People that I’ve never met before are coming up to me and asking if I’m ok. I’m the latest gossip and it’s like being a celebrity. Selena shoves her way through the crowd violently, glaring at anyone who offers me flowers or candy. “ What’s your problem? They’re just making sure I’m ok.” I protest, because I really want that chocolate she just pushed me by. “ Ella, they’re vultures. They want to pick at your carcass and spread it around the school to the other scavengers.” I blink. “ That’s rather dark. Are we talking about gossiping or me being eaten?” “ Forget it.” Selena storms away looking irritated and I start to unpack. I go about it sort of slow because I know that if my mother packed the ‘present’ Scorpius gave me I am going to pitch a fit that would shame every other fit I’ve ever thrown. I’m feeling fine after my little dehydration episode, and completely ready to take down anyone who bugs me. Rose Weasley comes into the dorm and sees me, then turns red and looks down. Neither of us say anything, far too embarrassed to try and alleviate the tension. I’m too busy wondering if James has told her what any part of my anatomy looks like, and I’m sure if he has then she’s wondering why my left is slightly larger than the right. That’s highly disturbing. She goes about her business normally, and I try to seem occupied with my trunk. As soon as I can I rush down to the Great Hall for lunch, where I find myself mostly alone. The only other people at the table are a few third years who seem pretty absorbed in their reflections in the plates, and some sixth year boys who’re conversing loudly about Quidditch. For the first time in a while no one is gawking at me or talking about the little thing inside me. It’s nice. Classes start like normal, and it’s almost like I’m just a fifth year again. Not the fifth year who slept with James Potter and is now carrying his young. Just Ella. That never sounded better. I get out of Defense Against the Dark Arts and head up the stairs to the Gryffindor common room. Needless to say I’m huffing like a madwoman as I crawl desperately through the portrait hole. And it’s red-faced, puffy, sweating me that discovers James has sunk even lower on the moral totem pole. “ Potter?!” James seems to be able to pull his face off the girl he’s snogging to look at me after I yell at him. He grins stupidly and waves at me like I’m not the mother of his child and he’s not tongue wrestling with another girl right in front of me. “ Oh…hello Ella!” I can feel my eye twitching as I prowl over to them. It makes me even angrier to find that he’s entangled with a particularly attractive member of the female species. Ok, maybe she’s fucking gorgeous. Who really cares about something like that right now? “ Hello? What do you think you’re doing?” My half-hearted attempt to be calm and collected fails and I settle on just being blindingly furious. An innocent look that’s as transparent as glass comes over James’s stupid face. “ What’re you talking about? Oh, Holly this is Ella. Ella this is Holly.” “ Hi. I’m Holly.” He has impeccable taste in women. While being able to function well enough to survive it seems this girl has lost her last remaining brain cells to hairspray long before now. “ Charmed. James, can we talk?” I stomp into the corner to wait, tapping my foot impatiently. Realizing I look like my mother when she’s pissed I stop and clench my fists. “ What?” James snaps when he can get away from Holly. “ Would you mind telling me what that was? Soon people are going to know I’m…with child, and they’re also going to know you’re the father.” He snorts like that’s ridiculous. “ So? In case you haven’t noticed I’m not the one getting stared at regarding our encounter.” James nods over my shoulders and I look around the common room. Sure enough several faces turn away right as my eyes pass over them, most of them blushing. Some of them don’t even bother to look away and just keep whispering. My face feels hot as I try to compose myself to talk to James again. “ That isn’t the point. Apparently your dear cousin isn’t that great at keeping a secret. Everyone knows what happened between us. Soon they’ll know about L.P.” “ L.P.?” asks James, bewildered. “ I sort of gave the kid a nick name.” “ What does it stand for?” “ Little Problem.” I mumble. “ Nice, Malfoy. Anyway, why do you care who I snog? You said yourself that you don’t want me near the you or L.P.” I don’t know what to