Chapter 9: Of Apologies and Squids

Beautiful Chapter Image by FIND! @ tda.
Tamara Jones :)

“I just don’t get it.” Molly complained angrily, kicking the door to her wardrobe. “Does he have a death wish?”

Hollie sighed and stood up from the bed. “I just can’t believe that he would call you something like that?” she pulled Mol away from the cupboard. “I though he liked you, I mean, liked you liked you.”

“I hoped.” I said quietly, swinging my legs over the end of my bed, my knees resting over the headboard. It was early Saturday morning – I’m talking 1 or 2am.

I returned that awful night a few weeks ago to find Tammy tied up in the bathtub and most of my belongings lying safely on my bed. Hollie and Russ had checked basically everything that I had brought, with the help of Scorpius and Al. How the heck had she even managed to get the clips to seem that big? Right, she used her wand. We had conveniently left ours on Molly’s bedside-bloody-table.

No one has talked about the incident – I’m sure that it has something to do with Russell and Molly, they came in the other night looking murderous … and the Slytherins’ are always looking a little scared when they’re around.

I feel for a few of them, I know how an angry Molly could be. I think that she was just upset that she had gone and got herself hammered so that she couldn’t have taken Tamara out on the spot.

The next day James had attempted to talk to me a total of 7 times, the day after that, 9 times. The number rises as the days pass. But to be honest, what is there to say? Nothing, that’s what.

His jumper is hung up on the wall by Molly’s bed, three darts sticking out of its collar. It was more of one of Hollie’s impulses than anything else. A little mean I guarantee. But also fun. It’s more productive than jumping on it like I did on the first night. But then I was also in tears, I doubt that I would have been able to work a dart without piercing one of their skulls, or maybe on of Tammy’s chicken fillets.

“It’s been two weeks.” Molly said slowly. “He’s still attempting to apologize.” She sat up straight. “Can’t you just attempt to forgive him?”

“He called me a French prostitute Molly.” I said astonished. “How do I forgive him?”

“I don’t know.” She simply. “But I know that he really is sorry.”

“Josh says that he’s unbearable.” Hollie said, sitting on the end of my bed.

“Doesn’t he usually?”

“Well, yeah, I guess he kinda does.” She admitted carefully. “But apparently it’s worse than usual. In his DADA lesson’s the boys don’t know what to do with him.”

Molly sighed. “For the sake of us all Georgie, can you at least say that you forgive him?” There was a pause. “Please?”

“You know.” Hollie said smiling. “I think that’s the first time that I have ever heard Molly Weasley say please.”

I giggled. “Hollie tell me you had that on video tape.” That was the moment I had a pillow to my face.

“Listen.” Molly said, retracting her arms away from the pillow so that I could breathe once again. “Do you hear that?”

Hollie laughed. “Is it G’s mental thoughts on how to destroy you or her ragged breathing now she can respire once more?”

“No, although that is a rather large part of the sound” Thwack with her pillow. “Ok firstly – ow Georgie, and second, I think that I hear Tamara coming up the stairs.”

“With what?” Hollie asked sarcastically. “Your crazed superhuman bat hearing? I think not.”

Cue Tammy opening the door. “Go crazed superhuman bat hearing.” I supported, picking back up my book and reading.

Since the incident, the girls have taken a small liking to ruining any part of Tamara’s life that they possibly can. I have already mentioned the bathtub incident. There was also the dyeing her hair permanent green, waking her up at half past 4 … every morning.

My personal favourite had to be when they shrunk all of her clothes and hung them from the top of the Astronomy Tower. Let’s say Tammy got a shock when she went to her 10pm Astronomy lesson and found her bra’s in the seat of Fred Weasley. Apparently he took his clothes off, put on Tammy’s and refused to take them off, but instead do impressions.

The teachers are trying to keep that on the hush hush.

