Chapter 11: Surprises, Letters, Nerves and Discoveries!
[View Online]

Author’s Note - Hey guys. Here is the eleventh installment (I think) of my story. I hope you all like it. Not as long of a wait as last time I am happy to say. I hope you all enjoy it and feel free to leave a review.

Disclaimer - I do not own Harry Potter in any way. I own only the plot and my own characters.

[Dumbledore’s Office - 9th September]

Professor Dumbledore stared at the two adults in front of him with his familiar twinkle in his eye. He was delighted to be given the opportunity to reunite them with their long lost daughter. When he had received their letter of request to visit the school he had frowned at their foolishness. What on earth had possessed them to ask? Of course they would have been allowed. Now, just a few hours later, they were standing anxiously in front of him waiting for some sort of news. When they had described what should have happened to their daughter's appearance and that her fist name was Hermione, Dumbledore had been shocked to say the least. Never in a million years would he have suspected that Hermione Granger was in fact adopted and, what's more, from a pureblood family.

"Well Albus, do you know who our daughter is?" Gabrielle asked hopefully. Adrian seemed to have lost the ability to speak. His palms were sweating and if you looked closely enough, you could see him shaking a bit. Dumbledore smiled.

"Yes Gabrielle, I am pleased to say that I can inform you of your daughter's identity. Her name is Hermione Granger and she is a member of the Gryffindor house." He said pleasantly. Gabrielle shrieked excitedly and Adrian's jaw dropped.

"Gryffindor?" He asked. Dumbledore nodded politely.

"Who would have thought?" Adrian muttered. He would have expected her to be a Slytherin. Maybe a Ravenclaw, but a Gryffindor?

"Well, now that you have been informed of who your daughter is, would you like to meet her?" Dumbledore asked. Gabrielle nodded enthusiastically. She couldn't possibly wait a moment longer.

"Not yet." Adrian said. Gabrielle swirled on her heel to stare at him incredulously.

"Well shouldn't we inform Blaise first? It would only be right if we met her as a family. As a family, I mean the whole family." Gabrielle bit her lip slightly. She wanted her daughter now. She cast her eyes to the ground.

"I suppose so." She muttered.

"Well, now that you have decided, I will write a letter to your soon asking him to come up here. I will leave whilst you inform him and I will fetch Miss Granger and inform her. Would you like me to tell her who you are or would you prefer to do so yourself?" Dumbledore asked.

"Miss Zabini." Gabrielle said in a low voice.

"I beg your pardon?" Dumbledore said politely.

"Her name is Zabini." She said. Dumbledore frowned slightly.

"You must understand Mrs. Zabini, that Hermione will not take this easily. She will not automatically throw herself into your ways of living. I understand that you are family and I will call her Miss Zabini if she wishes me to do so. Remember that for the past sixteen years of her life she has grown up to believe that she is part of a muggle family and believed that her muggle parents were her biological ones. This won't be easy for her."

Gabrielle nodded. "I know, it's just difficult for us. I would prefer that you don't tell our daughter who we are. We would like to let her know ourselves."

"Very well."

[Boys Dormitory - 8.30 PM]

Blaise and Malfoy were sitting in their dormitory discussing the day’s events.

"Can you believe that Crabbe and Goyle entered for the talent show auditions?" Malfoy snorted. Blaise burst out laughing.

"Yeah, I know. I heard Lavender Brown say that they had entered for ballet!" Blaise replied. Malfoy joined him in laughing.

"You know what Brown is like though. She gossips a load of rubbish. I think I heard Crabbe grunt that they were doing a magician act. I'm not sure though." Malfoy replied. Blaise laughed again.

"I hope they get in. They should pass for a comedy act."

They both carried on laughing for a few minutes. Once they had caught their breath, Malfoy spoke.

"Granger and Weasley entered for it as well. I don't know what for though. I think it might have been for the opening act. Wonder what they'll be doing."

"Yeah. Did you see Granger this morning? I nearly jumped out of my skin when that lamp exploded."

"Yeah, what was that all about?" Malfoy asked in reply. Blaise shrugged his shoulders.

" I dunno man. She's got some temper."

"Whatever. Why are we speaking about her again?" Malfoy asked.

"You brought her up."

A tapping on the window interrupted them. They turned around to see an owl they didn't recognize hovering outside their window clutching a letter. Blaise rose an eyebrow and turned to face Malfoy who shrugged his shoulders. Malfoy stood up and opened the window. The owl flew straight over to Blaise, dropped the letter and zoomed back out of the window again. He picked up the letter and began to fumble with the seal. He opened it and began to read.

Dear Mr. Zabini
Your parents have come to see you. They are waiting in my office at the moment. I would appreciate it if you would make your way up there immediately. They say it is urgent.
Professor Dumbledore
PS. I like 'Muggle Candy'

Blaise dropped the letter and jumped to his feet. Malfoy stared at him curiously.

"I gotta go man. Read the letter. I'll be back soon."

