[View Online] My First Year - I stood on Platform nine and three - quarters. Surrounded by hooting owls, purring cats and cries of excitement as people saw their friends. 'Well Nessie - ' My dad began but i cut him off. 'Don't call me that dad, you make me sound like that monster the muggles believe in!' 'Well you are my little monster Nessie!' Laughed dad,'Now, have a good term, don't get in too much trouble!' he winked at me. 'Would I ever be trouble dad?' he didn't answer me, he just gave me a look. 'Well darling, have a great time' My mother said, kissing my cheek. 'Bye mum' I said as i hugged her. 'Bye dad' I hugged him, then I turned to find James. 'Oh, make sure James behaves!' Dad called, I nodded then boarded the train. As I headed up the train to find James, I saw two people walk out a compartment, looking very angry, one was a girl with dark red hair and very beautiful eyes, the other was a thin looking boy with black greasy hair and a hooked nose, they both looked in their first year. The girl while talking to the boy walked into me. 'Oh sorry!' she said. 'Watch where your going!' the boy hissed at me. 'Severus, don't speak to her like that!' she said angrily,'I'm Lily Evans, by the way'. 'I'm Vanessa Potter. Are you a first year, too?' 'Yes and so is he,'She inclined her head to the ugly boy,'Severus Snape'. I nodded to him, I already hated him, he just looked at me as though I was a piece of dirt. 'What house do you want to be in?' I asked trying to make conversation. 'Well I don't know . . . I'm muggle born you see' Lily answered. 'Well no offence but Slytherin is not for you, Gryffindor is what house you should be in, i am probably going to be in Gryffindor, my dad was' I answered proudly, Snape gave me a mocking smile. 'You're related to that boy in that compartment, aren't you? He said the same thing and you look nearly the same!' Snape hissed at me,'Come on Lily let's go!' he shoved me hard in the shoulder and Lily threw me an apologetic look then walked off after the boy. I looked into the compartment where the Snape boy had said 'that boy' was in and sure enough my brother sat talking to a very hansome young boy. 'Hey Nessie!' James said. 'Hi, i've just met a right idiot!' I said annoyed, not even bothering to tell him off for calling me Nessie. 'Who was it?' James asked. 'His name was Severus Snape, more like Snivellus!' I hissed. 'That's the name James made up for him!' the boy laughed. 'Well look what he did to me!' I showed them my shoulder, which was already bruised and very red. 'Was he the one in the compartment before?' James asked the boy furiously. 'Yup' he said,'Who wants to bet he's in Slytherin?' . . . * * * * * * * * I walked up as she shouted my name, i sat on the stool, as soon as the old hat was placed on my head it cried,'Gryffindor!' Cheers erupted from the Gryffindor table and I ran to join James. I had been right about one thing she thought, that the girl from the train had been placed in Gryffindor. I sat beside her and she turned to me as the feast began. 'I'm sorry about Severus on the train, he was out of order' She apolagised. 'It's fine and anyway i don't care if he doesn't like me!' Lily looked a little hurt but hid it quickly. 'Do you have any family here?' She asked changing the subject. 'Yes, he's right there' I said happily pointing to where James sat across from me. 'What are you pointing at Nessie?' he asked smiling. 'Dunno but it's looking right back at me!' I retorted. 'Ooooohhh!' James and the boy from the train laughed. A boy called Remus chuckled and another boy called Peter laughed a squeaky giggle. 'Nice come back Ness' James said giving me a nuckle punch. 'I no James, he told me it when we were getting off the train' I smiled, pointing at the boy from the train. 'Who are you?' I asked him. 'Sirius Black' 'You're future husband' James said. 'No he isn't!' l laughed. I turned back to Lily, who was laughing at the boys,'Sorry about that, so do you have any family here?' 'No I don't as I said I'm muggleborn'. 'Don't call yourself a muggleborn, you're a Witch!' I said annoyed. 'Yeah you're right!' Lily smiled at her. * * * * * * * * 'Lily how can you be that good at Potions? It's only been a week!' I whined coming out of the Potions classroom. 'I don't know!' Lily laughed. 'Why did you sit with Sniv - Snape?' I asked stopping myself before calling him by his nickname. 'Because he asked me too!' 'He's a Slytherin!' I hissed 'So?' Lily asked eyebrow raised. 'Nothing!' I said hastily. * * * * * * * * 'Silence please!' Sirius' voice called, it was so loud everyone in the hall became quiet instantly. 'Mr Potter has an anouncement to make!' Sirius anounced. I went bright red, i knew what was going to happen, please no, mabea it isn't. 'Lily Evans' James began, yep he's going to do it,' Will you be my wife?' The hall was suddenly filled with laughter. Lily was so embaressed her face matched her hair. I did all I could not to laugh. The hall went quiet as they waited for Lily's answer. 'James Potter, i hate you' She said mortified then got up from the bench and ran out, I got up after her just as people started laughing again. 'Lily i'm sorry! I didn't think he'd go through with it!' I said trying not to laugh as I caught up to her. 'You knew?' Lily said outraged as we made our way up the moving stairs. 'Yeah, but like I said I didn't think he'd go through with it!' 'This is James we're talking about!' 'Yeah but I never thought he'd propose to you infront of the whole school!' I laughed. 'You think this is funny? . . . Hippogriff!' Lily almost screamed the password at the Fat Lady. We walked into the empty common room. 'Potter would do anything to annoy me, I hate him!' She screamed. 'If you haven't noticed Evans, that Potter is my brother and I won't let you say crap about him!' I shouted and ran up to my dormitory. I lay on my bed, i didn't know how long I was just lying there but soon I could here the students coming through the portrait hole, laughing and talking about what just happened at the feast. 'Nessie?' Lily's voice called through the door. 'What?' I said harshly. 'Black wants you' I got up and not meeting Lily's eyes, walked past her. 'Nessie!' Sirius' voice called. 'Yes?' 'Did you like dinner tonight?' He asked winking at me. 'You shouldn't of done that you know? Lily's upset with me . . . where's James?'