I refuse to take part though. There’s no way that I am going to sink to her level. The girls though … they don’t give a damn. From what I’ve heard, they’ve already sunk lower – way lower.

McGonagall went nutters. Tammy had letters wrote to her parents, she was made to clean the courtyard and publically apologize to me. It was great actually.

I kicked the box of dung bombs back under my bed. Considering we set them off in the Dungeons last week, if they were found, we’d be dead meat.

There was a little screaming coming from the bathroom – enough to interrupt me from my book. I felt bad; I’ve got to admit that. Tammy’s learnt her lesson, and she didn’t exactly get to finish her ‘prank’ on me. So what’s the point of hurting her? Upon asking Molly, the answer I received … wait for it … duh duh duh duh …

… It’s fun.

- The words of a true and unfortunate Gryffindor.

I met Rose Weasley in the library last Monday. I was sitting with Josh when she joined out table piled with books. She’s actually really sweet, a lot like a calm Molly in some ways. She and Scorp are good for each other.

“Scorp told me what you said to James.” She admitted happily. “I just wanted to say thank you.”

How either of them knew what I had told Potter was a mystery to me. We were at least 40 feet away. It really was a rather large pond.

Molly says that I’m lucky – I forever have Rose Weasley on my side. If anything bad happens, it’s better to have her fighting with you, rather than against. Why Molly thought that Rose owed me anything was another mystery. Or the fact that she suspected a family war.

Molly waddled back out from the bathroom, a pink streak in her hair. I opened my mouth to ask abo- “Tammy’s aim’s a little off.” I laughed. “But, to be honest, I think that I kinda like it.”

Hollie walked out rubbing her hands together, “So,” she said happily. “We’re having a girls night.”

I stood up from my bed. “But what about Tammy?” They looked at each other and shrugged. She was probably locked up in the shower again. They closed the door over and dragged me out of the room.

“It’s better that you don’t know. She’ll escape soon enough.” Hollie said grinning. “We didn’t tie the ropes too tightly.”

“You really have to stop bullying Tamara. You’re getting to the point when you’re just as bad as her.” I cried, pulling myself from their grip.

Molly sighed and looked at our friend. “I guess you’re right G.” I nodded. “We’ll use the bogey bat hex on her tomorrow and then pack it in.”

I shrugged. “Ok then.” What? I wasn’t going to get a better offer than that. And seriously; the bogey bat hex is fun to watch.

“I hope that you’re wearing decent undies George.” Molly said, half laughing.

I blinked. “And why’s that?”

“Because we’re having a girl’s night out.” I stared at Hollie a little confused.

“And that involves my underwear … how?”

Molly perked up a few steps down from the two of us. “Well, we’re going swimming.”

“Swimming?” I asked, half laughing. “It’s really cold.”

“It’s Scotland, It’s always really cold.” Hollie argued. “Now suck it up Blondie.” I punched her playfully and jumped down the stairs – mainly to get away from her menacing glare.

Molly grabbed my hand and pulled my past the front doors. We took a passage way behind a tapestry and ended up somewhere around the Hogwarts Grounds, somewhere I didn’t recognize. Hollie ran ahead, down the sloping grounds of Hogwarts towards the dark lake.

“Are you sure that thing isn’t toxic?” I asked laughing. Instead of a normal lake-ish blue, the colour was mistier, defiantly more … magical. If that’s even a half was decent term to describe the lake that I am sure I have seen actually bubble before.

Molly laughed. “Toxic .. no.” I let out a breath I didn’t know that I was holding. “Home to a rather large and possibly fatal giant squid.”

“Excuse me?”

Hollie laughed. “Don’t panic G. its fine. Gerard, as Fred named it, is noting but nice. It’s the Merpeople and Grindylows that you have to worry about.” She said happily before skipping off even further and stopping by the bank of the lake.

“We went skinny dipping in here once before.” Molly said quietly as we reached a rather large oak tree.

