'Blood'

It had been in the back of her mind since that night. A burning sensation that kept her on her toes ever since.  As she leaned in closer, she could taste his warm breath, and worse yet, feel his heart picking up speed. She involuntarily licked her lips and let her instincts take over, hoping for his sake they were human...

                                           Chapter 1: Just One Week

One week, just one week ago the entire wizarding world was changed. We are now on our knees to Voldemort. He had finally won. We were on one side and he was on the other. On our side were the worst creatures imaginable- vampires, werewolves, and all of the other creatures that you would only see in your nightmares. In one night we had all went to the bottom of the food chain. We are like worms lying on a cement path on a blazing hot day, with nowhere to go. Just waiting to die. And that was exactly what was happening; we were slowly dying off. Everyday I would here about another one of my schoolmates or Order members getting their blood drained from them, or getting eaten up like another simple snack to these monsters.

These beasts were hurting everyone... including me.

It was a few days ago. I had just met Harry and Ron at the Burrow. We had talked about when an Order meeting was. We had heard nothing from them ever since the wall had appeared and we were getting very worried…

“Harry, Ron, I really have to go, we can talk about this tomorrow,” I said itching to leave and meet Luna at her house (where I was staying at the moment).

“No, Hermione, you don’t know what’s out there you could get killed!” Ron said grabbing my arm to pull me back.

“No, Ronald! Stop trying to keep me safe! I’m a big girl now; I can take care of myself!” I said, wrenching my arm away from him. “I’ll meet you here at the Burrow tomorrow. Goodbye.” And with that I apparated to the road in front of Luna’s house, not even waiting for a response from them.

I was in a swirl of green, when all of a sudden it turned to red. Instead of landing in front of Luna’s house I landed in a dark room with red carpet. Suddenly it got really cold, so cold I started to shiver. I vigorously rubbed my hands together trying to generate heat.

“Who’s there?” I said trying to cover my fear. I reached for my wand in my back pocket, and slowly pulled it out. “Answer me!” I screamed. I could definitely tell someone was watching me. Or something…

I started to let my guard down thinking I might have apparated to the wrong place when I felt an icy breath on the back of my neck.

I whipped around and made full contact with a face. The face of a vampire. It let out a loud hiss and bared its fangs.

“AHH HELP!!” I screamed hopefully, but of course no one heard me. Then the vampire leaped to me and pinned me to the ground. I fought. I fought so hard, but it was too strong. I kicked. I screamed.

Then I looked into its eyes. The red swirl in its eyes was so mesmerizing. I couldn’t look away until I felt the most painful bite in my neck. It felt like having hundreds of knives forced into your neck all at once, re-stabbing you over and over again.  I was pleading for death by the time it started to fade.

“Stupefy!” I screeched, pointing my wand strait at the vampire. He flew back and hit the wall on the other side of the room. I apparated to Luna’s street and ran into her house as fast as I could, blood leaking uncontrollably from my neck.

*

I ran to the bathroom and cleaned the blood off of my neck furiously. I scrubbed, and scrubbed until my neck was raw and numb.

“Where’s the mark?” I said to myself out loud. There was no mark on my neck from the vampire bite, just tender red skin from my vigorous scrubbing. “That’s weird,” I said out loud again.

“What’s weird?” Luna said entering the bathroom. I threw the towel to the ground and moved to stand in front of the sink that was covered in blood.

“Oh nothing” I said quickly. She eyed me suspiciously. “But Luna, do you mind?” I said gesturing towards to door. ‘Nature calls” I said with an innocent smile.

“Oh sure, sorry” Luna said dreamily. She walked to the door then turned around. “But Hermione, in case you need it, we have a section in the library filled with books about vampires.” She said giving me an ‘I know what you’re up to’ look, and walked away.

‘Should I ask her for help? I bet she knows more about this than I do.’ I thought.

‘Hmm…’

“Luna wait up!” I said calling after her.

On Voldemort’s side... His P.O.V

I’ve done it. I’ve succeeded. I should have thought of this earlier. Now I have no more hiding. Soon enough the other side will all be dead and I will finally have complete power of the wizarding world. It is almost pleasant here. Clear skies, no out of line behavior, no unexpected visits from the famous Harry Potter. It is all I could ask for… well, almost all I could ask for.

