Chapter 8: Chapter Eight
[View Online]

Sorry for the delay!  I've been stressed out of my mind. Anyway, ENJOY!
I own nothing but the plot.

"Hey....Hermione, stop!"

I finally did stop, but not until I was safely inside the Gryffindor common room making Ron crash right into me.

"Will you explain, please?" Ron asked irritably not bothering to help me up off the ground.

"I..." I wasn't sure how to explain what had just happened.

"ginny told me that she was over him!" Ron exclaimed as we walked into the dungeons. "Ah! I can't believe I was so blind!"

I laughed, the echo sounding foreign in the dreary dungeons. "Don't worry. I didn't see it either. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. In fact..."

The rest of my sentence escaped me as a feeling of paranoia overwhelmed me. Ron sent a weird look my way which I ignored. Looking around cautiously, I felt my heart fly into my throat as I gave a jump and fell back into Ron.

"What-?"

But Ron's question was answered as a blonde prat stepped out from behind a suit of armor with the familiar smirk plastered on his face. Ron growled as he put his hands on my waist to steady me.

"What's a muggleborn and a weasel doing in the dungeons at this time of day?" Malfoy asked moving in front of us, blocking us from going further.

I scowled. "I don't believe that's any of your business."

His eyes flashed to mine, drawing me in.

"Oh, but isn't it?"

We continued to stare at each other menacingly. My business was not his! Who did he think he was?

Then his eyes changed. They softened.

"We're headed to Snape's room. Ron left his book there." I almost slapped my hand over my mouth. Why did I tell him?

Ron also wondered the same thing. "Hermione!" He yelled at me.

"No need for abuse, Weasel."

Ron began to turn an unattractive shade of red. I turned to him. "Ron, don't. He has it in his head that you're not a very good boyfriend, so don't give him any thing to use against you."

"And how do you know that?" Ron asked still turning color.

I sighed. Malfoy answered for me with a smirk.

"We talk, me and your girlfriend. Didn't you know?"

I whipped around to Malfoy. "Stop."

He grinned, ignoring me, and continued, walking in a slow circle around Ron and I.

"We talk all the time, don't we, Sweetheart?"

I clenched my fists. "Shut up, Malfoy."

"But that's not all we do, is it?" I watched him stop in front of me, reach out, and touch my cheek. I could practically hear the steam coming from Ron.

"Is it, Granger?" Malfoy taunted.

Ron stared at me, anger evident in his face, waiting for an answer. An answer that he wasn't going to like.

An answer that I did not want to give.

So I ran.

"You what?" Ron asked again harshly.

I stood up off the floor and glared at him.

"What do you want me to say? He was being Malfoy, Ron! That's what he does! He teases! He was trying to make us mad and it worked."

Ron's temper was still on a high. However, his expression paused as he digested what I had said. He sputtered for a minute then shouted, "So it's not true?"

I gulped, trying to swallow the guilt. "He's Malfoy, Ron. How much of what comes out of his mouth can you really believe?"

I watched the red slowly fade into pink. He was buying it. I let out my breath and walked to the window before he could see my face which I'm sure was a dead give-away.

The sky was almost dark, the sun gone but still lighting up the horizon, the ground covered in melting snow, and not a human in sight...except one.

I whipped around.

"Ron, I just remembered I left something...in the library."

I was glad his voice was back to his normal tone. "Do you want me to come with you?"

I shook my head, glanced quickly out the window, and stared walking towards the portrait hole.

"um...no, that's okay. I was hoping to get a little last minute studying in."

He nodded and I left. Before I was out of the room, he called my name.

"Be careful." He said quietly.

Once I was outside the school, I regretted not grabbing my cloak. Despite the melting snow, it was cold!

It took me awhile to find him. I always thought he was afraid of the forbidden forest. He was strolling...nah, Malfoy's don't stroll. He was walking along the edge of the forest. Far enough in that nobody passing outside could see, but close enough to not get lost.

"Granger?" I almost laughed at his reaction, like I was a mirage. However, he quickly regained himself. "Following me? This is a first!"

I didn't smile. "Do you think you're funny?"

His smirk faltered. "What are you talking about?"

"The little game you played down in the dungeons? I had to convince Ron that there isn't anything between us and that's harder than it sounds."

"But that's a lie. There is something between us." His smirked returned.

I glared. "If there's anything between us, I didn't want or ask for it. And it --if there is an it-- is not something I want my boyfriend to know about. Got it?"

"Well, it --and yes, there is an it-- is something I really want him to know about. If you haven't noticed, I hate your boyfriend and I really want you two to break up."

I couldn't help but laugh. It was all so unreal. My life was like ones I used to read about: exciting, thrilling...there had to be a catch.

"Why?" I asked.

He leaned his shoulder against a nearby tree."You really should work on your communication skills. Once again, I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Why do you follow me? Torture me?" My voice was soft. I was indeed curious.

"Torture?" He stared almost irritably at me. "You think I'm torturing you?"

I blushed. "Well...if you're not tormenting me, then what are you doing?"

He turned his body so that his back was now against the tree. His annoying smirk was replaced by a frown of concentration. I couldn't deny that at that moment he looked unbelievably delectable. If he kissed me now, I wouldn't think twice before giving in. I was going to hell.

"I..." He looked at the ground, raking his fingers through his hair.

"Is it a bet?" I asked getting ready for the blow. "I know you and Blaise like to bet each other to do stupid things. Did he dare you to seduce me or...or...you can tell me. I won't be mad. Well, I might be a little mad, but please tell me."

He glanced up. "I love you, Granger."

Did he just say...

"You want to know why I follow you around? That's why!"

"You...you love me?"

He stood up fully and glared down at me. "I said it once, I don't have to say it again."

I was too stunned to worry about his anger.

"I wasn't asking you to say it again." I mumbled, watching him move closer to me. I leaned back against the tree behind me and closed my eyes as his warm body pressed against my cold one. I wasn't expecting the soft, gentle kiss his mouth gave mine. I had to open my eyes to make sure it was Malfoy I was kissing. My fingers tickled the back of his neck as his held my neck in a firm, but gentle grip.

As much as I liked this gentle side of him, I much preferred his hard, passionate kisses. All I needed to do was arouse him a little. I slid my hands down his chest and tugged his shirt out of his pants. His breathing hitched, but his mouth stayed the same. i trailed my fingers up his stomach and pressed my cold palms against his bare chest.

That did it. He pressed me against the tree and smashed his lips against mine. Oh, how I loved kissing him! His hands also started picking up the vibe. He shoved one into my hair and slid the other one up my shirt, laying it on my stomach. I gasped, pulling my mouth away to breath while he continued on my neck.

I opened my eyes and immediately regretted it.

Ron stood a few feet away staring at us with wide eyes.

and then I blacked out.
