My world was crashing down before my eyes. I sat there in the booth, stunned, and looked over at Regulus. “I’ll give you a few minutes to get yourself together Miss Brookes,” McGonagall softly said, “Be in the headmaster’s office in half an hour.” I nodded, not making eyecontact. She put a kind hand on my shoulder, as if to say something, but then, she gave me a sympathetic look and strolled out of the restaurant. “Melanie? Are you alright?” Regulus was concerned, I could tell. But how was I to tell him that my favorite brother was missing? I seemed to have forgotten how to use my voice. I was frightened and worried. I could feel my eyes welling up with tears as I shook my head and ran straight out into the street. It had begun raining outside. I glanced around and saw Black sitting on the other side of a fountain, only recognizable by the back of his head. James was next to him. I wasn’t sure where Lily was, though. But none of that mattered. All I cared about was getting out of here. Away from people. “Melanie, wait!” Regulus had come out of the Three Broomsticks, chasing after me. I shook my head and kept running, but Regulus was fast. He was catching up. That is until Black decided to run and tackle him. I don’t mean like a whimpy hold, I mean a full on, football worthy, tackle to the ground. “You son of a bitch! What did you do to her?! Why is she crying!” I turned around, stunned. James ran up behind Black and stood there, giving Regulus the worst look he could. “Answer me, Regulus!” I figured the least I could do for my date was save him from that idiot attacking him. I ran back quickly, shouting through my tears, “Black, stop!” But he continued to punch him. “SIRIUS! HE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING!” Black finally looked up, as did Regulus. “Then why are you crying Mel?!” Tears began to fall faster than before. “Just leave him alone. Regulus didn’t do anything.” My voice was shaking as I tried to remain as calm as the situation would allow. But Black still had him pinned down. I walked closer to them, pulled Black up by the arm. Still grasping it, I said, “Regulus, I’m sorry. I’ll talk to you later, okay?” He nodded and I glared at James for not stopping Black. Then, I pushed Black and began to walk away. It wasn’t long before he caught up, and lightly grabbed my arm. I swung around, glaring at him. “What the HELL, were you thinking!? Attacking my DATE!?” He smirked, looking slightly guilty all the while. “I thought you said it wasn’t a date.” I was getting annoyed now, and my tears turned to tears of anger. “That’s not the point! You had no right attacking Regulus!” “Regulus is an idiot! Melanie! I was afraid he’d hurt you.” “It doesn’t matter Black. Today just got bad enough without you going after him! Wait, how do you know Regulus?” “Ah. You didn’t know. Reg didn’t tell you who he was. Regulus is my little brother, Brookes. A future death eater.” I froze, not understanding. But the shock of Regulus being related to Black. That just threw me off. I shoved him and ran for the school. ~~~~~~ Upon walking in Dumbledore‘s office, I noticed that my brother, Farley, was there. He came over and gave me a huge, sad, hug. Through that hug, I heard him sigh tiredly, and I knew he was feeling the hurt, as I was. I was led to one of the two chairs in front of the large desk Dumbledore sat behind. I kept my head down as he spoke. “Miss Brookes, as Professor McGonagall has told you, your brother is missing. He did not return from school yesterday. We are doing all that we can to locate Gabriel. We have both aurors and muggle police searching for him, as well as your family and the Potters.” I recognized Farley’s voice next. “Melanie, I’m here because, well, if you want to come home until he is found... you can. I can take you home with me today, if you’d like.” His voice was so somber. I couldn’t believe I was sitting here, listening to this. I never would have imagined Gabe would be missing. I looked up, finally. “I’ll come home for the night and tomorrow. But I don’t want to miss any classes.” That was a lie. The truth was, I knew my family would be in crisis mode, and I didn’t want to stay in my house, when everyone was a wreck. I had to be strong. “Alright, Miss Brookes, go get your belongings together and Mr. Brookes will take you home by side along apparation.” I nodded and got up, walking over to the door. Farley said his goodbyes to Dumbledore, and we walked down the staircase, and walked to the common room, in complete silence. Walking in, I ignored the questions from James and Lily, and walked up to my dorm, leaving Farley to answer them. I began to pack up just a few essentials, seeing as I still had half a closet of clothes at home. Then, I descended the stairs and walked down to where everyone was waiting. James came up and hugged me, saying, “It’s going to be okay, Mel.” I hugged Lily next, who had began crying. “Bye.” I said quickly to everyone else. I wanted the fastest goodbye possible. I noticed Black standing over in the corner, watching the scene from the shadows. I gave him a hard look and walked out, Farley following, telling James to behave. ~~~~~ My house looked exactly the same as it had when I was home over a month ago. The same as when Gabe was here. I don’t know what I expected, it’s not as if houses could show