“Well what happened?” I asked. “Considering that you asked me about my underwear and I’m pretty sure that you’re interested in the male sex, we’re not repeating the fun of skinny dipping.”

“Nahh.” She said smiling. “We had stripped off and jumped in the lake when McGonagall and Slughorn found us.” I cringed. “It wasn’t the best of our memories when they ordered us to get out of the lake.”

“Slughorn is such a pervert.” Hollie called, laughing as she pulled pieces of hair away from her eyes.

“I’m sure he was eyeing up Fred.” Molly said as she pulled off her jumper and chucked it at the bottom of the tree.

I copied her action and placed my long sleeved blue cardie by a rather large and spindly root. “And why are we doing this exactly?” I asked after a pause.

“Well you need cheering up.” Molly said giving my hand a quick squeeze. “And it’s also part of the leaving list.”

“But it’s only November.” I pleaded. “Couldn’t we wait until summer? We’ll die in there.”

“No we won’t.” Hollie argued as she jumped up on to a branch about five foot above the ground. “When our parents were at Hogwarts their headmaster – The great Albus Dumbledore – warmed up the lake all year round. So unlike the one in Hogsmeade, this lake will never freeze.”

“It will just be cold.” A deep voice said from behind, wrapping their arms around my stomach and lifting me up.

“Russell! You put me down!” I cried as he motioned throwing me in to the lake. “Russell!” I squealed. My voice beginning to resemble a child’s, once again, I giggled.

Molly watched in amusement as I struggled in Russell’s arms (wearing only my pyjamas, i.e. small shorts and a tank) as he threw me in to the lake, clothes and all. Frick, Hollie was right about the temperature. The hairs on all of my body stood up as I burst through the surface, treading water in the deep lake.

“I am going to-“ Splash!

Russell jumped in after me half taking me back under with him. One again coming up for air I screamed and dunked him. He came back up, shaking his hair in my face like a wet dog as I screamed bloody murder. I lazily pushed my hair back from my face, the straightness slowly coming out and the frizzy curls coming back in.

“You like that?” he whispered to me.

I laughed. “No I did not bloody like that.” I accompanied it with a splash. “How did you know we were coming here?”

“You’re as loud as guns you lot are, woke me up and all. We thought we might join you.” I grinned and flicked water in his face. “Molly get you’re arse in here woman!” he called, wrapping his arms around my neck and pushing me under every now and again – my wet clothes dragging me down. Russell had oh so conveniently taken his off before jumping in and was currently attempting to puff down his light blue boxers that were very visible through the weightless water of the lake.

“Molly, come on.” I called. “It’s actually not as cold as you expect.”

She laughed. “So that’s why you’re hugging your arms to your body?” I looked down; I didn’t realize that I was. I immediately ripped my shivering hands from my arms and began to tread water through Russell’s tight grasp around my waist.

“No thanks.” She said. “I think I’ve changed my mi-“

“Push!” Fred commentated as he shoved her forward face forward in to the lake.

“FRED!” She screeched as she got back up and wrapped her wet arms around his body. He laughed and threw her over his shoulder before running towards the lake and pathetically bomb diving to within a few feet of Russell and me.

I looked up towards the tree to get Hollie and saw the one and only James ‘Git’ Potter. He stood infront of the tree as he pulled off his t-shirt, revealing a rather nice set of muscles. No, I mustn’t look. What the heck? I’m a prostitute after all right?

I wriggled out of Russell’s grasp and swam over to Rory who was attempting to grab Hollie’s trousers off the shore of the lake.

“You’re so childish.” I said grinning, as I pulled myself up on to the bank.

“While you’re up there can you pass me her clothes love?” I rolled my eyes and kicked his in to the lake. “OI!

Russ swam over in hysterics as he picked back up Rory’s clothes and threw them at me. I glared at the tears of laughter rolling down his cheeks as I pulled a rather old pair of sweats off my head. “You’re so not funny.”