***

“Hello Bellatrix, nice to see you again.” I stated, bowing my head slightly as a sign of gratitude.

“My lord,” Bellatrix said bowing down and kissing the hem of my robes.

“I have a mission for you,” I said. She nodded.

“We now have control of the wizarding world. We have everything we need except one thing- Hermione Granger,” I said, a smirk pulling at my lips.

“The mudblood? I mean no disrespect my lord, but what do we want with a mudblood?” Bellatrix spat lost in confusion. I let out a small annoyed chuckle.

“It will all come in time. But what I need you to do is bring her here to me,” I said calmly. Bellatrix let out a confused expression.

“But my Lord, I thought you said that there was no way to go to the other side?”

I let out a mirthless, high-pitched laugh. It was so dreadfully annoying to make her try and guess.

“Now Bella, what kind of a Dark Lord would I be, if I didn’t have a way to torture my enemies?” I simply asked. I showed her the map.

“I see, my Lord,” Bellatrix said with a sly smile.

“Bring her here no later than tomorrow. I need her immediately.”

And with that Bellatrix left the room.

I sat back into my dark green velvet chair. ‘Hmm…’ I thought to myself, organizing a plan into my mind. ‘I will just have to see how she cooperates before I put my plan into action.’

On the Wizarding Side

“Ugh… I’m so confused!” Hermione groaned. She was looking in the library through a thick stack of books about vampires. It says I should want blood! But I don’t! And that I should have red eyes, but I don’t! Hermione thought to herself for a long time. Well I’m just going to go to bed it’s already midnight. But I think I’m going to get a snack first.

Hermione walked downstairs and opened the fridge. She took out the milk and rummaged through the cupboard for some Cheerios. Aha! She thought grabbing a yellow box from the back. She poured herself a bowl and scooped up a big bite.

“BLOODY HELL” she shrieked, spitting it on the ground.  Dear Merlin, This is vile! Must have expired. She thought, putting it in the sink and instead grabbing some yogurt from the fridge. She took a spoonful. But the moment the taste reached her tongue she spat it out all over the counter. ‘BLOODY HELL, THEY NEED TO CLEAN OUT THEIR FRIDGE!’ Hermione threw it in the garbage. Yuck, I give up I’m going to bed. Hermione thought and walked up to her small bedroom on the second floor.

She changed into her PJ’s and instantly fell asleep once her head hit the pillow.

**

It was that night; he was there on top of her. She couldn’t move. Those eyes, they burned into her mind. Then he attacked. His fangs went into her neck. AHHHH!!!! Her pitiful scream was nothing compared to the real pain. Blood was everywhere. It dripped down her neck, over her collarbone soaking her shirt to a deep crimson. BLOOD…blood was flowing through her mind. The deep shade, the smell. MINE Need BLOOD. Her dream changed to a street. It was the street outside of Luna’s house. There was a girl walking down the road alone. Hermione’s senses were crisp. She could see every flinch of movement, hear every heartbeat, smell every scent, especially BLOOD; her BLOOD. She jumped ten feet towards the screaming girl. She pinned her down just like her attacker had and plunged her fangs into her neck and…..

“AHHHH!!!!!!”  Hermione woke up screaming in her bed. Oh my Merlin, what a horrible dream! But… what’s that smell? And what time is it? She glanced at the clock. 4:00 am? It looks like noon outside! Weird… she thought. She easily got out of bed and practically flew to the bathroom. And looked in the mirror.

“Bloody……….. Hell……..” In the mirror was a girl’s face that looked partially like Hermione’s. It was extremely pale, had crimson eyes, but worst of all had blood smothering her mouth.

“Bloody, Fucking, Hell” She couldn’t hold herself up. Her knees went weak and she collapsed to the ground. I’m a vampire? Did I kill the girl? The girl…. In a flash Hermione was downstairs and through the door out on the street. The girl’s body was gone. Werewolves. She shook her head.