say to that, so to cover I just glare at him for a moment. “ Well…maybe I don’t want you to be completely excluded from L.P.’s life. You are its father after all.” “ I wouldn’t want to get in your merry little way. There’s no reason for anyone to know it’s mine anyways. To the knowledge of the public you sleep around.” James starts to walk away, leaving me fuming, but he turns around looking suspicious. “ Unless…you didn’t tell your parents did you? Not that it’s mine?” “ It may have come up.” “ Are you daft? Now they’ll tell my parents!” “ You are a horrible, horrible person! How could you dare to even think you could just let me do this alone? I am not ready to be a mother!” I cry, tearing up. James looks for a split second like he’s sorry, but he quickly goes back to looking haughty and stupid. “ I don’t think we need to tell my parents.” “ You’re mental, that’s what you are. No sane person would say things like that. Your parents are going to find out if my parents know. Don’t be stupid.” I turn on my heel and stomp away, making sure I step heavily on his toe first. I hate that boy. Somebody needs to step in my way so I can vent a little. All this pent up frustration probably isn’t good for me. I’ll have an aneurysm or something. Selena still isn’t anywhere to be found, so I find myself spending the rest of the evening alone. She only turns up near the end of the day, sneaking into dorm like a prowler. By the looks of it she’s missing a shoe and her robes seem to be on backwards. I click on the light next to my bed and she jumps about a foot in the air. “ Where’ve you been?” I ask suspiciously. Her lipstick is smudged. “ W-with Antony. Where else?” “ No you haven’t. You don’t care who knows when you’ve been with him. Why are you sneaking around?” “ God, Ella. A side effect of pregnancy isn’t nosiness. Mind your own business for Christ’s sake. Maybe I was just in the bathroom.” My eyebrows shoot up as she shuts her bed curtains around herself. Selena rarely gets snappy with me. Or lies for that matter. This is the first time in our far-too-long friendship when I’ve ever wondered what she’s been up to. Selena’s never been secretive about her love life. Especially not with me. I get up and walk over to her bed. “ You don’t lie. You don’t sneak around. Something’s going on.” “ I don’t need to tell you everything.” “ You tell me everything, especially things I don’t want to hear. So, what’s going on?” “ Ella, I swear. This is not the time, ok? Let’s just go to bed.” Reluctantly I get back under my covers and lay there pondering for a few hours. Selena would probably hide it from me if she killed someone. Well, that depended on who she killed actually. She would tell me if it was anything serious, like if she was pregnant too. God that would be sad. She would tell me if…no…maybe she wouldn’t. Oh my god. * At breakfast I sit at the far end of the table, hiding my face and watching for Selena. Someone sits across from me and I jump. It’s Roxanne. “ What are you doing, Ella?” she asks. “ Shh. I think Selena’s cheating on Antony.” Roxanne raises her eyebrows. “ The gorgeous Ravenclaw boy? Juicy.” She leans in closer and we both watch. I never would have guessed that I’d ever be staking out my best friend with Roxanne Weasley, but here I am. Roxanne seems to have experience in the espionage area, because her face is dead serious as she waits with me. This feels weird. “ You er…don’t have to join me, Roxanne.” I say uncomfortably. “ Oh, I want to. This is fun.” Maybe she hasn’t noticed how I don’t really enjoy her company. Whatever suits her. Hopefully Rose won’t come along though, because I’m pretty sure she’s heard a detailed description of my…parts. Obviously I’m not ready to be a mother because even thinking the word ‘parts’ I want to laugh. Oh, there’s Selena. “ She usually goes over to kiss Antony in the morning.” I point out as we watch Selena take a seat and sigh. Roxanne grabs my arm and pulls me under the table. I look at her, frustrated and confused, and she pulls out her wand. “ I learned this truck from my dad. It’s real nifty if you’re spying.” She mutters something and a little bubble pops up in front of us and Roxanne whispers ‘Selena Perez’ into it. There she is! “ By George, Roxanne, that’s excellent.” I gasp. “ You know my dad?” “ Er…no.” **A/N: Haha. I wanna see who gets that joke. It’s lame but I like it ^_^** “ Oh…well thanks. Keep it down though. Oh, look! She’s going