Everything else belongs to J.K. Rowling. Chapter One Recap: She pulled James and Lilly down beside her on the bed and whispered so quietly that they could barely hear her, “You’re going to hate me.” “No Mom. We could never hate you!” Lilly told her mom at once, her brother nodding his head beside her. “You will when I tell you this,” their mother continued. She sat up off the bed and pulled a chair in front of them and studied their expressions for a second. “There’s a lot I have to tell you.” she paused for a moment before continuing, “about who I am. And who you are.” Jenny Porter took a deep breath, and faced her children. “I want you both to know that nothing I say changes the fact that I love you more than anything in the world. Ok here it goes,” she stopped again to take another deep breath, and choked back a sob ,that was fighting to come out. “Remember when I said that I didn’t know who your father was?” “You said that you knew him for a short time, and you loved him greatly, but you never knew anything about him,” Lilly reminded her. “Yes, Lilly, that’s exactly what I said. But that’s not true. I lied to you, when I said that. The truth is that I knew your father all of my life. He was a sort of celebrity where I grew up. But I did love him greatly, and he was my life. I knew everything about him, and he knew everything about me.” “But, Mom, if you loved him where is he?” James asked. “I can’t answer that James. Not yet. I need to tell you something else first. I don’t know how to break this to you gently, but in my world my name isn’t Jenny Porter, and yours aren’t James and Lilly Porter.” James and Lilly gasped, but they remained quiet all the same, while they waited for their Mother to continue. She looked at them, with tears running freely down her face. “My real name is Ginevra (Ginny) Weasley. I have six older brothers, and two amazing parents. I lived in England all of my life. But when… wait a second I’m getting ahead of myself. Your real names are James and Lily Potter. I know that is sounds the same Lilly, but it’s different. Potter was, of course, your father’s last name. Sadly, what I’ve just told you, isn’t the most shocking part.” Ginny got up for a moment, so that she could walk to her dresser, and remove something from old wooden jewelry box. She came back to Lily and James, holding a long thin wooden object, that was nearly a foot long. “This is called a wand. It’s used for…for…mag…” “What is it Mom? Were you going to say magic?” Lily asked in astonishment. “Yes, Lily. I’m a witch and you are too. James is a wizard, just like your father was. But I’m still not done. Come here for a second.” She walked over to her dresser, and pulled out a piece of cardboard that was about an inch long. Ginny flicked her wand at it, and to James and Lily’s surprise and pleasure, it changed into a simple red photo album. “These are some pictures of me, your father and my family. They were taken before I moved to the United States with both of you. I want you both to look at these later after I’m finished. But now I have to show you something else,” Ginny wiped her face off, with the back of her hand, and went back to the jewelry box. This time she pulled out a well worn and faded photo, of, a woman with red hair and brown eyes and a man with black hair and green eyes. Both of the occupants of the picture were moving; The man was passionately kissing the woman, and she was lightly touching her stomach, and beaming continuously at the man. She studied the picture a moment, before the tears started again. She quickly handed it to Lily and turned her back on them. “This is a picture of your father.” Lily looked at the picture before walking around to face her Mom, “That’s you isn’t it?” Ginny nodded, and waved her wand at herself. Slowly her appearance began to change: her short dark blond hair became a long fiery red mane, her bright blue eyes turned to a bright brown and she got shorter. They were now staring at the women in the picture. They were staring at the Ginny Weasley, that she had tried so hard to leave behind in England. “Mom? Why did you change how you look? Do we look different too? Why did you move to New York if, you loved England. What happened to our uncles and grandparents?” Lily and James asked in unison. Ginny held up a hand, so that they would let her talk and continued, “I had to change how I look to protect us. Yes, you will look different later, I’m not going to change you now. I had to move away from everyone I loved because I had to protect you. Most of your uncles are married, and have many children of their own