Chapter 12: Kissing in the Rain
“I…you didn’t want me, he did…” Hermione was stopped mid-sentence as Draco’s lips came crushing down on hers. Hermione shut her eyes and leaned into the kiss breathing Draco in and holding him against her. His hands began to wander after a few moments, up and down her back and all throughout her hair. Draco slowly picked Hermione up, balancing her on his hips and carried her over to his bedroom.
Draco slowly lay her down on his four poster bed and pulled off his shirt to reveal his beautifully toned body. Hermione bit her lip,
“What’s wrong?” Draco asked,
“I haven’t exactly...done this before” Hermione whispered, Draco smiled a lopsided smile and kissed her.
“That’s ok” he chuckled.
“No, Draco I mean it! I don’t know what I’m doing, I don’t know if this is right” Hermione spluttered.
“So you and Weaslebee never did this?” Draco asked
“No, and don’t call him that!” Hermione said blushing; she’d moved away from him now and was sitting at the edge of the bed readjusting her clothes.
“Hermione,” Draco murmured, pulling her face round so their eyes met “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine, just let everything happen naturally.” Draco’s grey eyes bore in hers and inside Hermione melted,
“But…” Hermione breathed, but Draco kissed her and all thoughts of Ron flew out of her mind. Hermione slowly removed all clothing until all she felt on her was Draco’s soft touch. Hermione held Draco’s face and looked deep into his eyes, questioning for a moment if this was right. But the kiss that followed defeated all regret, the moments after killed the pain, those few minutes eliminated the memories. They both felt whole for the first time in a long time.
“Ron…” Hermione whispered. Draco then sat up, letting the covers fall down off his body, revealing his flawless torso, Hermione gasped quietly. Draco slowly got out of the bed and proceeded to the bathroom to have a shower. Hermione followed him and saw for a second the pain in his eyes reflected in the bathroom mirror, before Draco shut the door. Hermione turned and slid down the edge of the door in despair, she heard the shower go on and eventually forced herself to get up and get dressed. Exhausted, Hermione made her way to breakfast, even though it was the best sleep Hermione had had in months. She smiled lightly at Ginny as she sat down at the Gryffindor table. Ginny immediately flew into some story about someone, Hermione wasn’t really listening but she was happy to just zone out and nod politely at Ginny. Ron and Harry entered the Great Hall and sat down. Ron gave Hermione a quick kiss on the cheek before digging in to all the food accessible to him. Hermione sighed and smiled at Ron.
“Hogsmeade Hermione?” Ron mumbled through his full mouth, Hermione rolled her eyes and nodded, “its just me and you today, they,” Ron gestured at Harry and Ginny with his toast “have a romantic date planned” Ron rolled his eyes and Ginny just smiled with a gooey expression on her face. Hermione smiled but inside she was screaming, Hogsmeade alone with Ron would be awful.
“I’ve got to head back early though, there’s a heads meeting” Hermione said, Ron just nodded, still eating enthusiastically. Finally he was done with breakfast and the four of them walked down to Hogsmeade together, when they reached the village Harry and Ginny went off together and Ron ushered Hermione into Honeydukes.
“Are you ok Hermione? You’ve been awfully quiet today” Ron asked, carefully comparing 2 liquorish wands.
“Yeah of course I’m fine Ron, why wouldn’t I be?” Hermione reassured him, if Ron hadn’t been so preoccupied he’d of seen the pain in her eyes, but he didn’t. After Ron had finished buying half the store Hermione suggested going to The Three Broomsticks, there would be more people there, so Hermione wouldn’t have to think about Ron. In the pub they joined Luna, Neville, Dean and Lavender and Hermione was able to just sink into the background of the group and just listen quietly to their conversation. It seemed like years till it was 3 and Hermione had to head back to school, she said her goodbyes and gave Ron a small kiss on the cheek. As Hermione reached the door of the pub another hand reached for it. Hermione looked up surprised, Draco mirrored her surprise in his eyes as he continued to pull the door open and walk out. Hermione jogged a bit to catch up with him, it was drizzling slightly. He was already halfway up the path to get to school, there was no one around. Hermione grabbed his arm and turned him to face her. Anger and pain gleamed in his grey eyes.
“Draco!” Hermione yelled as he turned away from her.
“What?! What Hermione, what do you want now?” Draco shouted “whatever happens now will mean nothing anyway, you’ll just go back to your boyfriend” He spat out the last bit with malice. Hermione flinched
“Draco, it’s not like that, you know it, it’s…complicated” Hermione said quietly
“Complicated” Draco snorted “tell me about it, you and me Hermione! What’s more complicated than that?!” Hermione’s eyes glistened as she listened to him,
“I know Draco, I mean between me and Ron, he’s my boyfriend, and I slept with you and now” one tear fell down her cheek silently. “I can’t undo it! I failed Ron, he’ll hate me”
“So it was a mistake then,” Draco whispered.
“No of course it wasn’t” Hermione screamed tears falling freely now.
“I’m glad we’re both agreed that it was a mistake then, it won’t happen again.” Draco said menacingly, but with only pain and anguish in his eyes.
“Draco! What are you talking about of course it wasn’t a mistake! I just mean if I wasn’t going out with Ron…”
“So break up with him!” Draco took a couple of steps towards her “dump him.”
“I can’t do that” Hermione whispered. Draco turned swiftly and began to walk up to the castle. “STOP!” Hermione screamed. “Draco stop! Please” Hermione’s voice broke as she burst into sobs. It began to rain, and Hermione’s hair was nearly soaked through. Draco, who was a few metres away, stopped.
“I’ve stopped Hermione, I’ve stopped for you, I’d do anything for you. But I can’t do this, you’re meant to be with him, you’ve already chosen him.”
“I can’t just break up with him and go out with you.”
“I know you can’t.” Draco murmured, he sighed heavily and the rain got heavier, the large drops intermixed with Hermione’s tears.
“Don’t just leave me” Hermione said, her eyes filled with sadness.
“What choice do I have? I’m no good for you, he’s perfect. Weasley will do good in the world and you’ll get married and have lots of ginger children. I can’t give you that Hermione. I’m nothing but an exdeath eater”
“You are so much more than that” Hermione said through her tears.
“No I’m not! That’s all I’ll ever be! An exdeath eater in love with Harry potter’s best friend, what a joke, it would go down in history” Draco spat.
“What?” Hermione said.
“That’s right, I, Draco Malfoy am completely and unconditionally in love with you. I love you.” Draco smiled in spite of himself, the words sounded so strange to him, yet so beautiful.
