Chapter 1: The White Room.
There were no windows, doors or lights in the room. The walls and floor were perfectly white, gleaming unnaturally. It was a perfect square, exactly even, yet small. Claustrophobic.
It was quiet. A loud silence; the sort that lifted the hairs on your neck and screamed at you to run away.
A figure stood alone in the middle of the room, completely still. His eyes were emotionless, pale grey and shielded. His face was impassive, a perfect mask of indifference. He was utterly drab and insignificant to the unearthly white light that effused from the walls.
But the light, which usually convinced scared children of normality and sanity, did not persuade the boy. There was something wrong with this room.
A scream rent the air, slitting through the horrible silence. It was a pitiful, high-pitched noise that echoed round the room eerily.
It was no good. He was... trapped. Was he imagining it? It was unreal; the gleaming whiteness of the walls, the way the light bounced off of the wall... Wait, what light? Was he going mad.. Was he seeing things? He reached out pale fingers and touched the wall as if to check it was really there and not a figment of his mind. It wasn't; he felt it's cool smoothness, and recoiled as if it had burned him.
He ran circles round the room. He banged incessantly on the wall with his fist, sometimes punching it with frustration. His foot collided with the floor, stomping on it with reluctant strength. His body didn't want to cooperate with him; it cried in protest, the tears red. The floor opened, opened like a black hole, sucking him into nothingness. Even through the cruel blackness he emerged, unchanged and once again, caged inside the room.
The room itself was perfectly shaped, an equal square, it's walls immaculately white, no fault in anything. The boy was broken. Messy. Like a neatly lined picture with the colours painted outside the lines. His was imperfect and therefore useless, weak and disposable. A blotch on the canvas that could be replaced without second thought.
He screamed again, though he knew it was fruitless. No one would hear him. No one would care. He fell to the floor and struck the floor with his fists. His breath was rattling, as if it were dragged through his chest.
He was still once more, unmoving and blank. His face was hideously pale. Red-tinged tears fell down his cheeks, dripping onto the floor, dissolving into nothing. There was no one there to stop them.
The boy suddenly rose, his body rising gracefully into mid-air, elongating into a horizontal form.
And that was where he stayed, floating. He crashed to the ground with a sickening thud, but he did not move in protest. He deserved this, he knew, he would try again. He rose, and fell three times more, but did not react. His eyes were open, looking spectral-like and empty. His face was expressionless. His soul was agonised and tainted, more than any young man's should be. His mind was blank, nothing registered in his brain. As though all of his humanly reactions were gone.
Maybe they were. His past, present and future were unfamiliar to him, as if taken from another. His life was thrust forward into evil and darkness with no bright tomorrow, and definitely no choice. Was this atonement? It was his fault, he knew, all his fault.. He was stretched, pulled and moulded unwillingly by someone's elses hand. If he had his own way, maybe things would have been different, maybe not. There was nothing to do about it now.
What were his thoughts? In constant flow, they were centred on surviving. Don’t be killed. Do what you must to survive. Was this selfish? Maybe he was supposed to die.
Maybe it would be better.
Author'sNote: So I wanted to give you all an insight on what Draco Malfoy was thinking in the times of Half Blood Prince. It was rather difficult to write, and probably doesn't make much sense, but I suppose that's the point. I wanted to convey a sense of claustrophobia, and trying to acheive something but failing and falling.
EDIT: 11/08/2010. I've changed this majorly, or at least that's what I think. I hope it's better. Please review, and tell me.