Hermione sprinted back up the stairs and washed off the blood covering her face. She changed outfits and threw her clothes in the garbage. She went back into the bathroom to brush her teeth and was forced to look in the mirror. Her eyes were more of auburn now. They were changing back into her brown color. Phew! Hermione thought. From what I’ve read they should go back to their original color after you have eaten. The thirstier you are the redder they become. Hermione couldn’t stop looking at her reflection. Many things had changed about her. Her hair had gotten silkier, her skin had turned to look flawless like porcelain, and her muscles were like rocks. She had become much more elegant looking and beautiful. Yep, just like the books said. Pale and beautiful. She thought. She opened her mouth to examine her teeth. She no longer had buckteeth, but strait pearly whites with nothing out of line.

It was 6:00 already and Hermione had to go meet Ron and Harry by 6:30. She was hoping that they wouldn’t notice. But just to make sure she took out her wand.

“Sunsposis” she said pointing the wand at her face and she turned back to her original skin color. I’m sure it will wear off in a few hours, but for now this will have to do. And what about my eyes… She muttered a spell and her eyes changed into a more honey color. Much better. Now I should probably write a letter to Luna before I go. I can’t stay here any longer; I am monster and don’t want to hurt anyone else. She went to her desk and sat down with a quill and paper.

Luna

I’m sorry I didn’t say goodbye. But it happened. I don’t want to put your lives in jeopardy so I thought it was best I leave. Please tell your dad thank you for me. Good luck, and keep safe.

      Love,

  Hermione

That should do it. Hermione thought, and folded it up. She got out her suitcase and threw all of her stuff into it. She minimized her trunk to pocket-sized and left the note on her folded bed.

“Thanks Luna,” she whispered and walked out the door and onto the streets. Hermione felt more secure now on the streets now than ever. She had no one to fear. Werewolves wouldn’t dare touch her, vampires couldn’t kill her since she was one of them, and all the other creatures feared the vampires just as much as she had before.  Once she was down the road she decided to aparate to the Burrow.

**

“Hermione!” Ron and Harry said greeting her with a hug. The moment their bodies collided. Hermione stiffened. She could feel the blood running through their bodies against hers making her very uncomfortable.

“Um... hey guys.” Hermione said with a forced smile.

“You’re just in time. The Order’s finally meeting! Everyone’s inside the dining room.” Harry said.

“Ron? Are you ok?” Hermione asked Ron, who was practically drooling. His eyes were locked on Hermione.

“He’s ok; you just look a little different.” Harry said with a friendly smile.

“Oh um… thanks I didn’t think anything was different.” Hermione said lying through her teeth. “Well let’s just get to that Order meeting,” Hermione said trying to change the subject.

“Yea,” Harry agreed. And they walked into the meeting. This is the Order? There was almost the whole Weasly family and about 6 other Order members.

“Where’s everyone else?” Hermione asked. The room went quiet.

“They aren’t here anymore Hermione,” Mrs.Weasly whispered.  WHAT?! How can they be gone? The Order is the strongest people still here! If they’re dying, then there’s no hope for anyone else!

“So… On with the meeting,” Moody said standing up. “We don’t know much about breaking down this wall except that no magic works on it, or gunfire. We have been informed by Trelawney before her tragic death of one way to tear it down. The problem is that it’s on the other side. If you can get to the other side then there’s a cliff called Cliff Morter. You have to jump off of it. And apparently at the bottom there’s a key of some sort that you need to open the wall. But the question is how to get there.” He said.

“Hermione are you ok?” Harry whispered in Hermione’s ear.  Your eyes are looking really bloodshot,” he said. Oh no. I need blood. Hermione thought.

“Um… I have to go.” Hermione whispered back to him, standing up. Sorry everyone, but I need to go,” Hermione said ignoring the suspicious faces and heading towards the door.

Once she was out she ran to the street by the forest. BLOOD. Just then there was a 20 year old guy walking down the road. He looked extremely familiar to Hermione. His heart beating fast, his blood was flowing through her mind. Hermione was about to attack when she heard her name.

“Granger?” the blonde boy asked. Just then she recognized him. Draco Malfoy. Refrain yourself, you can wait... for now.  Hermione told herself.

“Wow this place really is bad,” she heard Draco whisper to himself after glancing around at his surroundings.

“Yes it is.” She said as he walked closer.

“How could you hear that?” he shouted back. Oh shit… vampire strengths. She thought.