that are your age. Your grandparents still live where they lived all of my live, and are fine. But now, we have to leave. It’s not safe for us to live as Muggles now.” Ginny got up to leave the room, but she left a puzzled James and Lily sitting on the bed, “Mom, what’s a Muggle?” Lily asked hesitantly. Ginny laughed for moment, before sobering once again. “A Muggle is a non-magical person. Pretty much everybody that we know….as far as I know,” She waved her hand impatiently for them to get up, off the bed, and they walked into the kitchen, beside their artificial fireplace. “I want both of you to go get some clothes, and anything else you want to bring. We’re going to your grandparent’s house,” She gestured at the fireplace. “Er… Mom, we’re traveling in a fireplace?” James looked at his mother, like she had lost her mind. “Oh, dear. I forget how much I haven’t told you. But don’t worry, you’ll catch up soon enough. Oh, right. Yes, we are traveling by something called floo. That means that as soon, as I unblock our fireplace, we are going to throw some powder into it, and shout ‘The Burrow’. Then, we will arrive at my Mother’s house. I think I’d better change back now.” She waved her wand, and returned to the woman that they had known their entire life. “Now, hurry! Go get your clothes.” Lily ran to her room quickly and threw clothes pell-mell into her suitcase. She grabbed some make-up, and hair things, before hurrying across the hall to James’s room. On a second thought, she ran back to her room, and grabbed the mysterious letter, that she had forgotten about, because of her mother’s confession. She glanced at the green writing on the front of it, and saw something that shocked her completely. Miss Lily Potter and Mr. James Potter Apartment 29 New York City New York With shaky hands, Lily turned the envelope over, and saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake surrounding a large letter H. She carefully pulled out the letter and read: HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Headmistress: Hermione Weasley. It was then she noticed there were two more letters attached to the first one. She turned around to see James and her mother standing there, both carrying heavy suitcases. Lily shoved the letter in her pocket, with the other ones, and picked up her suitcase. She carried it to the living room, and set it down on the floor, in front of the fireplace. “Back up for a second Lily,” Ginny came from behind her, and pointed her wand at the fireplace. The next moment, the electric fire that they used in the winter, exploded, and the original fireplace was clear. Ginny quickly ignited a fire, with another wave of her hand, and pulled a very old red velvet satchel out of her pocket. She distributed some of the powder into both Lily and James’s hands, and put the rest back into the satchel. Quickly she ushered them closer, and explained in a hurried tone, “It’s nearly time. When I say so, James I want you to grab your suitcase and walk to the fire. When you are right beside it, throw the powder into the flames. When they turn green, step into the fire and loudly and clearly say ‘The Burrow’. After everything stops spinning, you should end up in the kitchen, at my Mother’s house. Walk out of the fireplace, as quietly as you can. I will send Lily directly with the rest of our stuff. And then I will come with some other things we need to look at.” James glanced at his mother, with a frightened look on his face, before clutching his suitcase to his chest, and walking up to the fire. He threw the shimmering powder into the flames, and carefully walked into them, as they glowed emerald green. He was almost sure that he was going to get burnt, but it was a very pleasant experience when he stepped it in. It was warm and toasty, and before he knew it the world was spinning around him, and he was falling face first onto the ground. He picked himself up off the ground, and examined his glasses that had gotten pushed off of his head. As, he was putting them back on, he noticed that he was not the only person in the room. A red headed older woman, who had a maternal look about her, was standing in the doorway, gaping at James. Before James had time to do anything, Lily slammed down on top of him, because instead of moving away from the fireplace, he had stayed crouched onto the ground. “Damn, Lily that hurt!” James exclaimed, as he picked himself, and his sister up off of the floor. “Sorry, James, but Mom told you to move away from the fireplace,” Lily said as she picked up her belongings off of the floor. Lily heard a swishing sound, and