HPFF internet safety.
HPFF will soon be running an internet safety awareness week, featuring books on the subject by several authors. Frederick Lane, whose book is described below has agreed to help us with this and has taken part in a podcast to be broadcast during the themed week. An excerpt of the podcast is available here. Please take a listen and even better, if you want to keep safe and know if what you are doing is in fact dangerous or illegal, get the book!
We teach knife and appliance safety in home economics; we teach gun safety as a prerequisite for a hunting license; auto safety in driver’s education; and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies in sex ed. The Internet’s potential for misuse, whether through a computer or a mobile phone is at least as profound as a chef’s knife, a Camaro, or a .22, but our efforts to educate children about Internet safety are far more sporadic and less thorough.
From the tragic death of Rutgers freshman Tyler Clementi after being a victim of cyberbullying, to illegal downloading on Lime Wire, sexual deviants in chat rooms, easy access to plagiarized term papers, and the dissemination of compromising photos on Facebook, the Internet has become the new Wild West—and a dangerous playground for our children. Drawing on contemporary news reports and compelling legal cases, Lane drives home the seriousness of the civil and criminal penalties children face, while providing an essential framework for parents, teachers, and school administrators to educate children about the importance of responsible technology use.

Admin on 2011.07.22 - 04:49PM Queue Now Open
The queue is open once again for all authors. Please make sure to back up your stories if you have not already done so. Instructions on how to perform a backup can be found on the forums.
Arithmancy_wiz on 2011.07.19 - 02:42PM Site Status
As you have probably noticed, HPFF is having some serious issues at both the forum and archive. We are working on the problem and have closed the queue so that we can work on the issues. Since neither the forum or archive are currently considered stable, please do NOT make a concerted effort to start cleaning/reposting information. We may have to do a site roll back and then you will have wasted a lot of time :)
As always, remember to backup your stories and reviews and any forum topics that you want to hang on to.
For up to date information please follow the @HPFF twitter account in case the site itself is not accessible.
