied in a 'duh' tone.

“So... you do believe he's hot!” she tried to “trick” me into stop fighting with him and well.. get a boyfriend eventually.

“Never said anything like that!” I said faking to be insulted.

“You implied it though.” Sissy flashed me a smile.

“Yeah, whatever!” I snorted, giving up because I knew that this wouldn't get us anywhere. “But, hold on. You almost called him Draco! So, what's going on?” I said half laughing half serious.

“Nothing! I... I just don't get why you call him by his last name. I mean, yeah, you two fight and everything, but I think it's kind of childish, and stupid... and don't forget pointless!” she tried to hide a blush.

“Calling the other by his first name shows familiarity and a not so formal relationship. And that's the two things I don't have with Malfoy: familiarity and an informal relationship. End of story!”

And that was pretty much where it ended, and we spent the rest of the trip listening to music and talking about pretty much harmless and useless stuff, taking all of my worries and problems away.

When we arrived we dived in immediately, the heat of the weather was too much to stand without the blue, clean ocean to refresh you. So, we had fun, we talked, laughed and did everything we should have done while I was at Hogwarts, what two best friends usually do and not fighting the most evil wizard of all times etc etc... It kind of reminded me my childhood, when I didn't know that I was a witch, when life was easier. But coming to think about it, my life as a Muggle would be the most boring of them all, but as a witch... I might be in danger 24/7, 365 days a year but the excitement and the heat of the moment pays all the energy we put in trying to stay alive back. Plus, I got a life I would never even dare to dream! It's not anything typical, anything you could read out of a book for teenage girls.

After getting out of the water shivering, we sunbathed for what seemed like forever even though it was only fifteen minutes, under the hot sun, something uncommon to the English sky. Then we went to grab a bite at a restaurant the resort had. The food wasn't that good, but I didn't care; I had my best friend beside me, taking all of my worries away.

And after getting our tired bodies off of our chairs we headed to the playground to talk a little bit more about our friends' relationships with their boyfriends. First we sat on the swings, but after a while the sun came right above our heads annoying us so we went to something that was supposed to look like a horse and had many seats and needed someone to rock it in order for the “fun” to commence. I could easily imagine five kids screaming and laughing as a parent rocked the horse for them. So, after a while a little girl with a lot of attitude for her age came to see what we were doing. Unfortunately she wasn't so easy to get rid of, nor was her attitude. But the timing was perfect! Just after the little devil disappeared from our sight two guys came. One wearing a white shirt and the other a black one. The one with the white shirt had vary pale skin, and the one with the black shirt had a fairly dark complexion, almost chocolate-like. But they were both wearing hats and sunglasses, so “we couldn't tell exactly how hot they were” according to Sissy.

First we gave no importance to their glances, but then, as we walked these glances became annoying stares. And I knew exactly why. I knew I should have gotten dressed, but I was way too tired to put on a longer pair of shorts and a top, so I just went with a pair of really short shorts as well as the top of my bikini as a top. Sissy had worn the exact same thing but it was different, she dressed like that all the time. You could easily call her desperate!

I poked her to see if she had noticed, and once she nodded we burst into an uncontrollable laughter. We went closer to observe the guys who were obviously checking us out, enjoying the feeling of being noticed as it was vary rare for me. I knew I was kind of pretty, well noticeable at least, but given my reputation at school it was hard getting noticed.

“I get the black shirt!” Sissy almost shouted when the guy with the black shirt was taking his shirt off, revealing a nice body, that any girl would want to touch and every guy would want to have.

“Hey! Not fair!” I whined, making my voice sound like a little child's. “Okay, so I'm left with the white one now, huh? Well, who knows what lies behind these glasses and that shirt.” I said playfully, winking at the same time, trying to make my friend jealous that I still had the mystery. “But what if the black shirt likes me and the white shirt likes you?” I wondered, out loud.

“Well, the white one can't be that bad!” Sissy replied poking my arm and smiling widely.