over to the Slytherin table.” Unconsciously I feel my face getting closer and closer to the bubble until I’m nearly touching it. Roxanne is looking just as intent next to me, her eyes bright at the prospect of gossip. I’m so glad that I’m not like that. Gossip can rarely get a scoff out of me, if anything. Selena is a different story though. As I’ve said many times now, she DOESN’T lie to me. We know everything about one another. “ Oh my lord.” Roxanne’s voice sounds distant, because I’m seriously doubting that I’m awake. This is a horrible, horrible nightmare and I’m going to wake up in a cold sweat and be nauseous for a few hours. Then I’m going to go find Selena, have a good laugh about the sheer ridculosity (p.s. that isn’t a word) of this event. “ Ella…is she…snogging your brother?” A lump rises in my throat, and I try desperately to keep it down. “ Yes, that would be Scorpius.” “ Look at them go!” “ Not helping, thank you very much, Roxanne.” “ Sorry.” All I can do is watch in shock as Selena tongues my brother ferociously. I’m not focusing on the fact that he’s my brother, or that she has a boyfriend, or that hot bile is rapidly clawing it’s way up my throat. The main thing that’s bothering me is that she never told me she liked him, or that she was going to cheat on Antony. How could she keep something this big from me? Roxanne screams just as I realize that I’m indeed getting sick. “ Ew! Ella, that’s so gross!” She scrambles away from me and out from under the table, leaving me feeling dejected and altogether awful. And to top it all off, my throw-up got all over my shoes. “ What the hell, Ella?! These are my new socks!” squeals Roxanne’s voice from somewhere above me. I crawl out from under the table after cleaning up my puke with my wand and look around the Great Hall. Seems I’ve caused quite a scene by throwing up, even thought it was under a table. Roxanne still looks aghast and Rose is next to her now, glaring at me. “ Everybody’s going to find out eventually, Malfoy.” she sneers. “ I’m pregnant.” I mumble, feeling embarrassed. But I’d much rather it be me saying it than Little Miss Perfect Weasley Bitch, if you know what I mean. “ Ms. Malfoy!” gasps Flitwick. I fix my eyes on the picture of Dumbledore on the wall, who’s smiling at me very kindly instead of gaping at me like his successor. Why did that old bugger have to die before I got here? “ Good job, Malfoy. You’re just as good a parent as a Death Eater.” My mother and I stand at the exact same moment and glare furiously at Rose’s father. Her mum stands up next and glares right back at us. The tension is so thick I can nearly taste all the bitter hate polluting the atmosphere. “ Sit down, please!” Flitwick squeaks, ears flopping madly. As she settles down my mother nods. “ Yes, we need to discuss this rationally.” “ Ah…I don’t know if we should be here.” Rose’s mum says uncomfortably. Dad grimaces at her. “ Yes, why don’t you call in the Potters.” For a moment everybody besides me, Rose, and my parents look confused. Then an eruption that makes me cover my ears comes from the Weasleys, and it looks like they’re yelling at me and my family again. Flitwick gets the order back again fairly quickly. “ We should call in the Potters. And Mister Albus or James?” asks Flitwick. Oh, boy. I look at my shoes. “ Er, James.” Rose’s dad groans and slaps himself in the forehead. Yeah, I know that feeling. Flitwick leaves with a heavy sigh and he tells Rose and her parents that they can leave, and I fear that maybe my parents will turn into murderers, but nobody says a word. They leave my parents and me sitting uncomfortably to wait. I start to breath a little heavier. “ Calm down, Ella.” Mum says tiredly. “ I can’t really calm down. More people that hate me are about to come in here and I’m going to tell them that I’m having their grandchild. The most non-horrifying thing that could happen would be they’ll yell at me then leave.” Dad rolls his eyes. “ Quit being so melodramatic.” Mum and I round on him. “ Melodramatic?” “ Are you kidding me, Draco?” We don’t have much time to yell at him more because Flitwick’s quick little steps come back in the room, followed by a few more normal sounding footsteps. “ What’s going on, Professor?” a female voice says behind me. Then I freeze. Because the Potters are here. A/N: PLEASE READ! Thank you once more to anyone who’s read this, your comments mean the world to me. I do need some help though.