“James get in here before all the good water’s weed in.” Rory called, dunking a rather annoyed look Russell under the water. He came back up and slowly spat a mouthful of water from his mouth to a carefully placed spot in Rory’s right eye.

Russell is still annoyed at James for what he said to me, from what Molly says, they haven’t really spoken properly since. I told him to ignore it, I wasn’t worth ruining his friendship, but he wouldn’t have any of it.

“Nice and mature Russ.” I said, still standing on the bank.

He laughed. “Yeah, yeah, that all great and stuff. Now get you’re kit off and jump back in.” Molly smacked him over the head.

“You’re such a pervert.” She scolded before reaching over the bank of the lake and yanking my trousers down to my ankles. “Just trying to help.” She shrugged as Russell stared open mouthed.

“Merlin’s testicles G.” He said, staring at my legs. “I knew that you and the girls are a good looking team, but I didn’t know you are the legs of the trio.” I rolled my eyes and stepped out of the trousers that were mortifyingly still around my ankles.

“Oi. Fred.” Russell called. “Catch a load of this! Lads, you can not go home without catching a glimpse of Georgie’s leggies!”

Molly slapped him over the back of the head … again. “Are you done embarrassing her now?”

Russ blinked. “Done? No my dear, we are merely getting s-“ Dunk, lots of spluttering sounds, evil glare.

“Thanks G.” Molly said, as I pulled my foot from Russell’s head. “Now leave her to undress in peace.”

I smiled and pulled off my t-shirt and chucking it down by Hollie’s. I was slightly thankful that today was the day that I had chosen to wear my lacey black hipster pants and a white lace plunge bra. The fact that today was the day I was wearing my slightly sexier stuff just happened to be the day that I was to show it to a group of boys. Thanks girls.

They were my lucky undies; childish, I know. But I had a Charms exam today and really wanted to pass. I had done an all nighter revision session with Russ and Molly last night to make up for all of the fooling around we had managed to commit within the past week – neglecting the revision and homework for as long as possible.

Rory’s jaw seemed unable to close; I glared and attempted to get back in just as Fred happened to notice me. “Torturing undies Georgie.” He smirked, raising an eyebrow at my under-dressed body.

“Shut up Fred. Now are you going to help me and Molly dunk Russ properly or not?” I asked as I rubbed my arms back to warmth.

“Georgie, as long as you’re wearing that … I’ll follow you anywhere.”

Russ came to my rescue by pulling me in further and splashing me with a large amount of foul tasting water. “If I’d known that G was wearing her hipsters then I wouldn’t have come out here.” Hollie said teasingly.

Molly laughed. “Well I happen to think from Rory’s face, he’s mighty glad she did.”

“Yeah, guy’s?” I said questioningly. “He’s really freaking me out.” I said once I had their attention.

Molly tightened her bra strap. “He freaks us all honey, he freaks us all.”

“And you felt the need to say that statement twice because?”

“Because he’s freaky.”

I sighed. “Got it.” I turned to Fred. “Oh, and Freddy, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Sure you don’t.” He teased. “But don’t get to close to Rory tonight; I don’t want to have to fight the boys off of you.”

“Fight the boys? And how exactly would you do that?” I asked with an eye roll.

He thought about it for a moment. “Well, I guess I would call Russell and together we would go all Kung Fu on their arses!”

“Or you could use your brain.” Molly said. “There’s a first time for everything.” Splash.

“George, you’re going up!” Russell called, swimming over and lifting me on to his shoulders.

It began to snow once more; little droplets of sleet splattered my face as I attempted to push Hollie off of Fred’s shoulders. I could hear the shouting of my friends. It’s a wonder McGonagall hasn’t marched out here yet with her wand and a rather large beating stick. I pushed Hollie off twice and dived forwards in to the water. The snow was landing delicately on to my skin, pushing me further and further on to the edge of pneumonia.