“Wait a second, why are you on this side of the wall?!”Hermione said. He was less than five feet away from her now. He didn’t answer, just kept walking towards her. He grabbed one of her arms. “What are you doing, let go of me” she screamed.

“We’re taking you to the other side,” Hermione gasped.

“We?” she questioned

But before he could answer they were in a swirl of color.

Part 2

Hermione fell to the ground out of the swirl and grabbed the side of her head in pain. A strong hand clenched her arm and pulled her back up. The moment she looked up she gasped.  She was in the middle of the once Diagon Ally. But unlike a few weeks before, the streets were bare. There were no little 10 year olds selecting their first wands, no friends chatting outside the Leaky Cauldron and a ghostly deserted Flourish and Blott’s, Hermione’s favorite book store. It was all wrong. Hermione almost forgot about Draco tugging at her arm.

“Let go of me!” she said, wrenching her arm away from him.

“Hermione, you have to listen to me. I’m not going to hurt you, we just want to talk. Blaise is waiting in the pub so we must hurry.” He said grabbing her arm again and pulling her along. But even though he was just over six foot, he could not budge Hermione with her new vampire strength. She snorted.

“Why would I go with you?” she said, standing her ground.

“Because you know just as well as I do, that if you don’t, we will send you back there and you will DIE. We are trying to save you.” He said. Why would they want to save me? I might as well go with him, the longer I’m here the longer I can spend trying to break down this wall.

“Fine,” Hermione huffed as she crossed her arms and started to walk. They walked for a few minutes in silence when a frustrating thought came into Hermione’s mind. BLOOD. It repeated over and over. She looked over at Draco’s face. She could see the blood pulsing through his body in his face and his muscular arms. Hermione winced. Don’t do it. Just hold on for a little longer. Hermione tried not to breath and kept walking.

“We’re here,” Draco said breaking the silence and opening the door for her.

“Thanks,” Hermione replied quietly as she walked through. Why is he being so nice? Hermione thought. She shook away the thought the moment her eyes landed on Blaise.

Blaise Zabini was sitting at the empty bar having only god knows what. Hermione couldn’t lie, he looked good. His hair was slightly scruffy and midnight black. His skin was a delectable caramel color that any girl would kill for; his body was built and toned wonderfully as well. But what stood out the most were his captivating ocean blue eyes, and they were bearing into hers.

“Um… H-Hi,” Hermione said walking over and extending her hand. “I don’t think we have formally met. I’m Hermione Granger.”

“Blaise Zabini.” He said in a deep serene voice, shaking her hand and looking her up and down. But what was in his eyes was not what she was looking for. It was a mix of sadness and pity. “Please sit.” He said to Draco and Hermione gesturing towards the leather chairs around a coffee table. They all took a seat.

“How bad is it?” Blaise asked looking down at the floor. “I mean the other side.”

“Bad. People are dying left and right, the vampire population is overwhelming us…” Hermione sighed to herself “I should know…” she said quietly only for her to hear.

“That’s horrible,” Blaise said looking up from the ground and making eye contact with Hermione. Hermione looked away with an annoyed laugh.

“You have got to be kidding me! Look what side you’re on? You put us there to die and now you are feeling sorry?” she yelled. Blaise looked at her hurt.

“Just because we got lucky, doesn’t mean that we don’t think about the other side, and how miserable you all are,” Draco said. Maybe they are serious…

“You got lucky? Ugh, whatever. Why am I here?” Hermione said, anxious to leave.

“Voldemort wanted to meet with you,” Draco said. Hermione made a puking noise.

“Tell him he can shove his wand up his bum,” Hermione huffed.

“Well I sure don’t want to tell him that!” Blaise said. “But he has cooled down drastically since the wall was put up. If I were you I would just do what he says.” Hermione sighed and Draco stood up.

“Speaking of the devil, we are supposed to meet him immediately.” Draco said. We’ll leave now.” He said grabbing onto Blaise and Hermione. Soon they were in a swirl of green … the last thought that went through her mind was BLOOD.

***~***!~***~***!~***~***!***~***

They landed in what looked like a spacious office. Surprisingly the curtains were open and the room was filled with light. Along the wall were 3 death eaters on each side, with their hoods up. Some things will never change. Hermione thought to herself. And at the head of the room was a throne-like chair where Voldemort himself sat.