And then the little devil with the big attitude came by -again- and dragged us to something the called the “girl club”. It was nothing, really. Just a few rocks big enough to sit on and a few leaves under the shade of a couple of trees. But it meant a lot to them, and it was kind of cute! I mean, they even had flowers!

But, thanks to the little devil that now became a nerve breaker as well we lost the black and the white shirt. But thankfully not for long. We left the “girl club” lying about us leaving and after walking for around 10 minutes we found them again, the black shirt still with no shirt on -ironic, huh?-.

“Still hot as the sun!” Sissy poked fun at me, for not knowing exactly what the white shirt looked like.

“You know I like the mystery. It keeps the fire burning!” I simply replied trying hard to keep my annoyance from not being written all over my face.

And then, we lost them again. It was getting pretty tiring, I had to admit. But it was fun, and probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Even though we lost them once again, luck was on our side. For as long as I knew of course.

“Hey, watch it! We're on a quest here!” I said, quite rudely actually to the one who bumped into me.

“On finding what, if I may?” a voice that seemed familiar asked, and as I looked up I saw a white shirt, a pair of sunglasses and a hat.

“You?” I asked, lowering my voice, looking down in embarassment.

“'Cause, well... me and my friend over there, Sissy, saw you looking at as and then we lost you and when we found you again you were still looking at as and then we wanted to be looked at again!” I blurted out, since no lie could cover it up.

“Oh. My. God!” Sissy squealed.

“Okay, now what?” I asked a bit of annoyed. I mean, I was embarrassed enough for that night.

“It's him!” she said, mouth wide open. “Dr... Dr... Dra... Draco M..m...m...malfoy!”

“How come you know me and I don't know you?” he asked, and all the pieces started to form a completed puzzle. His voice, his friend's complexion and six pack! Draco Malfoy and Blaise Zabini!

“Oh you know me a tad too well Malfoy to say you don't know me!” I said, taking off his sunglasses and hat, revealing his face and hair. “Oh, hi Blaise!” I waved friendly.

“Granger? Why are you here, and are you friends with Blaise?” he asked a bit confused himself.

“I'm here because my Muggle friend here has a dad who works at the navy. And I've been friends with Blaise since last year, when I helped him cheat on his O.W.L.s.” I replied trying to stay calm.

“Mione, what does “Muggle” mean? And you never mentioned Blaise!” Sissy said a bit angry at me for hiding things. I was surprised that she remembered that O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s were the names of our final examinations at the end of our fifth and seventh year.

“Muggle, my love, means amazing. It's a word I got from Scotland.” I hurried to answer before Malfoy destroyed everything. “And I' m pretty sure I did mention Blaise. You just wasn't paying that much attention.” I covered it up. No one knew about my friendship with Blaise and I forgot that Sissy, or any other friend I had outside of school could spread silly rumors about us. “So, what are you guys doing here?” I asked, turning the subject to a more interesting and convenient angle for me.

“We have our ways of sneaking in and out, you should know.” Malfoy said referring to his Dad's magical powers, that allowed him to get what he wanted for himself and his son.

“Yeah, right. I forgot that you can't do anything by yourself and rely on Daddy, 365 days of the year.” I spat realizing what had actually happened.

“Please, don't fight!” Blaise and Sissy said in unison. It was hard to ignore their puppy-dog eyes as well as their pleading tone.

“Okay.....” Draco said sounding disappointed, but I could sense him sighing with relief, probably because he didn't have a come-back.

“So... finding your enemy hot... interesting! Can I call you Draco?” Sissy said, trying to lighten the mood.

“No! And yes, you can.” said Draco.

“Oh, come on Draco admit it. You were checking her out, and you were the one who told me you wanted to-”

“No, I don't really need to hear it!” I cut Blaise off, honestly not wanting to hear. But something was itching me, a part of me wanted to know. But I quickly washed the thought away. Why would I be interested in what Malfoy had said about me?