emotion. But all the same, it was odd to see things remain constant, while everything else was a disaster. To the right of my house, was the Potter mansion. It was about the same size as my house, and it, too, looked the same as when I had left it. Walking into my house, I noticed my mother sitting on the couch, he head in her hands, Mrs. Potter’s arm around her shoulder, trying to comfort her. “Hi, mom. Mrs. Potter.” I said awkwardly. I mean, what are people supposed to say in these situations? Hey, I’m home what’s for dinner? My mom looked up. “Hi, honey,” she was hurriedly wiping tears off her face, as if to pretend she was never crying at all. Mrs. Potter got up and gave me a huge hug. “How is school Melanie? Please tell me James and Sirius haven’t gotten in anymore trouble? I was so upset when I got that letter a month ago saying they had set a boy’s robes on fire!” I loved Mrs. Potter, she was like a second mother and I could see her attempt to distract both me and my mother from the present situation. I smiled sadly at the sight of Severus Snape running down the corridor, engulfed in flames. Of course, they weren’t actual flames, Snape wasn’t harmed, but all the same, he thought he was. “I think they’re behaving Mrs. Potter.” “Good, I’ll go start dinner.” And she bustled out, leaving me alone with my mother and Farley. I sat down next to my mother. “I heard Gabriel didn’t come home from school yesterday.” I mentally slapped myself. Of course I knew that! That’s the reason I was here, after all! She nodded. “Yes, but don’t worry. Your father and Mr. Potter, and Farley have been looking for him.” She pulled me and Farley into a hug. “Don’t worry, we’ll find him. Dinner was the most awkward and depressing occasion ever. No one spoke, except Mrs. Potter, who tried to make pleasant dinner conversation. But I think everyone was thinking the same thing. Everyone was thinking about that empty place next to me, where Gabe would sit. And on the other side, James would sit when he joined us for meals. I looked sadly to the chair on the left, where Gabriel had eaten breakfast just yesterday. ~~~~~ It was nearly two-thirty in the morning when there was a loud knocking at the door. I got out from my bed, and threw on a nightgown, walking downstairs in the wake of my parents and Farley. When we reached the door, my father opened it. Standing there, among the darkness and cover of stars were the Potters. With Gabriel. Instantly my mother began to shake and cry as she embraced my little brother. He was covered in dirt and his sweater had holes in it. He looked tired and worn. Not seeming to even register that he was home. Safe. My father asked Mr. Potter, “how did you find him?” Mr. Potter said, “I didn’t,” and he dragged my father to the corner of the room, talking in low tones that I couldn’t hear. But that didn’t even matter. What mattered was that my little brother was home, safe. He was alive. I thought about this as I walked over, and put my arms around my little brother, hoping to never feel the loss of him again. ~~~~~ The next morning I awoke early, got showered and dressed, then crept down to Gabriel’s room. I opened the door, and walked in. He was sleeping, but woke up as I sat on the edge of his bed. “How are you, Gabe?” I asked quietly. “I’m fine. But Melanie?” I leant closer to hear him better. “Please don’t ask me what happened.” I nodded, hugged him, and told him I had to go back to school that day. I was hesitant to leave him, but there wasn’t much I could do. ~~~~~ As I entered the school, most students were still at breakfast. I walked into the great hall, and took a seat next to Lily, who was, surprisingly sitting with the Marauders. “They found him!” I yelled, smiling widely. Lily hugged me, and James exchanged a look with Black. Black seemed to smile slightly, and he had somehow gotten a bruise on his left cheek. It must have been from Regulus. As I looked over at the Slytherin table, he, too, had quite a few bruises, including a black eye. He must have felt my gaze upon him, for he looked at me, and waved, smiling. I waved back, also smiling. I turned back to my friends. Black got up and strode out of the hall. I looked to James, asking him what was wrong. “Well, Melanie, I don’t think he was too happy about you going on a date with his little brother.” I froze. Remembering my conversation with Black yesterday. Regulus was a Black. Oh, dear. What have I gotten myself into? ~~~~~ After breakfast I excused myself from everyone else and walked up to my dormitory, craving a moment to myself. In all the hype of Gabriel being found, I hadn‘t had a moment to think about the situations. As I walked in, I noticed something on my bed. There, folded up neatly, was my black tube top, and on top of that, was Gabriel’s letter to me. And, instantly, I knew who had saved Gabriel. A/N- So there is chapter 4. I know it’s not humorous like the other chapters have been, but it was a more serious (haha) chapter. I was a little discouraged by the lack of reviews, although I thank those of you who did review. I tend to update much quicker when I know that people will be waiting for it. So, please, don’t forget to review. The greater the number of reviews, the faster you will recieve the final chapter of 5 Things I Hate About The Infamous Womanizer Sirius Black. So, review?
