Chapter 2: Malfoy Manor
The flight was like all the others. Me, trying to keep my self from being sick, while Mother and Father have no problem with it. Wonderful, isn’t it? I couldn’t wait until it was over. Moreover because, I wanted to get away from my father. He treats Mother and I like dirt. Like the only thing we were good for, is to make him look good. Which is why I spent most of my childhood at the Malfoys. Father introduced Mother and I to the Malfoys when I was three. Lucius was five then, acting like a statue when we met. He rarely smiled then. I guess it was due to Abraxas trying to make Lucius like himself. After the first few times I came, I finally got him to speak out his thoughts. Then every time I came over, he would open up a little more. I did the same, at first keeping that I was a half-vampire to myself. Then when I overcame my fear, that he would hate me after I told him, I let my secret out.
Oddly enough, he took it well. Saying, “Well… That explains a lot.” Then smiling at me. Not a moment after, he pulled me into a hug, shocking me. At first I wondered if he was sick, the Malfoys are not people who show emotion… Unless they are angry or smirking (which is what Lucius does a lot). He then stopped my thoughts of his well being by saying “ Thank you. For being here for me…”
I still thought he was sick.
“ Are you ok? That was a bit random…” I asked, as he pulled away.
He laughed, “ Yes. I’m fine. What I meant was ‘Thank you for being here to make me laugh. Otherwise… I would have been exactly like Father. I-”
“ You want to surpass your father, not be a clone of him. Right?” I interrupted him. Lucius nodded, just as my father, Sato, walked in on our conversation. Then I had to leave until I had completed my studies of my abilities a year later.
In that year, I had received my letter to Hogwarts. I was going to see Lucius for the first time in a year! Needless to say, I was overjoyed to be able to see him again. We arrived at the front gate of the Malfoy Manor, my excitement of seeing Lucius overriding the sick feeling in my stomach. I know what it seems like… No, I do not like Lucius. He is one of my best friends. Ok, my only best friend. But I hope to change that once I get to Hogwarts.
We walked up to the door and as always the door opens before Sato could knock. Abraxas normally knew when we had arrived, he said he could ‘sense’ us arriving. Sure he could… Abraxas was fairly tall, almost as tall as Sato, (who was over six feet tall by five inches)Abraxas resided only three inches below Sato. He wasn’t too old, but still had a little bit of gray in his white-blonde hair. His hair only reached his shoulders, while Lucius’s reached to his mid-back. Black, silver, or green were the only colors he wore. He was wearing dark green robes this time.
“Sato, my old friend! It’s been ages!” he exclaimed, shaking Sato’s hand furiously.
“ Speak for yourself old man. It’s just been a year.” Father replied, returning the favor. Abraxas then turned to Mother, taking her hand in his own.
“ Serecia dear, it has been far too long. You still look as beautiful as ever!” He kissed the back of her hand lightly.
He turned to me, a slight smile on his face. “Miss Carmen.” He took my hand and kissed it like Mother’s.” Still looking as ravishing as ever. I’m still surprised you don’t have a gang of boys following you around…”
Abraxas straightened, “ But I’m sure I’m not the one you want to see. Lucius, get down here boy!” He yelled into the house just before he let us inside.
The sound of rapid footsteps came from upstairs, followed by another pair. These were a bit slower than the first, but none the less rapid. A mane of white-blonde hair came darting down the stairs, stopping just before me. Lucius was panting, his head downcast as his black robes settled into place. Following just behind him, was a boy my age (in human years, eleven) with hair as black as night. His face was covered by his hair, which I noticed was coated with grease. He wore all black robes different from Lucius’s. Lucius interrupted any further observations of the boy, by lifting his head and yelling “Carmilla!
I dropped my trunk, as I was swept up by Lucius. He spun me around in his arms, not stopping until I had replied. “ Luce!” Yes, those were our names for each other. I called Lucius, Luce, (pronounced the way it looks) while he called me Carmilla. Lucius sat me down, then taking me into an embrace. I returned it gladly, happy to see that he hadn’t forgotten me. He stepped back, keeping me at arm length, his hands still on my shoulders. Lucius turned my body so that it faced the other boy, “ Carmen, this is Severus Snape, another dear friend of mine. Severus, this is Carmen Slrein. The girl I was telling you about.” Lucius introduced us.
The boy called Severus pushed a few strands of his hair out of his face. Revealing a pale face, with a rather unusual nose, lips pursed together in a scowl and the darkest pair of eyes I had ever seen. They looked black, but after looking at them a bit longer, I realized they were the darkest brown I had ever seen. He nodded towards me, the scowl still on his face.
I entered his mind, without knowing I had until I glimpsed memories. Terrible memories, alike my own. Yes, I knew how it was. His soul opened itself to me of its own will. It was dark and alone. Severus and I were more alike than either of us would have ever thought.
A/N: Hello there! Woohoo! Two chapters done, a whole bunch of story to go! Ok I’m done yelling now. This is my first fic, so reviews would help out a lot. If you see any mistakes or would like to suggest any ideas please say so in a review.
I’ll explain a little about Carmen’s abilities. She has the ability to read minds, unless the person has strong experience in Legilimency. She also can see into people’s souls, which will tell her if they are lying or not. Any questions about Carmen or the story, (including the nicknames) please ask in a review. I will try to reply as soon as possible!
I also realize Lucius may be a bit out of character, it is just the way I think he would act around someone who technically saved his life. By not letting him become a clone of his father.