“Good afternoon.” Voldemort greeted, bowing his head with a smile. Hermione responded with a nod.

“So you are probably pondering why you are here?” Voldemort said.

“Yes,” Hermione simply stated.

“Well, as you already know the other side is in bad shape. And I’m searching for brilliant minds to save. And you are brilliant,” Voldemort said.  Wow, I actually got a compliment from him. He really has cooled off.

“Well I’m pretty sure you acted too late to ‘save’ me.” Hermione whispered. But Voldemort heard her perfectly.

“Ahh, yes I did notice there was something different about you when you arrived. Vampire? Am I not mistaken?” he asked.

“Unfortunately, yes,” Hermione said. Blood... She winced.

“Your eyes look very red… Have you hunted lately?” He asked.

“No…” Hermione said trying to concentrate.

“Well you should probably do so now, I wouldn’t want you attacking any of my guards. We keep prisoners locked up. You may have one of them for now.” He said. Hermione frowned at the thought of the poor prisoner’s life being taken, but the notion was too tempting. I would be concentrate more on opening the wall. Just this one time… she decided.

“Thank you,” Hermione said looking down at the floor.

“We will finish this meeting at a later point in time,” he said with a wrong smile. “Draco, Blaise please take Hermione to visit the dungeons.”  He said.

With that, Hermione, Draco and Blaise headed to the dungeons. Once she walked through the house a bit Hermione started to recognize the home. It was Malfoy Manor. When they reached the dungeons Draco took out a key, unlocked the door and lit up the room just enough to see a few feet in front of you. In front of her stood two metal cages one contained three men that looked around middle aged. And enclosed by the other, was one man around Hermione’s age, and two weary looking middle aged women. They all stared at Hermione in awe.

“Take your pick.” Draco said with a sickening look on his face. How can I do this? They are all so innocent! She shook her head and walked up to the cage where the three men were. Hermione was puzzled for a moment. They looked mesmerized by her flawless features because of her vampire nature. Hermione didn’t know how to pick so she asked…

“Um... who would like to come with me?”  All three raised their hands. She sighed and snatched the keys from Draco’s slightly shaking hand. She unlocked the door, reached in and grabbed a hand. She tried not to look at his face and pulled him out of the room. “I’ll take him outside,” The delighted man willingly fallowed Hermione through the door, walking past a cheerless Blaise.

After Hermione’s ‘snack’ she was back talking with Voldemort. Surprisingly he had few body guards, and not as large of a temper. He was very relaxed around her, and didn’t seem to have an issue talking to her like they were friends.

“So you’re saying, that if I join your side, I can pretty much live freely and just do a few missions for you now and then?” Hermione asked in shock.

“Precisely,” he said leaning back against his chair. Hermione thought in silence for a minute going over her pros and cons.

Your pretty much choosing life or death. One side of her thought. Yea, but what about the Order? The other side admitted.  What Order? You were at the meeting, everyone’s dead. And who knows. Maybe you could find Cliff Morter and tear this thing down once and for all.   Voldamort must have noticed one of her many internal arguments, and interrupted.

“I’m guessing that you need some time to think about this, in the meantime you have the choice to go back to your side for a few days, or you may stay at the Zabini manor. If it’s alright with Mr.Zabini of course?” Voldemort said turning to Blaise. Blaise’s face lit up.

“It would be my pleasure,” he said looking Hermione in the eyes with a smile. Ugh, that smile! How to resist? Hermione thought to herself.

“Well... I guess I will just stay at the manor,” Hermione said with a shrug trying to contain her excitement. Excitement? Uh no. He’s a death eater, it would be wrong. Voldemort smirked. Draco’s smile turned immediately to a grimace, which Hermione did not fail to notice.

“Very well,” he said. He gestured Blaise over and talked to him privately. Of course Hermione could hear thanks to her new skills.

“You are to not let her out of your sight. Understood?” he whispered. Blaise nodded and walked over to Hermione. “Shall we,” he said holding out his arm. Hermione smiled with a nod and let him escort her ‘home.’ No smiling. You aren’t supposed to want to see him. Hermione thought. She instantly straitened her face out to show no emotion. With one last look at Draco’s scowl, they were in a swirl of green.