“Okay... I won't say it. But I really am into your dear friend.” Blaise said looking at Sissy. Like he wouldn't like her!

“This sounds intriguing. Why don't you join me for a cup of tea, so we get to know each other better and leave those two fight like an old couple?” proposed Sissy and Blaise offered her his hand, and left us, siting on the ground, in a complete and awkward silence.

“But, you were checking me out too!” Malfoy said out of the blue.

“Yeah, 'cause I didn't know who you are!” I replied in a 'duh' tone, as if it was the most obvious thing in the whole world.

“Still. And it's better this way. I mean, now I know that you think I' m sexy!” he smirked. Now I would only kid myself if I said that he didn't look so darn sexy. And I hated admitting it, almost as much as I hated getting an E.

“And seriously? I mean, I think that what you said applies to me as well!”

“Well yeah... But if you didn't hide these beautiful legs and those curves! Merlin, if you weren't a Gryffindor! And a friend of Potter and Weasley's....”

“It would be very convenient for both of us if we weren't enemies... I'm supposed to hate you, and you are supposed to hate me.” I sighed deeply, realizing that what I' ve been supposed to do kept me from making a new friend, and who knows, maybe more. Regarding what had happened that day, and knowing that all those things said and done were completely objective, if we gave each other a chance it might as well could have turned out well.

Expressing my thoughts out loud, Malfoy found himself agreeing with me for the very first time.

“So... what about grabbing an ice-cream and give each other the second chance we deserve?” he stood up and kindly offered me his hand to help me get up.

“What a gentleman!” I had to comment.

“One of my many good qualities!” laughed Draco. His laughter was so clear, so full of happiness. Nothing I would ever

“But still so full of yourself... but I guess that I can get used to it...” I mused.

“You'd better!” he laughed again and I laughed along.

“So... Can I call you Draco now?” I asked a bit hesitantly.

“Sure. I mean, I guess we're friends now. Mia.”

“What?”

“Well.. Hermione is a mouthful, so I thought that Mia was kind of ideal.”

“Uh-huh. Yeah, I think I can get used to that!”

And the rest of our small walk we talked and laughed, mostly at how silly we were for not having these thoughts earlier. His life wasn't easy, but nor was mine so at a point we could feel what the other was going through. And we did get along quite well after we left aside all the prejudices that kept us apart all these years.

“Vanilla or chocolate love?” Draco asked me. And yes we were that close so he called me love. It's weird, right? But it just felt right, it felt good.

“Vanilla, thank you!” I said giving him the proper amount of money.

“No, no, no, no, no, no! You don't pay. You're a lady, a lovely one that is, (I couldn't help but blush at this) and as long as you're around me you'll never pay.”

“Well... works fine for me!” I let out a small laugh accompanied by a smile from Draco.

A couple minutes later he returned with our ice-creams, and “accidentally” put some of his on my nose. That was kind of expectable, but what surprised me was what he did next; he kissed the ice-cream off my nose.

“No, wait, what?”

“Sh.....” he shushed me by putting a finger on my lips. Surprisingly enough, it worked. And then he kissed me. Right on the lips. And it felt like heaven. It was soft, gentle, but most of all it showed me love. And I really wanted to give everything I felt back to him. And I tried. I tried to put my soul and all my emotions in that kiss, because something in the back of my mind told me that he was going to regret it.

“I know it's way too soon but I think that I'm in love with you Mia.” he whispered breathlessly once he pulled away. I could only hug him, because no words could be form in my mind to be told, my lips wouldn't move, only my hands obeyed me.

Only after a few moments I could whisper into his tight embrace that I thought that I was in love with him too, and that I knew that what we feel now is weak comparing to what will come with time, and that I didn't give a darn about time or what people will say.

And we sealed our love with one more kiss, this time better than the last, even though I didn't think that that was possible.

That's how I fell in love with Draco Malfoy.