dived out of the way just in time. Her mother appeared, clutching a large brown truck, bearing ‘Ginny Weasley’ on the front of it, and stepped daintily out of the fireplace. The woman from the doorway spoke at last, in a menacing and disbelieving tone. “Where did you get that truck? That’s not yours!” “Oh, Mum! I’ve missed you so much!” Ginny ran straight towards her, tears streaking down her face. “Ginny? No it can’t be. No, my Ginny’s dead.” the woman pushed Ginny away, and furiously wiped at the tears, that were spilling out of her own eyes. “Oh, Mum! It is me. It’s your Ginny. Look,” Ginny took her hand, and pointed it at herself and changed back to her original self, “see Mum. Look, it really is me. I’ve been in America. Since…since… you know. Oh Mum. I’m so happy!” Molly Weasley wanted very much so to believe that her daughter was back. But after all, people impersonate others very often. She desperately wanted to go to this now grown woman, and take her into her arms, but first she had to have some proof. She struggled for a moment, but at last she kept her voice calm and cool, “If you’re really my daughter, then you won’t mind answering some questions for me. First, what happened in Ginny Weasley’s first year?” “Can we do this somewhere else? I don’t want the children to hear this,” Ginny pleaded. Molly looked at the twins, who were looking determinedly at their feet. “Very well. We’ll be back in a moment.” She gestured for Ginny to follow her, and they went out back into the garden. “In my first year of Hogwarts, I was possessed by a memory of the sixteen year old Voldemort, through a diary,” Ginny looked her mother in the eyes, as she spoke, because she knew that that would work more than anything. “Very well. Not many people know that but still, another question couldn’t hurt. Hmm, who was Ginny’s first love?” “My first and only true love was… Harry Potter,” Ginny let out a sob, as she said the name, and Molly instantly knew that this woman was her daughter. “Oh my dear, Ginny!” Molly said in a soft voice, and Ginny ran to her again. This time Molly hugged, and patted her back, as she sobbed into her mother’s shoulder, as she had wanted to for so many years. They stayed in that embrace for many minutes, and it was as if, Ginny was a child again, crying because Harry Potter didn’t love her. But there was a change and Molly knew it. It wasn’t long before the girl was once again a women, and more importantly a mother. “Mum, there’s somebody you need to meet. The two kids inside…their well…mine,” Ginny finished in a small voice as she looked at her mother. “So you’ve gotten married?“ Molly asked joy spreading over her face. Ginny shook her head no, and Molly continued to question her, “but those kids must be at least 15. And you’ve been gone nearly 16 years. Unless…that’s why you…” “Yes and no Mum. I left when I was two months pregnant, so I could protect them. But I can’t tell you any more, until I tell them first. I haven’t told them anything Mum. Except that are a witch and wizard. I’m sorry but it feels like I’m betraying them if, I tell you first. Hermione was the only one who knew what I did. But I didn‘t tell her until I was already gone, and everyone thought me dead. But, please don’t be mad at her. I made her promise not to tell.” Molly beamed at her daughter, “Oh Ginny, I’m just so happy to have you back and you did what any good mother would do. You did what was best for your children.” Ginny hugged her mother, once more, and went back inside to her children, with Molly following behind. Lily and James were both sitting beside their luggage, watching the fire. “Lily, James, I need to show you something.” Lily and James stood up, and walked toward their mother, shyly glancing at Molly out of the corner of their eyes. (which was extremely unusual because Lily usually never shut up and James wasn't a bit shy.) Ginny looked them over once, before looking at them, and her mother, and whispering softly, “I’m so sorry!” She waved her wand, and there was a major transformation. Lily’s short blond hair turned into a long red mane like her mother’s, only slightly darker, and her eyes turned an emerald green. James’s wavy blond hair, turned into an untamable mop of raven colored hair, and his eyes turned an emerald color, exactly like his sister‘s. Molly gasped and briefly whispered “Harry,” before looking at Ginny with a look of admiration, and love and pity, and many other things, that she could never express in words to her only daughter. “Oh Ginny, you’ve kept that secret for so long. It must have been hard when they were little, before