I huddled deeper in to the water, if that’s even possible. “Georgie.” Molly would have shouted, but it wasn’t her, due to the clattering of her teeth and the fact she was dunked under the water by her cousin. My name was said spoken anyway; the deep voice that always had the ability to make me shiver. James. His green eyes overflowing with emotion as his shaggy black hair fell loosely in to his eyes.

“I have nothing to say to you.” I said quietly before attempting to swim away. He loosely grabbed my wrist. I had the ability to pull away, but I didn’t. “What do you want Potter?” He flinched, slightly startled by my tone.

“To talk.” He said slowly. “To apologize.”

I had my best glare on my face. “I don’t need an apology, I’m a prostitute. I get insulted all of the time.”

“Oh grow up G.” He snapped. I turned away and looked to Molly who just gave me an apologetic shrug. I turned my back once more and began to leave. He grabbed my arm this time, like it was his only hop and pulled me back.

“Let go of me James.”

“No, please. Just let me explain … this is the first … I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.” He stammered as my eyes still burned with anger.

“No, you’ve made yourself perfectly clear. There’s no other way you could mean that.” My voice was emotionless. I want nothing more than to evaporate from this exact spot. I have no tolerance for this; I’ve used it all on Rory while he oogles at my butt.

“I mean. I need to grow up.” He looked so dejected, so despondent that I stood on my tip toes in the water, resting on a small amount of bank. “I overreacted – ok, huge understatement. When I saw the pictures that Jones plastered all over the courtyard, I just got … I got … well, jealous. I guess.”

“And you got jealous why?” I asked quietly. “Usually jealousy doesn’t turn people in to prats.”

He replied gently. “You’d be surprised at what jealousy can do to people.” His raw honesty shocked me a little.

“What are we doing?” I whispered, still shaking a little from the snow. James looked up a little confused. It was obvious that he was attempting to apologize to me. But what I really meant was; what am I doing? “I mean, why are we fighting? Tamara always manages to bring out the worst in people. That other night really did, it brought out the worst in both of us.”

“G, what are you sayi-“

“I’m saying, I’m willing to forgive you, give you another chance … If you’re willing to forgive me.”

He looked up, confused. “There’s nothing for you to be sorry for.”

I smirked a little. “I’m sure there’s something.”

“You could be sorry for wearing that, I don’t think Rory’s ever going to be the same again.” I nodded, still unable to smile. I wondered what Albus would have said.

“Let’s just forget this.” I said quietly. “Move on.”

He nodded. “I’d be eternally grateful.” He pulled me in to a hug. After all that he’d done to me, he still had the ability to make my heart melt. I shivered, this time, actually from the cold. “You’re freezing.” He whispered in to my hair.

“I’ll get over it.”

He shook his head, pulling back from our embrace. “No, you’re getting out.” He jumped up on to the muddy bank, next to where we stood and actually pulled me out by my hands, catching me and placing me delicately on to the ground as I landed on my tip toes. If I wasn’t still a little angry at him – and we weren’t in our underwear – this would have been a magical moment.

“Oi!” Molly yelled from the middle of the lake. “Have you two made up yet?”

James looked to me and I nodded. “Yeah, yeah we have.” I swear I actually saw his smile, and I mean smile. Not smirk, the trademarked James Potter smirk that he is oh so famous for. I mean a natural, actually self deserved and happy smile.

It was the most beautiful thing in the world.

Happy? I am so awfully sorry about the wait for the update. I am completing another one of my stories and then realized (stupidly) that I only had a few chapters left of this before I ran out. I mentally bashed my head against my desk and got to writing.
I realise that this chapter has answered absolutely none of your questions. But I hope that you like it anyway.

Chapter 10?

“If I say yes?” he asked, still watching me.

“Then I smile.”

“And if I say no?”

I shrugged in what was hopefully a nonchalant manner. “Then I violently kick your arse.”