With that, Blaise made his way out of the dormitory leaving a curious Malfoy to read the letter.

[Girls Dormitory - 8.35 PM]

Hermione and Ginny were both lying down reading magazines. They were both exhausted from auditions and couldn't be bothered doing anything else. When a knock could be heard at their door they looked at each other in surprise. Ginny stood up and made her way towards the door. She grabbed the handle and pulled it towards her to reveal a smiling Albus Dumbledore in the doorway. Ginny stood in shocked and Hermione nearly choked.

"Uh, hello Professor." Hermione said smiling. Dumbledore nodded.

"Good evening Miss Granger. I was wondering if you would join me. I have some rather important news to tell you." He said. Hermione raised her eyebrows and then turned to look at Ginny who beckoned her to leave.

"B..But I'm in my pajamas!" She protested down looking at the blue T-Shirt and trousers angel pajama set she was wearing. Dumbledore chuckled. He waved his wand and Hermione's pajamas had transformed into a plain blue T-Shirt with an angel on the front and a pair of blue jeans with angel written across the back. Hermione stared down at herself and then up at Ginny who seemed rather amused.

Shaking slightly, Hermione got to her feet and followed Dumbledore out of her dorm and then out of the common room. Once they were in the corridor, Hermione looked at Dumbledore curiously.

"I don't mean to be rude Professor, but would you mind telling me what this is all about?"

"You are not being rude at all. If anyone is it is me for dragging you from your dormitory when you are wearing clothes strikingly similar to the pajamas you were wearing moments ago." He said smiling. "I have come to fetch you because, as I am sure you are aware, you are adopted." Hermione looked up at him surprised.

"How do you know Professor?" She asked.

"You sent a letter to your parents earlier today, am I right?" Dumbledore asked. Hermione nodded. "Well, if I am right, it did not go to your adoptive muggle parents because you are now sixteen and the glamour charm put on you at birth has now worn off although you do look similar to what you did before. The letter instead went to your biological parents who are now in my office waiting to meet you. That is of course if you wish to meet them." He finished. Hermione was gob smacked. She had been so curious to who her parents were and now they were sitting in her headmaster's office waiting to meet her.

"O..Of course I want to meet them. Who are they though?"

"Well you shall come to my office then. I am afraid I cannot tell you who they are. They would rather tell you themselves. I must warn you, be prepared for surprise."

Hermione gulped. What the hell did that mean?

[Outside the Office]

Blaise stood panting outside of Professor Dumbledore's office. He had run all the way from his common room. He lifted his fist and knocked on the door sharply. A familiar female voice called through.

"Come in."

Blaise pushed the door open to see his parents on the other side smiling nervously. Dumbledore was nowhere in sight. There were three empty chairs in front of Dumbledore's desk. His parents had probably been sitting there before he had knocked. Blaise walked in and closed the door behind him. Gabrielle and Adrian sat back down in their chairs and beckoned for their son to join them. Confused, he did so.

"Would you mind telling me what is going on?" Blaise asked irritated. Gabrielle nodded.

"We received a letter today. A letter from your sister." She gushed excitedly. Blaise choked on air. "Of course, she didn't know it had come to us. She had addressed it 'Mum and Dad' thinking it would go to her adoptive parents but because her glamour charm has worn of it was sent to us. Dumbledore is bringing her here now."

Blaise didn't know what to say. He felt a mixture of emotions. Shock, relief, excitement, curiousness and nervous. Instead of speaking, he stayed completely still and waited for his sister to arrive.

[Outside the Gargoyles]

Hermione was standing outside the gargoyles that led to the stairway leading to Dumbledore's office. She hadn't spoken at all since Dumbledore had informed her why she was being taken to his office. She had kept silent and tagged along behind him. Her insides were squirming with nerves. She was seconds away from meeting her family.

"Muggle Candy." Dumbledore said. The gargoyles jumped apart and revealed a staircase. Hermione followed Dumbledore as he began to ascend.

"Will they like me?" She asked quietly?

"Pardon?" Dumbledore asked politely.

"Will they like me?" She repeated a little louder. Dumbledore smiled.

"Of course they will. You are their daughter. I will be with you when you meet them and I will be there if you, your parents, or your brother has any questions." He replied happily.

"M..My br...brother?" Hermione spluttered. Dumbledore widened his eyes.

"Of course. Didn't I tell you? You have a brother."

"No you must have missed that tiny part out." Hermione half growled. It was nerve wracking enough meeting her parents, but she had a brother as well? They reached the door separating them from Hermione's family. Dumbledore reached forward and turned the handle. Hermione held her breath as he turned it and opened the door.

Author’s Note - I know, another evil cliffie. I love them so much. I don’t think you guys do. I can just feel that I will receive a lot of frustrated reviews. Sorry lol.

If anyone would like to be e-mailed when I submit a chapter, either e-mail me or leave a review letting me know. Don’t feel pressured though. You don’t have to if you don’t want to.