you could change them.” Ginny nodded, and wiped her eyes, that were once again sparkling with tears, “His eyes Mum. Every time I looked at one of them, it tore me apart inside. I’ve been dreading this, since Mione called me this morning. James looks just like Harry and James both, and Lily looks just like Lily.” “Mom, who’s Harry?” Lily asked carefully. “Harry was your father. Harry Potter.” “Was?” “Yes, Lily. Your father died before you were born. He was killed by a very evil man. After you meet the family, we’ll sit down with the people who knew him best, and we will tell you all about him.” “Ok Mom.” “Hello, Lily. Hello, James. I am your Grandmum Molly Weasley. I am of course, your Mum’s mum. I was also a type of surrogate mum for your father. Right now, I think the both of you need some rest, since you’ve had an eventful day. I’ll put you in your Mum’s old bedroom; it’s still the same as it was when she left,” Molly hugged Lily and James and motioned for them to follow her up the stairs. Lily opened the door to what was to be her new bedroom and sighed. It was exactly like her mother to have a girly colored bedroom, filled with tom-boyish things. She pulled James into the room, and handed him the letters from the school Hogwarts that she had just remembered. James looked puzzled when she shoved the two letters into his hands, but when he realized he wasn’t going to get an explanation, he read them. Lily herself, pulled out the mysterious third letter, and read it silently, while James puzzled over the ones from Hogwarts. Dear Lily and James, As you may or not now be aware, I am the mysterious person who sent you letters to an equally mysterious school. I did so, because I thought it was high time for the children of Harry Potter, to attend Hogwarts. I know right now you are probably wondering why I would be writing to you of all teenagers, so I will tell you as much as I can in a letter. My name is Hermione Weasley (previously Granger), and I am not only your Headmistress, but also your Aunt. (Your Mother’s brother is my husband.) I alone, was the only person whom your Mother confided in, when she left England. You were not born then so, I have never met you, but I hope to in the very near future. Along with all of the other things, I was also your Father’s best friend. I knew your Father since he was eleven years old, and I was there when he died. Traditionally, witches and wizards attend Hogwarts when they turn eleven, but I made a special exception for the both of you. You will be attending Hogwarts this year, regardless of your Mother’s decision, so I will be giving both of you private lessons to help you catch up. (Though I doubt as the children of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley you will need much assistance.) I have been owling (sending post with owls as this letter was delivered) your Mother, Jenny (Ginny) ever since she left, and when I made my weekly telephone call, I gave her some news that changed her mind. I cannot tell you what I told her, because it’s up to her to tell you that. So, I send love to both of you, and your Mother, and I will see you sometime soon, and I promise to answer all of the questions, I know you are wanting to ask. Love always, Hermione Weasley P.S. Please don’t tell your Mother about these letters until I talk to her again. Lily opened and closed her mouth, rapidly, while she waited for herself to wake up from this wonderful dream, that couldn‘t possibly be true. James was already done with the other two letters, when Lily finished, so gently removed them from her hands as she stared into the air, too shocked to speak. He skimmed the letter from Hermione, and looked a Lily with a huge smile on his face, “Lily? Are you ok? Didn’t you get it? We have a family! A real family, with aunts and uncles, and grandparents, and kids like us!” Lily finally awoke from her trance like state, and smiled back into James’s face. “Oh, James! I’m so glad. I love Mother oh so much, but I always wished we had a real family, and sometimes I imagined we did. Strangely enough I always pictured red-headed people. So maybe deep down inside I always knew.” James nodded his head at Lily in agreement. “Do I hear talking in there?” came Molly’s voice from the hallway. “No, Grandmum, you don’t, we were just going to sleep,” Lily answered, and jumped onto the double bed, while James quickly got into the camp bed. As they had no other choice, they were asleep in a matter of seconds, and had dreams of red-headed children and their unknown Father, Harry Potter. A/N: Please review! I want to know what you think.
