Chapter 3: The Hogwarts Express
I sighed deeply as I watched my mother Disapparate, leaving me standing at Kings Cross Station with Kale standing next to me. She thought it would be nice if Kale was there with me for "emotional support" that I actually didn't need, but I didn't have the heart to tell Kale that.
I looked down at my ticket. I had to go to Platform 9 and 3/4, wait, what?! "What the hell?!" I said outloud as we walked through the station. "What's wrong?" Kale asked looking down at the ticket, "Oh, that's what's wrong. Well, how are you going to get there?"
I looked over at him, "Don't you mean how are 'we' going to get there?" He did this cute thing where he scratches his head nervously. "Um, not exactly. Sorry, Sloane, but I can't be there to see you off, I wish I could, but I'm meeting my dad. Please don't be mad." I smiled at him, there was no way I could be mad at him, he barely ever sees his dad, he's lucky to see him twice a year.
"Kale, I'm not mad at you, I completely understand. When do you need to leave?" He checked his watch and said "Right now, actually," I looked around and saw that we were on Platform 9 which meant Platform 9 and 3/4 had to be around here somewhere. I could handle finding it on my own.
"Okay," I said, "well I guess this is bye until holidays, then." Kale nodded sadly and said "I guess it is…" Suddenly I was overcome with emotion. I hugged him and said "I'll miss you," he tilted my face up and kissed me. The kiss was amazing, as usual and I didn't want it to end, but of course it did and Kale walked away, leaving me looking after him.
I looked around for Platform 9 and 3/4, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Then I saw a group of people who were defintely wizards, they had owls on their trolleys and looked out of place. I followed them. I watched as they stopped infront of the barrier between Platforms 9 and 10. Then I watched as they ran through it. Magic never ceased to amaze me.
I waited until they all went and then I went, I was scared for a moment, thinking there would be an impact, but there was none. Instead I found myself staring at a beautiful, enormous, scarlet train. I was in awe for a few seconds, then I made my way to the train. I had barely walked five steps when I found myself falling face first onto the Platform. "Son of a bitch!" I exclaimed.
I heard a boy's voice say, with no doubt, a sneer, "Watch where you're going," and then he kept walking without helping me up or anything. I got up and shouted "Excuse you, asshole!" He didn't turn around. I made sure to remember what the back of him looked like. All I could gather was he had platinum blonde hair, he was tall, and he was dressed really nice. I was pretty sure he'd be easy to recognize, I didn't think anyone else would have platinum blonde hair.
I made it to the train without being tripped again, and set out to find a compartment. I couldn't find an empty one, so I decided on one where a girl with dirty blonde hair sat reading an edition of the magazine The Quibbler upside down, she seemed a bit weird, but I didn't mind much.
"Excuse me," I said nicely, "is it okay if I sit here?" The girl looked over the magazine and said "Why, yes, of course," and then went back to reading. I grabbed my luggage and got ready to lift it up on the shelf. My trunk was quite heavy and I'm not the tallest person, so I was having a hard time, but the girl didn't seem to notice. I got half of the trunk on the shelf, but I lost my grip on it, and it came sliding down on my head.
But I felt nothing, I opened my eyes to find myself staring into amazing, bright green eyes. I studied the rest of the boy's face that had saved my head from being smashed by my heavy trunk. He had round glasses, a nice face, jet black hair.
He smiled and said "Thought you could use some help," I smiled back and said "You thought right," He pushed the rest of my trunk on the shelf.
"There you go," he said. "Thank you so much," I said. "No problem. So, is this your first year at Hogwarts?" I nodded. He held out his hand.
"Well, welcome to Hogwarts, even though we're not quite there yet. I'm Harry, Harry Potter." I knew my eyes had widened, I couldn't believe it! Harry Potter! He defeated Lord Voldemort!!
"I-I'm Sloane, Sloane Jules," I said still stunned as I shook his hand. "Nice to meet you, Sloane." He said smiling.
"You as well," "So, Sloane, is it okay if I sit with you?"
"Sure," I said.
We sat down, ignoring the girl and immediately got into conversation, until two other people walked into the compartment. A girl with bushy brown hair and a tall boy with flaming red hair and freckles. "There you are, Harry, we've been looking everywhere for you." The girl said. "You all right, mate?" The boy asked.
Harry nodded smiling at me, the boy and the girl turned their gazes to me and then looked at Harry questioningly. "Oh," Harry said motioning to me, "this is Sloane Jules, she's new to Hogwarts," I smiled and waved.
The girl smiled and said "Hello, I'm Hermione Granger," as the boy plopped down and started unwrapping the sweets Harry had bought. "And that pig over there is Ron Weasley," he simply waved and shoved a chocolate frog in his mouth.
"Nice to meet you both," I said watching Ron eat feeling both intrigued and disgusted. "If you have any questions about Hogwarts, you can either Ron or me, we're both prefects, so we'll help-" Hermione stopped talking as the compartment door slid open.
Standing in the doorway was a tall boy with platinum blonde hair and two of the dumbest looking boys I had ever laid eyes on. I quickly realized the blonde boy was the jerk who tripped me.
"Get out!" Harry shouted at him, clearly this guy was not one of Harry's friends.
"Watch the tone, Potter, let's not forget I'm a prefect, I could give you detention for that," the blonde boy smirked. He looked around the compartment "I see you still hang around with losers like Granger and Weasley," then his eyes landed on me and his tone changed. "I don't think we've met before," he said "I'm Draco Malfoy," he held his hand out.
I glared at him, "Actually, we have met, you're the asshole that tripped me on the platform. You might remember telling me to watch where I was going?" I raised my eyebrows at him waiting for him to anname.
He withdrew his hand and put on a charming smile, "Well, I assure you, had I known you were as pretty as you are I would have been much nicer to you,"
I rolled my eyes and said "I'm flattered," flatly. Draco Malfoy continued to smile, "You still haven't told me your name," "Sloane Jules," I said crossing my arms.
"That's an interesting name," Draco said "Yeah, so is Draco." I countered. He smirked and said "I like you," "Well," I said giving him my most unpleasant smile, "I can tell you the feeling is not at all mutual. Infact it's actually completely the opposite, now can you please leave? It's pretty obvious no one wants you here."
I looked around to see everyone staring at me with shocked expressions. I looked at Draco and made shooing motions at him. He raised his eyebrows at me and said "I guess we'll talk later,"
"Don't count on that," I said. Draco and the two boys he had come with turned to leave, then Draco turned back around. "By the way," he said, "nice hair" then he left.
"Well, he's a total ass," I said. "Yeah, he is," Harry said, "but you'll get used to it," "You mean I'll have to be around him more?!" I asked.
"Unfortunately, yes," Hermione answered. She then checked her watch, "Oh, Ron we have to go patrol the halls, let's go. We'll see you two later," she and Ron left.
Harry and I picked up conversation again and talked all the way to Hogwarts.
